LEAGUE ANNOUNCEMENT

Draft has been released, and the league is activated. Waiver priorities have been set. All undrafted players are now subject to waiver claims for 48 hours. After that time period, they will become free agents and available on a first come first served basis. Any dropped players will be subject to the 48 hour WW before becoming free agents.

Waver priorities are set to the inverse order of the first round of the draft.

Electro and WG: it's on to plan B. Yahoo would not let me edit your rosters. Please trade Lugo for Felix Hernandez ASAP.

The following players are still not in the Yahoo database and are represented by the corresponding placeholders. Please do not waste your waver priority picking these players up. You have exclusive rights to said player as long as you maintain roster space for them. Either keep the placeholder on your roster or maintain an empty slot on your roster. I will be watching.

Phillip Hughes->Keith Foulke (Fosten)
Josh Hamilton->Kris Benson (Fosten)
Sammy Sosa->Sean Marshall (Fosten)
Joey Votto->Scott Baker (Fosten)
Joakim Soria->David Murphy (Taxman)
Matt Lincecum->Josh Kinney (Roboguru)
Dustin Hermanson->Cha Baek (Hubble)

Addendum: Since Fosten has multiple players not yet in the Yahoo Data base, he must keep the placeholder assigned to that specific player(s) that he wants to maintain exclusive rights to so we can differentiate whose rights he wants to keep. For example: if he only wants the rights to Sammy Sosa, he must keep the placeholder assigned to him. Since all other managers with similar players only have one, they just need to have one empty spot on their roster.

I also posted this addendum on Yahoo, since Fosten has only posted twice on all of these threads, once to sign up and once to choose his draft order.

Also,

I have had overtures for one of my 4 closers. I am leaning toward seeing how things shake out in the first month befor parting with one, but please, if you have a comparably drafted SP to trade, shoot me an offer. FYI, Papelbon, the closer would have gone 3.10-4.05 IMHO.

Also

MJD - could you post the trade dispute guidelines that Guru uses? I like his policy and its good to be clear before one arises.

One month down, 5 to go: Bandos wrap-up.

Gotta like what I see so far: My hitters have been solid with some under and over achievers, but they are balancing out. And Albert isn't hitting yet. Hudson will come back to earth and I hope Roberts doesn't miss too much time.

My staff has been excellent except for Reyes who I expoect to bounce back. Shields, Gorzy and El douche (before he hit the DL predictably) have been very nice surprises, especially Shields who is avergaing better than a K/IP. Im right on pace for innings and it looks like I'll have a closer to move soon. Looking for speed and runs at this point. Shoot me an offer.

A little desappointed of my staff... Few DL hurted me bad, Figgins, Schmidt (and Gagne didnt really hurt since it was a known fact)...

All the Houston squad play like noobs... Berkman is Slugging for .350!!!! Wtf with that?

Aynyway, with Figgins back (SBs) and hopefully some power from my so-far-silenced-slugger i should be able to catch some ground...

Wow, Howard has been the bust of the season so far. Gotta think he will start hitting, but I drafted light in the power department figuring Howard for high 500's in slugging, not high 300's.

Sighhhh.

I'm getting an itchy trigger finger, also. But my team is so bad that I really have no strengths to deal from. Plus my needs are many.

Maybe I should just make a deal just to shake things up. I wanted to wait until after the ASB to deal Crawford.

But he and everyone else are on the block.

Two items:

1. My initial reaction to this trade was that it was questionably vetoable. As MJD is the commish, I was unsure how to "protest" a trade. That should be figured out.

To be be clear: I AM NOT PROTESTING this trade as I can see a rationale behind it, though I may think it a bit uneven, aren't they all. In the RIBC, managers have to be left to their own devices and unless it is ridiculous (which this one isn't) then we need to let it go.

2. I am begging you, if you put a player the quality of Crawford on the block give us a little time to make an offer. I would have offered F Cordero and Bay for him.

I do check this board almost every day so it is not my lack of activity, but at 2:30 you make it known he is available, and several hours later you make the deal. Give us a day or two to make offers.

Wolfer, Tax, Electro. I am looking and will make some offers this weekend. I have a RP to trade.

Initially, I thought that the trade was a little unbalanced myself. Hubble sent a note with the offer saying lets try to shake something up, all players are under performing. Feel free to send a counter. Looking at the 2006 stats I was very surprised at how closely they finished last season. Along with this seasons stats, I felt like it was a pretty even deal.

