If anyone is playing the SW Brazilian game, I'd like to get some kind of discussion group going on it. I am an American living in Massachusetts and have never heard of any of these players but I am playing and am currently in the Top 15%. If you have played SW sports before, you will do well. I need to get a little insight about the players and depth of the teams (i.e., injuries, starters, who is going to the Olympics, etc.). I am on these boards virtually daily, so feel free to respond, or e-mail me. Thanks.

Motley would love to help you out but playing the premiership game is already timeconsuming enough (together with my other addictions). So can't help you out.

I signed up for the game but do not have a clue about the players. Zero knowledge. Just going by the market watch and making my decisions accordingly.

Haven't scored a point yet but I'm 709 in the world, so I gather participation is limited.

If you really like soccer you should check out the English Premier League. There are still openings in gurupie divisions (the one I'm in), and there is much more information available for research. And due to injuries and things like international competitions I would think the opportunity to gain ground quickly is there.

I like soccer, but I would be too far behind in the Premiership game if I started now. I want to win this Brazilian game--the prize supposedly is a trip to Tokyo. Anyway, if anyone has any knowledge to share about Brazilian clubs, I'd love to hear it. One thing I am concerned about is why Lucio didn't play for his club this weekend. I suspect he was off with the Olympic squad, but I'm not sure.

As a fellow MA resident I'd love to help, but I know even less about Brazilian football than the Premiership. Besides, the time demands of SW baseball and Premier League are already quite high. I suppose the only advice I can offer is to check out as many websites as you can to learn about the Brazilian league. Good luck!

Has anyone else noticed that with so few managers the market is very volatile??? I believe that during Basketball a bunch of gurupies drafted one player to see if they could affect the $$$ with no luck. It seems in the brazilian game there are only about 700 managers and 20 or 30 trades will make some serious $$$ or lose serious $$$. Maybe something to keep in the back of our mind for later on in the season....but I doubt that money is going to be a problem as the season wears on.

I noticed that, too, Prettyfly. I lost out on 4 players' points from that SP-PonteP game, and I am seething. I am currently #16 in the game, and I know if I got those points I would move up. I have written SmallWorld letters and posted all over their lamea$$ boards for them to do something about it. They completely ignored me. I am pissed off at this ridiculous company--not my fault only 2500 people made teams, they need to hold up their end of the bargain and maintain that sight alot better. They didn't even announce the miscue, which leads me to believe that their administrator presence at the sight is minimal. Hopefully they will get their collective heads out from the sand and DO SOMETHING about this.

Has anyone also noticed that the Official Game Rules say the freeze is every Wednesday and Saturday but the freeze date on your roster page is every Saturday? Has anyone ever tried to make a trade for a Wednesday game to see if you get the points?

I am pretty sure that the game has been programmed as the rules specify--to freeze on Wednesday and Saturday. I think whoever does the daily maintenance at the sight is a moron, or just has no idea what they are doing. One way to be sure is make a trade between Saturday and Wednesday morning, and then click the "frozen roster" link. It will tell you when the roster was frozen. As I said, though, my experience has been that it is on Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

No no. I made trades Tuesday night for Wednesday's games, contrary to the report that the freeze was Saturday-Saturday.

According to sw, I should not have received points for Tues trades since the freeze was Sat-Sat. But I received points for Wed games from trades made Tues night.

Going from sw's reported freeze period, I never tried to make trades for Wed games before since sw said the freeze was Sat-Sat. I traded on Sat and never tried mid-week trades. Understand what I am saying?

Wednesday-saturday freeze? I didn't know about that. But anyway, my strategy was always to pick up active players who will have two games in next week. 4 trades is not enough to eliminate all players having one or zero scheduled game. IMHO - if you don't know players (and I don't) then there is no big difference when you waste your trades.

BTW, this game is ridiculous.
1) Their SWP update is unpredictable. You will never know which game they will miss next.
2) There is no money trouble, because players initial prices were very-very low. After first week I bought every player I wanted to and I had $10 mill. cash left (and all players were most productive ones). Why are they making this repricing at all?!
3) My best team (started one week late) was moving up very quickly and is now somewhere WWR 40. Can you imagine this in another fantasy game.

I hear ya fly. Look at your "frozen roster". It says roster frozen for 9/20. So you can make trades on Tues for Wed-Fri games. What bugs me is that sign on your roster that says the freeze is Sat when in fact there is a Wed freeze also.

