League 4 is so easy!

Once again, we're all alone on a stud...

0/0 hometowner
Jack Wantland 7-0 2.3 48 Fair C
Terre-Haute 19 Fair - Poor + Poor - Fair + Fair +
14.7 8.8 0.6 0.9 1.8 1.7
Can't wait to sign this guy up. The guys we lose are 6'5, 6'4, and 6'1.

4/4 on 6'5 GEFGGE OOC
2/2 on 5'11 PGEFFG OOC (PG of the future)
4/4 on 6'4 EEGFGF OOC (wow)

Losing the short guys means we can go after other short guys, and therefore wind up with 4/4 ties on those two guys, instead of similar tall guys having 8/8 ties. I think it's very realistic to get Wantland, the 2/2, and one of the 4/4's. That would be a very good class, in my opinion.

Not horrible for me:

0/0
conf 4 guy Hakim Garren
6'5 SG Fair Scout 3.4 62
F+ F+ F+ F- F+
19.6 4.5 1.6 2.0 1.2 .5

5/5 on Mr. Overrated himself, Luke Olsen, I'll probably drop him to max some over looked guys I had an RP on

3/3 on 6'9 F E E E F F

2/2 on hometowner Quintin Roehrig
6'1 PG Good Scout
F+ F+ E+ P- G+
9.9 1.5 5.1 2.2 1.8 .1

aside from that, I've got a lead on a 6'5 fair scout with 9.3 5.3 2.5 1.1 .7 .2

and a 6'8 poor scout 8.8 6.2 1.8 1.4 1.5

Not too bad recruiting so far, on my maxs i got

Stewart Funk 7'3" Good 5/6
PEFEF 6.2 9.6 2.0 .6 2.3 2.4

Cole Goff 6'8" EXE 1/1
GFGGP 19.3 6.5 1.3 1.2 1.3 .6

Ollie Lyvers 6'7" EXE 1/1
EPFGG 18.6 7.2 .8 .4 1.8 .5

Bruce Dodson 6'4" Good 1/1
GGEFE 13.3 3.4 2.6 1.5 1.2 .3

Dodson is the only OOC Guy.

Seing as though there are 3 guys who have been on the top recruits list from Conf 10 and the only Guy I'm after is Funk, the other two are similar to Lyvers and Goff, I think I have a good chance hoping that they back off of these guys and go for a PG or someone else. I would be happy getting just one of these preferably Funk since my tallest right now is 6'9" and he graduates... Anymore than one, and I'm set. I also have a few backups who im actually leading on and all I did was Scholarship and 3 points... I might see what else I can find in my Conf...

Eh, I'm not really happy with mine. Due to a little switching after week 1, I only have 2 true maxes, both in-conference.

Ty Goben 6'7" Exc 4/5
FGGEG 17.2 5.5 1.3 1.7 0.9 0.4

Tarek Churchill 6'9" Exc 3/3
FGFEF 15.7 10.2 1.6 1.5 1.2 1.4

I also have 58 RPE on an OOC guy:

Don McGuire 6'5" Good 0/0
GFGFE 22.4 2.7 1.5 1.8 2.2 0.2

Unfortunately, another OOC guy I was pursuing has what appears to be 2 people maxing him, and after starting a week late on him (after not seeing him on the top 75 list), I'm 17 RPE behind.

4/4 on Walser
1/1 on hometowner 6' 6 Richie Sells EFFEFE
0/0 on OOC (14) Coby Cheatham 6'8 FEFGFE

Gave up on Messer.

My maxes are 1/1, 1/1, 1/1 and 0/0. So, I am very happy. Also, I have a ton of players that have low top RPE's with either good stats or ratings. This could be a much needed banner year of recruiting for Gainesville.

I don't think I was aggressive enough, as I ended up clear on 2 of my 3 maxes and also clear on 1 of my non-maxes. Judge for yourself...

Wiley Van Meter 6-3 3.7 61 Good PG
Frankfort 18 Good + Good + Fair + Poor + Fair +
19.9 1.9 1.8 1.2 4.2 0.1

TOs are insanely high, but I wouldn't play him at PG anyway. Looks like a good SG/SF type though.

Edrick Geralds 6-8 3.4 59 Exc SF
Flint 18 Fair + Good - Good + Good - Fair +
13.7 5.3 2.8 1.3 1.1 1.1

Looks like a +4 to me, and I think he can probably play any of the frontcourt positions well enough. I'll take these types of players all day.

