TH finally loses, and in grand style. We blew several huge leads, and gave up 19 boards to wunderkind Brock Soeder, who Ames got out of conference from conference 1. Talk about pulling a recruit out of your ass. But is a stud, so I'll just have to stick it to him.

We lost by 10 points, but only because they scored the last 8 when we started fouling. The Todd MacCullough Army will return!

Big win for the Reno Spartans last night. I was down as many as 19 points, came back and took the lead with 1 minute to go. My opponants power ranking was 26 before the game, I believe that is my biggest upset.

I changed my starting lineup around and a sophmore SG (starting his 2nd game) scored 30 in 28 minutes on 13 for 28 shooting. Talk about a gunner.

I lost, too. At least it was to legendary Lg 4 Coach Woop and his Macon Aggies. We were down 3 with 15 seconds to go and we got the ball to the guy I wanted to have it, Rayshard Edens. On Monday night against Tampa, in the exact same scenario, Edens got fouled shooting a 3 with 5 seconds to go and nailed them all to send it to OT, where we proceeded to win the game.

However, Rayshard missed this time, but was not fouled on the play and Macon grabbed the rebound to end the game. My team really has gone to hell. We can't shoot, rebound or defend anymore. That makes it pretty tough to win.

I havent had a ton of time to do anything but recruit, but my team is underperforming. Getting to 12-12, which I predicted, is gonna be tough.

But Janson Knapp is a stud. I havent checked out many other freshman in lg 4, but he has to be one of the best.

We will be playing in our 6th featured game in the last 7 games on Friday. We were completing dominating our opponents earlier this year but the last 2 games we've had slight scares against ok teams. With 114 stls and only 73 TO's I guess I can't complain too much about how we've been playing.

We upped our record to 5-6, which is better than I expected us to be with such a young team. My all-freshman front court hasn't caused many problems. In fact, I don't have the numbers, but I'd be willing to bad over the past 5 games or so, my freshman SG Benoit Danahy is shooting over 60%.

Sophomore SF Woodrow Warren couldn't keep up his torrid scoring pace from the first week (above 27 ppg), but part of that can be attributed to Danahy stepping into his own after getting off to a somewhat rough start.

If the backups on this team weren't so weak, we'd likely be doing even better. Although I won't have room to complain about that much longer. After this season, the team becomes completely "mine" (that is, the seniors on the team will have been personally recruited by me, since it will be my 5th season).

LWL (Life without Lawhorn) began last night for Baton Rouge, and as expected the team that is the most dependednt on a single player got worked. We struggled to get 10 pts each quarter, in fact we didnt for 2 quarters, finally settling on 44 pts, against a pretty crappy team.

Luckily Lawhorn is a quick healer and went from a 4 to an 8 and should be back for next game. I should still make my ten wins, and Lawhorn should still lead the league in Pts/Game.

While we're pimpin our players, I'd like to prop my 6-11 Freshman C, Jesper Patterson, who is #10 in Rebounds and #16 in Blocked Shots in all the League 4 land. Now if he could just hit the broad side of a barn, he'd be real dangerous.

Well I jumped feet first into the Basketball sim after about two years of horse racing, and managed to draw all 4 teams into lg.23 I have been patiently waiting for Lg.4 to open up, and am pretty excited at the prospect of Coach Spree slimming down his team. He offered up Panama City I believe, and I have requested his team. Hopefully I can draw it, so I can join all of you in the chatter. Wish me luck.

My team sucks, I jsut hope to finsih 500 and get some more dept, I have 4 good players, but thats it everyone else is below a +1. If I get 2 of the 5 guys im actuively recruiting, I should be in decent shape for next year, just a matter of time. my Lg 7 team is dominating. Started the season 5-0 and is #11 PR I have 2 guys scoring 20 a game and 2 guys getting 7.5 + boards a game plus tons of depth, hopefully I can keep just blowing teams out.

The Titanium Screws just went balistic yesterday. They won 106-66, which is absolutely insane for this team (which, before this week was 2-10!).

I made some slight tweaks (made all my starters Sub-Out more, and switched my starting PG) but this was totally unexpected.

Woohoo! 4 wins down. Only 5 more to go!

Woohoo Again!

