High risk, high return. I went out and grabbed 1 free-agent this year. N.Perez! I don't think there is a offense that can compare with this one now. I also have 50million reasons to doubt spending all that cash was a wise move but a championship will definately change my mind.

I can't believe its season 7 already!! I believe this season could be the start of a transition period when the rebuilding teams like mets and white sox, Astros and Orioles will start making grounds oh the old perenial power house Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees and Royals. By the look of it, I don't think our cubbies have a very good shot at going to the WS for the 5th straight year.

After losing three straight and a heart breaking loss in game 7 of WS last year, 2 Long time Cub SPs decided to pack their bags and head to the golf course. That coupled with Cubbie owners decision of cutting the 60M payroll from last year, resulted in us getting no Free Agents what so every this year. The Mets on the otherhand decided to pour out some money and have gotten some much needed pitching to couple with their Strong,Young, and still devloping offense. But they may need another year before I can say that they are statistically better than the Cubs.

As of now, Dodgers appear to be the strongest team in the NL, with the addition of N.Perez, his line-up if full of power and average. Not to mention his fantastic pitching rotation which can only be matched by the Cubs in the NL and Yankees in the AL. With his players rapidly aging, and AAA players not yet ready, it seem that Dodgers are giving it all out to break the WS jinx that had haunted them for the last 6 years. Astros gave their best effort this offseason to improve the team, but with practically no quality SP, it looks like the division still belong to the Dodgers.

Yankees are facing a very grim reality, his two best pitcher are already in the retirement territory, and while their replacements Randy Niles and Ben Weber are ready in the AAA, it is still a substantial downgrade from what he has now. Orioles seem to sense that, and have started to make off season aquisitions. But until they do retire, AL East still belong to Yanks.

Royals are in similar situation to the cubs, in that we both have 2 Young aces that will soon become the 4 best pitchers in the league. And we also suffer the same problem of having no AAA SPs that can taken on important roles in the near future. I expect to see Royals retain his Division Title, this year, but perhaps with White Sox too close for comfort.

The Cubs have just pulled off a blockbuster with division rival Mets, sending six Chicago minor leaguers to the Big Apple for veteran starter Brandon Reed and young flamethrower Tomokazu Ohka. The Cubs GM released a statement saying, "we hope Reed will stabilize the back of our rotation, which was decimated by the retirements of longtime Cub staples Ramos and Osborne during the past offseason." Brian Carmody, ace of the Cubs staff, had this to offer: "Brandon is true professional -- the man knows how to pitch. Even I can learn a few tricks from him." Ohka was subsequently demoted to AAA Iowa where he will work with the AAA pitching coach on refining his mechanics.

Is anyone interested in three quality MLB hitters? Jason Romano (440 AVG 390 HR), Brant Brown (444AVG 403HR), and David Dellucci (456AVG 392 HR) are available. They can be had very cheaply.

Also available: AAA Julio Ramirez 416AVG 463HR
Anyone else 28 +.

All can be had very cheaply. Make offers or let me know. Willing to package 5 players together for a franchise player.

Yes my Mets are ripping the league apart. It's not a fluke though, I have improved my team dramatically from the end of last season to now.

Do you know what I want? I want some more participation from owners in the league. There are 5 or 6 dedicated owners that post regularly, and are active in the league. I wish that the other 10 managers could participate more. I think that is what makes the league strong.

I understand that when rebuilding owners tend to be quiet, but it would be better if we could get a few more owners here. I know that Coglin and Synocco have asked them to come here quite a few times, but they never seem to.

Take a look at the P2 Board! 61 posts in 6 days. That is awesome. I want our league to be that active. Granted, 25 posts were arguing, but I think being active and speaking up makes this game even better.

Any idea how we could get people to participate more?

I'd post more, but my team is struggling with the .500 mark. There's only so many "Wow, look at the Mets go" posts you can make. Right now, I'm as active as I can be. When I start winning, THEN I'll post every day-and twice on Friday.

