Subject: New Keeper League 14 team

- [16341313] Sun, Feb 16, 2014, 19:52
I've been having an itch for a second keeper league since the gurukeepers went under. G20 is packed, poli league is packed. And there are constantly managers asking about joining them.
So I think its time for a new keeper league at Rotoguru. League Constitution below:
Positions for 24 round draft:
C, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, SS, RF, CF, LF, MI, CI Util SP, SP, RP, Px4 Bench x 6 DL x2
Categories: Runs, Rbi's, HR, SB, BA W, Saves, K's, ERA, Whip
14 points for 1st place in a given category down to 1 point for 14th place. The winner will be the team with the most overall points after the last day of the regular season ends. If there are any make up games scheduled after the last day, those games will count.
Season limits: 1350 IP 162 games played per roster slot for hitters
Keeper Rules Managers may keep 0-9 players. Players kept count against the draft round they were chosen in. Draft rounds follow traded players. In season pick ups have no draft slot so they cannot be kept. If you do not have multiple picks in a given round, you cannot keep multiple players tied to that round.
Example 1: I draft Ted Williams in round 1. Later in the season I make a trade which brings in Mickey Mantle who was also drafted in round 1. I may keep either Williams or Mantle, but not both.
Example 2: I draft Ryan Sandberg in round 5. Via trade I also acquire Andre Dawson who was drafted in round 5. And via a second trade, I acquire a 2nd 5th round pick. I may now keep both Sandberg and Dawson. (however note - the next season if I do not obtain a second R5 pick I will only be able to keep 1 of the players
Example 3: I draft Ryan Sandberg in round 5 of the 2014 draft. During the season I trade my 2015 round 5 pick. I may no longer keep Sandberg unless I acquire a 5 pick before keepers are delcared.
Example 4: I draft Sandberg in round 5 in 2014. I trade away my round 5 pick in 2015 but acquire Dawson who was also a 2014 round 5 pick. I may not keep either. Dawson's draft round came with him, and come keeper time I dont have a round 5 pick.
Keepers are due 14 days before the first game of the regular season.
Manager Expectations Managers are expected to play a full season. Giving up part way, ignoring trade offers, your team or the league can result in your removal from the league.
Trades Trades must be balanced against a maximum of 24 players on a given team and 24 rounds of draft for each manager. Outside of that, trades may be vetoed at the commissioner's discretion if he feels there has been collusion or cheating of some kind behind the trade. Otherwise, trades will be assumed to be acceptable and pass after 24 hours unless there is an objection. If an objection is raised there will be a league-wide vote. If more than 50% of managers not involved in the trade vote against the trade, it will be vetoed. Otherwise, it will pass 48 hours after initially being accepted by all managers involved.
Draft In 2014 the draft will be a randomly ordered 24 round snake draft. Following years the draft will not snake. The order will be determined by how you placed the prior year. Teams finishing in 11-14 place will be in a lottery for the first 4 draft slots. All other teams will be reverse order of finish.
The draft will commence 2 days after keeper declaration and (for now) will be held at Drafttime.com with the league hosting site at Yahoo.
The lottery draft will be held shortly after the end of the regular season (to better facilitate offseason trading).
Draft Guidelines
We will have a slow draft as noted at draftime.com
Each draft slot will have a 4 hour window to make your pick. If you do not make a pick in the allotted time the next manager may go. You can make up your pick whenever you get back but forfeit the right to any players picked after you missed time.
If the draft comes back to you before you make a missed pick, those future picks will be allotted 0 time until you are caught up.
The clock will be shut off from 1am to 7am EST M-F and will not run on weekends - subject to change if must meet a deadline.

Guys I'll be picking this morning but I'm agonizing between 3 players for my 2 picks here.
2 pretty elite SP or one of those an 2nd tier OF. I dont often have 2 SP after 4 rounds (heck sometimes I dont have 1 after 4 rounds) but the pickins available are awfully tempting to lock up for a few years. I feel like with this pick I cant make the right one. ugh.

updates to constitution I've updated the league constitution above per our discussions.
-5 bench slots has been increased to 6.
-All references to 23 roster spots or 23 rounds of draft have been changed to 24.
-added language to keeper rules example 2 for further clarificatoin: however note - the next season if I do not obtain a second R5 pick I will only be able to keep 1 of the players
-added language to keeper rule example 3 for further clarification: I may no longer keep Sandberg unless I acquire a 5 pick before keepers are delcared

not good for draft time to go down when all of the drafts begin with a clock. I wonder if they will have the clock continue run even though no one can draft? I guess we just wait.

Seems to be fixed. He has his pick in and i received no emails indicating a different pick. From the time stamps and when the draft went down it was nearly 4 hours.
Draft is back up and running and we're back on normal schedule. And to address the posts, no it should not take 4 hours to make a pick but with day to day life 4 hours is pretty reasonable. Never know if you come up right when you go into a meeting or get in a car for a trip etc. The clock is designed to let us have our normal daily crap happen and still not get skipped. Hopefully with queues and simple attention we average under an hour a pick.