Somehow my team was seeded 5th in the conference tourney. Me (at 4-11) beat the #4 seed (at 7-8), whom I had lost to just 5 weeks earlier (77-92), by a score of 89-86. Now I face the #1 seed (Hialeah Panacea, the #21 overall team). I have lost to them twice (week 6, 72-99) and (week 15, 94-100). My team is playing well right now. Well enough that I actually think I have a chance in this game. We'll see!

How'd everybody else do in the first game?

Another upset here! After stumbling through the last week of conference games, Camden (5-10) entered as the #7 seed in the tourney and faced #2 Morgantown (12-3, with a #34 power ranking). We had previously lost to them 83-65 and 99-76, so I wasn't giving my team much a chance. But my center hit his first three of the season (in only his 5th attempt) at the buzzer at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime, where we only allowed them 2 points to "easily" pull out the win. I'm still not sure how we did it.

Camden will now continue it's unlikely run in the tourney by taking on #3 Montepelier (10-6, power ranking of 81). We are previous losers to this team by a score of 102-81.

Lost, again, to Minneapolis in the tourney. Have not beaten them in any of my four seasons. So it looks like the PTT again for me.

The good news is I have the makings of a great recruiting class even if I lose all ties. If I win one tie it would be incredible-two ties-highly unlikely I know-would be unbelievable.

Good luck to all!

Not suprisingly the Spyce lost to the #2 ranked Waterloo Cherokees (#35 Power Ranking)in C18 - it looks like it will be the DTT for us with a 6-9 regular season that flatters the Spyce who went 5-0 OOC against a bunch of patsies and was 1-9 IC with our only win against the #232 ranked team.

I learned alot in my first season especially in regards to recruiting (still learning) which will only go well with alot of luck (3 ties, only one clear lead and chasing 2).

BTW - is anyone planning on posting Lg17 recruiting spreadsheet?, i am XL2000 impaired :)

I was just thinking about my recruiting - i am involved in 3 max ties: 2/2, 2/2, 4/4 - assuming that the chance of winning is 33% for a 2/2 and 20% for a 4/4 i believe i have a 64.4% chance (29/45) of winning at least one of the ties, an 11.1% chance (5/45) of winning at least two, and 2.2% chance (1/45) of winning all three.

The Long Beach Canyons go up against the Roswell Bipeds for the Conf. 31 tourney title -- they've had out number in big games for the last few years though. I can't think of any settings to try. Their guards shoot well and they have two 7-foot-plus monsters in the frontcourt.

Ok I figured out why I lost the last two games, mny team is fouling un controllably, thats the only reason we lost two games, here is the stats.
I'm in column 1

Game 1
FG 35/81 VS 30/71
3pt 7/18 VS 4/10
FT 11/15 VS 31/34
PF 26 VS 18
Pts 88 VS 95

Game 2
FG 40/79 VS 40/67
3pt 5/12 VS 3/4
FT 9/15 VS 20/23
PF 20 VS 12
Pts 94 VS 103

Granted my shooting percentages arent the best but I am making more FG's overall and More 3pts. The only problem is I'm fouling way too much, is there anything to practice in order to stop this. Will slowing down the tempo or changing my defense help at all???

Here would be the things I think would cut down on fouling:

Playing a defense closer to zone (e.g. switch from man to normal or from normal to zone). That team had a lights out shooting performance against you in Game 2, so maybe you're not playing the best defense for your team.

Practicing defense (sorry for stating the obvious) or, what I think would be even better, practicing speed/agility.

Those are just my opinions. Take them for what they're worth (which is not much, I'm sure).

WEll after going over the play by plays i noticed a lot of my fouls were in transition, the ball coming down the court. I have since Switched from Man to Zone, and I Slowed the tempo down from fast to normal, hopefully not running the court so fast will cut down on stupid fouls.

As far as practice, I have been practicing defense, thing is I have 2 starters who are Exe def two good and 1 fair and as far as reserves i have 2 good 2 fair and 1 poor, so i dont think its that. I have since switched to practicing foul shooting considering i missed 4 and 6 in each game and even though in the score it would not have made a difference, in the game it would have i would have been up by 2 - 3 at the end instead of down 3 and having to foul. So we will see what happens, I don't play a tough opponent tonight but come next week I have a few tough games.. Thanks for the input.