Ensberg and Blalock pretty much both sucked.
Z and Harang had almost identical stats.
Crawford has a little more power and SB than Ichirc, but Ichiro is no slouch on the basepaths and a better OBP. Plus Crawford has been complaining about the new surface at the Trop and that's why he only has 7 SB this year.

The ranking numbers that players are assigned by Yahoo are pretty worthless once the season begins.

Bandos, I guess I should have waited a bit, but while Crawford for Cordero and Bay would have been a sweet deal for me, it might have raised a few eyebrows.

Even though there has been some non specific trade talk, very few names have been mentioned and no actual trades had been made. I'll admit that I should have held out a bit, but I've had buyers remorse on Zambrano since the minute I draft him and I jumped at the opportunity to dump his under preforming ass.

Commish Standpoint

As far as trades go, in post #4 I was asked about Guru's policy on disputed trades. I looked for hours, all the way back to the beginning of the initial RIBC rules, but could find no direct quote. I know what the policy is in the RIFC and would think that they are similar. They are pretty much exactly as written in the rules of our Yahoo site. In a nutshell, if at least 4 people hit the "decline trade" button the trade goes to a commissioners review. It doesn't say what happens if the commish is involved in said trade. But in the RIFC, if x amount of protests occur a league poll is taken and if 50% of the league veto the trade, then the trade is not approved. All of the RotoGuru Invitation league rules are pretty similar, so I'll assume this is it. However, if at least 4 people protest it, I'll post the question on the RIBC thread to clarify.

Please feel free to discuss further.

Will my saga with Brett Myers ever end? Figures that just as my team is rolling, and I mean rolling, something goes wrong. I was close to picking up Alfonseca and Madson last night when news of the injury broke, but couldn't bring myself to do it, let alone to chose between them. Good luck to both of you with those pick-ups.

Memo to Carlos Delgado and Adam Laroche: I'm still waiting for both of you to get hot. With the Myers injury, the time to pick up the slack is now.

Being a Phillies fan, I was watching the game and didn't even think about my fantasy team when Myers was injured. I was angry because the game should have been over, and Myers should never have been injured. Catcher Barajas failed to block the plate allowing the tying run to score on a throw that easily beat the runner. Earlier in the inning, there was another defensive blunder when the Phillies didn't get an out on a sacrifice bunt.

Gawd..I hope that Ryan Howard returne to prior years form when he returns from 15 DL on Friday. He should have started the season on the 60 day DL the way he has played so far. An absolute bust as the 2nd player chosen in the draft.

And then there is my other "big-time RBI/Slug%, Mr Garrett Atkins, who is already showing up on some FA lists in other Yahoo leagues. Atkins 2007 season so far reminds me of Jeff Cirillo,
who put up these numbers two seasons, no injuries
age...avg....OBP...SLUG%...R...RBI

30***.326/.392/.477/111/115
31***.313/.364/.473/72/83

then he moved to Seattle

32***.249/.301/.328/51/54

Atkins first two years (he is just 27 years old)
25***.287/.347/.426/62/89
26***.329/.409/.556/117/120
1/4 of the way through 2007
27***.228/.309/.341/14/18

So what is it with Colorado 3rd basemen.

Well, I will really miss Peavy, but with only 7 points from R and SB combined, the move really makes sense. Once Roberts and Hamilton come off the DL, I'll have a glut of OF and an available CL. I'll be looking for SP probably, So if Griffey, Bay, Brynes (who has been great for me!) or Dunn are of interest (or Hamilton) shoot an offer.

While you will miss Peavy, I hope that he keeps up what he has been doing, and can help my weak pitching. With Sizemore, you will get a run scoring machine. Didn't really want to part with him, but I have a lot of OF, and it was a real good offer that I couldn't pass up.

I know hind sight is 20/20, but if I could make my #'s 3 and 4 picks again, would I ever love a do over. Who would of ever thought that Rivera would have 4 saves, and a high ERA. And McCann, well, position scarcity is not a way at looking at a draft. Well, live and learn.

Interesting trade between Robo and Bash Brothers. Gallardo is the number one prospect of the Brewers. No plans for them to bring him up anytime soon unless there's an injury.

And now I'll miss Bay who has been on an absolute tear for me. Halladay is a rick with his previous injury but I had to replace Peavy as only had 3 SP left.

