invites have been sent to every one who played last season.
since it will inevitably come up that Baldwin didn't get the invite, it went to your email address that includes your name, plus 5 numerals after it, at yahoo dot com, if that helps.

i'd also like to consider us going to a Live Online Draft.
we can assign keepers that way, trade draft picks, and so on. more info here...

in case we decide to do a live draft, i've set it up for 9:30 Central time on Sept 1. that gives west coast folks time to get home from work, and hopefully isn't too late for east coast folks.
this is all dependent on the will of the league, however. we do have 3 votes in favor of a live draft so far.
as commish, i prefer a live draft, because it is considerably less labor intensive for me, as i don't have to enter hundreds of plays onto rosters.

I won't be able to do a live draft. Certainly not then, at any rate. I'll be out in the deep woods of Idaho, fishing. I can do a couple of queues for a round or two as long as they aren't the first few. Otherwise, you'll need to find a replacement manager.

So, one game on the 8th, most games on the 11th to start the season.
I say declare Monday or Tuesday, and get at it. Slow draft starting Wednesday.
I have no interest in a live draft unless there is beer involved, and I'm sitting around a table.
I won the only live yahoo draft I participated in, but I didn't even care. I need a decent draft format to even get interested.
I'm not married to this league however, so feel free to replace me.

I'm going to be in Idaho from the 28th through Labor day. We'll do an overnite in there somewhere, but not sure when. Up to my dad.
In any case, I'm not going to be able to tell my family I'm going to disappear for several hours in the middle of my vacation to do a draft (unless the middle of the night, I suppose), but I will have internet access enough to keep queues updated for a slow draft.

bili - could you and clyde get signed up on the yahoo site?
1. Keepers are due monday, August 22, at 12 non central time.
2. Draft begins that night at 7 pm central, presuming all keepers are in. i know some of this is dependent on when Punk arrives.
i'm going to set up a separate thread for it. it will include draft order and all that.
we've got 5 days to get this done. let's do it before bili has to leave. i'm going to post the draft order and keepers (when they're in) in another thread.

on a side note, i wonder if the league would be interested in expanding to FIVE offensive keepers after this upcoming season?
because there are so many keeper-worthy players, but only 4 offensive slots per team, the trade market has essentially dried up. part of the fun of fantasy sports is trading, so perhaps adding a 5th offensive keeper will spur things on.

i hear ya. and i am loathe to skip someone for the first pick of the draft.
that being said, when i get home tonight (which probably won't be until 11 pm eastern), i'm picking the WR with the highest ADP for Tax if he hasn't picked yet. he kept two RBs, a QB, and a TE, so i feel like WR is the natural pick here for him.

I think that's fair. It was firmly established that we needed to get this draft done in 5 days. Even though there's no official clock, it's reasonable to think that 24 hours is sufficient.
In live drafts, if you arrive late or not at all, your team is auto-picked. I plan on making my pick approximately 11:01 EST, unless Tree gets kidnapped by roller derby girls.

Still, we should have an alternative plan in the works, rather than get to pick #2 and risk losing another day.

Wiggs texted me and said he has no Internet and to pick the best RB available. I told him I did that in the first round, but if he doesn't text me in the next 10 minutes i'm doing just that.
As for tax, he has one hour on the clock when he is up, i will make a logical pick, and we will immediately look for a replacement owner. I hate to do that to a.friend, but it is what it is.

I just spoke with my golfing buddy, Jorge, about possibly replacing Tax if necessary. He's an avid football and baseball fantasy player, and would be a great addition to the league.
He's a staunch conservative as well, so that might help balance to the right, and maybe even get him involved in posting on the forum.
Regardless, he's willing to join under these somewhat awkward conditions; indeed, he was rather excited when I read him the keepers involved. If Tax doesn't communicate before his next pick, I suggest we move on it.

Tax - i texted you twice yesterday. No Response. Had to make an executive decision. I picked a WR based on how i would have gone if it were my pick and i had your roster.
Then I used the ADP from two different sites. Colston barely edged out Steve Johnson, who went just two picks later.

I appreciate the thought and the method used to pick Colston, as well as comments from others aabout being next in their queue, however he is an injury risk and just doesn't fit my needs as a WR#1

I have no problem with TM throwing back in the pool and picking twice his next pick.
FWIW I owned Colston every year except last and he wasn't chopped liver. Just a bit feast or famine. Slightly fragile. Slightly swamped in that offense with other options. Slightly at risk Meacham might actually blossom. But he was outstanding every other week.