After struggling to a 6-12 record, Carson City is changing things up, going with a fast paced, run the floor tempo. The team can play great defense, but we are losing any games that are tight down the stretch. The avg margin in our games is only -5 points. We are losing close games. It probably comes with starting no Juniors or Seniors. Im gonna try some stuff out in these last 2 weeks, and see what happens.

I also have to pad Knapp's stats this week to see if we cant get him any freshman awards.

Well, I went 2 and 1 in the Conf Tourney. I beat the 4 seed and the 3 seed. Lost to the 1 seed (who beat the 2 seed).

I'm on my way to the RTT as a 16 seed. I really think I will do well (I hope). With a record of 6-12, I'm only 3 wins away from my preseason prediction of 9 wins.

Speaking of RTT, I know we have atleast one NTT winner, but do we have a PTT, RTT or DTT winner in our mix?

That's correct, Kev. Austin won the first ever PTT in lg 12. And NYC won the PTT in lg 6, a season before going 22-2 then 20-4. And I know Twarpy's BR team once won a DTT. The RTT seems to have eluded us. Maybe RSF can be the first.

On day 1 of the RTT we took an 84-80 win over Carson City. My PG dished out 12 assists and I got a big 15pts from my backup center. We had a 14 pt lead with 6 mins to go before Carson City pulled to within 2 with :40 left. However Javier Fain hit two free throws with :12 left to seal the deal. I wish Fain would play this way more often as he ended the game with 20pts and 6 boards. The key stat of the game was our + 11 rebound advantage. Carson City looks to have a good future ahead of them with Knapp and Watson leading the way from the backcourt. If they had some more height they could be a forece to be reckoned with.

Then again, I have had pretty good luck with recruiting. Going for my 3rd Conf. 4 Freshman of the Year! Hope I get Seadler. :)

Well, Janson Knapp did what I expected, and won the Conf 31 Freshman of the Year award. His numbers were a bit of for League Freshman of the Year, but still, a ton to build on. The guy avged 22 PPG as a Rook, and shot at a 51 pct clip. Give him 2 years.

Jessie Watson was 2nd team all conference, and is a sophmore.

The team struggled a lot this year, with experience hurting a ton down the stretch of games, and losing a lot of close games (4-9 in games settled by 5 or less).

A good future. My recruiting is alright. If I can win a tie, I should be set. But the good thing is, Im losing no senior who makes much signifigance, and my starters shouldnt really change.

I placed my first ever player on the all-conference first team (conf. 6), as former conferece FOY and current sophomore Woodrow Warren became the youngest of the five choices with a 20.1 points/game scoring average. He also was my first ever player to average over 20 points/game. I didn't manage to win conference FOY for the second time in as many seasons, but freshman Benoit Danahy earned himself a spot on all-conference second team with a 16.3 points/game scoring average and over 50% FG shooting.

Next year will be my first year will all players I recruited, so far I've been stuck with 3 straight crap years of recruits. My last 2 recruiting years have been great, 2 straight Conf 10 Rookie of the years'. Hopefully I get a decent class this year and can maybe contend next year. I'm looking to finish 11-13 which is below my expectations, but I guess benchs mean a little more then i thought.

I was sure I was getting at least 2 walkons.

I got one max - Braxton Morton, Seaman, Jr. (+4), who KM was delirious enough to think he could've pried him away from me.

Then, the shocking stuff:
I had 34 RPE on one guy, tops had 76 (Mack Reis +2)
I had 39 RPE on one guy, tops had 68 (Edwin Moleman +4)

Well, recruiting for me wasnt bad. I won one of my maxes, and really, thats all I was looking for.

Both Toral and I didnt win Reasor, he ended up on another Conf 31 team, but Toral ended up being the other guy on Tom Hennesey, and got him over me.

Blue Hen You will be happy Noah Allegier ended up leaving his conference and coming to my team. I knew he was gonna have good attributes if I could win him, but I didnt think they would be that good. Im in a bind now, not knowing weather to start him or Watson...Watson proved himself to be great last year. But I guess choosing between a +6 and a +7 isnt that bad.

The recruiting class ended up being +12, but my problem lies in height. All my ties that lost were on the players who were tall. I recruited 3 players 6'2 and under. Janson Knapp, the super freshman 2 guard, is 6'8, the 2nd tallest player on my team, but he is slated as the 2 guard, and won Conf FOY in that slot.