Well, it look like while the mets are doing their thing (and maybe overachieving just a bit:P) our cubbies are falling asleep. Apparently, they still have not recovered from the WS loss last year. Nevertheless, it would be refreshing not having to draft last:)

In the interest of generating some discussion, here are my Power Rankings for L2. I have only taken into account major league rosters and performance this year (minor leagues are ignored).

1. Yankees
Slow coming out of the gate, but it's hard to argue with Bohannon and Thompson. Lineup is studly too. Have to give props to the defending WS Champs.

2. Mets
New York Teams #1 and #2? How quaint. Team is slowly completing a conversion to a lineup of 9 outfielders. Bullpen has question marks, but a .875 winning percentage is hard to ignore.

3. Dodgers
Monstrous lineup instills fear into hearts of pitchers everywhere. Rangel is finally awake after years of hibernation. Entire pitching staff is strong, and anchored by Clontz.

4. Royals
It's business as usual. Good hitting and good pitching up and down the roster. Will be even scarier once Darryl Scott stops throwing batting practise fastballs.

5. Cubs
A flury of offseason trades changed the complexion of the team somewhat and the team chemistry has suffered. Carmody has looked very human but the talent on the team is there.

6. White Sox
Boast the 2nd best record in the league, but is it all smoke and mirrors? Everyone is overachieving, but if they keep it up for a whole season then they'll earn the respect of the league.

7. Giants
Brad Guy is leading the way and the hitting is keeping pace. Can the bullpen hold things together?

8. Mariners
Half these guys are drawing pension checks, but there are batting titles up and down the lineup. They may be old and crotchety, but they can still hit.

9. Braves
Roger Clemens is starting look like a bargain after this free agency period, and he gives the team a bonafide ace. The rest of the pitching is suspect, however and the hitting is only average.

10. Rangers
Who is Julio Aquino and why is he making $2 million per inning pitched so far? Young lineup's time will come, but not yet.

11. Astros
Losing Bergman, Corey has left the rotation in tatters and decent hitting isn't enough to compensate.

12. Orioles
What happened? One of the most promising with lots of youth and talent has been a bust so far. Needs a real pitcher.

13. Cardinals
Revolving door ownership has drained this team. Holes in the lineup and pitching staff abound.

14. Padres
The hitting instructor ought to be fired. The hitters have talent, but look like lambs at the slaughterhouse at the plate. Bergman signing has helped, but pitchers can't win when the team is scoring 3 runs a game.

15. Red Sox
Just lost its best hitter to the Mets who are collection outfielers like Pokemon cards. A random mishmash of players, it needs a strong owner to give the team direction.

16. Indians
Mostly a collection of AAA players. Can be beaten by Dodgers' or Royal's AAA teams. Has shown some life so far, but don't be fooled.

Comments, suggestions?

You have to love my team of outfielders. I deal with the fact that I could lose games on an error every time I play a game. However, even with all the outfielders, only 2 people are out of position a game.

Does anyone remember Hundley playing left field for the Mets? He was terrible. That is the chance you take when you play people out of their normal positions. If my team hits .320 for the year, I'll take my 3 errors a game.

Quite surprise to see my Yankees given top billing. Definitely feel my team is underachieving right now. Have to admit I was critical of the Mets dealing two starting pitchers to his division rivals, but it appears it is working out for him. Have to be the surprise team so far. Manager of the year???

I for one are a bit surpised by the METS tremendous start. I looked at some film and I see some flaws. I will NOT lose this series tonight!. I want claim to being the best team for once. I have battled major injuries so far this season and I am still winning. I have lost Newman, Williams, Perez and now Burks to injuries and I keep on rolling. Can Manny Ramirez repeat as MVP?

Is BARNSBY the top SP prospect? He was ranked in the 20's on the pitching prospect list. I don't put much stock in computer ranking. His #'s are 496FB 431CV 399BR 361CT. He is still getting better, and I see him getting his curve in the 480+ range. Right now he had 1687 piching pts!

I've been dissapointed in my start so far. Scott has struggled and has been demoted to 4th starter and I need to get another big arm in the pen. I think I can still win the division, but I'll have some competition for sure.

Barnsby is not the top SP prospect, but he's not bad. His control is low for a starter, but still pretty high for only 2 stars. You may find him better in the pen as a closer although he does have starter's stamina.