Really hated picking Addai. Not a sexy pick. Too injured lately. But any year he isn't injured he's gonna be the sole RB and catch 50 balls for 400-500 yds. I've watched his handcuffs and they can't do squat. Peyton loves him in protection and receiving. His injuries don't seem chronic. Tell me why he's the wrong pick.

man. i REALLY don't like allowing this, for two reasons.
1. it's unprecedented. it's a bad precedent to set. cutting a player already drafted, during the draft. i don't like it.
2. it's not fair to the other owners for a player who was previously unavailable to suddenly be available. who's to say that someone else wouldn't have picked him if available?
(the only solution i see to that is that if Tax wants to drop Colston, he's unavailable until after the draft. then we do a quick NFL-style supplemental draft, starting with pick 1.01 which is basically "pass" or "Colston". and it goes either 5 or 6 round or whatever rounds or until someone takes Colston, whichever comes first, and if you pick him up, you lose that round draft pick the next season, like the NFL does with their supplemental draft)
basically, i don't like Colston suddenly being available again. it's just not fair to anyone who might have picked him earlier.

in the interest of keeping this draft going, and not knowing when Wiggs will have internet and/or text again, and not even knowing where he is, i am thinking that we should come to some sort of decision in regards to his current pick.
offensively, if i had 3 RBs and 3 WRs, i'd either go RB or QB.
any more thoughts on this?

I was going to go with a WR, because he had 6 on his roster last year and seems to value them.
But if you have a QB in mind that seems like it is better than any of the WRs, go for it.
I haven't really research QBs yet, so I'll leave it to you. Nothing stands out to me at this point.

Wiggs knows we're drafting, and his unavailability isn't necessarily his fault, but if we wait 24 hours for him, we lose another entire day, and we can't afford that.

Nah, that was just a luddite not quite up to speed with 'I'm out of pocket
Really?? How is that a luddite??
Luddite — n 1. any of the textile workers opposed to mechanization who rioted and organized machine-breaking between 1811 and 1816 2. any opponent of industrial change or innovation

I'm guessing it is derived from the football term, when a QB is scrambling. He could score, or he could take a 20 yard loss.
How walking away from your computer without leaving a queue is analogous, I'm not quite certain. That's more like the basketball situation where scottie pippen benched himself in the finals. He ain't scoring, and he ain't making any mistakes. He ain't doin' nothing.

I know it is sensless to enter these conversations Baldy..but do you not see the difference between the definition; "out from under someone's control; not manageable" and your statement "I'm out of control"?
I was not out of control, I was out of the control of this draft. I was at the cardiologist, and hence under self control.

Alright, I'll jump in and take this thing over for Wiggs for a few days... but I need a few things from the group to help me catch up.
I assume this is only on here and not Kafenatid? Are the leagues rules pretty much default? not a PPR? Starting positions and bench spots?
Anyone got an excel doc. with remaining players I can print out and work off of? feel free to rearrange so i don't know your preferences. I might be without power at some point this weekend due to the hurricane (in Delaware) so a printout would be ideal and I can pick from my phone. Would save me a lot of time.

It is a PPR league and a keeper league. Keepers listed in the keeper thread and included in the players taken listed in this thread.
We only play one QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1WR/RB, TE, 2DB, 2LB, DL, 2IR, 6 bench.
30pass yds - pt 10rush yds - pt 10rec yds - pt 20ret yds - pt 6pts - any TD

Note to Great One
I think those guys will be unhappy you are picking defensive players early. They will want you to be picking offensive flyers now and pick defense/kickers the very last. That's established practice in this league certainly.

One pt for tackles. Half point for the non-solo variety. Big variation from year to year as defensive coordinators change assignments. The greatest defenders often score no points because no one throws their way. You know this stuff. We rarely draft even eight D players earlier than the last seven rounds.

There are lots of IDP which will outscore offensive players at this point in your draft.
In the end, it doesn't matter where the points come from. Ward is a guy who is going to get a lot of points this year.

I don't see why it wouldn't be OK to draft a defensive starter vs. an offensive backup. wiggs will be fine with it. And GO, you haven't won every league you've joined.

just and FYI -- I will probably lost power starting tonight and most of Sunday. But I'll leave my phone charged til the last second.
But also means i can't keep checking as much as I'd like so i can preserve battery power on the phone. But i'll try and check it hourly (just can't be surfing the net).
So I'll try and check the thread, but if anyone can email me that would help, and I'll check emails on my phone periodically and reply right off that.