Otis Mainframe 6-9 3.6 69 Good PF
Paducah 18 None + Fair + Fair + Fair + Fair -
1.2 6.8 3.2 1.5 1.4 1.2

Backup insurance, and would not be allowed to shoot under any circumstances. Solid bC type and since we're graduating one it wouldn't be a loss.

Also 5/5 on Chad Garnett, who honestly doesn't look that much better than Geralds to me.

Chad Garnett 6-10 2.8 49 Poor C
Waterloo 18 Fair + Good + Fair + Exc + Good +
12.8 8.7 1.2 1.2 1.3 1.2

Rebounding is only significantly better stat, so I don't know why he had 5 more people maxing him. Not that I'm complaining. I'd probably drop him if we weren't doing so well everywhere else, so I'll stay on him.

I have a teams in LG 7 too and its been pretty good, I have just started to recover from 2 bad recruiting years, last year was my first losing record, i was 11-13 after starting 5-0 so i was pissed off. This year I started 1-0 I got 2 of my 4 maxes both 6-10+ centers... here is my starting line-up which figures to be a pretty good one if they all do their part...
Bye the way, I'm 92-76 with this team I have 3 Conf Regular Season titles 1 Conf Tourn title and 2 NTT appearances I've only ever won 1 game in the NTT though... I've had 6 players go onto the SimBA too, heres me squad.

PG 5-11 SR GFGGFF
SG 6-4 SR EGPFFF
SF 6-7 SO GGFGFF
PF 6-10 JR FGGFFF
C 6-11 FR FGGFPG

So far after 1 game the 2 big guys have 19 boards between them and the 2 scorers have 46 pts in a 79-59 win. I have a 6-10 FR C GFGFPF that I will play next year maybe but he's logging some good minutes now...

I don't need to be reminded of this!

j/k...It's good to look at a comparison between Gurupies. I suppose the only thing I have going for me is my SOS.

I was quite disappointed last night. We had a good chance to upset 21 PR Concord, being down by only 3 with 50 seconds left, but we couldn't pull it off. It also doesn't help that the #1 PR team appears on my schedule twice during the season.

Yeah that's Conference wins, I'm kinda limited in what I can do cause I dont have Excel I only have Works and Word. When I do the next one I'll see what I can add. But CW is Conference Wins and CL is Conference Losses and SS is Strength of Schedule.

Here's my assessment so far through this year... We've got a pretty good core of teams. 10 that are in the top 100 in the league. I've dropped 2 games straight and 3 of my last 4. I'm not very happy about that, I guess I have to figure out whats wrong. As gurupies we don't really have a power house team, J's squad is about as tough as we get and no offense against him, but he is gonna have trouble in his conference tourney with Scottsdale. San Jose topped em once but they look tough. Our power ranking as a whole is getting better and better each game but nothing too much, i'd be impressed to see it around 95-75 by seasons end. Now here's what seems to be keeping us out of the PR. Our schedule strength sucks. Mine is kept tough by having one of the oughest conferences and considering 4 of my 5 losses are all in-conf. But other than that I try to schedule teams who are doing great this year. I hope we can pick it up come Tourney Time, I have 2 very tough games left and one that shouldnt be too bad, but hopefully i get a 4-5 seed and i can get to the second round, but if i get 6 or worse, im screwed cause the top teams in my conf whoop my ass all the time. Good luck to all, any comments....?

Matt, I agree with you. I really have to believe my squad is doing some serious over-acheiving. Although I've gotten to the point where I expect to win every night, I've had a pretty soft schedule. The win over Scottsdale was big, but I think they too are over-achievers. I wouldn't be surprised to see me win the rest of the games, head into the tourney and lose in the first game when I finally play a good team. But, I'm starting 3 Freshmen now and hopefully that will be good for my team's future. I never expected they'd win this much this year.

If I can land Colby Ransdell in the recruiting wars, then I fully expect to have a really good team for a few years to come.

At closer looks, maybe we are all just in rebuilding years... I know I'm still trying to recover from the crap recruiting years the guy who left me this team had. I have great starters, 4 with Exe def. and ok shooters. 3 with good. but I'm not very deep which is what kills me, I can get a lead but when my starters go out, i lose it. I only have 1 guy who i will even considering filling a starting roll next year even if I get a Freshman class of all +1's... Besides that I return 2 Sophomores my PF and PG the PF will be moved to SF since he's only 6'5" I'm having a very dissappointing year from what i expected though.