Hey guys I am the new owner of the Red Sox, and come in to find my team ranked 15th in the power rankings. Which seems about right, based on the fact that my MLB team is rather pathetic. Its going to take me the rest of the season, I'm sure to get used to the game but I hope to be fielding a competive team in 2-3 seasons. My young pitching needs time to mature and I;ll have a few drafts and such under my belt.

It will probably take more than 2-3 seasons. My first league was L2, and I have been in the league from the start and it took me until this year to become truly competitive. My team was pitiful when I got it (just like yours). My first .500+ season was last year. This isn't to discourage you though. I'm just informing you that it will take time. STICK WITH IT. When you do become a contender the victory will be even sweeter. Ahh...21-3....

Nice power rankings, even if I should be 11th. You're not kidding about the "real pitcher" thing. Ever since I missed out on Carmody via the loophole, I've had my ass handed to me .500 style.

Is there any consistency among SP, other than the big 6? I have guys with good numbers getting battered in several leagues. By the way, nice heist by the Yankees. Two great young players for half-a-season from Bohanon. I'll never win this division.

Owners of Chicago Cubs have just announced that the hitting coach for the Cubs is fired for his inability to cure the hitting jinxed that had plagued the team all season. This news came as no suprise, the team batted 30-40 pts below expectation, and is currently 6 games out of playoffs. The new coach is also named at the conference. A one time Cubbie, and a future hall of famer, Carlos Febles, will be handed the task of turning the squad around. Slugger Wally Joyner was quoted so say "He is one of the all time great... I'm looking forward to learn from him." The hot young super star Robinson Cancel:"What a move.. I grew up idolizing the guy, and now I get to work with him in person.....I want to be a lifetime Cubbie!!" Coglin, the Co-GM for the Cubs :"We just really need to make a move..we believe Febles is the guy.." and lastly the man him self "This team should rival with any other in the league..hopefully I can play a big part in turning them around."

No, Put me in, Coach is right. The Giants picked out 4 guys with the lowest stamina ratings and made them starters and then set Bohannon to be long relief. That way, he got 12 innings worth of Bohannon in the series. I think this is highly against the spirit of the game.

Ya, I agree with you guys, it is fairly cheap to slot bohannon into the reliever role. At least you stuck it to him in game 3. And on another note the suprising Red Sox defeat the AL West leading White Sox 3-1 in a 4 game series vaulting them back into the driver's seat in the AL East. Can the underdog Red Sox's pull off another miracle series victory against division rival New York? (probably not but it would be nice)

Synocco, you said what the Giants are doing re. starting relievers is "highly against the spirit of the game". I agree, but I also think the Mets playing Lopez at SS and 2B is as well. I don't think we're ever going to convince these teams of that, but it doesn't make it any less true.

Since there's no money on the line I can't squawk too loudly about it. If it was a cash league, however, I'd complain like a girl.

As for the METS, the players out of position will and has hurt him. At least, there is a penalty in playing players out of position (errors) but there is no penalty in what the GIANTS are doing. The METS had a few key errors in my series that hurt him.

I don't see what is so "against the spirit of the game" about it. I have a surplus of catchers and OF's and I am not going to sit them in favor of playing an inferior shortstop or second baseman. Because of my dilema, I have lost games because of it, and will lose games in the future. I also asked a few seasons back what everyones opinion of it was. I don't see anything wrong with it seeing as you get penalized for doing so. Therefore, I don't appreciate you telling me what I am doing is against the spirit of the game.

I feel that I am a fair GM. I am always open to trading my excess OF's in return for players of equal skill level at another position. I wouldn't exploit loopholes that I would feel compromise the integrity of the game. Since I do get penalized for it, I feel there is nothing wrong with it, and will continue to do so until I can find adequate replacements.

I have another team in GSB and I have one player for each position. I don't purposely go finding players of the same position and stacking my lineup with them. I wouldn't trade a catcher with a 500 avg for a SS with a 450 avg, would you?

I sent the Giants a polite email with my opinion on what they are doing. If enough of us email him and apply some collective pressure, they'll probably come around.