I'm just following the queue--even if there was an injury I don't feel comfortable making a change to the next guy.
However, if he's out for the season I doubt that boikin would have wanted him. If it's OK with the league I can take the next guy available in his queue.

sent a que to Tree, been refreshing a draft for a league i'm not even in since I ate lunch and am going to sleep soon...
and yeah Tree, I figured since Kaf. was successful for baseball that it would be used across all the Poli leagues. I could have just set up some ques and forgotten about this til i got the magic email. much more time effective than checking back over and over...

btw - unless we switch to Kafenatid or MFL - i.e. an automated draft system - i'm stepping down as commish after the season.
the G24 did 214 picks - 9 rounds, 24 teams - in just over 4 days - an average of about 50 picks a day.
RIFC did 336 picks - 24 rounds, 14 teams - in 8 days - an average of about 42 picks a day.
we've done 120 picks and aren't done yet. it's taken us 9 days so far. that's about 13 picks a day.
it is time to switch. it is time to use a modern drafting program, one that makes the process so much easier for everyone involved. no double picking, lesser long delays, queues, notifications when you're up, etc.
it's time.

Fearless forecast: Bernard Berrian will go on to be the next Bobby Engram. A WR the incompetent Bear organization [which can only do defense] discarded who went on to become a top 50 player all time for his new team.

#24 actually. He was sneaky good in professional ways that help teams and receivers around him more than fantasy teams. He was a rock in a sea of spotty receiver performances around him. Always the player/coach leader of the receiving corp.
One example of many quality WR's the Bears couldn't recognize as valuable because their QB's and OL's and offensive coordinators and team philosophies couldn't begin to utilize them properly.

that's the 24th best Seahawk ever, which probably puts him just outside the greatest 5,000 NFL players ever.

A) You didn't play with him.
i also didn't play with Troy Aikman, but i can tell you he's one of the best players ever. didn't realize not playing with a professional athlete disqualified one from determining that a player isn't one of the great ones.
B) The Seahawks have indeed had their moments.
you're correct. when Mike Holmgren was coaching the team and Shaun Alexander was in his prime, they did some relatively good things - and i say relatively, because a season with double digit wins is a remarkable thing in Seattle, and they achieved 3 of them during the Holmgren/Alexander Era.
but that's about it. you're talking about an unremarkable player on an unremarkable franchise that has managed just 5 double digit win totals in 35 seasons. why you're playing up Bobby Engram and the Seattle Seahawks to be world beaters is beyond me.

Obviously I know more about the respect Engram was and is held in on that team than you do.
I completely concur that his single 1000 yard season does not remind any fantasy manager of Jerry Rice.
However his entire career with the Seahawks he was the one guy who was most reliable on his routes, in his hands, in his non-diva uber-professional player/coach conduct and that was during a long drought of flaky receivers, shaky QB's, failed coaching, injury marred lost seasons for the Seahawks. That he didn't hit 1000 yards was not his fault.
He earned his #24 all-time Seahawk ranking and you're just too stubborn or uninformed to know that.

You just have no respect for the slot receiver, GO.
I think it's pretty clear my original point, that the Bears wouldn't recognize a good WR if he bit them in the butt, has been made. Or they wouldn't be dumping Seattle's all-time greatest slot receiver and team captain.
See Johnny Knox for current relevance. I am guessing Bennett will eventually prove the point. And Berrian in Minn.

It's called being open minded and having real world experience. I have spent quite a bit of time in churches. Never mind the myriad of friends of mine who are regular church goers, my ex girlfriend (the girl i moved to nyc for) worked for her church, and my best friend in NYC converted from Judaism to Christianity.
But even more than that, is common sense. There isn't a Christian i've ever known who so viciously and callously attacks ones perceived enemies as you do, and with such a proud, vain, and arrogant swagger.

Can my DL outscore your LB and TB's best wideout for a whole quarter? It would take quite a momentum change.

I get a miracle win which I won't actually count until I see no blue asterisks later this week. Very close.

saw Baldwin's comment on his yahoo team page about having to take a zero for Addai today because of our skinny bench.
while i agree our bench is a bit skinny, you didn't have to take a zero - you CHOSE to take a zero.
you've got a backup QB and a back up TE on your bench. i would have dropped one of them - especially the QB - to not take a goose egg.
your starting QB doesn't have a bye until week 11. there are currently a half-dozen QBs on the waiver wire that are putting up numbers similar or better to your back up, and about 10 starting QBs hanging out on the waiver wire.
no idea why you kept a guy like Jay Cutler when doing so could make the difference between winning and losing this week.

