Subject: Could you pass the immigration test

  Posted by: Khahan - [373143013] Tue, Nov 16, 2010, 13:35

Self-scored a 96. There were a few I didn't get exactly like they worded, but close enough for me.

take the test for your self.

I got the following wrong:
-name the 13 original colonies (had 12/13 right)

-can I name the 2 senators from my state (got 1)

-for how long do we elect representatives (gave the answer for the other house)

-who declares war (brainfarted)

A few others I answered correctly, just not exactly how they worded it (example where does our freedom of speech come from? I answered more specifically than they were looking for). Little stuff like that I scored myself correctly on.

Really? You got the number of Amendments to the Constitution correct? And the number of representatives in the House, but you can't remember the names of your two Senators?

I don't believe that you got the INS form question right. That question is seriously dated. There is no INS anymore.

I really liked the "Who is the head of your local government?" question. )"Insert local answer here". Not too vague, I'm glad you got that one right, Khahan :)

I bet Baldwin's head will espode when he sees the UN question!

Having taken Latin instead of American govt, I am constantly shamed by two friends born in other countries who had to take the test. They know so much more than me it's sad.

I refuse to click thru.

I got the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court wrong. I said John Roberts, but apparently William Rehnquist was reappointed without me noticing.

It's like playing the original Trivial Pursuit where you have to guess what the correct answer was back in 1984. I have the first Sports expansion set of questions put out around 1986 and those questions are really hard, especially ones about the all time list of home runs.

Y'know what would be fun? Everyone get on 'go-to-meeting' and play trivial pursuit once.

Like I said, self scoring. I said rehnquist it matched. :) So a 95.

Yes, I got the number of amendments.

While I didn't get the INS form number I did guess it was a Petition for Naturalization (educated guess). That was close enough for me.

The senators I got 1 right and named a local rep who ran in the recent election.

I got the UN question right, even though my answer didn't match - I said it was to be a group of politicians who meddle in everybody's business and uses US resources to solve problems.

True. My point wasn't that the UN is bad (I think, for example UNICEF does God's work) but that the Right likes to bash the UN while praising Bush for doing, essentially, the same thing.

Very valid point. As we can see in the Direction of the Dem thread, it's ok when my guy does, but extremely awful when your guy does it.

I think the UN oversteps its bounds on some issues, but overall is a good thing for the planet's governments.

I think the problem with the UN is that the bad stuff they do is what hits the media. The big international issues are what the general public hears about. And of course, 'internation issues' by nature are often one side flexing its might.

Yes, I know the UN does a lot of good things and helps out in many ways. I just can't honestly say what they are because you don't really hear about them. Its more of an image thing than reality which is a shame for the UN.

Very good point. I think that applies to a lot of things, as well. There are organizations (and individuals) who do a ton of good under the radar that you never hear about. Then, one bad incident, and the media is all over them and paint them as exceedingly evil through and through. BP, for example.