I have a good team but I think I am one stud away from a contender. My shooting guard position has caused me problems all year. I don't have a good shooting team period. Good defense and rebounding but zilch shooting. Amazing how crappy a GOOD shooter can be. Also have turnover problems at PG but I expected that out of a frosh.

Signed up for a League 18 team and really lucked out. Got Houston in Conference 23. 16-8 last year and second ranked recruiting class. Talk about attributes? ROFLMAO! The starters are plus 23 and my bench, including N/A's is plus 15, including 3 poor's in all the right places. Amazing! Watch how I screw it up:)

My other team is looking good, Its league 7 I'm 3-1 my only loss is to another team that is 4-0 and i lost by 2. I got the featured game for Wednesday too cause I go against my 4-0 Division Foe Lansing. Its funny, for meet the players they put in my Sr Scorer 25.8 PPG and 4BDS My Soph future star 18.5 PPG 5Brds and then my 6th man WTF!?!?!?! 8pts 3BDS??? I have my PF who is awesome with 8PTS 9BRDS and 4ASST a game and my PG who is 6PTS 3BDS and 7Asst a game??? I just don't understand why they put that other guy in there.... But anyhow this team is solid... MY C is a freshman 6'11" i got a Jr PF who is 6'10' a Freshman off the bench who is 6'10" a Sophomore 6'7" who has good scoring good d and good reb.... I love this game.

UGHHHHHHHH, I hate this game.

My Youngstown team in Lg 1 lost in the elite 8 to a team that is not in the same class as us. They shot 25 more FT's and we basically gave them the game in OT. That makes losses by 1, 2, and 1 point the last 3 years in the NTT in lg 1. The only good news is that my team should be able to pick up their 20th win on Wednesday which would make 4 straight seasons of 20 wins.

Bad luck, beastiemiked. My lg 1 Wheatfarmers lost last night too, but they wouldn't have survived the next round anyway. I wasn't looking forward to having to go up against you -- Flagstaff is lucky they don't have to.

Long Beach (lg 4) is in a wild conference battle (31). 3-way tie with the 3 teams power ranked 52-60-61. We've been exploding against teams that play (I believe) up-tempo against us, scoring 97 and 100 in the last 2 games. Now have 3 players at "9" and I'm taking a chance and resting them all against a 2-11 team Wednesday night.

My Lg 4 team can shoot with anyone in the league. It's just too bad we can't stop anybody. This team is about as frustrating as it gets. No lead is safe with my team. I have actually squandered a few leads of 20 or more points. And it's not because my backups aren't any good. I am +16 coming off the bench. It's just that neither my starters nor my backups can play any defense. And if I have a bad night shooting, I get absolutely blown out by teams that probably aren't much better than mine. See Game 11 against Macon.

On a positive note, my recruiting is going great and I expect to bring in a few guys that can play some defense. I have 2 clear leads on PG maxes (no longer maxing them) and two 1/1 ties on my other maxes, one of which is a hometowner. I don't care about scoring anymore. My Lg 17 teams have proven to me that the only sure-fire way to win consistently is with very good-great defensive teams. It helps to have a couple E shooters thrown in there, too.

I really don't see my team getting back to the NTT for the fifth straight season. If the season were to end today, I'd be in. But, I still have to get thumped by Mobile on Friday and then I am going to get beat in the conference tourney by either Kissimmee, Macon or Mobile. That would put me at 5 losses and it's tough to get in with a 13-5 record.

Good luck everyone on the remainder of the season!

bh, I got asked to be in some sort of preseason tourney in Lg 4. Now, I realize that I usually kick the crap out of you every season in our annual matchup during the preseason. I don't want this trend to end. So, I can either reject the offer and play you in the preseason again. Or, we can sweeten the series and play each other during OOC games in the regular season.

It's just a matter of whether or not you are afraid of me hurting your record during the regular season...

Yeah my team has lost 6 straight, they suck I'm ticked off, it's my bench that's killing me, my starters are solid. I can get a lead or hang close until my backups filter in, and in that case they bring the whole team down.... Oh well i hope i can just get a winning record.

I asked for an experienced opinion. MORON

But seriously, how good of a job does the computer do in assigning you the best players. I've got a lead on 3 SG's. I have an idea as to who I think the best will be, but I obviously won't know exactly. Should I let the computer assign me the best one?

bmd will probably disagree with me, but I ALWAYS let the computer pick for me. Honestly, there is no concrete way of knowing what players are the best until you see the attributes.

