so, who's recruiting who?
I REALLY need size, at the moment, I'm maxing: Gaylen Smiley (29) Jacques Rodriguez (29) Sharone Feger (5) Brendan Leitner (5)
Very much subject to change in the next 16 hours, but probably won't budge on the top 3. Recruiting two guys from the same OOC hometown may not be smart, but it is a computer coached city, so maybe it is? Anyone have luck by recruiting computer coached places? |

J, I'm always amazed by the coincidences in gurupie thinking. Last night, I maxed Feger as well (plus Vaught, also from 5).
Don't think I'll have time today to choose someone else, so let the best gurupie win!

I decided to let Toral and balls and probably the rest of Conf 31 go after Eisner.
Art Frost (31) Darren Tabler (8) Erin Swanson (11) Paul Irvin (32)
We will see what the rest of the recruiting holds for me.
On another note, Carson City lost another close game, and has started the season 0-2. Not good.

I went:
Russell Olson c5 Hubert Elkin c9 Kevin Dennison c9 Louis Robertson c21
Robertson came out #7 most recruited (DOH!) and Elkin came in at #40. Olson should be interesting, conf 5 has 3 autocoaches (including Ithica, where Russell is from). The remaining 5 teams don't look like they have strong histories. I just need to steal a 7 footer away from Blue "I love 'em large" Hen.

I put a point on the 7 footer, then I remember Blue Hen already probably had maxed him.
Im glad I stayed away from Elswick. 8th on the highly recruited... Lots of people from Conf 31 on him obviously. He is the only star, or potential star there is.
With that being said, Darren Tabler from Conf 8 is 4th on the list, meaning I got myself a good lottery on the guy. Swanson is 47th, Irvin is 56th, and Frost, being my safety net, is of course, not rated.
Lets hope that in my first year using the one recruiting strategy explained in the other thread opens up some nice openings after the W3/W12's come out, or Im gonna need some luck.
Changed some things up though, and won my first game of the year. 1-2. Janson Knapp at PF is still up in the air. He isnt hitting the shots as much as he used to.

I'm not going after many big names, I have a few IC guys I'm looking to get just to add depth. Right now my starters are a +23 and my bench is a +3. I have 3 Jr's who are starting plus a Freshman and Sophomore, I'm gonna add depth for next year then I'll go for stars after that. Dunno if it sounds like a smart plan, but in the past I've gone for stars and I got 1 plus 2 duds in each of the 3 past seasons, so instead of getting just 1 more, I'll go for some bench guys and not take the big "risk" of going after studs. So far I'm 3-0 but my opponents are a combined 0-9. Either way I'm not playing bad.

3 of 4 maxes on the top 75 most wanted list. My other max is being maxed by at least 1 other person(kev). Hope I can find a sleeper with my other rpe's. Not off to a good start with the recruits.
I'll go ahead and make a prediction on my recruiting. Since this league is tougher than my other leagues, I'll say I get at least two walk-ons. I think I'll have to lower my expectations on guys that I think will be less recruited.

OMG I just had my biggest SSB victory ever!!!!!! My Rabid Tigers just upset the #2 ranked Athens Lonewolf in a game for the ages. Trailing by as many as 8 with under six minutes to go we made one final charge. We stormed back to take the lead with 4 minutes remaining and several lead changes occured for the next few minutes. Athens led 78-77 with 15 seconds remaining when freshman sensation Steve O'Reilly was sent to the line for two freethrows. He nailed both of them giving Savannah a 79-78 lead. Athens had one last chance to win the game, but a Lamar Ballard 3 point attempt was off the mark and Scotty Greer grabbed the board to seal the biggest victory in Savannah history. We felt that the only way to beat Athens was to contain uber-scorer Stacy Pletcher. We believed in this so much that we made a risky lineup change which actually worked for once. We used Scotty Greer's excellent defensive ability to smother Pletcher, and Greer also chipped in 15 points as well. Javier Fain led the scoring with 18, and O'Reilly put 16 in. One negative side effect of the game was that bluehen was able to move up from #8 to #4. ;) Savannah is now riding a 7 game winning streak into Boca Raton to face the 0-9 Bulldogs.

Recruiting looks nasty. All 4 of my maxes are being maxed by someone else. I'm tied w/ 7 others for Gordon Hannah, 5 others for Wayne Elswick, and 2 others for Brock and Frost. I'm not going to try and win the lottery for Hannah and Elswick. This team cannot afford any walkons so I have to go with some of my 2nd tier players.
I'm 4-5 for the seaons right now, halfway to my goal of 8 wins. I also won my first conference game last night by blowing out Olympia 76-58. I guess I should note that I have never seen a team as pathetic as Olympia. They are 0-9 this year and have won only 8 games in the last 5 years. But a W is a W!