It ends up being Peavy/Bay for Halliday/Sizemore. I think it will be good for me as I will get a few xtra SB's, with a little diminished power. If Halliday stays healthy, he should be close to Peavy the rest of the way.

Two months into it and I'm doing pretty much what I expected...actually, maybe a little better in view of the fact that I have essentially nothing by way of steals and saves.

As I predicted, my starting pitching is good, and my offensive production okay. I'm still getting used to the offensive settings--runs and rbis in particular.

I haven't made many moves either. Just kind of hanging in there and enjoying the ride.

I might want to trade Alan Embree and one of my 8 starters. I need hitters (any position is fine). You can ask for Escobar, Germano, or Matsuzaka. Or you might want Wainwright or Josh Johnson. All offers welcome, but please shoot me fair ones.

All my team is on the block... even Crawford.

I need to improve in OF and SP (now that Schmidt is DL again)

I have CI to offer, RP.

Best scenario for me would be Crawford and another OF like (Wilkerson, Jenkins or Brian Giles) + Weathers. For 2 everyday OF (with good SLG) + 1 solid SP.

Open for 1 on 1 too... And if there is any beleiver in Berkman for the 2nd half i'll take offers too there too. No ridiculous offers will be replied to. But be certain that i'll consider any fair offers and make a reply.

Hmmm... I could be falling back to earth after a magical two week ride running from 9th to 3rd on the back of offensive surge by 4 (way to many) Colorado players running amuck at home), Ryan Howard (he had been MIA for April May) and waiver wire gold of Willits and Hart.

I would consider trading LAD stud (and new SP) Billingsly for serious R, RBI, SLUG type CI. Also, MI/2B Valentin and OF Tavares (Steals and R producer) are available for lower level R, RBI, SLUG or possibly a closer.

Finally, Burrell, who will hit again, but is buried on my bench as well as Philly's.

If I took a trade offer as a joke, I would reject offer, make a mental note to ignore manager...end of story.

If I wanted to discuss the merits or work out a trade, I write directlty to the other manager. I know the discussions I've had with Bandos and Jumpball, to drop a few names, have been cordial and positive, eventhough not culminating in a trade.

Regrettably, in past leagues (2006 RIBC Football), I have gone direct to "the boards" denigrating a trade offer. Doing such has a chilling effect on future offers from the "offending" manager, and others offended by the post. I speak with some experience here having posted opening offers to the boards with out communicating first with the offering manager, and then finding myself black listed (rightfully so) in future trade discussions ). To me, trade offers are private to allow discussions with out alerting the league as to specific players offered and requested (chills the bidding process) and not disclosing league wide, mine or another manager's player evaluation and valuation process.

I suppose one doesn't think an offer will be taken as a joke by another, unless one clearly understands how the other manager evaluates players. I try to stick with my values and not adopt another's.

Since we have gone public, here was my thinking, which was solely motivated by our recent posts.

IMHO quality SP is the hardest in season acquisition off waivers, and has more trade value than hittting. Berkman has not performed close to his pre-season projections, although he appears to be improving. Ranks 135 YTD and 91st last month in Yahoo ranks. Billingsly, Ranks 192 YTD and 132nd last month, but as a non-closing RP. To me, his value increases by joining LAD rotation, becoming a source of W, K, ERA (YTD and last years stats agree with me) with an acceptable ERA YTD (although as a starter last year his WHIP sucked).

Whether or not flawed, I've laid out my reasoning. Having done so, let me publicly apologize for offering the trade...sarcasm intended.

Offer was...

Chad Billingsley vs Lance Berkman

1 on 1

...

I've done enought Fantasy Sports to know how trade process works. It all starts with a trade offer. It doesnt have to be absolutly fair, none are really perfectly fair. But it's kinda hard to imagine someone wants to have cordial and positive discussion when the basis is that kind of offer.

Berkman is my 2.1 (first roudner in many drafts)... Billingsley is 24th rounder... and undrafted in many draft. Now i perfectly know that we are not at spring training and that value now is not the same. But plz... you know what i mean.

I didnt ask for appologies by the way. I was just surprised that it came from a veteran. And i certainly didnt mean to make a big story out of it. I'm still open to "relativly fair offers" from everyone including good ol' taxman :)

I did sit for 1 hour looking at all the teams, trying to figure out fair trade offers to trigger some talk and frankly, i never found it so hard in any league. And i suspect we all feel the same since there is barely no trade action (7 trades so far is very few IMHO).