Preseason will decide alot for me....

A plus 10 class without also winning any ties. That includes a plus 1 that I gather was ranked ahead of the guy I was leading on. Winning one out of two ties would have been a banner class. Have won one tie in five seasons.

Looks like Detroit is not computer coached. The dumbass apparently left an injured player on his starting five all year.

I got my league 4 team, Tucson Mountaineers. I'm glad to see I've got a couple
other gurupies in the same conference, which would be conf 31. I'm just
finishing my 4th season as the coach of Anapolis in league 14.

Tucson is in need of some big guys. I've got one 6-8, two 6-6 guys and the
rest are all 6-4 and under. Gonna be a looooong season. There is a little bit of
talent on this team though. If I can land a couple of big guys for next season we
should be able to break the 500 mark. For now I'm gonna let everyone play
about 20 minutes and go from there.

Balls, welcome to a tough conf 31.

If you think your height is a problem, check out my team! Ugh!

And the sucky thing, from the looks of the Attributes, no good big men to be found in our conference for recruits.

well, i am very happy this morning - i was expecting the worst from my first ever recruiting class but got a +14 class, top 20 in both rankings. The key was winning a 3-way for Roger Collier (not heavily recruited but turns out he should have been) but the suprise was picking up Hugo Geralds whom i was 10 pts back on (nice). 3rd guy is a solid back-up type guy, maybe a Jr/Sr starter.

If i didn't win the tie and didn't end up with Geralds (i had no business thinking i would) i probably would have had one solid guy and two walk-ons - very close to a disastrous class

Take home message --> try to be lucky!!

BTW - finished 9-15 (predicted 3-21), very flattering for a team that got 5 wins from a cream-puff OOC sched and two late round wins in the PTT (i was hoping for a DTT bid - i think we could have competed there) - 2 IC wins against the C18 bottom-dwellers.

Any thoughts on what you think the average player ranking is (i.e. +1, +2)? I know the ranking don't necessarily correlate very well with team success but it would be interesting to know the average team/player ranking.

I haven't been paying attention to this game for the last couple of seasons, but I see the league has gained popularity here which is cool to see. I am going to try and rebuild my team basically from scratch now. I have NO talent, but it should be fun trying to get back to the top. I will probably win 3 games for a couple of years. Congrats to bmd on winning the title.

Spyce, congrats on the class. Everyone that got one of my ties had a top-20 recruiting class, so I just got the short end of the stick this time. +5 class, and no real help for the starting lineup, and the added year for my returning starting 5 will hopefully overcome the weakening of my bench.

Looks like your in the same boat as me, kev. Kind of sucks, eh? Well I've got my top 35 recruits flagged already. They are all 6-8 on up. Kind of a bummer that there's not any good big men in the Conf. Will more than likely have to settle for some average big men.

BTW, is there any recruiting do's and don'ts concerning recruiting from another gurupies hometown, or conference? I don't wanna step on any toes.

balls Welcome to Conference 31. We need some competition here. If you check the League 4 MB you will see Roswell complaining that it is he and me (Long Beach) for time immemorial, and asking, where are the other teams?

Re recruitment: in conference, anything goes. You and I and Kev are competing to win the conference and everybody should go for the best players. Out of Conference (OOC): I generally make it a position not to look for sleepers in a conf where I know there is a Gurupie simply cause I know if I recognize him, the gurupie in conference will. Gurupies often discuss who they are maxing OOC on these boards (or in the Chat Room, in the old and perhaps future days) and may alter their maxes to avoid unnecessary conflict. But first come, first served, you can say, I intend to max Bojangles. Anyone else doing so? And then work it out.

Good luck. I don't really appreciate Gurupie competition -- I like the easy life I have had for many seasons -- but in a sense I welcome it.

Thanks for the welcome Toral, and the recruiting info. I hope to offer some competition for our conf down the road. With my Lg 14 team I have never taken them to the NTT. We've pretty much have been a 500 club, only 1 losing season though. I've been terrible at recruiting and keep trying different tactics. Hopefully I can get better at picking the sleepers and then give you guys a good fight.

Heh, guess I missed a lot.

