Subject: Lg 4 Season?!?!?

  Posted by: MattG - [37722615] Thu, Apr 18, 2002, 15:44

I'm going through the recruits, there really doesn't seem to be a whole lot that are worth too much trouble, I'm through about half, flagging the guys who are decent and I've gone through a few conf. without flagging anyone, including my own. Of course I'll go back through my own and see if I can find some role player that I can pickup, but besides that it looks like and OOC year for me... Am I the only one like this???

Actually, I've been thinking the exact same thing. I've gone through a few conferences (including my own) and have found absolutely no one that jumps out at me. I guess this is just an off year for high schoolers...

I found one guy who is a +7 but no one else about like +4 who is decent, lots of 6'2" - 6'7" guys but no real tall guys or any that look PG worthy, which is what I need. I guess after last years great class, they knocked it down a little.

It's only been 2 games, guys. I haven't even looked outside my region yet. And I probably won't until after game 5. Remember, one bad or average game for these recruits and their stats will look like crap right now. Give them a few more games and I'm sure you'll see plenty of recruits that will have you salivating.

I never tend to go after the "lookers"(like the +7 you mentioned) anyway, as they attract too much attention, and as such, I've found plenty of players worth going after. Unfortunately, the only semi-decent player in my hometown is a PG, and I'm stocked there.

I haven't been paying attention to stats yet (obviously two games is not much to go on). I was more referring to their attributes. And of course I'm not declaring a state of emergency or anything, but compared to past seasons, I haven't found as many promising candidates. Of course, I don't plan on performing any recruiting actions until after next Wednesday (except for scheduling scrimmages), but I'll usually at least start looking around a little early. So hopefully some guys can surprise me.

J that was one heck of a game we just playing in preseason, two OT's and 3 Buzzer beaters to win.... I can't believe I blew a 15 point lead. My Frosh are playing how they should though, 2 guys with 20 points.

Just a quick recruiting question from a newbie... (League 12)

I know it says picking in your conference helps in signing a recruit, but if you go OOC, does it matter how close the other region is to your region?

For Example- Im in Region 3- if a guy Im after is in Region 4, is he more likely to sign with me than a guy from Region 31? Just wondering.

Thanks.

yeah, I enjoyed that 15-0 run after halftime :)

The game didn't do much in helping me figure out my starting 5. I had a 6'9" guy as my PG, and he did pretty good, 8 assists, 3 TOs, 1 block. But, ideally, a 6'9" guy shouldn't be a PG! Seaman was my PG last year and had a great year, I'm just worried about TO's & defense. Seaman & Oschsner (6'9" guy) are my good hands guy, but Seaman doesn't believe in defense. I may still toy around with my squad this year, and I really need to land a guard or two wit this next recruiting class!!!!

Chris, lets trade! Too bad we cant force guys to transfer :)

yeah, I'd take Oschner off your hands in a second :)

kev, no, which conference it is has no effet, as long as it is OOC.

My team finished the exhibition season by winning all 3 games by an average margin of 22 points, winning all 3 by at least 19. I'm pumped, lets get this season started :)

This class is horrible, I found 4 guys who have +7 or better, only one has a +8 which I havent seen yet. I went through last week and Flagged all the recruits with good attributes that I would like. I found 34 Guys, then today I went through those guys and found 12 that have good Attributes and decent stats from hs, only one was from my conf so it looks like a lot of OOC bids for me... Hopefully I can find a few sleepers, anyone else have any insite?

I've gone through most of the regions-not all. Only thing I've noticed for sure is there are a lot less studs-like you said MattG. Looks like a good time to go for need.

Can't wait for the w/3-w/12's to come out!

I tend to only recruit role players(in the +3-4 range), so I don't see any problem with this year's crop. Only problem being, with less studs out there, there may be more people going after my role players.

OK, this one works in XL97 and XL2000. If you are using XL2000, start it and go to a really long dinner and a movie.

It also allows to you just update Statistics after loading and saving Recruits and Attributes (good call J).