As for what the Mets are doing, I don't see what he is currently doing as being wrong. But I don't think that the sim penalizes teams enough for playing players out of position. However, I think that the attempt to trade away Burns (3B) and Medrano (2B) who are fine players to give more at bats to outfielders was ill-advised from sportsmanship perspective.

I agree. Which is why I rejected any and all offers for the two. I changed my mind and would like to trade Higginson away instead. I still want to trade Brown away as well.

When I made the offer I really didn't realize exactly what I was doing, I just wanted to have an offense that could compete with the Cubs. Right now, I am trying to make my team more well rounded, with no OF's playing 2B or SS and I will make a few more trades until this is completed.

All I ask is that everyone works with me until I can complete this task, and that you all understand that I am not trying to find a loophole in the game or anything of the sort. I want to be a fair GM, and I'm not willing to win at all costs. However, at the same time, I'm not going to trade away all my OF's for below market value.

I have two SS in AAA who I am waiting to promote once they reach the level of a quality major leaguer. That may be a season away and I plan on waiting, and not trading for a SS.

I just would like everyone to know that I am not trying to "win at all costs" and that ever since this problem arose late last season, (when I started adding OF's) I have been trying to remedy it. Early this year I just kept adding superstar OF's and cluttering my lineup even further. I had the opportunity to gain a superstar player, and I of course took it regardless of the position. Work with me in trying to fix my problem and please don't call what I am doing "against the spirit of the game" because I take that very seriously, and it hurts because I know that is not the case. Hopefully I will get everyones' support now that they know the situation better.

Is the guy who did the Bohannon thing called Brian Kootz. If so, I don't think he will care what you say (check out the main GSB message boards).

A guy called Brian Kootz has been telling everyone in the boards what a great idea it is to use your best pitcher for 10+ innings a series. He calls it the key reliever theory.

I suggest you also email the Commish about it as a bug that should be fixed. I think the best way to stop it would be to limit the number of innings each pitcher could pitch in a series to 8. If they exceed this, then the sim should select another pitcher.

Tonight's Interleague Royals-Cubs Preview
Chicago, Ill. The Kansas City Royals travel to Wrigley Field to open up a four game interleague series tonight with the hometown Cubbies. The Cubs and Royals are familiar foes after facing each other in consecutive World Series in Seasons 3 and 4, with each team taking a title. The Cubbies have been to four straight series winning two and losing two, but their streak may end this year as the NY Mets currently have a 9 game lead in the division. The Royals have won 4 straight AL West division titles losing out to the NY Yankees in the AL division series the last two seasons. They are currently tied for 1st place at 21-15 with the cross-town Whitesox.

On paper the Royals seem to have the edge going into this series, but we all know that games are not played on paper - they are played inside our computers. The Royals hold the edge in batting average .292 to .281 and ERA 4.28 to 4.63, and the Royals bullpen has more saves 15 to 9. Each team has a pair of young stud starters, but only the Royal's Downs has pitched as expected posting a 6-1 record with a 3.16 ERA. Carmody and Bell have stuggled for the Cubs posting ERA's over 4, and Scott has a ERA of 6.19 although he did combine with a reliever to toss an 3 hit shutout his last outing. Both bullpens are pretty sound with Caraccioli, Negrette and former Met Brandon Reed leading the way for the Cubs, and Heredia and young fireballer Osuna for the Royals.

Even though both teams have struggled so far this season, the anticipated matchup has several story lines to follow. The teams completed a deal a few weeks back with the Cubs sending veteran Trace Coquillette and two minor league starters to the Royals for starter/releiver Keith Connolly and two minor league hitters. Asked about returning to Wrigley, Coquillette remarked, "It'll be nice to see the guys again, but it's just business as usual." Sources say otherwise as Trace has quietly let his frustration be known that he was not happy being put on the trade block and subsequently traded without any word from the Cubs management. Trace had wanted to finish his career in Chicago, but now he has a chance to make the playoffs with the Royals and possibly help knock his former team out of contention. Keith Connolly will make his second start of the year against his former team. Connolly was obtained by the Royals a year earlier in a trade, but never pitched for the big club. In his first start for his new team, he threw 5 solid innings before losing his stuff and getting knocked around in the 6th.

