Subject: Is your local post office closing?

The USPS is set to lose nearly $7 billion this year (mostly, IMO, because of rules which prevent them from making a profit and therefore doesn't cushion then during economic downtimes).

A list of post offices which they are looking to cut (including local ones open to the public and servicing particular zip codes) is here (pdf).

It could well be obsolete. This one is maybe 6 short blocks east of my building and there's another much larger post office about a mile away in the opposite direction.

they are not allowed to reinvest and/or save revenues? That really is recipe for disaster.

Yeah, that's why postage goes up in strange increments. It would be far better to do it in 5 cent increments for a first class stamp and then raise the rate far less often.
