Subject: Anyone Know The Smallworld Guys?

  Posted by: Jag - [14828255] Thu, Jan 10, 2008, 10:22

I am interested in talking to one of the guys that created Smallworld, which was bought out by TSN. I know some used to visit this forum and was wondering if anyone knew them.

Erik Barmack

Jag, this guy, this author, was one of the persons involved in Smallworld. He was not a founder, but one of the guys that helped manage the group. I met him once at Smallworld's offices like 5 years ago. He has since changed careers, but if you do some detective work, maybe you can track him down and find what you need.

if i remember, he was also the one guy that really responded on these boards when there were concerns.

i miss the smallworld days. it's hard to believe it was only 5 or 6 years ago. but TSN kinda took the game and did enough tweaking to concern me, and then, thanks to Mike D, discovered yahoo roto style stuff, and i never looked back...

Yes, Erik was/is cool.

I'm still actively playing TSN fantasy sports. It's still fun and it works well.

Don Mathis is probably the guy you are thinking of. Also Bernie would pop in here and there.

Erik Barmack is as far back as I go. He was the guy I met when I first started this site back in 1997. He left the company shortly thereafter to go to grad school, but then came back for a stint at TSN, before leaving again for ESPN (and some book authoring). The last I heard, he was working for them overseas - in Italy, perhaps.

The most recent email I have for him is at ESPN. If he's still there, it probably works. But I have no idea. I can give it you you if you send me an email. Perhaps blue hen knows if he is still with ESPN.

Hey i know this is off topic but reading this made me think back to smallworld(and sandbox if anyone played that) and how it got me into fantasy sports. so anyways i was surprise that there is no wikipedia page for smallworld.

i would be interested to here anything else interesting about founders of smallworld.

I see Erik regularly. I don't think it's my place to say more than that. Please shoot me an email and I'll make sure Erik gets your message.

And incidentally, in my (perhaps biased) opinion, The Virgin is a very enjoyable book.