Matchups are slated as follows:
In game 1 the Royals will go with Michael Rubio (6-0 4.83) who will face Pedro Martinez (4-2 3.36). Game 2 will pit young superstars Downs (6-1 3.16) vs Carmody (4-4 4.80). After a fine outing last week, Darryl Scott (3-4 6.19) will go in game 3 vs. former Royal Keith Connolly (0-0 7.50). Game 4 will see Jeremy Callier (1-3 4.17) face Mike Bell (3-5 4.34).

A few tickets are still available for each game.

The Cubs continue to dominate the Royals in regular season play taking 3 out of 4. The Royals jumped on Pedro in the 1st inning of game 1 for 5 runs, and then had trouble scoring in the rest of the series. Michael Rubio had a solid outing to improve his record to 7-0 giving the Royals the victory to open the series. The rest of the series was dominated by pitching, mainly on the Cubs side. Brian Carmody again outdueled Downs in game 2 and Keith Connolly exacted revenge on his former team by outpitching Darryl Scott in game 3. Game 4 saw some excitement as Alex Cintron hit a game tying 2 run homer in the top of the 9th off ace reliever Caraccioli, only to have Cancel end the game with a dramatic walk-off blast onto Waveland Ave. The Royals begin an eight game homestand and prepare for the division leading Whitesox.

Two Cancel Homeruns the Difference

Robinson Cancel provided the late-inning heroics as the Cubs took three out of four from the AL West-contending Royals. With the game tied 2-2 during the 8th inning of the third game, Cancel slammed a solo-shot over the ivy to plate the winning run. During the fourth game, with the scored knotted at 3 a-piece in the bottom of the ninth, Cancel once again found the bleachers in right. The walk-off homerun marked the end to a hard-fought series between the two well-matched teams.

"It was like deja vu, man," exclaimed Cancel, a former Rookie of the Year winner and league MVP. "Our team has struggled at times this year, but we're definitely savouring this one."

Series notes:
  • Miguel Rubio won his league-leading 7th game of the season, keeping his record a perfect 7-0.
  • Carmody's 8 innings of shutout ball and 10 strikeouts during game 2 marked his best start of the year.
  • Former Royals farmhand Keith Connolly recorded the first win of his career as a starter.

    Tonight's AL West Whitesox-Royals Preview
The Whitesox currently hold a 2 game edge on the Royals after taking 3 of 4 from the Cardinals. The Whitesox are making a major push to dethrone the Royals, winners of the past 4 division titles. Chicago's top three starters have pitched well this season and all three turned in quality outings agains the Cards. The teams matchup pretty closely with the Royals holding a slight edge in team ERA 4.25 to 4.44 and lead the Sox in hitting .287 to .263.

The pitching matchups are as follows:
In game 1, Mark Harriger (5-2 3.46) will try to foil the perfect record of Michael Rubio (7-0 4.50). Game 2 will pit John Thomson (2-2 2.81) against Downs (6-2 3.43) who is looking to regain his form after giving up 4 runs in 6 innings last game, the worst start this season. Eddie Priest (4-2 3.82) will face his former team and go against Scott (3-4 5.77) who has shaved over 2 points off his ERA after two solid outings in a row. Game 4 will see youngster Jimmy Anderson (2-4 5.24) face veteran Jeremy Callier (1-3 4.35) who is still struggling with his stuff since coming over from the Giants in a trade last season. The Royals took 3 out of 4 from the Whitesox in week 2.

Additional notes from the Cubs-Royals series.

Apparently, Cancel's homerun was so dramatic that there is some discrepency as to the direction of the blast. After a tape replay, the ball is shown to land in the right field bleachers and then unbelievably ricocheted all the way over to Waveland Ave. Without the benefit of instant replay, this phenomenon would have gone unexplained!

Also, Trace Coquillete found the going tough against his former mates going 4-17 in the four games managing only singles. "Brian, Mike and the kid Connally sure were tough. I had trouble picking up the ball for some reason. You have to tip your cap to them."

