Nice find, Nerve.

The league must gang up on Biliruben, if need be, to prevent a three peat. First order of business, don't let a decent prospect go undrafted since he will have the first waiver priority.

Baldwin - the coulter book is well out of the top 100 on Amazon, as PV correctly pointed out. #130, in fact, as this is typed.

Also, to compare the ranking of Franken's last book - which came out 3 1/2 years ago - to Coulter's, which came out last month, is, well, stupid.

I think it's a great trade, depending on how much it upgrades your infield and outfield keepers. A stinkin' 2nd rounder? I waste my 2nd rounder on Adrian Beltre pretty much every year.

I don't like Young but I think Granderson is worth a second round pick by himself.

That's a ninth round pick in a 14 team league, he's going much sooner then that and we know you aren't dropping anyone to speak of.

The question isn't whether Young is the same Young of a few years back. The question is where does he stack up against the SS that will be available to me.

Frankly Young has some not inconsiderable potential to return to form for a year or two and Granderson unquestionably has upside. I'll almost certainly be keeping Weiters next year so it's hard to see how my keepers haven't gotten healthier finally.

Baldwin - I didn't say I didn't like your trade, it was fair in my opinion, I just have never liked Granderson.

I thought of you when I read the Michael Young blurb in Baseball Prospectus this year. His "Comparables" include Dave Concepcion, a great shortstop, and Jeff Cirillo, an unspeakably bad third baseman. Where is Young starting this year? Hmm...

Meche 2 30 4.13 1.32

Burnett 2 25 5.40 1.33

When he gets his yearly season ending injury, I am guessing.

the deal between c1nrb and me also includes the following draft pick swaps:

Conditional Prospect draft pick swap - Tree's 1st round prospect pick for C1NRB's 2nd round prospect pick (if he keeps three prospects), or his 3rd round prospect pick (if he keeps less than three)

Conditional Regular draft pick - Tree's 2nd round pick for C1NRB's 4th round pick, if Tree finishes in the top 3.

No idea why I have trouble trading with most folks in this league, but not you. I seem to offer them similar deals to what we end up trading, but I usually get rejections without counters and no explanation. Or worse, absurd, borderline-insulting counters.

Maybe we just value players similarly. Dunno.

i was looking back at some trades.

it's interesting that in the 2006 season, Bob Wickman was involved in three trades, all involving second round picks to the team that swapped him, and he ultimately ended up being traded back to the team that originally traded him away.

back to A-Gon -

one of the deals was:
MBJ trades Corey Hart, Adrian Gonzalez and the prospect rights to Joey Votto

to Mith for Brandon Webb.

Saito was a stud. Schilling was mediocre.

OMG

Tree manages to move a marginal batter currently hitting .151 for the month but I can't get a nibble for Alphonso Soriano hitting 5 HR/.283 for the month. Not even for a measley draft upgrade I'm askin.

59Tree

no, i didn't move any hitters.

i moved a first round draft pick.

the players i traded are completely meaningless - it's just that Yahoo won't let you draft players for draft picks.

as for not being able to trade Soriano - i think you've got him significantly overvalued if you want a first rounder for him.

he's 33 years old and in the midst of his worst season as a major leaguer - by far - and historically slumps at season's end.

there's also several players ON THE WAIVER WIRE who have better numbers than Soriano.

To me, it's a simple case of a player who was worth the asking price a couple season's ago, but now, not so much.

a rebuilding team won't take a player of that age for a first rounder, and just scanning the top 4 contending teams - and presuming 20 available slots over those teams (3 OF/2 UT per team) - i see *maybe* one slot of those 20 where Soriano might be an upgrade, but certainly not worth giving up a first rounder for.

i think you have him over-valued.

He's 33 years old, and hitting .244 with 19 homers, 50 ribbies, and 8 stolen bases.

he might very well be better than someone's 7th keeper. But he's not better than someone's 1st round pick next year.

Admittedly, I didn't toss in a "Bag" of smokes, so I probably owed you a 3rd.

Hopefully Maybin works out as a reasonable substitute. He's mashing in the minors, though the cheapskates want another year of eligibility before arbitration, so he may not get another chance to prove he can hit in the bigs.
