3 against. good enough for me....

i'll switch it up today.

also, there are numerous options for trade deadlines. i gotta see how they match up for our weekly schedules, but considering the regular season schedule is through week 13 (i think), about what week is good for a trade deadline?

additionally, i need a little time to put the keepers in the draft thread, etc etc.

Actually when I went back and looked at the browser I had Wells in the cntrl'f box and it was red as a negative. Sometimes it doesn't work. So it had both failed as a cntrl'f and failed to get included as I manually marked off the keeper list against my cheat sheet. It happens, not twice usually.

Not a productive day for the poli draft. I hope people will be a bit more responsible about checking in or notifying another manager when they are up. E-mail notice is one of several benefits of kafenatid that I am missing.

i have always been baffled by the fact that people are in the middle of a draft, yet don't pay attention to it....

the fact that we don't use kafenatid is absurd.

Am I the only one who forgets if this is snake or not? I could look back to last year but I'm too lazy. And tired at this hour, but mainly lazy. I seem to recall it's not a snake because we didn't want to even out the distribution of talent but rather give a real advantage to the early draft position. Either way, I'm prolly not the only one who forgets and we need to specify this.

Non-snake.

This was because it's a keeper league, and the winners get a handicap by going last every round.

Boikin's up. I have Clyde's pick (and have had it for 4 hours or so), but Clyde will probably be up before me.

In the future, better to let the West-coasters get their picks out of the way in the PM though, if you want to get an early start.

I think part of the problem here is that when you give people 4 hours, they often take 4 hours, especially with an early draft when they aren't yet prepared.

No clock might have been quicker.

I strongly considered Rice but...

1) felt he was too much a creation of Favre

2) I like Harvin too much to believe Rice has a lock on #1 receiver.

3) don't like Rice after the Favre fat lady sings which could be any day now...tho granted that is a solid team even without him.

That sure was a well hidden problem yesterday. I had no clue he'd miss more than a game or two.

Tomorrow I will be leaving home around 2 pm and driving to Baltimore, where I will be spending the night. I will have my cell phone with me there, so if someone could text me when it is my pick and who has been taken I would appreciate it. my number is in the thread above.

that's the problem.

EVERYONE IN THIS DRAFT KNOWS WE'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF A DRAFT.

so it is that tough to check in on a fairly steady basis???

this draft is always among the longest and most challenging draft because no one seems to care.

we could seriously bang this thing out in 2, 3 days tops, if people would actually pay attention.

Totally, kidding btw, since I think we have plenty of time to finish this. As an FYI, I have 5hrs of meetings tomorrow, but I'll try to construct a queue close to my pick and hand it off to a few of you. Have a great night!

I really really did not want to be dipping into the bottom half of the quarterback barrel this year. I paid a pretty penny for it too. Got shut out of virtually all my sleepers just to avoid it.

maybe i missed something here.

you drafted Matt Schaub, a potential top 5 and certain top 8 QB with your first pick of the draft...

then you drafted an interesting bunch of mid- and lower-tier RBs and WRs...

*then* you drafted Matt Cassell - 20th in ADP as your back up.

AND THEN you traded your 9th and 10th round pick so you could get the 18th ADP QB as your THIRD QB??!?!

um....you traded up to draft the 18th and 20th ranked QBs in terms of ADP?

why not take Henne with that first pick instead of Cassell, and hold onto your draft picks?? that third QB - a fairly lower tier one that you said you didn't want to begin with - would likely have been available on the waiver wire....

i don't get that trade at all...

Henne is not gonna be that bad with a solid O-line, Brandon Marshall added to an already solid receiving corp and a solid running game to take pressure off the passing and a system that is not unduly run heavy.

If eleven other managers felt like you about him, I'd be amazed. I cannot believe he was gonna be available on the WW.

Schaub has a long history of getting injured and not finishing seasons but he's a top five QB if he stays healthy.

Cassel, I like his talent, I like his receivers, I'm really excited about the way they will use Dexter McCluster...three good running backs that are all good receivers, we'll see if the o-line is improved. I expect a bounceback from Cassel. But with Cassel's O-line I still didn't have a guarantee of avoiding a cellar-dwelling QB if Schaub got injured.

I really expected McNabb to drop for me and I would have been happy with two QB's.

Then again I drafted Donald Brown when McNabb got stolen out from in front of me the round I expected to take him.

See me for a trade for Donald Brown before the next draft when Addai takes a Free Agency walk. It's gonna suck to own Vincent Jackson the first half, but he was a long term keeper target of mine and I got him cheaply.

I expect Leon Washington to dominate the competition in Seattle for #1 back and he's had eye-popping skills whenever he was healthy. I you-tube these guys and I've wanted Washington for several years because of what I saw there.