Yes, I noticed that now, but I still will make my trades once a week. It doesn't make sense waste much time to this game and to all those bugs. But if I would end 1 SWP short to finish TOP 10 then I will turn VERY agressive about this 13/9 missing game.

Thanks anyway. :)

I got what you are saying, now VI. I just always went by the posted rules, and not by their moronic periodic updates on my manager statement. I have been using the Wednesday freeze all along--that's how I got so high I think, also after missing the first week of the season. Pretty good stuff, huh? Anybody wanna free TV--check out brazilian soccer...

Pretty funny--I speak English (obviously), took 7 years of German (less than proficient at this point, though), and am learning Portuguese (engaged to a Brazilian). You are right: it is close enough in some aspects to guess the meaning. But it irritates me when I go to Portuguese websites and I can't figure out the little words on the links, so I don't know WHERE to click. Thanks again for pointing out to me the Santos homepage. How'd you get into playing Brazilian Fantasy Football, incidentally, Prettyfly?

Yeah, you are right. First I created one team for fun and picked randomly players. After first week I found brazil league schedule and took a look who are actually playing and created another team. This second team is doing much better :)
I do not have any knowledge about the players, except Romario, Denilson and maybe couple others who had played in world cup. But I'm still hanging somethere in top 30.

After this last weekend I am up to #13, pretty good considering we started a week late. There are about 10 teams in fromt of me with Portuguese names, and I have looked at their division. It is just one division with all of them, they've probably been playing since the beginning, and they are obviously all Brazilians. Big advantage for them. Pretty sure I won't win, but I actually would prefer a TV (the 2-11 prize) to a trip to Japan to watch the Intercontinental Cup (sounds like something out of the WWF).
I also finally dumped Claudiomiro with the trades we got yesterday. That guy killed me in $$ and points, but oh well, hopefully I've learned my lesson.
Any word on Sao Paulo striker Franca? He has good numbers but hasn't played in a while--is he an Olympian, or just hurt? Would like to pick him up.

I think 12 Brazilian Time is 11 EST (Eastern Standard Time--New York, Boston). I have made trades at 10 AM EST before and been ok.
I am back up to 14th place--no thanks to my big defensive pickups yesterday Arce (who didn't play) and Denis (whose team didn't play, when I thought they would). Only 9 players scored and I still wound up with around 1600 points. Can you imagine what the Rotoguru Studs would be doing right now if they were playing this game?

Guys, you won't beleieve this but I will tell you anyway. I found out from my brother-in-law, who is Brazilian, that national elections were Sunday. So any games scheduled for Sunday didn't get played last week. I asked him why the hell they planned games for the same day as elections, and he said they didn't know that elections were going to be that day until after the fixtures had been scheduled.
I know this is unbelievable, but let me tell you all something about Brazil: it is not a priority there to have alot of organization. And this trend manifests in multiple facets of their society. One example is this situation where games were postponed because elections were arbitrarily scheduled for the same day. In the US people would have flipped out, there would have been protests, riots, and definitely a lot of pissed off voters if elections were not scheduled long in advance. But apparently, nobody worries about these things in Brazil. I have been assured that the missed games will more than likely be played at the end of the Tournament, after all the other scheduled games.

Can you imagine if game 4 of the American League Division Series was postponed because the Election Commission decided to schedule elections this week? God almighty. People would go crazy.
I think this evidence will definitely be added to Small World's pile of reasons why NOT to have this game again next year. I mean, this is driving our little division crazy. I can't imagine that there are any more than 1000 people actually competing on a daily basis. No one will play again next year, except maybe the Brazilians who are playing this year. And they probably just shrug it off.
"Gee, I wonder why so-and-so didn't play yesterday?"
"Oh you didn't know? The game was postponed by the elections."
"Oh, silly me. No problem, I'll get `em next time!"

Can you imagine that?

Hey, any of you guys (VI, prettyfly, Tom) still around? Wasn't this a blast, frantically trying to figure this game out while having a huge advantage over the newbies we were competing with? I've often told people that anyone who is good at one TSN market-based game could do well with any of them in any language (heck even binary code) as long as you know how to analyze what is happening in the box score.

On the other hand, I'm sure it was games like this that crippled Small World and sent them off into oblivion. If they would have just stuck with Hoops, Baseball, and Football, they might have made it. What a shame. I miss the free market-based games (and I'm not talking TSN Basic).