The funny part of it is that the league is farely active on the f/a market 11 of the 16 teams made more than 19 moves so far. Other manager who did less than 19 are active managers that i know (Bandos, TD, jumpball and wolfer)

I actually don't know where i'm going with all that... just a remark i guess. It's a real competive league (active managers) and i guess no1 wants to make a blunder and loose some ground.

For my part, i'd be willing to exchange some underperformer with some other. Just for the heck of it.

Garciappara, Wilkerson, Jenkins, Giles & Blalock...

And some good RP. Gagne, Otsuka, Weathers, Reyes & Howry.

As for what i'm looking for. Everyday OF or SP.

Cheers to all

I guess that I should have known that Jake Peavy wasn't going to keep it up all year. When I traded for him, he was 7-1, 1.68 ERA and 92 k's in 80.1 innings. Since being on my team, 2-3, 3.46 ERA and 38 k's in 44.2 innings. I hope that Sizemore has done better for you Bandos. Willis, Lee, and the rest of my starters except for Jeff Francis have been terrible. Some1 wanting some Saves should hear this :

On the block:
David Weathers 20 SVs
Al Reyes 17 SVs
J. Walker 4 SVs since july 22
CJ Wilson 2 Svs in last 3 days

I'm willing to go 3 for 1 for a decent SP. Something like Weather or Reyes + Walker + Wilson for top 25 SP + whatever leftover CI or MI.

I can also throw in Ethier/Byrd/Giles/Durham/Inge/Harris/Lamb to improve my CI/MI a little.

Lastly, Crawford/Ordonez/Berkman could also be included for top notch players. Especially Crawford since i don't need the SB anymore.

If you are interested just shoot me an offer/email and i'll counter and try to work on a fair deal.

In case anyone hasn't noticed, Yahoo starting lineups symbols are not always correct. I usually check MLB.com for starting lineups, but ran late and just ent by Yahoo's stoopid symbols. Well Giambi had an "x", which means not starting.

I'm checking box scores and Giambi started at DH, and just hit a dinger.

Funny, I was out on a boat for so long that this was the first time I had to check this board. That was a good night. I'll need some more of those before this one is done. What a power move by the taxman - when you opened up the 10 pt lead on me, I though it was done, but there is quite a lot of movement still with some bunched groups in many categories.

Feel like I am scrapping the bottom with my pitching as usual - just hoping it holds out.

I found that R, RBI's and Slug seem to be connected at the hip. Back in May, I was either a 1, 2 or 3 in each of those categories. As sluggers such as Atkins, Howard (and Burrell @ all star break) found their stroke in late May/early June each of those categories rose @ 10 places in AAA league standings. My OBP had/has been in the 14+ range all season. My conclusion is that OBP helps, but R and RBI's appeared tied to Slug...maybe that is a backwards way of agreeing as w/o the Slug component of OPS, nothing was happening for me.

OK Bandos...you've made me rethink my premise and my conclusion was stooopid. The following proves nothing, but illustrates the quandry.

Top 4 teams R, RBI, S, OBP and Slug thru 9/9:
1. Tax ribc 13 13 16 15 11
2. Bandos 4 7 11 13.5 13
3. Bash Brothers 16 14 9 7 16
4. Uptown Bombers 14.5 15 12 8 4

Summary of league points R+RBI and OBP+Slug
1. Tax ribc 26...26
2. Bandos 11...26.5
3. Bash Brothers 30...23
4. Uptown Bombers 29.5...12

I can see no trend here. Bandos leads the pack with a 26.5 combined slug and OBP yet he has only 11 in combined Runs and RBI's. Compare Uptown with only a 12 OBP+Slug and blowing the league away in combined Runs and RBI's.

I cannot not come up with a theory that reconciles the difference in offensive output for Bandos and Uptown Bombers. And to answer Bandos' original question, per Uptown's results, you don't need either OBP or Slug to generate Runs (and RBI's).

We had a tie for third, not sure how that will be handled by the RIBC, but I did post our final standings on the 2007 RIBC thread over in the Baseball Forum so it's preserved for posterity.

What a cruel season it was for me... after a start in the basement, i worked my way all the way to 105 pts in august and expected great things for the last month with Burnett and Blalock finnaly coming off the DL... just to see my team implode in the last month.

