Notes:
The Clam has made a decent adjustment to the older horse rankings. He is coming off an exceptional A3n 6.5f Dirt win in Idaho on Sept. 7, and has supplemented that with a pair of starter allowance wins. He hasn't been able to duplicate his exceptional 3 year old campaign, but given the increased competition level, would be a solid representative for Gurupie Horse of the Year.
Sixth Deputy has shown an amazing versatility despite his advancing age. A true "Gurupie" horse, he has put together some amazing performances. Most notably, he entered the Iron Horse competition and dominated the first two legs to lead the competition going into the final 14f marathon. Overall, he finished second, IIRC. Need to look that up.
In addition to those two wins, he posted an 8f on turf victory in a CPU restricted allowance win in California.
Val's Desert has notched 5 allowance wins so far in 2002, including the Spanish track record over 5f on turf (103.3 in slop). He's been hot lately, winning 3 of his last five starts, and notching 4 speed ratings over 108 in those attempts.
Jericho Velvet ran the fastest second place performance in starter sim history in week 1320. However, he's struggled to place in the top 3 of late, and probably doesn't have the win record to compete with the aforementioned company. He has the talent to turn it around, however, and is a dark horse to shake up the standings.
Mine Devastation leads Gurupie horses with 14 90+ speed runs so far in 2002. He has systematically moved through his allowance conditions and is on the borderline of becoming a stakes calibre horse. He has been a consistent placer, but needs to get hot to compete with the big boys.
OTHER NOTABLES:
Chief Coy A 3 year old with 2 stakes wins this season. He's been out of action since 1474, but with a rest, may return to greatness in the winter season.
Hero Grub the fastest Gurupie Filly so far in 2002, she's compiled 4 wins so far this season, and cranked out 7 100+ speed performances.
Nail Endangering Exploded for a 104.5 in an A4x win in 1523. She already had decent turf credentials, winning 4 of her first 6 starts in 2002. If she can continue to perform at this level on dirt, she may become one of the sim greats.
Ms. Secretive Not the fastest of horses, but her Gurupie record of 9 wins so far in 2002 bears mention, including a Gurupie record 6 in a row. She's gone 102.9 over 6.5f on dirt, and hasn't been beaten at anything under 10f on turf. Because she's been protected from tough competition, it is hard to know exactly what the ceiling for this bargain baby is.
LONG SHOTS: Ice Princess 3 wins in 5 runs...
Craw Chop 5 wins in 13 starts ...
Crowded Escort 6 wins, including a live streak of 4 in a row. This horse's upside potential is really untapped, and his 94.9 over 13f in less than perfect dirt is intriguing. --------------