As we approach the fantasy trade deadline I just want to hilight a few of our rules to avoid confusion:
1. You can keep UP TO 9 players. So 0-9 players is acceptable.
2. You must have a draft pick available in that round to keep a player. So if you traded and got a player picked in round 3 from another team you would need to either choose that guy, your own guy you drafted or acquire a second round 3 pick.
3. Players picked up off the waiver wire or as free agents are not eligible to be kept.

A few things as we come into the final stretch of the season:
1. Wiggs - I think I would have rather had an injured votto not playing than chris davis on my roster. Looks like you made out on that one.
2. There was a lot of discussion about keeper rounds and fa pick ups. I think in 2015 we'll see some real reasons why I set the league up the way I did. Guys like votto, cargo and chris davis who either under-performed or were injured are tough choices keep as 1st or 2nd round players and may be back in the draft pool to restock it (davis almost surely will). Then you have breakout season players like Garrett Richards, Charlie Blackmon, and Lucas Duda who (barring injury would have) certainly been REALLY nice to have in the draft pool next season.
This is exactly why I didn't want to allow fa pick ups be keeper eligible. I think its a good way to keep the draft pool stocked a bit each season. With upwards of 126 players being kept, a keeper league draft can start to feel irrelevant.
3. I'll encourage everybody, again, as we approach our trade deadline to familiarize themselves with our keeper rules. I've already gotten an email from 1 manager asking for clarification. That is a good thing he asked to make sure. Because our rules are posted and we wont be deviating from them just because you didn't understand them and made a mistake.
One thing I'd like to clarify in the rules - when I say if you pick up a player from the WW or as FA they are not eligible to be kept: this includes players that were drafted, then dropped and later picked up, even if they are picked up by the same team

Just an interesting note - somebody could have ignored the OF this year and picked up some mixture of Corey Dickerson, Michael Brantley, Rajai Davis and Angel Pagan in the final 4 rounds and made out like a bandit.
Props to WG for what looks like the steal of the draft with Brantley (currently ranked 7th) in round 24. That's the 7th most productive fantasy player on the season taken with the 329th pick.

Once the last day of the season is over rosters are frozen. No player can be dropped or added. Trades can be made again. Any trade can be worked out thru email and posted in this thread.
Simply work the trade out thru email, agree and post in that thread that it is done. We will update the rosters next season during the draft. That thread is also where we will post our keepers.
For me, I'm willing to trade nearly anybody on my team. Here is a list of my players who are eligible to be kept and the round they were drafted in:
Chris Davis (1) Adam Jones (2) Justin Upton (3)- Felix Hernandez (4) Alex Cobb (5) Billy Hamilton (6) Greg Holland (7) Pablo Sandoval (8) Michael Wacha (9) Kole Calhoun (12) Howie Kendrick (13) Francisco Lindor (16) Alexei Ramirez (17) Yan Gomes (18) Avisail Garcia (20)

I'm not going ot do this every year, but this year since its our first season and there were a lot of questions about keepers I'm going to list each team's players who are eligible to be kept. These lists do NOT override our rules. If you see a player that shouldnt be on or if I missed a player let me know. Our rules supercede this list, though. Going to try to do 1 or 2 a day.
WG: Giancarolo Stanton (1) Yu Darvish (2) Freddie Freeman (3) Byron Buxton (5) Gerrit Cole (6) Ian Kinsler (7) Matt Adams (8) Javier Baez (9) Julio Teheran (10) Salvador Perez (11) Kris Bryant (16) Gregory Polanco (18) Michael Brantley (24)

Congrats Khahan! A well deserved, hard fought victory. I tried to keep you honest til the very end but don't think I ever made it really close down the stretch. Thanks also for starting this league up and running it well; was an interesting change from the other leagues and I definitely had to make some tough choices along the way regarding dropping potential keepers. Looking forward to next year!

Lottery draft. The following 4 managers were 11th - 14th and qualified for the lottery spots. Their draft order is determined randomly instead of by order of finish: 11. dr paul 12. wonder twins 13. c1 14. roller derby
The 'mix them up' random order is: 4 1 3 2 (http://www.random.org/sequences/?min=1&max=4&col=1&format=html&rnd=new)
This gives us roller derby dr paul c1 wonder twins
And the top 4 draft order numbers are: 1 4 2 3 (http://www.random.org/sequences/?min=1&max=4&col=1&format=html&rnd=new) Giving us a top 4 draft order of: 1. Roller Derby 2. Wonder Twins 3. dr paul 4. C1 The rest of the draft order for 2015 is: 5. gurudan 6. power of lemke 7. vampire weekend 8. downtown dom brown 9. port richey striptease 10 knights radiant 11 WG 12 foot solders 13 Bean 14 Khahan
Again, the draft is non-snake, so this is the order for every single round. And any player you keep takes up a draft slot in the round he was drafted in. So for example if Vampire Weekend opts to keep Mike Trout I'm essentially assigning trout as Vampire Weekends round 1 pick. If he also opts to keep Christian Yelich, I'm assigning Yelich as Vampire Weekends round 5 pick.

unless i misunderstand the rules, as long as that manager drafted that player in the original player draft, they are keeper-eligible.