And lastly I was at the point where I was very comfortable with my team other than needing a bye-week TE so I could afford to sit out a few rounds at this point.

i guess what i'm asking is - you already had two QBs. why did you trade away your next two rounds of draft picks for a THIRD qb?

you can only play one at a time...

(as an aside, i'll be amazed if Jackson plays at all this season. that's an entire roster spot wasted all season if you're viewing him as a keeper...)

Did you know that Boldin is the NFL's all-time career leader in yards per reception, and Vincent Jackson is the NFL's leader in yards per target over the last five years and that Chris Johnson is Chris Johnson?

And I'm still gonna struggle this year maybe because I missed so many sleepers and that second RB well could come up dry, but the keeper list is coming along.

Between Schaub's injury record and Cassel's o-line I still didn't have a guarantee of a top tenish QB when the playoffs roll around.

The way I really saw it going down in my head when I picked Gonzalez, was that Portis would last till the next round or maybe Hardesty. While Portis isn't his old self, McNabb will surely have a ball working with him as a checkdown.

I felt it was a touch too early to reach for Portis in mid-round four.

BTW I predict that Addai walks and is allowed to walk away in free agency next year and that IND is going to want to take a good look at what they have in Donald Brown before they do that. Not saying he replaces him this year, but Brown gets significantly more carries.

while i agree Henne has top 12 potential, i'd be amazed if Cassell finishes in the top 20. that's what has me shaking my head. the guy isn't even be drafted in 40 percent of drafts.

Did you know that Boldin is the NFL's all-time career leader in yards per reception

not sure where you got that tidbit. he's not even close. heck, he's not even in the top 50 of ACTIVE players. some of the active luminaries ahead of him include Andre Davis, Lee Evans, Bernard Berrian, Justin Gage, Devin Hester, Brian Finneran, Ted Ginn, and Steve Breaston.

with a 12.8 YPC, he almost certainly doesn't even rank in the top 300 of all-time, much less be #1 (which, incidently, has a top 5 filled withe the legendary Warren Wells, Ken Kavanaugh, Homer Jones, Mal Kutner, and Buddy Dial).

Vincent Jackson is the NFL's leader in yards per target over the last five years

maybe so. he's never had 70 catches in a season. he'll be super lucky to have 50 this season. doesn't make for promising fantasy prospects.

I've seen Henne and Cassel flip-flopped in reverse order of ranking in half a dozen other draft magazines.

Rotowire has Cassel at 15 and Henne at 21.

WCOFF [my personal favorite] has Cassel at 18, Henne at 20.

But you expect Cassel on the WW.

you're looking at pre-season rankings. things that were done months and months ago.

while they're important in helping with a draft, they shouldn't be an end-all, be-all. at this point, ADP is important too.

Generally speaking, Henne is being picked about 55 spots earlier than Cassel. He's being taken in about 89% of all drafts, while Cassel is only being taken in 64% or so.

That means Cassel will be on the waiver wire more often.

Do i think Cassel would have been drafted in this league? yea, probably. do i think he would have been dropped after the starting QB's bye week happened? yea, quite possibly.

would i have traded what you did to move up to get a THIRD QB? never.

That about wraps it up for me.

I am unwilling to go through another poli draft. I am confident that neither of the poli leagues will ever impose a reasonable time requirement for making picks. I kept thinking I would develop tolerance for those managers who year after year disapear for hours at a time. I was wrong.

For that reason, this is my final season in poli football and poli baseball. I still have many in the poli leagues whom I consider friends. I don't want to lose those relationships over my feelings for a select few whose mothers were unable to permanently convey "manners" or respect of others.

By giving notice now, you have a year to find a replacement for me in both poli leagues or to make the next pick, which ever seems more relevant.

Taxman, I'm sorry that I am one of the contributors to your frustration regarding timeliness. I have a job that at times takes me away from a computer for hours at a time (being on the west coast doesn't help either). I take solace knowing that we have plenty of time to finish the draft and 2-3hr breaks in the draft can actually give everyone a breather to catch up on the goings on.

Since I've only been in this league for 1 year, perhaps I have missed previous discussions. We started on Monday and have cleared ~2 rounds per day. What exactly is your vision? Did you desire a live draft that wraps up over the course of 3-4hrs?

I feel bad for Wiggs since his schedule and our draft start date meant he couldn't be around. I appreciate his willing to go with the flow.

If your feelings are so strong, do you think it better to give your team to a new manager in the middle of the draft so they have some control over this year? Or do you still want to play it out?... your last statement seemed a bit cryptic.

i think his last statement was to imply that this draft takes so long, we may not finish until next season.

i hate to see you go Tax. in both leagues. you're a valuable player and an asset, but i totally feel your frustration. i've been on that edge myself this football season - it just takes too long for this draft, and the fun gets sucked out of it.

the unwillingness for this league to switch to kafenatid-only, is baffling. hell, at this point, Yahoo even allows for you to designate keepers before a live draft, so going towards that would be something to consider.

but our current system has to change, and if an owner leaving because of it isn't an indicator, i don't know what is.

