Here's a new thread to start the season. I only lost one player to retirement (SP Williams), so the Red Sox are looking to keep using the bats to win a few games. Hopefully the pitching will come into its own as well. |

I didn't lose anyone to retirement but I did "Lose" a few really solid players in that trade to the M's to secure a decent future for my team. Pavlas gives my staff a good anchor and I should have a pretty solid team overall. Good luck to all!

On a side note, all 7 teams I control right now are in first place with the exception of my J2 Astros who are one game out of 1st.
I figured I'd post that before I played a game this season in O2 :)

Sheesh. This league is dying.
I want to discuss our new league. We can find a way to keep much of our league together. From what I gather, there are six of us.
NL East: Dev NL West: Josie, Stick AL East: Eustacio AL West: Blue Hen, Scott
I don't know about the O's or Mets. Great One and Bean Dip are done, and Eric, Beastie, and TB are going with other teams. Three teams are unowned.
If you're one of the six and don't want to stay, say so. If you're not and do want to stay, say so as well. Also, let's talk about what kind of league you'd like.
So talk...

I think I'm going to stay after the switch, but I'm not sure yet. I most likely will keep this team and my S2 Dodgers, and also join a new draft league. Hopefully we can keep some of the managers from this league, which is probably one of the best in the game.

I know this league is dying but the draft was pathetic. I cannot believe the players I got. Maybe 8 teams set their draft but a couple who did make it a no-brainer as to why there are a few power house teams in O2 and a bunch of non-contenders. No disrespect to the power houses who are leaving GSB and didn't set their draft. (Indians, Braves, ?? unsure if I really missed anyone)
If it wasn't for being in the same league and a pennant race with Blue Hen I wouldn't even log into this team. BH, I sure wish there was a way for you to bring your team into the merger that P2, M2, and R2 are doing. I know there will be a vacancy come time to pay up.
My team is due for a let-down and the Cards look like the team to do it. Tomorrow night you should make your move into first but it will only last until Friday when I take 3 of 4 from you.
Hopefully GSB gives it another season before going pay site. With another draft like that maybe I will just keep this team.
;)

I don't know what a bane is, but I swept the Orioles to finish the season taking 7 of 8 from them. I can find some satisfaction in that.
I, too, am pretty disappointed in the draft. It's kind of funny how Great One won't give me Tommy Phelps, but by not ranking his draft allowed me to get 3 or 4 players who are almost as good.
I think since there are so few teams staying together, we probably can work out a way into a league with some of you who are leaving. Is TB's team the only one in the merger? TB, can you find out about room for 7 more teams in the merger? I'd like to get in a competitive league, but I'd also like to stay with the O2 folk.
And as for this year, it's as good as clinched for me...

This was actually the first year in O2 that I've ever drafted more than 4 good players. This league has always been the only one I'm in that EVERY owner ranked their draft but since I know a lot of people are bailing I can see why they didn't. In fact, I thank them since I'll be paying for this team and I needed the prospects.
PS: It's not everyday I get a 12 star prospect in the 2nd round..heh

Yeah, only Scott does that.
OK, let me clarify. I am happy I got good prospects, and I am sure I will need them when I face real competition. I just don't feel a sense of accomplishment in getting them.
Keith Glauber is out for the year. He should be back and ready to start next season. I am happy to announce that former Northern League castoffs Jake Robbins and Bronswell Patrick have made a smooth transition to Major League life, even though Patrick still has yet to pitch (he may get a spot start late in the season if we clinch early). It's kind of funny seeing two guys who are each five years older than Harris and Glauber making their Major League debuts, since Harris and Glauber have been in the Bigs for five years. How spoiled we can become.
Well, I just want to wish everybody (except TB) luck in the second half of the season.

I think this is an example of what will be the downfall of GSB in the future. You simply can't make a bad team very good very quickly. Even a team like TB's, which had a core of very good prospects, which he traded for maximum immediate value, can't become "elite" in just a year. Who's going to keep paying for that?
Me, but a newbie?

Don't judge too quickly. I gave up a couple good prospects but only a few of them were prospects worthy of being on a good team. Ibarra(last season), King and Molina(two of last years draft picks). I got a lot more talent in return. Even if I knew this game wasn't going to a pay site and kept this team I would have done it pretty close to the same. I still have plenty of youth on my MLB team and plenty of prospects in my system. What I gave up was no mortgage on this teams future. They weren't in this teams future.
I was being kinda humble too. The season isn't over yet and my guys have hit a little slump. I don't think I could ever make it past the mighty Indians but winning this division still isn't out of reach.
BTW, I have two divisions that just started another season so I think we might just get another one in after this one.

Blue Hen,
Chances are pretty slim that you are going to split with the Sox while I sweep the Royals to force a one game play-off, but this season hasn't been the cake-walk that you have enjoyed for many seasons.
With 4 games left to play I have the 3rd best record in the league. I am not sure if that qualifies for "elite" or what that even means, but I think it proves that you can make a bad team good quickly.
We will get another season in before it goes to a pay site so we always have next season to spoil your goal.
=)

Your replies are almost amusing. I notice that you didn't talk your usual smack this season. Neither is Blue Hen, Eric or myself but other than BM and Josie saying goodbye I have yet to see another person from O2 post in over a month. Several didn't rate their draft and several more just hadn't signed on in so long they lost their teams.
I envisioned many seasons of laughs and good times playing against you Blue Hen. Especially after I saw that I was placed in the same division. Again, I don't know if it's because the league is dead/dying or if I somehow pissed in your corn flakes.
I will stick(no pun intended) with this team until it converts to a pay site and run every year like I would if I was keeping the team. Blue Hen might be in denial, but I will win the AL West this year.

Nah, it's kind of like The Rock. He can't say "It doesn't matter what you think!" unless someone says "I think..."
So keep talking. But realize that you have no chance. Incidentally, I have swept Bean Dip in a four game series before, just not in a postseason series. That took me five games.
I am sick of having 480 guys in the minors. Even though I would like to stockpile them, the time has come. I am calling up three of them. Huff, 484, will play third base. Hoiles, 482, will take over at Designated Hitter, and Myers, 481, will get a spot in the outfield. Cody Ransom, 475, will stay in the minors for now.
I have a bevy of players to trade. I sent out a clearance sale note, but a whole bunch of other players, including starting pitchers, can certainly be had.
