Hope my fellow Gurupies on the East Cost are doing OK. I've heard from a few of you already.
Some amazing shots of what is going on--the scope of this storm is living up to its billing:

Shot of the HSS Bounty, off the coast on NC.
As I told a FB friend of mine yesterday:
"Wow. I've been on that ship. It docked in NYC and we had a book party on it for the re-release of Patrick O'Brian's WINE DARK SEA. All sorts of celebs showed up, like Walter Cronkite and others who were huge fans of the guy. Someone accidentally locked him in a room belowdecks, and he shimmied up some small opening like a cabin boy. He was like 82 at the time."

Thanks PD. Doing ok. Being on the upper east side was fortunate. Upper Manhattan largely did not get impacted the way below 39th street did, with power outtages, and then flooding downtown. The financial district and battery park city got a lot of flooding. Parts of the outer boroughs were crushed, and NJ got hammered, and Long Island got hit hard, too. I have a lot of friends and coworkers who either do not have power or who lost power and got it back. I have some friends with houses who had water damage. It's almost BAU here where I live, and we never lost power. So lucky. I have been telecommuting for the week, and school is out all week. Only essential personnel are allowed to go to my office as we are working off of back-up generators. I'm in the wall street area.
I have not posted here lately as a result of my work situation. I regularly lurk, and frankly still find more insightful comments here than in most poli places. It's good to see.

Glad you're OK walk.
Work put me in a hotel Sunday and I'd been stuck in Manhattan 2 blocks from work until last night when they set me up with a car service home.
No power or heat at my house on Long Island but no damage.
Drove around a little last night after I finally got home. The next town over doesn't appear to have had any cleanup yet. Most streets I turned on were blocked by downed trees and wires.
We slept at my in-laws in Massapequa Park, where they had heat and power but no cable.
For anyone without property damage or health issues to deal with while power is out, the worst issue is transportation into and around the city. One coworker from Queens sat on a shuttle bus for hours at around 1 mile per hour before they gave up and let everyone off several miles before they got to the bridge.
Last night trying to get out of the city we sat in traffic for 20 min before we got even 2 blocks toward the east side. Driver gave up, ducked into a parking garage to come out on the other side and head back to the West Side Hwy to take that up to Harlem and cross the Triboro Bridge, an unthinkable detour under normal circumstances that I wouldn't have even considered but he got me home faster than if I was driving.
Took a another car service in this morning. Had them pick me up at 5:30am and that was early enough to beat the traffic, even with a detour into Brooklyn to pick up a couple of coworkers on the way. The detour was necessary because NYPD isn't letting any cars containing fewer than three people into the city.
The bike path on the Manhattan Bridge was apparently crowded enough that a few ventured onto the roadway on their bicycles. Never seen that before.
Crossing the bridge at dawn and seeing all the unlit downtown buildings was something. Everything below about 34th st is still dark.

I'm ok, generally. Thanks to the 4 or 5 gurupies who asked, and to the rest of you, no such luck.

Today was the first I had heard about how bad Staten Island was hit and how they had been ignored. What a storm!

NYC Marathon cancelled
The sight of three truck generators keeping the media tent going was probably a little too much at this point, with so many out of power still.

It looks like they are anticipating power crews being out there for awhile. I saw a large convoy of line trucks at a rest area in IN this morning. I also saw a PG&E truck yesterday. Does PG&E have properties not on the West Coast?

I believe, trucks, crew and equipment, is coming in from nationwide to support the restoration of power.

Sounds like the 4, 5, 6, and 7 trains are back in service in NYC. Great job by all those crews getting them back in service.

I'm assuming all of those trains are above ground only? Or have they gotten some of the tunnels pumped dry already?
