1. I a willing to commish to nobody else can. However I am currently the commish of 2 other keeper leagues and 1 other annual league. I may be stretched thin. So if somebody else would like to do it, please step up!

2. I will post in the baseball forums for a new manager.

Rev sorry about the job but congratz on the health. Glad to hear it. :)

Hey guys...

I have too many OF's and prospect level pitchersthat I want to keep. If anyone wants to make a move for:

Matt Holliday, Jason Bay, or Alex Rios, or Nelson Cruz for that matter.

or

Clayton Kershaw or Max Scherzer, or even Brett Myers, send me an email

I would be very interested in joining the league if you haven't filled the spot yet.

I actually came over to this area looking for a keeper league with an opening.

I've been a very active member of the Political Gurupies keeper league since it's inception 5-6 years ago and was the original commish.

PD, Tree, wiggs all can attest that I am a competitive and active manager.

I would really appreciate the opportunity.

Updated rules for 2009

1. Number of keepers= 7
2. Positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF-4, Util, SP-2, RP-2, P-4, Bench-7, DL-1
3. Maximum innings pitched= 1350
4. Stat categories= R, HR, RBI, Number SB, AVG, W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP
5. 7-Keepers declared by Jan 31
6. 3 Prospects declared by last day of February
7. Regular Draft:
a.Draft order inverse order of previous years standings
b. Nonsnake
c. Prospects may be drafted in the regular draft
d. If a drafted player is not found in the Yahoo! data base you will have an empty slot that must be left empty to retain ownership of drafted player.
e. During the draft you are personally responsible to be sure a player you draft is not a keeper prospect. If this occurs and it is not caught before others draft you must take a player that remains on the draft board.
f. Any prospect from a team's keeper list that is drafted to a team's regular roster during the regular draft and BEFORE the prospect draft may be replaced during the prospect draft.
8. Prospect draft:
a. The prospect draft shall commence the day after the conclusion of the regular draft.
b. Snake Draft
c. Inverse order of previous year’s standings
9. Prospects:
a. Less than 300 Abs
b. Less than 150 Innings pitched
c. May be kept for up to 3 years, then must be dropped or added to 7-keeper list
d. If a prospect is called up to the majors and you place him on your 25-man roster, he loses his prospect tag, and he may not be replaced by another prospect until next years draft.
e. When the "prospect" goes over the agreed to limit, he may stay as one of your three prospects during the current season, BUT the prospect may not be switched back and forth between 25-man roster and prospect roster. Once he is placed on your 25-man roster he is treated just like any other player.
f. When the season is done in which a prospect exceeds the limits, and you desire to continue to hold that "prospect" he must be held as 1 of your 7 keepers.

i am giving myself a penalty. i am awarding myself Barilko's first three draft picks, in exchange for my last three. the punishment is that i have to listen to Barilko complain.

Tim Lincecum, SP, SF
Francisco Rodriguez, RP, NYM
Mark Teixeira, 1B, NYY
Josh Hamilton, OF, Tex
Nick Markakis, OF, Balt
Dustin Pedroia, 2B, Bos
Chris Davis, 3B, Tex

i'm not sure about the Davis keeper, but i've got a big man crush on his ability to hit the long ball.

also keeping prospects:
Rick Porcello, SP, Det
Fernando Martinez, OF, NYM

also - let's further discuss this "3 year rule" on keepers? seems like it's a rule ready to be banished...

I have requested the draft be set up on Kafenatid.net. I am just waiting for the confirmation email to come thru. Keep the following in mind:

Roster Positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL

Stat Categories: R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP

This comes out to a 25 man roster. We are keeping 7, so there are 18 rounds of the draft.

As for eliminating the 3 year rule on prospects, the motion seemed to have enough support in a few emails, so lets bring it to a vote:

All in favor of eliminating the 3 year prospect rule (starting in 2010, it would still apply to this years prospects)? Just vote yes or no. :)

Hopefully this league has a mercy rule, that you can switch a keeper before the draft for extraordinary circumstances...like missing the season with elbow surgery.

I just Read Sheets is having surgery and will be out for most of the season and Wiggs has him as a keeper.

Ben Sheets went from a two-year deal with the Rangers to surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his elbow. Although there are some reports that he could pitch in the second half of the season, it's more likely that he'll miss most of the season and try to hook on with a team for the 2010 season. ESPN

Mercy rule?

As for mercy,,,, thats the part of what makes keeper leagues and drafting so early hard. If it was TREE I would say NO! But since its Wiggs Im fine with it.

1. Eliminating 3 year prospect rule-yes but only if it goes into effect for the 2010 draft. Just don't like the idea of changing a rule and making it effective for the same year.