1/1 on Hubert Elkin 2/2 on Russell Olson 0/0 on Kevin Dennison 6/6 on Louis Roberson
I still need to re-eval picking backups, as most (with a few exceptions) are Maxed. A couple are tempting to move to from Roberson. My luck (none but bad, so far) at Max ties may force my hand at this. 6 and 6 just leaves too much iffy-ness for me. I've got a few days to think though...
I guess the question is Do you feel lucky, punk?

And, no balls (ouch), you haven't seen the worst SSB team ever, until you have seen the St. Martinville Rednecks in conf 9. This must be somebody's second team they use to scout players with, because it blows! I mean they have 36 wins in the last 9 seasons. You have to absolutely suck to be THAT bad.
3 - 21 6 - 18 5 - 19 5 - 19 4 - 20 2 - 22 4 - 20 3 - 21 4 - 20
Now on a sad note...I lost to them last season. Doh!

I'm gonna sign St. Martinville and Utica to my schedule next year. Give my team a confidence boost :)
I wish there was a way to keep someone from having multiple teams in the same league. Pick6king, or whatever his name is, should be able to weed out the obvious teams that are not on the up-n-up. If a team, under one username, constantly sucks then there is something wrong. I don't think that it is to hard to recruit a .500 team, IMO.

Seaman had 81pts in the two games (46,35)
Kareem Wilkinson had 81pts in the two games (39,42). They combined for 88 tonight!!!!
Those two are fighting for nations scoring lead, Seaman holds the slight edge after tonight's games 31.7 to 31.4. They're also possibly fighting to be the #1 pick in the draft!

A little note about one of my recruits (who I am on a 2/2 max tie on), Russell Olson has been a HS player of the game for atleast 6 straight games (maybe more, I just wasn't looking). I need this guy!

Mama Mia-
I played San Diego last night who were ranked #6 going entering the game. I lost 96-95.
I kind of expected to lose, I'd beaten him twice in a row and figured he was due. However it's the way I lost . . .
He hit a 3 w/ 4 seconds left to tie the game in regulation. Then I was up 3 w/ 30 seconds left in OT. He hits another 3 and was fouled. He made the free throw for the win. Ouch. I didn't watch the whole game on the PBP, thank god. It would broken my heart to see it in real time.
I'm 12-5 now, and was ranked in the 40's before last nights game. I think I'll make the NTT with a win on Friday night. I'll probably opt for the play in tournament just in case though.

After a 1-6 start to the season, a trip to the NTT was the furthest thing from my mind. However, Camden finished the season on a 9-2 run, which, in a very surprising turn of events, included 3 straight wins in the Conf. 6 tourney, thus earning us my first ever bid to the NTT. Granted, we are a #16 seed since we're currently power ranked 110, but just being there is a great feeling. Consequently, you can now throw out my preseason prediction for final record, as it definitely was not contingent on Camden making the NTT. I'm just hoping we can go 1-5.
In other news, in the conference finals on Friday night, Camden's center Jesus Shuttlesworth nearly had a stellar personal achievement as he finished with 17 rebounds, 11 assists, and 9 points, just barely missing the triple double. What a clutch performance, though!

The Titanium Screws are one strange team. We are 7-12. Score 82 points a game, give up 81.9 points a game. Out rebound our opponents 38.2 to 30.4 (+7.8). My main problem is TOs at 198 total (vs 164 for opponents). I find it funny that we actually have a greater points scored than our opponent but still are greatly under .500 team. I actually am please with how this team is developing, considering I'm starting 3 freshmen and 1 sophomore (and one bad ass Senior).

My team has somehow managed to win 9 of 20 games thus far. Being in perhaps the worst conference in the nation helps. But the ratings for my team coupled with an injury to my best player and I should really only have 4 or 5 wins.
In general, I think we need more gurupie vs gurupie combat. It's fun to see how everyone else is doing on this forum, but it would be even better to start getting some year to year rivalries started. I'd like to schedule some out of conference games.

Also got into the NTT and promptly got bounced out the first night. Won the first consolation. My team has been inconsistent all year but I think having two freshmen starters will do that. Have all of my starters back next year except one, and I think he will be easily replaced, either from within or through recruiting. Have some nice leads on solid players fitting the Branson "style".
Anyone up for exhibition games? I will be experimenting so if we do it don't necessarily expect the typical Branson. Let me know.

While "All-Conference Selections" don't really mean squat, I hate how the game over-rates the value of an assist in determining POY.
The Titanium Screws ended up with one First Team selection (Senior SG Purvis Klinglesmith - 26.2 PPG) and a second teamer (Freshman SF Steven Atkinson - 15 PPG / 5.4 RPG / 2.0 AST). Pretty much what I expected.
How annoying is it when one of you max-tie recruits you lose out on wins the Conference FOY!

I'm game for either. Team #70 (the Atlanta Titanium Screws). An up and coming team (although we are losing our top scorer, I think we will be stronger next season. I hope.)

I won an 8 way tie in league 12 to replace my departing 6'11 GGGEFF stud. The guy's 6'9 FEEEFG. Also got two other maxes, uncontested both. #6 and #11 classes, so they say.