I would have to vote for the Dodgers. But it's pretty close. Starting pitching-wise the Dodgers have a slight edge. Bullpens are about equal. Hitting wise, the Dodgers have an edge due to all of their power hitters. True, the Mets have scored more runs than the Dodgers thus far; but I think this has been a result of the Mets having faced weaker pitching in Interleague play and the Dodgers being injured early in the season.

I think the Mets has an advantage in Speed, and if it counts to anything, better Luck. By luck I mean Mets have a larger number of hitters who are hitting way above their projected number(e.g. BA>AVG-180). Is this enough to upset the statistical differences between them and the Dodgers? I guess we'll see:)
After realizing there is no hope to contend, the Cubbies have gone on a trading frenzy, made a record five trades before the trading deadline. One notable trade sees Cubs sending a couple prospects to the Mets for Greene, a young OF, Cubs then turned around and traded him to the Whitesox for young ace closer Brandon Knight. One source close to the GMs said "We did these trade with the key of getting younger and more balanced in mind....we are lagging behind other teams... After this disappointing year we realize that we cannot depend only on guys with high average and no power." The Cubs offence hit a brick wall this year, after leading the league in average and runs scored for 3 stright year, they are not among top three in most offensive categories.

Looks like there is a bidding war going on for Monds. Seems a little high for a player that you may only be renting for a few weeks. I was in for him early, but after 5 Mil I don't see wasting my money. And what happened with the price? For a minute I saw it at 10M and then it was back down to 7.5.

I got Monds, but I didn't send the e-mail and I don't think it was the Padres either. That e-mail was sent from the Padres of B2. I had set my window to top the 7 mill offer and then I left. When I came back opening a different window I noticed it was on 10 mill. I wasn't interested in going that high, but since my other window was already set for 7.5 mill I went ahead and submitted the bid. So basically I got Monds on a glitch.

As far as I'm concerned, the Giants are still a pretty bad team with Bohannon and have thrown away a big chunk of their future to get Bohannon. Here's hoping that the Big B retires. :)

I didn't even realize they were from B2 as mentioned above. I was looking to bolster my offense, but since he was another OF, it doesn't hurt to much that I missed out. Still curious to know what did happen though. Keep me posted.

Yeah, it would be great to have a full 16 team active league. After all the work we've put into our teams in this league, I wouldn't want to abandon it just to join a more active league. Maybe we can recruit a few more managers that we know plays the game fairly and convince the Giants to mend their ways. I'd be willing to adopt certain rules for the league. A few we already are abiding by after some exploitation in the early seasons.

What I propose is that we set up some rules that we can all agree on. This way if a team violates them shall feel the pressure of the whole league(or the teams that are in this "union") fall upon them. Much like a owner's union or a commissioners office for the league or something. :)

Yanks, why would you spend $7.5M on an outfielder that might retire after the season, when you have a 24 year old outfielder at AAA with comparable or slightly better overall numbers than Monds? Do you have that much extra money to throw around?

For the Mets my question would be why would you risk losing $10M just to inflate the price for another team? Just wondering.

As for my team, I could have used Monds to bolster my offense for the stretch run even though I don't really need him, knowing that I probably would only be renting him for a few weeks. I was prepared to spend about 3M on him and then after the price went above that I decided to bid up to 5M against my better judgement. After 5M there was no way I was going to waste money even though I've got a pretty decent stash I could spend. I'll save it for minor league FA or NLers.

Well, if I were the GM of the Yanks and I thought that Monds would lock up a postseason berth for me and improve my chances for getting to the World Series I'd pay for Monds too. Why waste a year of Iapoce's service for a few weeks of play? To me, a year of Iapoce is worth about $7.5 million, since the going rate for someone with those ratings is more than that on the free agent market.