My best example of this is my former SF in Lg 17, Morris Ashby. When I was recruiting him, he had decent ratings, and average stats (14 PPG, 6-7 RPG, and decent assist numbers). I had him listed (in my mind) as my #4 or 5 guy, but I had maxed him all the way for God knows what reason. He turned out E F E G G F, shot about 60% in HS, but just didn't get that many shots for some reason, had a stellar career for the Macon Monkey Love and was the #4 overall pick in the Lg 17 SimBA draft.

I never use PP's and never will.

Just to chime in (not really to add anything, seeing as this is only my 2nd season), I'm inclined to follow G Dogg's strategy of not assigning anything. Out of my 3 current freshman, the one I would have ranked 3rd best in the preseason has turned out to be my best so far (they were all recruited, no walk-ons). I don't think I have the skill yet to pick out who is better than who, so I'm of the opinion to just sit back and let the computer do it for me, at least for now.

+15, won 2 1/1 ties and had an outright. 1 great swingmen that can play anywhere from PG to PF, a 6-2 guy that has no hands whatsoever but plays great D and can shoot the lights out, and a big man that can board and D up. A very solid class.

Ugh. A whopping +2 class. I won none of my ties, and even managed to lose a guy I was ahead on by about 4 points. This means I lost on my top 4 recruits. End result: I did receive my 5th recruit, another recruit that I spent a spare 30 points on or so, plus a walk-on.

I doubt the walk-on (+1) will ever see the light of day (he's a horrible shooter). The other recruit (+1) will probably be a career backup. I'm hoping my other recruit (+0) can jump into a starting role. I was really surprised that he didn't have higher attributes. Check out the stat line of this 6-7 PF:

24.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 0.3 apg, 1.3 steals/game, 1.6 TO/game, and 1.0 blocks/game

Would you guess this was a guy who turned out to be a +0?

I really try not to put stock in +/-'s. The class, on paper was +9, but I think this is a class in the Raley/Durbin/Board mold. Though unranked with so-so +/-, that class earned two #2 NTT seeds. For the third year in a row, I got a tall, unranked class in that same mold.

I did get the aforementioned Otto Walser, who's a stud any way you look at it. I love his E ath, but I just wish he was a little taller than 6'5.

My other two guys both surprised me... 7 footers Britt Stith and Jack Wantland. Both have good stats and good attributes, and both will sit on what is probably the tallest bench in SSB history (6'8, 6'9, 6'10, 7'0, 7'0).

Toral, what happened? you're not on my preseason schedule!

My class was rated #8 somewhere, but just a +7 as a whole. I didn't get two guys I was hoping for, Colby Ransdell (a stud whom I was tied with 5 others for - who wound up in Honolulu) and Clarence Davis (the guard I really wanted and needed, but I was trailing by 1 RP to another school - Memphis). I wound up with 3 pretty good guys, but none can shoot and now I'm kinda weak in the guard positions, with only two good players (and I have a feeling Seaman overacheived in winning National Freshman of the Year honors). My team still has no defense and now we're not such good shooters. But as a whole my team should be better. We'll see!

My first recruiting class in SSB didn't turn out to be as bad as I thought it would. Overall the class is a +6, and all of the recruits are better than the seniors who left. Team defense and shooting will be greatly improved this year and all three recruits will start as freshman. They will join two soph's in the starting lineup making this team one of the youngest in SSB. Highly recruited 7'1" center Jamond Terry is the most talented of the class and turned out to be a +3. I enjoyed my first full season in SSB and look forward to competing with the rest of you in league 4 for many seasons to come.

After a 2 season hiatus, I'm back in league 4, and against all odds, I was given back my South Bend team.

My 6 seasons with South Bend: 17-7, 19-5, 20-4, 21-3, 19-5, 21-3

The 2 seasons since my departure: 14-10, 13-11

I'm hoping to be able to take this team back to being a perennial NTT team. Granted, they aren't as talented as when I left(the 3 tallest and most talented players were recruited by me and are this year's seniors), but they're only missing a couple key components that have been a staple of my teams in the past. Nothing a couple years of recruiting won't fix.

I am very fortunate that whoever had the team the past couple seasons got 2 solid young point guards, who should be able to handle the position between them for the next 3 years, letting me focus my recruiting elsewhere.

I need my upperclassmen E shooters to step up and shoot the lights out and for somebody to get me some production from the swingman positions.

If all goes well, I think I can make it back to the NTT.