Hey, it's still my team. I recruited all of those guys. Just like with Corpus Christi in 17. Mauxfaux is just coaching them for me at the moment. I will be back. I'm just not sure when. I'm a little busier than I thought I would be.
Thanks again, bmd, for coaching my L1 and L5 teams. I check the teams every couple weeks just so I don't feel too left out in the cold and you have done one hell of a job with Bangor. I definitely would not have had the "balls" to swap Money and Kelty.
Anyway, I just thought I'd say hi and let everyone know that Gainesville is still under gdogg ownership, Mauxfaux is just doing a better job with them than I was able to!

Continuing the "haven't heard from them in a while" theme, coach Beezer is pleased to announce that he has finally placed a team in the Final Four! Unfortunately, it's only the PTT. With only 1 senior starting, I really like our chances next year if we can win a tie. I'll hopefully have time to see how recruiting went before I fly out Sunday to Seattle for a week on business.

OK, I've got a recruiting question:
Say I have a 0/1 lead on a player at the end of the season, and it is my only 0 lead on any recuit. Am I for certain going to get this player, or am I potentially going to get screwed over and he goes somewhere else?

Virginia Tech -vs- Florida State for the National Championship tonight!!
Joplin -vs- Reno (Flying Polack) for the PTT title tonight
Tampa -vs- San Jose (me) for the NTT title

I'm looking for one more exhibition game. Reno is in the finals of the PTT, and ranked somewhere in the mid-20's. We should be better next season, I'm losing 2 starters, but I have replacements already lined up. Let me know if you're interested.

Hey it only took another double OT, but the Rodans were successful in hitting their predicted 10-14 record. We lose Purvis Klinglesmith (26.7 PPG and 4 RPG from the SG spot) and some backups, but, if recruiting comes through, I think we can improve again next season. I mean, three starting freshmen and one sophemore, I see nothing but upward momentum!

We ended up 9-15, 1 win better then what had been predicted.

Norfolk finished 7-17, 4-2 in the DTT, not too shabby for the lack of talent on the team. luckly, all the starters return with a year's more expirience under their belt. recruiting went well, hopefully the computer gods will shine their light down upon my class.

I finished 17-7 after predicting 14-10. But I will be losing my best player (and two time conf. POY). Kristopher East was EFGFGF, not too bad for a +4 player, although he was 6'11". We'll see how I do replacing him. I only have one 0/0 lead, but a couple I'm trailing on are close 1/1's. So, if I can pull out a max tie, I should be okay. Good luck to all of you in the basketball draft. If you need another person for baseball, I'll be more than willing to join next season. Ask Flying Polack about my capabilities. Anyway, I'm out.

Hey jeff-East took my freshman SF to school!
Finished 18-6, and have all starters but one coming back. My first recruiting class graduates this year, and I remember how close I was to losing Dameron. He finished 71-25 for his career, with two NTT and PTT appearances and one PTT title.
Have three leads, one of whom will be a solid starter, another a solid backup and one who is probably pretty crummy! Also have three ties, 1/1, 2/2 and 3/3, all in conference, so I'm in pretty good shape.

Camden finished 11-13, one win short of our predicted 12-12 record. But I am not really disappointed, because in no way did I ever anticipate us making the NTT (where we went 1-5). So we probably would have done better than my prediction if we hadn't won our conference tourney. We lose 2 starters, but I think we have the folks to replace them with, so hopefully we can improve even further next season.

I'm satisfied with my recruits. I won both of my ties and also got a guy that I was over 30 points behind on. Ended up w/ a +7 class. I was trying to catch up on Forest Singleton, who ended up w/ JKaye, but fell 7 points short. I got the height I was looking for and all 3 should help w/ my rebounding woes. I feal very fortunate to end up w/ this class since I had no leads.

My recruiting class came out to be a +10, my best yet. I was able to win a 4/4 tie on Rich McCubbins(+5) who will replace my only graduating starter. We finished 18-6 winning conf 13, which was way better than I expected. Hopefully we'll improve upon last season as my entire team is comprised of players I recruited.

Haha! I was actually in the lead on Singleton but didn't get him!
By going 0-fer my Max Ties, I am officially 1 for 9 in Max Ties. Wow that sucks!
Overall, I am pleased with my recruiting class. They came in at a +9. I added height (6'10" and 6'11") and DEF (1 Good and 1 Exc).
This brings my total ratings to +38. Fairly respectable. The starting 5 should be a +22 and the bench a +13 (with +3 as NA), but we'll see in preseason.
Funny thing, my new added big men will probably move my starting (previous 2 seasons) Junior center to backup center. He lead the conf in REB and Blocks his freshman year (as well as top 10 in REB for the League). He was number 2 in conf in REB and number 4 in Blocks his sophomore season. Good Rodman type player but absolutely suckass on offense.
