Subject: Lg 4 Season 20

Lets start off with some Congrats...

Congrats to RSF on a great season, only my goons cost him a chance at the title, ummm, sorry 'bout that!

Congrats to balls for taking over my 2 year reign for the #1 recruiting class!

Of course, balls said his class was a +14...mine is a +15 :)

Lost a pretty damn good +11 class, including both of my starting guards. They were key in the Perdadores Final Four run!

I somehow managed to win 3 ties. But I lost my 4/4 tie that I was really hoping for. I won two 3-way ties and a 2-way tie. I dont think I've ever won anything over a 3-way tie.

Now, as for my recruits...

Brandon Griffin 6'4" GGGFFG (+4)
He will probably step right in as my SG. He shot 55.1%his senior year, 47.4% from 3.

Kenneth Bethune 6'7" GEGGFG (+6)
Don't really know what I should do with him. I dont really have room in my starting lineup for him, so he'll probably come off the bench his freshman year. Tough to keep a +6 guy on the bench, but, well, he's a freshman. He only shot 43.6% from the floor so that helps makes the decision easier.

Emmitt Seymour 6'5" FEFFEG (+5)
Probably as bad a +5 as I've ever had. First off, I dont believe in defense :) or smart people! He'll probably wind up as my backup point guard. Or I may just put him as NA for a while and let Mach Jr get some playing time.

I really don't know what to expect of this team. Ratings wise I can start a +31 starting 5 and have a +21 bench. Not bad :) But I'm not convinced that the ratings are all that accurate for some of these guys. Devers is a +7 and has been a bust. Puckett is pretty solid but he's a +8 and hasn't proven himself to me yet. I don't have any significant seniors, so this team could be pretty damn scary in season 21. I still expect an NTT bid this year. Maybe a top seed next year.

Unfortunately for Albany, recruiting didn't go so well this season. We lose one of our best starters and a whole lot of size. :(

Out:
6-4 PG Kareem Ingram +5 (All League First Team Selection)
6-10 PF Floyd English +3
6-8 bC Terence Mahan +1

In:
6-3 Antoine Glaser +3 (G Sht, Exc Hnds)
6-4 Aaron Duggan +1 (G Sht, G Def, P Int)
6-5 Walker Saunders 0 (P Def, G Hnds)

So I lose a pretty good +9 trio and I only wind up with a +4 group(2 of which were walk-ons). At least I found a replacement for Ingram. Glaser should do great as my PG, if he comes close to his high school numbers (24 PPG)

What's really going to hurt my team is its lack of size. My SF/PF/C used to 6-8/6-10/6-11. Now they're 6-5/6-8/6-11. Also, I'm forced to play a 6-5 guy as my bPF. My rebounding wasn't even that great last season, so that's going to be a real problem for the Midgets.

I'll be happy if i can manage to win 14 games this season. My team is only a combined +26 (+25 if I include the NA scrubs). I'm not really sure what I can do with this bunch. Then again, I did get pretty far last season with only a +29 team. :)

By the way, my first exhibition game is against J's Perdadores, So wish me luck. I just hope I can come out of that game with a healthy squad. I have no idea what J's team has in store for me. So, we're going to spend some time in the film room watching WWE footage. Watch out! We may be Midgets, but we're psychotic!!!

Johnny Hammond : 7'1" : G-,G-, F+, E-, F+ (with a stinking Poor+ for Local...DAMN IT!!!!) Looking at J's numbers above, I'm screwed! He does have a Good- for Win...hmm.

Ugh...I just suffered my most lopsided loss ever in SSB. Fortunately, it was only an exhibition game, but still a terrible way to start off the season. J's Perdadores beat me 121-80. Now that I think about it, that's probably also the most points I have given up too. My team was fouling way too much, giving them 40 FT attempts! Of course, most of those fouls were in self defense against J's thugs. Unfortunately, the corrupt officiating didn't see it that way. :(

On the bright side, we did have a 2-0 lead to start off the game. If we can maintain that kind of intensity for an entire game, we should be fine this year. :D

And I'm not receiving any injury mail...so I guess that's pretty huge accomplishment considering the team that I was playing.

LMAO, AG! Tucson is a nice christian university and we don't recruit thugs. So you don't have to worry about my guys playing dirty. Good luck in our game on Wednesday.

Thanks for the props J! I don't think I'm lucky enough to bring in two top recruiting classes in a row like you did though. Congrats to you for achieving that.

Good game balls. Even though I lost, I feel a bit better about my team now, since it wasn't a blowout this time. My players actually looked like a real team out there! I was afraid they'd look like another Harlem Globetrotters opponent again. Whew, that would have been embarrasing. I would have probably quit.