Did you do the stuff on the SETUP page?

In cell B3, you need to paste the "Click here to RECRUIT" link's URL that is on the "Coach My Team" page.

If so, then, did you first off, run the "Retrieve Recruits, Attributes and Statistics" routine? You need to do this atleast once. It pulls all the players. The next time you want to update, then you will only need to run "Update Statistics Only".

Let me know.

I screwed up the first few times. I pasted it in cell A3, where you have the RECRUITING URL highlighted in yellow. I just pasted in cell B3 and it downloaded everything. Now, the only problem is that I isn't listing the attributes. It only retrieved the statistics. And, I know for sure I clicked on the right button.

Thanks in advance and thanks for doing this RSF. For the 20 seconds I had everything perfect, it was awesome.

You're right Excel 2000 does take forever. It downloaded the regions in about 5 minutes and I was thinking that was fast. Then it starts, Player 1 of 768, Player 2 of 768, etc., etc. . .

I left the house, came back an hour later and it was on Player 483 of 768. It finally finished about 30 minutes after that.

Thank you again RSF! This will be very, very helpful.

RSF, if he's EXC, I tend to ignore 5 games worth of stats as insignificant.

I find players like that tend to gravitate towards the stats you'd expect of them as the season progresses.

There are different schools of thought on stats/ratings vs scout. I've been burned too many times by high stats, low rated, poor scouts before, but others like KM and bmd have had huge success with them.

We all have our personal biases, so it's tough to say one way is "right", but that's the way I look at it.

No, it's pretty easy. My way is right. :)

Truth be told, I look almost exclusively at stats. Of course, if I have a guy in my region with great atts and average stats, I'll give him a strong look, but on the whole, the first and most important factor for a recruit for me is stats.

The caveat to this is that you can't bank on the guys with the great stats and poor atts being great. Which is why, if you recruit the way I do, you need to get as many leads as possible to ensure that you get the best recruits possible (that aren't crappy). Also, if you do this, it's best not to give priority points because you are banking on the atts changing and there is no way to know which ones are going to change.

Like G Dogg, I seem to tend to go with stats more than attributes, but along with that I also take into heavy consideration performances in the 2 in-conference scrimmages I schedule before recruits are due, especially for a stat like FG%, which is somewhat difficult to predict from anywhere else.

Seaman, So. - 31.2 PPG, 2.2 APG, 1.8 TO, 1.2 SPG, 53.3 Sh%
Jesse, Jr. - 10.2 PPG, 1.5 APG, 2.5 TO, 1.5 SPG
Ochsner, Fr - 2.0 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 3.8 APG, 0.5 TO, 1.2 SPG, 18.2% shooting :)
Beatty - Fr - 5.0 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 3.0 APG, 1.2 TO, 6 Blocks
Bailey - So - 13.5 PPG, 9.8 RPG, 1.5 TO, 3 blocks.

I know its early, but I like stats! My Forwards have better A to TO ratio than my guards!!! Too bad Ochsner is 6'9" I'd really like him at PG.

2-2 so far on the year, with 2 straight wins. Bailey just came off an 18 pt, 18 board performance. Seaman has 78 points in the last 2 games. Bring on the Schlomoes!!!!

The Mighty Roosters are struggling at 2-2. More importantly, we're getting KILLED on the glass. So I messed with the lineup a bit, but who knows what will happen. We got 46 boards in an exhibition game, but were pounded twice in a row in the last two games.

I'm on Poole too, and from the look of things, it's going to be a 13 or 14 way tie. Two of my maxes are pretty "safe" I'd like to think, although I wish they had a little more talent.

I might just give that Prewitt guy a point, just for his name. Hell, if Baloo Henn can be all conference...

Just wondering if anyone off hand can recall the most points they have scored in a half?

My team (ranked 17th) played the 246th ranked team, and I was up 78-34 at half.

I can't remember seeing any more than that kev.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I've held a team to 9 in a half and 21 in a game...good times :)