Sure, I agree that I wouldn't bring up a player of that caliber this late in a season and waste a year of service. If he felt he needed that extra bat, why not bring him up earlier in the year? He maxed out several weeks back if my numbers are correct, and he could have locked him up longterm for less than 2 Mil a season, probably closer to 1M. I did the same with Cintron locking him up at 1 Mil a season and their ratings are almost identical. These guys will never see the FA market unless they don't re-sign in the last year of the contract. If they don't, then they might garner upwards of 7M a season, but not from me. I tend to overspend in getting good pitching like a Rubio who I've been pleased with even with an ERA higher than I'd like. I do have Castilla signed at over 7M a season, but he's a rare find. Now if only he would start putting up the numbers I pay him to put up! ;)

The reason I bid 10 million was because he would help my team. I would likely sit one of my lesser OF's for 3 games and put him for those 3. If something will help my team, I will go for it. If he sticks around for one more year after this I really fell the 10 million was worth it. Also, 10 million is like petty cash to me, because I am swimming in money.

I think the Cubs answered most of your question for me. Except you have to remember I just got Iapoce in the Bohanon trade, so I haven't had him all season.
Unfortunately, there is way too much money in this game. I'm sure I'm not the only team that can pay a 37 yr 7.5 million without having to blink an eye. Heck, I had a team in another league that had a payroll of more than 90 million for four years in a row and never lost money. The only reason it is less now is because players retired. I try to be fiscally responsible because I am basically cheap in real life, but in this game I'm not always sure it is necessary.
On a side note, I offered the Mariners more in a trade for Monds. He declined and a day later he puts him on waivers. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Why is it we small market teams never get a fair shake? I think we should institute revenue sharing in GSB. While the New York, LA and Chicago teams benefit from TV contracts, here in Kansas City it is tough to field a quality team year after year. So each of you big market teams, reach into your pockets and send us a few million. ;)

I don't want to say how poor I am but trust me, it is low. I might be the poorest team right now. I am waiting for my prospects to join the majors and cheapen my payroll.
I have over 14players in my minors with over 400avg and counting which I will be selling off next year!

Have had a dissapointing year considering that this team is probably the best one i have (certainly in the best state when i took over).

Good luck to the Dodgers tomorrow. It seems to be a pretty fair match up between my Mets and Put Me in, Coach's Dodgers. Both teams finished 46-18. It seems the Mets have a slight edge in offense (average wise, anyway) and the Dodgers have a slight edge with their pitching staff. The Mets are making their first apperance in the NLCS, and intend on staying there for many years. They endured 6 long years of rebuilding, from a team with nothing, to a team that seems to have all the pieces. Should be interesting.

Good luck to the Yankees and the Royals in the AL. Now for some predictions:

Okay, here's my predictions: I predict a Dodger sweep in the NL, and a near Royal sweep in the AL, thanks to a bullpen blowup in game 1. Wow, I would not have guessed either. I figured the Dodgers had the edge, but who would have guessed a sweep. I was thinking game 1 was key to the series for my team, and when I saw the bullpen collapse allowing the Yanks to pull it out I thought I was done for. I figured Downs would give me a good chance to win game 2 and that Scott, if he pitched as he should, could give me a boost in game 3. Callier has been spotty for two seasons, but thanks to the offense he doesn't have to be perfect.

Looks like I was right on about some short series. Unfortunately, my team is in a real pickle. Rookie pitcher Weber got a real taste of the playoffs. The Dodgers showed him what he can do with his 7-1 3.10 record.

at 7-6, Thompson is a Cy Young candidate by name only. I would throw my rookie Ben Weber in there before him or better yet, my closer Romulo Martinez 1.23 era 1-0 with 19 saves in 20 appearances.

Yeah, Weber probably does have better credentials than Thompson. But hey, those are only my personal nominations. There are probably some that I've missed, especially in the Rookie of the Year category.

I was surprised by how well Weber did. Are we gonna be seeing Randy Niles in action next season? :) He looks pretty studly. Can you imagine if the Braves had kept all of their young pitching? Brian Carmody, Randy Niles, and Jeff Harris would be a fearsome triumvirate of young guns. The Braves had hitters too... Man, that would have been a dynasty.

Congrats to the Royals for wrapping up the ALCS in the first game tonight, holding the Yankees to just 4 hits.
I still go with the Dodgers for the WS but i think it will be close. Good luck to both teams.