Athletics Guy-

Great game last night. I hoped you watched it, our teams are very even.

BTW- Get Antoine Glasser into your starting lineup, he's awesome. I was one of other three guys recruiting him and he played as though he wanted revenge. He got most of his points on Dru Koch who is a Good defender.

It should be a decent season in Reno. It could be tough to make the NTT since I've got a tough OOC schedule, and it looks like Conf. 27 is improving rapidly.

Things are looking good for the future, as I'll probably start one senior, three sophmores, and a freshman.

Yeah FP, that was a great game! I can't believe my team was able to hang with the Spartans like that. That gave us some much needed confidence heading into the reg season opener.

I don't really know what to do with Glaser. The guy can definitely score, but the problem is he's taking more shots away from Simms if I start him. And since Simms shot about 60% last season, I'd rather give more shots to Simms. Unfortunately, Simms still isn't taking many shots even with my new PG who's more of a passer than a shooter. I won my opener so I'll hold off on any lineup changes for now.

I've located my first max and he comes from conf 32. Pete Winburn, his preferences are a perfect match with our program. I'm only maxing 2-3 guys this season and I'm still searching for the rest of em but I wanted to get the ball rolling with recruiting.

About half of my team is made up of guys who had poor or fair scouting reports. If I understand the reports correctly, a poor or fair report indicates that the scout couldn't get a good feel for how the recruit will perform.

Based on my experience, I think Mr. Ostertag will project out with a G shooting, G or E rebounding, fair to poor D, poor or none hands, G to E Int. I'm not sure how to judge athl. Based on that info, I think he would make a decent bPF for someone. I still wouldn't go after him though.

In regards to post #24. I know we have lost a couple of groupies(kev, blue hen), there is probably more but no one has really been recruiting any other groupies since I joined, that I recall of. I can't remember who posted it, but someone posted in one of the more active threads trying to get people to join. That's how I got started. I think someone should do it again at the end of this season. I think someone more respectable than I should do it, like J or RSF.

Just my 2 cents.

Recruiting looks pretty good in Reno.

Josh Henson (0/0), hometown kid averaging 23pts/game currently. I'm shocked he was 0/0 because he was actually on the Top 75 list for a short time. His attributes don't look that impressive, but he's got a Fair- scout.

Deon Snyder (0/0), good scorer, defender, with bad hands. I always try to max at least one guy who I'm sure will be 0/0. He was it this season.

Charlie Goff (1/1), I'm ecstatic he's a only 1/1. I saw his as high as fifties on the Top 75 list. He would make a great replacement for my graduating center Jeremy Hartman.

Jacob Effinger (4/4), tall SF who looks to be an EXE defender. Would fit nice into my lineup, but is a luxury, not a necessity.

Toral looks like we've got a show down looming for Friday night. I can't wait! I hope we can both make it unscathed and be the game of the night.

Ugh. Just looked up my maxes. Toral and I are both gunning for Colin Marcus from Reg 31. He has a Poor- for Local. Arg... Another local is on him, as well as a computer coach. 1 other non-Local is on him.

I think I can easily get one of my Maxes, a 1/1 where the Local is None+ and the competition is Local. Decent odds. Fair player, but least of my maxes.

Another, I am completing against 2 computer coaches. I hate that. Who knows.

Finally, I am in a 4/4, where 2 are Non-Locals while the player has a Good+ for locals. He has Exc+ for winning, but the other two are highly ranked also. Its a toss up what happens here.

balls, that would be appreciated. I think I can fill 1 big man slot, and was actually planning on using my backups as 2 or 3 slot players. I have several EXC rebounders ready to go for next seasons PF slot. Email any info to: SSBinfo @ itprime.net

Thanks.

4 undefeated gurupies in the top 8!

3. Me
5. ViD
7. Flying Polack
8. RSF

Polack meets Toral Friday night, should be a good one! he's also got a game next Friday against # 44 jeff1137 and his Glendale

RSF has a tough game tomorrow too, #26 Jackson, then next Friday against #35 Hialeah

VID has a tough game on MOnday against #17 Akron.

I really am jinxing myself here, but I like my chances at staying undefeated going into the NTT. My toughest game is against #50 El Paso and then #72 Riverside who I already beat by 19. My average margin of victory within my conference is 30.1!!!! So, the conference tourney should be fun :) My closest game all year was my last game when I only won by 14!

Should be fun! Good luck to the rest of ya! Lets see if we can get 4 gurupies in the final four this time!