Here are # from Zambrano in aug. 0-4 7.06 era 1.88 whip... Penny was almost as bad and Crawford went DL, Gagne traded... and on and on...

Its always fun to see top guys being the most active manager!!! Top 3 teams are the 3 most active. (i willfully ignore uptown's team to make make point :)!!!

I had to stop making some moves, especially pitching pickups b/c they started to bomb. In particular my string of MR's, most of whom immediately gave up 3 and 4 run innings after pick up. If I had made 80 moves, I would be down the rankings. :)

Since I brought it up, I will offer a sum up of my year.

For one thing, I learned that when you jump form AA to AAA, there is quite a difference in the quality of the owners.

The Draft:

First off, I undervalued pitching, and figured that I could pick up some along the way. I did that, but my picks were not as I had hoped. Willis, Patterson, and Millwood didn't really perform like I had hoped. And the terrible stats of Millwood and Patterson hurt me all year.

One thing that I kicked myself for the whole year is a mistake that happened during the draft. A player got chosen that wasn't supposed to(Hey, it happens). I know that I had Beckett and E. Santana in the queue, and I believe that Beckett was on top. I could have corrected it, but didn't, thinking that Beckett would fall to me. He got picked up a few picks before my turn came around. I had to get that off my chest, because that could have changed a few things on my team. Hind sight is 20/20 right. Also, position scarcity doesn't over ride over all talent.

Best picks: Torii Hunter and Aaron Rowand.

I was very happy with FA's that I got, like Ryan Braun, Jeff Francis. Kotchman and Bradley had their moments, but injuries hindered them.

All in all, had fun. Thanks to MJD for commishing. You did a great job! Hope you all have a nice winter, and see you next spring.

great job Taxman...u just ran away from the pack...something i thought i was poised to do when i was leading late in the season...but a team wide slump led me to drop quite a few points...

as for my retrospective:

Draft Review:
1.11 David Ortiz – a down year for big papi and he was still the top 1B in the rankings
2.06 Jimmy Rollins – perfect compliment to Ortiz…#2 SS as I predicted
3.11 Vernon Wells – MULLIGAN!...worst pick of my draft…worse yet that I held onto him waaaaay too long…add in the fact that I passed on ichiro here…UGHHH
4.06 Trevor Hoffman – exactly what I expected from hoffman…40 saves and good ratios
5.11 John Lackey – thought he was my SP1 at the time…very please with #7 ranked SP
6.06 Hideki Matsui – top 20 OF was pretty much what I expected
7.11 Richie Sexson – 2nd bad pick of the draft for me…didn’t last long on my roster
8.06 Brandon Phillips - #1 rated 2B made me very happy with this pick
9.11 Justin Verlander – solid SP2 pick for me…ended up #15 among SP at the end
10.06 Aubrey Huff – hated this pick the moment I made it…I missed on 3B and it plagued me all year
11.11 Josh Beckett – he was supposed to be my SP3…he ended up #4 overall…great returns with this pick
12.06 Kenji Johjima – wish martin had made it to me here…johjima gave me my 2nd position that plagued me most of the year
13.11 Roger Clemens – gambled here…didn’t really pay off but luckily my other SP overachieved for their draft slots
14.06 Jorge Cantu – he was supposed to be my MI…he turned out not being on a MLB roster shortly after the draft
15.11 Jeremy Hermida – his final numbers exceeded my projections…helped replace the numbers I missed from wells
16.06 John Garland – not the 18 win season he had the 2 previous years
17.11 Craig Monroe – passed on victorino and capps…not a good decision
18.06 Pedro Martinez – returned later than I had hoped…but he gave me a nice push now the stretch
19.11 Kei Igawa – SP 5 pick that didn’t pan out at all
20.06 Gary Matthews Jr. – very good pre all-star splits gave good value here
21.11 Ryan Garko – valuable CI with the collapse of Sexson
22.06 Tim Lincecum – great pick if I could’ve been more patient…having Clemens and pedro on my roster limited my flexibility early on and cost me lincecum…
23.11 Tony Graffanino – gave me position flexibility for a while…which was important with 2 NAs on my bench
24.06 Doug Davis – 8-2 in the second half didn’t help me after the 5-10 first half
25.11 Cliff Floyd – not much playing time in a crowded cubs OF

turned out to be a pretty successful draft…very good at 1B, 2B, SS, and SP, serviceable at CI, OF, and RP, and obvious weaknesses at C, 3B, and MI (which I pointed out immediately in my draft recap)…