And to keep with the theme of this thread, the computer(or whoever recruited for this team) got a +5 Freshman class, with 2 players at 5-11, and a 6-5 guy. That's just about the worst class I've seen, as the 6-5 guy would be the only person in my 10 man rotation on a normal team.

Anyway, good luck to all gurupies this coming season, and I hope to see some of you in the NTT(along with myself) :)

Wow, that's a disgrace ;)

Alright, I'll look for you in there.

Remember Peter Sears from my last recruiting class before I left? He's going to have to have an epic year of Cole-like proportions. Of courwse, he's a +6 and Cole was a +1, but that stuff doesn't seem to matter :)

My conference looks tough. Dearborn won 20, and Nashville and Green Bay are still 16-17 win teams. Also play a 19 win team OOC. Could be a struggle to get to the NTT this year. Hoping for the best though, I've done better with worse :)

That's the plan :)

Notice my SG took 18 shots.....in 23 minutes??

Afraid to pass the ball, but since the only guy outside of him that can remotely shoot is Peter Sears, I'm happy with it.

Those aforementioned 2 young PG's who looked good combined for 10 assits and 0 TO's. I like.

Have they raised blocked shots? My puny team swatted no less than 10 shots. My 6-3 E def, E ath SF blocked 3, got 2 steals, and held the opposing SF to 3-15. Wow.

And all of this...doesn't matter one bit. Because the team I played was 2-22 last year! Playing a 19-5 Hialeah team that was a top tier team when I was around and is still up there. Hopefully I can keep it close.

I like what I've seen from my team so far though...they have enough pieces to challenge for the conference title.

We'll see how it goes.

By the way, congrats on your thorough dismantling of Tulsa, who from the looks of it, are still a premier team. A +16 reb margin(7 for your PG, 7 in 14 minutes for your backup PF, 7 in 15 minutes for your backup center)? 9 assists for your PG? Balanced shooting too. That's scary, indeed.

Good luck this year.

Yeah, my PG is outstanding. As a Soph. last season, he beat out my incumbent PG who was a Sr. Although he didn't average (over the course of the season) the 9 apg/.8 TO that he averaged during the preseason, I really liked his 5.5/.8 averages. I can't wait to see what he does this season. 7 reb's are great...I wonder how many he'd get if I got his rebounding up from a POOR!

Your team still looks Chris-esque, 2 superstars and great defense. I wouldn't be surprised at all if you win your conference as I think Dearborn is overrated and the other teams in that conference have coaches in their 2nd or 3rd seasons (I think). South Bend should be dominating 15 again in no time. Are you going to change the name back to the Lakers?

Well, I will probably lose tonight against Topeka, who is a team that has catapulted themselves up to the elite of Lg 4 in the last few seasons. I am going to give a couple of my Fr. a chance to shine tonight. Priddy will be starting at SG and Wayne Henson is going to start at PF. I am thinking of putting Edens on shoot less for the game...I already know what he can do.

Good luck!

Might be time to believe the hype in South Bend. A 24 point win over a computer coached team doesn't foretell much, but a 19 point win over a team that has averaged over 18 wins per season over the last 10 years bodes well for this season.

My center pulled down 14 rebounds.

My 2 top scorers combined for 50, as my Junior SG shot 10-12.

2 PG's combined for 9 assists and 1 TO, making in 19 and 1 between the 2 for these first 2 games.

Backup PG has 12 assists and 0 TO's.

E def, E ath SF has held opposing SF's to 5-24 shooting.

Shooting lines for Sears and Crain over 2 games:

Peter Sears - 23-38, 55 points, 66 minutes played
Lamont Crain - 20-30, 42 points, 46 minutes played

I think Crain's going to get a boost to 27-28 MPG, see if he can handle it. Sears hasn't been adversely affected by his heavy workload, in fact playing his best down the stretch tonight, so I'm going to keep his minutes about the same.

If I can get both my point guards to play 20 MPG, I'd be thrilled, it's tough to choose between them, as the Frosh seems to have slightly better hands and some extra height, but the Soph has better defense.

Of course, 2 games, especially exhibition games, don't really tell all, but my team's performance in these 2 games would have any coach optimistic about the upcoming year. I'm still a little concerned that my teams don't get any steals. My South Bend teams of the past would typically average somewhere around 10 steals per game, while this team has been getting 3. We'll see how that goes.

Congrats to all the Gurupie winners tonight, and good luck getting your team in shape for the regular season.
