Free Agent Adds/Drops
The claim system works best when your free agency settings are correct. For example, you probably don't want to allow free agent pickups before your claiming period. So spend a moment looking at your free agency settings to make sure they are right for your league.

During the regular season, league members are allowed to make their own free agent acquisitions:

  Never

  Weekly:
       Start:    EST

       Select an ending option:
Allow free agent acquisitions of any player in an early game until five minutes before kickoff of the early game, and at 12:55pm EST on Sunday for everyone else.

All players lock 5 minutes before the first game of the week (including Thursday & Saturday games).

Players lock 5 minutes before kickoff of their game.

The time frame you set will repeat each week of the regular season.

Dropped Player
This is a good time to think about what should happen when players are dropped (either through free agency or as part of the claim system). Here's your opportunity to make sure that dropped players are behaving the way your league wants.

When a player is dropped, when does he become available for pickup?

Immediately

Next Week,
Note: All times are EST.

hours after player is dropped.

Help:
Claim Ranking: For Fanball Commissioner to automatically process weekly free agent requests, it needs to know how to rank each team.

First criteria: Select the primary method of ranking each team for free agent requests.

Second criteria: In the event of a tie in the first criteria, this criteria will be used to break the tie between teams.

Third criteria: In the unlikely event that there are still ties after applying the first two criteria, this criteria will be used to break the tie between teams.

Note: If you choose "Commissioner manually sets the claim ranking", none of the criteria will be applied, and the commissioner will be able to manually designate the team rank for free agent pickups.

Players Per Team: In this area you will designate whether teams will be provided multiple free agent requests.

Deadline/Processing: You can designate the automated claim process to run any day during the regular season. Simply select the days and times you want the process to run.

Player Dropped: Tell the automated waiver system when dropped players become available for FREE AGENCY pickup. Note: if you use the waiver wire system, players dropped by the Automated Claim System will go to the waiver wire before becoming free agents. If you don't use a waiver wire, dropped players will become free agents and are subject to your free agency rules.

==========================
Understanding the difference between the Waiver Wire (under Rules Setup/Waiver Wire) and the Automated Claim System is important.

Automated Claim System: This system allows all teams to bid on any number of free agents. The commissioner sets a deadline time, and when that time is reached, Fanball Commissioner analyzes all teams' requests and automatically awards players based on a ranking criteria.

Example: The Olsen Twin Fantasy League processes drop/add requests each Tuesday at 9:00pm, with the highest priority going to teams with the worst season-to-date record. Tuesday morning, Mary Kate bids on two free agents, Andre Johnson and Wayne Chrebet. Ashley also bids on two players, Andre Johnson and Javon Walker. Assuming no other owners make a bid, Mary Kate will be awarded Chrebet, and Ashley will get Walker at 9:00pm on Tuesday. The team with the worst season-to-date record would get Johnson.

b>Waiver Wire: If used, when any team drops anay player, instead of becoming a free agent, the player is held in stasis on the waiver wire for a length of time determined by the commissioner. While on the waiver wire, owners can place a bid for that player. When the player's duration on the waiver wire ends, Fanball Commissioner analyzes all the claims made for that player, and awards the player to the highest ranking team (commissioner determines how the ranking order is set). If there are no bids for the player while he is on the waiver wire, he becomes a free agent, and is subject to your league's free agency rules.

Example: Your commissioner has setup your waiver wire so that dropped players will wait on the waiver wire for 24 hours, and after 24 hours will be awarded to a claiming team with the lowest points last week. Tai Streets is dropped on Wednesday at 10:00am. He will be on the waiver wire until Thursday at 10:00am. While on the waiver wire three teams make a claim for him. Thursday at 10:00am, Fanball Commissioner analyzes the three teams that made the claim for Streets, and awards him to the team with the lowest points last week.

If no team had bid on Streets, he would become a free agent at 10:00am on Thursday.

The two systems can both be used by a single league. Note that any player that is on the waiver wire is NOT available for pickup in the automated claim system. If you use both systems simultaneously, the waiver wire has priority; meaning players on the waiver wire will not be available for pickup in the automated claim system.

Your league's trial period ends on Wednesday 9/22/2004.