Best Moves:
Accardo off FA as my needed 2nd closer
Pence off FA
Spilborghs off FA was a much needed boost with Pence on DL

Worst Moves:
Dropped Lincecum due to roster inflexibility
Dropped Pedroia to continue my MI carousel
Sacrificed priority to pick up Gallardo the day before Braun cleared (not sure now if I would’ve gotten Braun either way…but damn did I need his numbers at 3b)
Held onto Wells, Garland, and Sexson too long

Recap:
Being active saved me a lot of points…I was able to fill holes all season long with FA pickups…some good and some bad…but that is to be expected.
Down the stretch I feel I did a very good job of maximizing my points…I managed with an eye on specific categories and was able to get all the points I was after…im satisfied that I didn’t lose any categories by a small margin that I felt I could’ve overcome…im sure others are pretty frustrated since I did manage to win a couple points by very narrow margins…if only fosten hadn’t reemerged to stream spot starters, I could’ve squeaked out one more point in K and held 3rd to myself…

Very fun season…love the leagues with active owners…look forward to next season and anxious to see what comes from our tie for the final spot…

Recap of the season: I was much more aggressive trading and I think it helped overall, but I didn't chart it effectively. With the slim pickins on the WW, trading is essential.

1.01 Albert Pujols - not quite what I wnated but can't complain
2.16 Jason Bay - just awful for a second rounder, perfomed like a 15th rounder. My guess, he's hurt. What would it have been like had I grabbed Vmart here (the whole 3rd round was basically a bust except the closers) I did turn him into Halladay after trading Peavy which was good fortune for me.
3.01 Jake Peavy - was everything I expected and more, swapped him for Sizemore who helped me get 14 points in SB, and I still had some pitching.
4.16 Adam Dunn - what a steal this guy was- great season
5.01 Bill Hall - the lesson, as always, Im an idiot
6.16 Brian Fuentes - was fine until he lost his job. I ended up with 4 closers and had a huge lead in saves, traded away two, thinking I could hold on with only two. Then Fuentes lost his job and I ened up losing a few points.
7.01 Francisco Cordero - after his hot start, I traded him for Byrnes, who continued his great plat all year - the 40+ SB's were great
8.16 Jonathan Papelbon - top 5 closer, a few more saves in SEPT would have been nice...
9.01 Stephen Drew - major bust, until the playoffs that is...
10.16 Dave Roberts, hurt, provided my sb when healthy
11.01 Chad Tracy, hurt, productive when in there
12.16 Orlando Hudson, great start, then got hurt
13.01 Adrian Beltre, completely addequate for a 13th rounder
14.16 Ryan Dempster, fine until I traded gim with Shileds to get Mauer
15.01 Anthony Reyes BUST
16.16 Matt Kemp, too bad I dropped him
17.01 Corey Hart, held for a month, and then just couldnt take seeing another 0-4 - he was the player of MAY!
18.16 Rafael Betancourt, great reliever who I dropped for some Owens, who got me no saves
19.01 Pat Neshek, great all year til they blew his arm out overusing him
20.16 Ken Griffey, what a steal here, and he played 140 games.
21.01 Tom Gorzelanny, solid for 4 months, should have traded high as he really hurt me down the strecth
22.16 Dustin Pedroia, didnt have the same patience that the Sawx haddumped him for Lidge, wjho I turned into Bonderman, who eventually likked me in the last 6 weeks (and cost me hamilton...
23.01 Josh Bard, BUST, had to get estrada and then mauer - neither of which worked out.
24.16 James Shields. What a great pick. sold high and got mauer, who then got hurt.
25.01 Orlando Hernandez, solid when he wasnt hurt

Writing this helps me understand why my late season charge may have been a mirage, I had mounting injuries towards the end and my pitching fell apart. I had a sub 3 ERA for half the season and ened up in the middle of the pack.

Notable adds: Lidge, Hamilton, lester, Vidro (who carried me for a while) Ellsbury.

A lot of would, coulda, shoulda. I really wanted to finish in the top three, and had enough of a draft to finally do it, but juts came up short in the last 10 days. Mostly due to you clowns managing so well. Kudos, and good luck next year.

First, props to Taxman and to those who advanced. Nice to be in a league where everyone? stayed active to the end. Good job everyone. Great competition.