I like Tony Gonzalez and Cutler a lot better than anyone on the WW. I think TG has proven that already. If the Chicago O-line plays anything like they did today, the rest of the year, you'll see why I kept Cutler too.

If Robbie Gould had just kicked two field goals without missing Sunday, he would have been the all time most accurate kicker in NFL history.
He choked.
Robbie Gould has been dropped by 10921 teams in Yahoo! leagues
Man, people are fickle.
But at least he's pullin' down a couple million a year. He has a twin brother who can kick just as accurately as Robbie but who isn't employed.
Man, life is fickle.

it's pretty amazing watching the live scoring/stat tracker.
if the season were to end right this very second, there would be FIVE teams tied for first place with 9-4 records, but B7 would take the regular season crown with a fairly large PF margin.
but the other four teams? 23.25 points separate 2nd place from 5th place.

Of course bili would have been screwed when Vick went down but he offered Newton for a keeper WR and as much as I like Bowes 29pt games I'll prolly be keeping Gronkowski instead.

Reggie Bush is exactly the kind of player I love in real life who has always burned me in fantasy sports. The super-talent who for some reason teams feel they can't expose to full-time use. I know he's doing well, but I couldn't keep him and I don't believe it will last.

Astade had Payton Manning, and PV...
Can anyone honestly say looking at PV's team at the start of the year that that could possibly ever be a last place team? Rivers/Gates/Fitzgerald/Gore/Plaxico/Bush/Julio Jones?
I stand by my tagline, 'best league parity I ever saw.'

Didn't you already clinch last week, MBJ?
I sure have a knack for winning the meaningless games. Reel off 4 straight wins make sure I screw up my draft position for next year.
Generally I like to hit my stride going into the playoffs, but I have to actually make the playoffs...

This league is always tight. The waiver system causes parity. Always letting the last place team go first should improve those losing teams. Every week, two or three players emerge due to injuries, playing time, matchups, suddenly becoming good, etc.

The emergence of Gronkowski and Antonio brown should have made my team unstoppable but with the Schaub injury, Chris Johnson taking the year off, Ahmad Bradshaw unusable...It's amazing I'm in the playoffs at all. Especially in this league.
I lost Bradshaw and Peyton Manning in my other league and made the playoffs but there is a much much weaker lower half league there.
Crazy as it sounds, I'd love to see what Favre could do with these Bears WR's. They are much better than they've shown due to OL/QB injury/youth growing pains/OFF coord-QB mismatch.
At least Bears avoid the QB controversy if that would still be possible with Favre.
I've got to wait late to see my fate. A Romo/Witten/Victor Cruz combo I'm facing could spoil my season late tonite. And Rice vs Indy. Yikes.

as much as i wanted to win this league, i'll take the money league any day.

thanks B7. it sucked having that many points - in fact, the second highest point total in the playoffs (the first being to the team that beat me) and my third highest point total of the season.
it was that team's highest score of the season by nearly 20 points, and only their third total over 175 all season.
but, that's the breaks, and good luck to the both of you!

Very strong way to finish the season, B7.
I just lost the championship game in my other keeper league and my playoff games were disappointing enuff to have me considering drafting purely for the post-season schedule. Ugh!
Do you?

Not really. I just try to stockpile good players, so you have some choices in the playoffs. Plus teams that you think will be bad on defense in August, can be good in December....Houston, Denver, Seattle, etc. and vice-versa. I used to do draft that way in RIFC, but it didn't work well for me. First you have to make the playoffs.
In the finals I benched Aaron Rodgers, Beanie Wells, Brandon Lloyd, and Mike Tolbert. Picked up Kahlil Bell and Matt Moore and used them. Benching Rodgers could have backfired, but it worked out OK. I didn't want to take the chance he only played one half or not at all.
When you get to this level, the playoffs are a lot about luck about karma. All the coaches are good in this league. Posts 398 and 402 went a long way in helping me win the title.

My son was religious about drafting only players with great playoff schedules. He crushed one year but that was because he was also religious about beating us to the waiver wire. Otherwise I could usually beat him so I didn't take play-off schedule seriously until now. I'm really soul-searching this post-mortem season.