PLAY SLOWDOWN. The game is definitely tilted there. And why is a 7-ft good rebounder on the bench as a senior? No wonder TH has a losing record.

Can you believe we're ranked #1 and #2 going into the playoffs? That's awesome. I can't believe it happened in the year we didn't schedule each other for games. I hope we get to play each other sometime in the NTT. I'd rather settle the score at the end of the season instead of the beginning.

WOW, three groupies grab 3 of the 4 #1 seeds in the NTT. I didn't look to see how many of us made the big dance but maybe this is the year one of takes home the crown.

My recruiting doesn't look all that promising now. In the past I would have had one or two clear leads and this season I have none. I just hope I can at least win one tie or get one of the guys I trail by 2 points on. I've got both N/A's available if needed.

Lost my second of three to Akron in the conference championship, limping into the NTT. Not sure what has happened but my scoring seems to have gone down the tubes.

To add insult to injury Akron caught me on my only lead. Didn't think anyone was near me and I only put six on the guy so it's all my fault. The irony is he's OOC, but I was caught by an IC team. Akron is really becoming my nemesis! Recruiting seems tougher this year for some odd reason. All ties and no leads.

Congrats Balls although I don't know how you can be ranked ahead of me with two losses. It just doesn't seem fair.

I really thought this was going to be a rebuilding year for me as well, but my defense has been phenominal. I'm only allow 59 PPG on 40.7% shooting. I'm my previous 8 seasons my best was 67PPG on 45% shooting. That's quite a turnaround.

Recruiting is looking good for Reno as well. I'm in a 4/4 tie on Jacob Effinger who would look great at SF replacing the graduating Terrence Glover. I'm still 1/1 on Charlie Goff who would be a nice replacement for the graduating Jeremy Hartman.

I've got 3 0/0 leads on SF/SG type players. I'm also closing ground fast on 2 big guys who are 0/0 for the leader and can't see me coming.

Congrats, balls. I just couldn't beat you, in 3 tries. Seemed to fall further and further behind each time we played. It's like real life, where I can't control [my] balls -- they seem to be able to overpower me.

This is either my last (or second last) SSB season, depending, on my recruiting class. This was planned; I don't like the new recruiting system; I paid $10 in to be able to try it out, but don't like it. Dropped my lg 1 team last year. Undoubtedly there are subtleties I haven't understood, and could if I tried; but the system on its face (local/winner/impact) is too simple-minded for me to want to pay to play. I don't want to pay, and don't want to continue as a perpetual small-market pushover.

I will remember the rivalry with you this last little while (and I may be back next season) fondly enough, even though I got trashed; as a conservative, I get used to losing.

lol, Toral.

I hope you change your mind about leaving, but I understand if you do.

I think small market teams can be very succesful, you just gotta change your recruiting strategy a bit. I know I have an uphill battle being a small program, but that is a challenge I look forward to.

You know, you beat me the first seven(?) times we played and I'm just now slowly evening the score. Plus your teams used to trounce mine. Whereas mine are barely winning.

Like I said, I hope you change your mind. I have enjoyed our rivalry as well and would like to see it last even longer. Best of luck in whatever you decide, ya big wus.

I'm not sure how much zone/man defense affects rebounding, but I do have some advice for you. First, you need to hire J as your assistant coach immediately. Then have him and the team practice on flagrant foul drills. I recommend you use your 2 NA players as the tackling dummies for that. Next, set your PF and C on Foul: More. With some luck, you'll knock Topeka's big men out of the game. They won't know what hit 'em! :)

wow, thats incredible man! 19-0 then lose 4 straight.

I was almost headed down that path. Lost my first 2 then came back from 23 down in the 2nd half and won in double OT.

Tough game balls! It sucks when you drain the big shot to pull within 4 with a little over a minute to go, gets you all excited, what a cruel game!

6 of the top 8 teams have 3 losses. #9 (RSF) has 1 loss, to the current #6 team??? wtf? he should be top 3, easy. I'm #10 with my 2 losses and have 6, 3-loss teams ahead of me. oh well, I guess power rankings dont really matter.

Very cruel indeed. I did not have the lead once in that game. Tied it a few times but not in the 2nd half.

This stat line is kind of bizarre. I comitted 28 fouls and had 4 guys foul out. Kind of seems like they actually practiced the flagrant foul drills. I don't recall having anyone foul out on my team before. It appears they were trying to play thug ball.

They dominated the glass like I thought they would. I'm not sure what I could've done different.

Speaking of power rankings, how often does a team move up after a loss. I went up one spot tonight.

Well, I got my first 20 win season. I guess that is the next best thing. Now I just hope I can land one recruit that isn't a walk on.