I was not going to do this, as I hate reliving bad things, but I did have fun and need to use this as a learning experience if I want to get better. I started off the first week in the top three, which gave me a false sense of what my team was. On April 9th, I dropped 9 places with a personal worst .234 OBP and a .122 SLG. I thought I was in a slump. Little did I know that my team was just going where it belonged, near the bottom of the pack. To repeat a common theme of most of us bottom dwellers in all baseball fantasy leagues in 2007: Jorge Julio.

The Draft
1.09 Carl Crawford, OF-he didn’t have his best season and I had hoped to wait until the ASB to trade him, but things went from bad to worse and I traded him and my second round pick for Ichiro and Aaron Harang. Got some decent numbers from both, but not nearly enough.
2.08 Carlos Zambrano, SP-a bad start and I unloaded him the first offer I got. In hindsight, I should have been more patient and held him or waited for more offers to come in.
3.09 Billy Wagner, RP-in the end, as he failed the Mets, he failed me. Dropping into unlucky 13th place in the last 2 weeks. Despite doing a decent job of rotating SPs off the ww to get caught up in IP, I couldn’t overcome Wagner’s blown saves and equally brutal numbers
4.08 Felipe Lopez, MI-bad year on a bad team. Career high in SB, but career lows in OBP and SLG.
5.09 Jason Giambi 1B-supposed to be the heart of my SLG numbers, but underperformed, got injured, then was platooned when he finally got back. A total bust.
6.08 Robinson Canoe, 2B-probably my best draft pick. About what I hoped for numberwise. Predicted a few more SBs, but not nearly enough to help my overall poorly drafted team.
7.09 Randy Johnson, SP-started the season with a bad back and ended his season early with the same.
8.08 Hank Blalock, 3B-I predicted a comeback year from him. He’ll be able to shoot for that again, next year, but not on my team. A throw in on the Crawford, Zambrano trade. I got Morgan Ensberg who had already lost his starters job. He lasted about a week before I dropped him. Blalock went on the DL about a week after I traded him and he spent most of the rest of the season taking up roster space on Hubble’s team.
9.09 Mike Cameron, OF-started off very slow and I dumped him before he turned things around.
10.08 Cory Patterson-another slow start, but turned it up before I was ready to drop him. Injured the last month of the season or so and even though I thought he might return. He never did, eating up valuable roster space.
11.09 Ervin Santana, SP-the poster child of my brutal team.
12.08 Solomon Torres, RP-drafted as my number 2 RP. Lost his job and got injured or vice versa. Dumped shortly thereafter.
13.09-Chris Burke, OF, MI-seemed like a good idea at the time, but underperformed, lost his job, and got sent to the minors early.
14.08 Bartolo Colon, SP-another injury risk that didn’t pan out.
15.09 Chuck James, SP-started slow, got hurt. When he was healthy, he was very inconsistent. Had a short decent stretch towards the end of the season, but too little, too late. Too many gopher balls.
16.08 Mark DeRosa, position versatility-along with the majority of the Cubs, a bad start and was long gone by the time he turned things around.
17.09 Matt Capps, RP-drafted as Torres’ handcuff. Lesson learned-if you are drafting the handcuff of the Pirates closer, your team sucks.
18.08 Jorge Julio, RP-enough said. Just brutal.
19.09 Casey Blake, OF, CI-one of the very few bright spots on this team.
20.08 Brandon Inge, 3B-dreadful start, dumped early
21.09 Placido Polanco, MI-very serviceable MI, later traded for Bronson Arroyo, who I could have picked up on the ww a few weeks earlier. Won a few games for me, but inconsistent at best.
22.08 Aaron Hill, MI-as opposed to most of my draft picks, he started good, then fizzled and dropped midseason.
23.09 Danny Baez, RP-another bad idea. Julio’s accomplice as my early season’s team killer.
24.08 Gerald Laird, C-who needs a good catcher?
25.09 Jeff Francis, SP-had a good season, but not for my team. I dumped him early after he got lit up at Coors.

A few good moves on ww pickups, but too few to mention.

My season was filled with impatience on players I should have been more patient on and I kept players too long that should have been dumped much earlier. And drafted poorly. In retrospect, I don’t know how I managed to finish 13th. Back to AA where I belong. But I did have fun and learned a lot as commish. So, really, no regrets.