I'm going to have a tough time against the Dodgers. It will probably go 6 or 7, and I give his team the slight edge. I just hope my top 3 starters can tame those Dodger bats enough for my bats to come alive. Should be a good series. I predict that if I lose game 1, I will lose the series 5-1. If I win games 1 and 2, then I predict a 4-2 series win for my Royals. If Scott pitches well in game 3 that could change the tide, but he's struggled this year and those big bats are a little scary.

    My Award Nominations and rankings:

    NL MVP
    1. Perez 1.051 OPS
    2. Ramirez .937 OPS *74 RBI*
    3. Carvajal .939 OPS
    4. Taveras .934 OPS

Perez is the obvious winner IMO, but Ramirez put up some big RBI numbers to finish a close 2nd. I'm big on OPS so Carvajal finishes above Taveras.

    AL MVP
    1. Brown .959 OPS
    2. Jackson .930 OPS
    3. Larkin .911 OPS
    4. Glaus .904 OPS

Brown had an impressive season and swiped 25 SBs on top of that. Again, OPS is the main criteria in how I ranked these guys.

    NL CY Young
    1. Rangel 1.21 WHIP
    2. Bergman 1.15 WHIP
    3. Carmody 1.24 WHIP
    4. Bell 1.20 WHIP
    5. Corey 1.23 WHIP

The NL has more quality top pitchers than the AL and made for a tight race. I feel Rangel has the best overall numbers although Bergman had a better ERA. 3-5 could be in any order based on their close numbers.

    AL CY Young
    1. Downs 1.18 WHIP
    2. Thompson 1.07 WHIP
    3. Martinez .68 WHIP *19 Sv*
    4. Rubio 1.31 WHIP

Thompson must have been unlucky when you look at his record and then at the important numbers- ERA, WHIP and K/BB ratio. He'd be my pick if his record was just slightly better. You could make a very good case for Martinez with those impressive numbers, and I seriously considered him but I tend to favor starters. Still hard to ignore.

You made less in the WS because my team did not have as good a regular season record as the Mets did. Obviously, my team was better than the record shows. I added the big bat of Coquillette midway through the season which made a big difference. Well it is now a 3 game series. Scott has been pulled from the rotation and Callier will pitch if their is a game 7. The Dodger bats were ferocious in two games, but got tamed in the other two. Hopfully I can tame them twice more.

Looking at next season, my future will be determined by my AGING players. The heart of my lineup is aging... Perez, Ramirez, Williams. I need some more years out of them until my young prospects are ready.

    Hey Cubbies,
I am interested in Maztine(catcher), with Cancel starting you can afford to move him. I have a lot of players you can probably use.
I see that you need a 2B and I have Newhan. He has 476BA with around 300HR and Gap and 474 Speed with a cheap contract.
I also have Ripken(3B) and Lesher(of), T.Davis(c) available. Also look at my AAA and A leagues. I have put some players at A because I ran out of room at AAA. IMO I have the deepest farm system and probably the best, only time will tell. If you are interested try to package something. But as you can see, I have my other top 10 prospects already penciled in as starters soon.

RBI is determined by where you are in the line up and how good rest of your team is though. So I'd vote Perez for MVP since he has higher OPS, which IMO is a better indication of how good an hitter is.

Well, it was a great series. The Royals were able to stretch the mighty Dodgers to 7 games before losing a close one giving the Dodgers their first title. The Dodgers should cherish it as the middle of their lineup decided to retire. The Royals avoided losing any players to retirement and only one starter was allowed to leave for free agency, but his spot is already filled. I expect another battle from the Whitesox next season in the AL West as the Royals attempt to win their 6th consecutive division title.

I finished my year in a bitter sweet way. Finally won my first series, by the way, the ROYALS gave me a great run 'til the end. And losing Ramirez(back-to-back MVPs) and Perez makes my have a big decision on next years direction. Retool or Rebuild?
I do see another division title with my staff coming back and because my division is a little weak right now. But any further isnt possible.

Roger Clemens is going to seriously disrupt the balance of power in whatever division he lands. Here's hoping he heads to the AL!

There's a major problem when you can count the number of players in a team's MLB/AAA/AA roster on your fingers and still have digits left over. Exhibit A: The Cardinals.
