Subject: The Story of Lennon Murphy - getting sued by Yoko

  Posted by: Tree - [3533298] Wed, Feb 13, 2008, 17:03

Lennon Murphy is a pop singer. Lennon is her birth name, and the name she has used for her band for nearly a decade. (you can see where this is going...)

she actually owns a trademark on the name Lennon, but Yoko Ono, has (apparently two days before the statute of limitations expires), filed suit against her so she can't use the name, and for cancellation of the trademark.

in her own words: Lennon is my first name by birth and I am regualarly asked if I was named after the Beatle, having always replied no. My mother named me after "John Lennon that wrote songs, painted, and baked bread with his son". She named me for the man, not the pop star.

more info on Lennon's webpage...

and her myspace blog as well...

seems like a gross injustice to me. i mean, it's the girl's name!

LENNON MURPHY

Dear Friends

A musician named Lennon Murphy is claiming that Yoko Ono
has sued her and that Yoko is seeking to stop Lennon Murphy
from performing under her name, Lennon Murphy. Both of these
claims are untrue.

Several years ago, Lennon Murphy sought Yoko's permission to
do her performances under her name, Lennon Murphy. Yoko, of
course, did not object to her request. Subsequently, without
Yoko's knowledge, Lennon Murphy filed an application in the
United States trademark Office requesting the exclusive right to
utilize the name "Lennon" for musical performances. Yoko's
attorneys asked Lennon Murphy's attorneys and manager to
withdraw her registration of exclusivity to the name LENNON for
the trademark. Yoko also offered to cover all costs Lennon
Murphy had incurred in filing for the trademark. But Lennon
Murphy went ahead to register.

Yoko did not sue Lennon Murphy, but sought to stop her from
getting the exclusive right to the name Lennon for performance
purposes. For that, Yoko's attorneys, simply notified the
Trademark office that Yoko did not believe it was fair that Ms.
Murphy be granted the exclusive right to the "Lennon"
trademark in relation to musical and entertainment services. As
you can see, this is a very important issue for Yoko and the
Lennon family.

Yoko says: "I am really hurt if people thought that I told a young
artist to not use her own name in her performances and had
sought to sue her. I did no such thing. I hope this allegation will
be cleared."

Thank you for your kind attention,
Yoko

Dunno. How much time does Yoko have on her hands?

Maybe someone hired by Yoko to work at balancing the internet story. We are 5th on a google search for the first line. Or a good programmer that figured how to trackback and see who is linking the Murphy story.

If Yoko herself has that much time on her hands, maybe she want to play some roto.

Lennon Murphy, BTW:

i'm partial to this pic of ms. murphy:

and Yoko's robo lawyer - thanks for stopping in. i would have felt better if you didn't do one of those chain letter things, and maybe chimed in on some of the other threads instead of just this one, because it might be interesting to get a fresh perspective...

i mean, what do you think of Obama. i mean, he usurps Yoko alphabetically, by last name.
