Well guys, I have a horse with a chance in a stake this week. (A "stake", I am given to understand, is a special race with a larger-than-usual purse, for superior runners. My horses are generally unfamilar with these events ;) )

Nail Endangering goes off at 3/1 in a 8.5 turf stake for 3-year-old fillies in Victoria 5313. Granted, even at 3/1 she's only the third favourite in a 3-horse field, but where there's life there's hope. She has deteriorated in form in your last two stake tries but I hope ther weren't a true measure of her talent, for some reason I couldn't really explain....

She ran a decent race and pulled down $15K. Can't be too upset about that.

My best 3 year old filly, Ms. Secretive, had her winning streak snapped after 6 consecutive wins -- she finished 2nd in a 10K starter this week (10f). I think that I may see what she can do in an open allowance race. Not counting on much, but now that the win streak is broken, I should probably see how good of a runner she actually is.

Otherwise, not a lot of news from my barns. Compared to recent weeks, I actually did OK, I think. Light Jupiter and Tow's Terms are still struggling. Jericho Velvet is back from injury and pulled my fastest ever 7-7.5f on turf run (you can tell I'm stretching it when I am excited about breaking a new personal speed best for a specific surface/distance combo!). Only good for a 3rd, however.

DDay also snuck over the 100 barrier and got me an A3n win. Given the new GSR bonuses for stakes wins, I may start to try to push some of my marginal horses into weaker Stakes fields if I can find them.

All in all, this "race your horses less" philosophy hasn't done my nags any good, I don't think.

New 2 year old Pleasant Gulch continued to great madman tradition of royal-bred flops. Gulch x Pleasant Colony x Nijinsky II . . . 55.8spd over 6f on dirt. Maybe he'll perk up on turf. Yeah, and cows might fly over the moon.

I'm still waiting to see what changes Mike has in store. He's been teasing us a lot lately. Getting frustrating waiting. I'd rather not be told that stuff is imminent and then have to wait . . .

Madman, thanx for the encouragement re Nail. Also, not to recover old ground...well, yes to do so....

I don't believe I ever suggested running all horses less was a good idea. I said that some horses would benefit from running less, and further, that it was perfectly possible than the damage of running more could only show up in some horses, after (and you seemed to disagree with this) they had run on an every-two-week regimen for some time, successfully.

BTW, I was out-of-town last week, and at a computer without a SSS, and needed to breed a cheap 3-year-old. So I just straight ripped off one of your combos, Stark Secret x Mr Howard x Touching Wood (although I don't think Touching Wood's stamina influence is really necessary in a 3-year-old cheapie, but anyway...) Since it was a straight rip-off, I intended to name the horse Originality. But I mistyped apparently, and the horse came thorugh as Originiality. No, I wasn't under the influence at the time.... I hate having a horse with an illiterate name...maybe I should run it at a Claim Bandit track....

Up to 2576 BPs with "larot", before the update. Need to use 750 in next 3 weeks to avoid losing them. Anybody have any ideas?

BTW, I was nipped at the wire in GSR Division 2 last week (too many damn 2-year-olds who don't run often enough). 2 winners in 9 tries this week -- same sort of thing as always -- cheap auction pickup Make Me A Miracle won a $15K MC, and my favourite horse, the beloved 18-point homebred , lost in her first claimer and then reacquired by me as soon as she was put in a claimer by the new owner, Ministry of Chaos won a $2KN1n (!) event in Tennessee. Hope she wasn't claimed -- then I'd just have to find a way to get her back :) She's going to win a long-distance stake some day :)