Stupidly, I'll respond to Astatde and MBJ in public....but nevermore sayeth the raven.

response to Astade If you feel the need to replace me now...do it. Clearly I stated : this is my final season in poli football and poli baseball. I'm not sure how you can interpret that to think I am quitting before the end of the 2010 season. But then I can't explain your response either. And for those challenged to recognize sarcasm, I will clearly label statements such as: By giving notice now, you have a year to find a replacement for me in both poli leagues or to make the next pick, which ever seems more relevant with SARCASM INTENDED

response to mbj In your two examples (neither of which was a 5 hour disappearing act), guilty as charged. The following is not an excuse...it is an explanation. The time taken to make my first pick opened my mind to the possibility of leaving good friends and exiting the poli leagues. I detest being a person who wastes other's time. And I did, because I failed to plan for other's ability to waste my time.

The three hour delay: First pick (6th overall), armed with a 3 man queue in my pocket (stupid on my part, as the poli league historically jumps on rookies with upside and the 3 rookie RBs were the queue). From 6 PM to midnight Sunday and from 8 till noon Monday, I checked draft thread every 15-30 minutes. From noon to 4, I was trapped in unplanned closed door conference. When it ended, I discovered bili had taken the last of my queue. I decided not to waste the 1st round pick w/o looking at notes/cheat sheets which were at home. In light of circumstances, the 3 hours for me to pick was not terrible. Again had I been able to pick before noon (1 EST), I would not be writing this thread.

The two hour delay last night was actually intentional. I had already hit the wall with the 10 hour delay earlier Friday. Billi made his pick 5 minutes before I got home. Wife had nice dinner, wine, candles and sweet talk..or I could put her off for another 5 minutes to pick or leave a post. My black heart said phuk it and I enjoyed dinner with my wife and contemplated my future in poli games. Maybe if I had taken three hours I wouldn't have tossed in the towel, but I took two..for me..and the rest is history.

Again..not an excuse..just the facts. You certainly are entitlted to your opinions, as am I.

I am also through with public discussion and won't be back on this thread. My e-mail is above if you are compelled to tell me something.

And tree, thanks for your comments. I wish you and the league the best and I plan (will try) to go out a winner.

I was genuinely trying to be nice in 217, but upon further review, the situation is bizarre and it's better to let it go than to get all upset.

Regarding draft frustration in this thread (this is for everyone else in the league since Taxman won't be back).... I hope that everyone else remembers this is just a game. After re-reading Taxman's posts/dramatic statements, hopefully everyone else is in agreement that we should ratchet down things and not take this league so seriously so we can prevent further human suffering (see post 227) :)

A last round draft choice puts the integrity of the entire league in question? Jeesh. I thought this was a friendly league. Now, we're having to delete posts form the football thread. I try to be a nice guy, and look what happens. I'm accused of ruining the integrity of the league.

This link shows that the second trade is much fairer and would do more to enhance the integrity of the league. These late round picks are all over the map anyways.

fair is not the issue. the issue is that you can't change an agreed upon trade after the fact.

a trade was offered, made, and confirmed. it's a bad precedent to set to allow changes.

Boldwin did indicate he got some really great value getting that 3rd QB. Based on his evaluations you may not have gotten enough in that trade B7. I hope Boldwin is wrong and that 3rd QB doesn't help him win the league but he seemed pretty convinced so I wouldn't feel too bad for him.

Btw, I'd agree with Tree. The trade was made official. Doesn't actually seem fair to adjust it later.

as it currently stands, i will miss out on the playoffs due to a 3.84 point loss tonight, combined with B7 pulling out a 3.41 win.

that is going to really annoy me, especially since i had been on such a hot streak, winning 6 of the last 7 prior to this week.

it was literally the perfect storm of events to keep me from making the playoffs, as i was in THIRD place heading into this last week.

But Baldwin, Boikin, MBJ, and B7 all appear to have won, and that combination with me losing, will have me on the outside looking in.

un-freaking-believable.

Hard to believe, but I feel Tree's pain. That cut-off line for the playoffs in fantasy football is just brutal and unfair. I feel a little sheepish limping into the playoffs with my QB, Schaub, barely functional and with my best player Chris Johnson, hamstrung without a QB or passing game to share the defensive pressure. And that low cumulative points for.

But we've already tried the fair way, straight cumulative fantasy points, and we were all snoozing by the end of the year so maybe that brutal playoff cutoff is just one more brutal crazy ball bounce we really like about football.