What are Allegier's attributes? If I recall, he
had excellent rebounding, which at his height
is slightly less useful than Tom Glavine's
suberb baserunning skills. And lemme
guess. Excellent intelligence?

I got a stud, a demi-stud, and a 6'8 walkon.
Could be worse.

Blue Hen...

His att's are a +7. GFEEEF

He had a fair plus in defense when recruited (IIRC), so Im hoping maybe by a Jr, he will move up to G. The Exc rebounding is really not important, your right, but I think the Exc Intelligence is a key with a PG. With Exc Hands and Exc Intelligence, I can put up with the not so hot defense.

The Janson Knapp experiment at PF started well last night. 10 boards, and 31 points. I hope with his move to PF (and increased boards most likely), he can challenge Toral's Tracy Lindsey for Conf POY.

Should be intresting to see what my team can accomplish.

Won 2/3 preseason games against some ok opponents hoping to improve on my crap year last year.

Update on my lg 7 team. I won my conf tourney I'm 14-4 the team I beat has had a PR ahead of me all year and is also now 14-4. Three of those loses are to me. What I don't understnad is how they are PR'd ahead of me. Also they have a better seed in the NTT.... ?

Any League 4 Season 16 predictions? I've gone 3-0 in preseason (although against pedestrian teams, though I'm not much above that). I missed last years 9-15 prediction by finishing at 8-16, so lets use that as a baseline and move it up to 10-14.

Well, I took Glendale from a 14-10 record down to 10-14 in my first season last year. But, I'm returning the Conf. 27 POY, and another first team all-conf. player. Add that to the fact I lost no significant seniors, and got a couple of decent freshmen, I think I can get back to a 14-10 record.

Well, I was dead on with my 10-14 prediction last season. I lost no starters, and I definitely improved my backups, so I'll predict a 12-12 record, although I wouldn't be surprised if we can do better.

I was waaay off my prediction last season with Independence going 9-15 (predicted 3-21) with a very easy schedule -lost one key starter and brought in a nice class - with a more difficult sched i will predict 10-14

Without looking at the schedule, I'll go ahead and say that I can do a little better than last years record of 6-18. I'll predict a 8-16 finish for the Mountaineers.

last year I predicted 12-12 for Carson City, but my lack of experience, combined with my lack of height, hurt me in the close games down the stretch. I couldnt board, and the teams hit the shots late I would miss. I finished 6-18. This year, with hopefully more time able to spend changing lineups, etc, I hope to hit 14-10. Janson Knapp has another year under his belt, and we will see how the PF experiment goes.

And in a bold move, I will pick Knapp to win Conf POY...and maybe, just maybe, first team Lg 4.

Reno Spartans

I predicted 14-10 last season, and finished 11-13. There is a good reason for it, I made the NTT. I was 10-8 after win my league championship and making the NTT. I promptly lost 5 of 6 tournament games, finishing under .500 for the 4th consecutive season. Oh well. I was happy to make the big dance.

Based on my schedule I think I should go 11-5 in the regular season, with a good chance at winning my conference tournament. If I make the NTT I'll guess 14-10, if I make the PTT I'll get risky and say 16-8.

I refuse to predict a final record but will say I'll be highly disappointed if we aren't a #1 or #2 seed in the NTT. Once there, luck plays a major role so anything past the sweet 16 is considered a success in my book.

I intend to max the following:

Wayne Elswick-conf 31
Art Frost-31
Myles Brock-30
Gordan Hannah-32

Anyone else on these guys?

I need height and rebounders pretty badly and these guys give me that. I'm currently at a -14 rebounding disadvantage.

Spyce, Sorry I can't help ya there. It does the same to me.

I think Hannah will be highly recruited as well. I'm willing to try and get him though.

Yep, Toral there is not much to look at in 31. If I have to go OOC I still try and stay close to home.

In my first attempt to get a team in lg 4, I got a team in lg 11 instead. I'm practicing my recruiting there and I came across a guy that had +11 attributes. He has E across the board with a G int. I maxed him and thought he was going to be highly recruited but he doesn't appear on the 75 most recruited list everyday. He does show up after the games on Monday but the rest of the week he is off the list. W3's come out Friday. I would say that, at the most, 2 other people have him maxed.