2. Mercy rule, start of being devil's advocate for a moment-Sheets health has been an issue for his whole career, and even last November I saw reports where surgery was a possibility (agent said no-but hey he was a free agent.) Wiggs' original post of keepers on 2/4 only listed 6 and no Sheets then on 2/5 the reports came out that Sheets needed surgery, then on 2/10 7-keepers posted with Sheets. Now the unmerciful side of me says next time do your homework. end of being devil's advocate

Now in that we are a league that plays for fun and pride and in that it changes nothing in the draft I have no problem with changing out Sheets.

Rev :)

Just to defend myself- which I know doesnt really matter and if I have to keep sheets I will- When I realized I didnt repost my keepers after being told it was 7 I quickly reposted them the way I had originally planned on 2/4. If I need to keep sheets no big deal.

I have no problem with letting Wiggs resubmit a new keeper in place of sheets. I'm just worried about setting a bad precedent.

How about this: Keepers have due date of X. Theyare due. Adjustments can be made up to the point that they are inputted into the draft at kafenatid. Adjustments can only be made for extenuating circumstances.

Wiggs with Sheets would be an extenuating circumstance. Me wth Chase Utley would be tough luck. When I declared I knew he was injured and out for an unknown amount of time (just an example).

I have no problem with switching out Sheets. If my "devil's advocate" jab offended you I apologize as that was not my intent.

We've been in this league together since it began, and it has always been about having fun--no money, no real life consequences (well except me seeing the rest of the league from the bottom)so changing out Sheets at this point doesn't do harm to anyone.

Our draft will officially begin on Thursday March 5 at 8am. There will be a 4 hour window to pick and the clock will run between 8 am and 11pm EST.

The draft will open on Monday but the clock will not run until Thursday. If you are up before the clock starts and ready to go, feel free to pick. If you are not ready to go, that is ok. The time between now and the official start time is to give people a chance to enter que's, check their charts etc. Do NOT pressure anybody to pick before the clock runs.

So hears the deal.

I've been watching the draft the last few hours, but my turn hasn't come up and I know we aren't started yet, but I still want to give everyone heads up.

I am in Dubai and it's 12:30 AM here (3:30 PM EST) and I am headed to bed and won't be picking for 7+ hours. Had my turn come up the last few hours I would have picked. I just don't want to leave anyone hanging should my turn come up.

Once the draft starts I will set my que so someone could pick for me.

By the way...how do I do that (i.e. allow others to access my que)?

I'm not going to pick until tomorrow AM at the earliest, so you don't have to keep watching!

You should designate someone as a "designated picker" and they'll be able to take the top person in your queue. You can make your queue available or not as needed.

Quick question about Kafe.

If you designate a picker, can they see your que at any time? Or does it only open when it is your pick?

Also can they see your entire que? Or only the next choice in line?

Thanks

My big downfall last year.....power stats. vlad may not be the 40/40 threat he used to be, but he should at least be .280-.290 BA, 30 HR and 100RBi's.

I about crapped myself when I saw he was in the FA market. Then I realized he wouldn't fall to me.

Heck, when I saw peavy in the FA market, I froze th draft to make sure I hadn't made a mistake. But the manager just decided to go a different route w/ some younger prospects.

Nerve- 2 things about it-

1) I was in the middle of a major crisis at work- a bunch of kids started a riot in the school and we were forced to take some to the police station to file papers. I did not have my sheets- so when I got the offer I took it before even realizing who was picked. Bad Choice.

2) I really thought that greg would take brad lidge, then I would be able to pick up a free pick in round 2 for nothing and still get my guy. Bad Choice :)

I think for the most part people are attentive. I would say most leave a queue if they know they will be away for an extended period of time. You should expect minimum of 1 pick a day. Usually 2.

Draft:
Looking at the last 3 years we have averaged (in hours) 3:19, 1:19, and 2:45 per pick. We have never had a problem with the clock running out on a manager and the few times it has happened there were circumstances out of the managers control that caused it. And yes these guys generally leave their queues full and available.

If I recall right one year we never got the clock started because we had finished the draft.

As for Peavy, yea I made the call to go with King Felix and Gallardo.

Sorry Allhair. I saw the pick up there last night and left it. I try not to just breeze thru que picks as fast as possible. Just bad timing this morning.

I would not have normally made it on the weekend with no clock since you didn't really leave instructions. For some reason I was thinking of nerveclinic's post stating his que was good for round 13 and got confused on who I was picking for.

I will let you repick that spot as long as its not figgins or hawpe you wanted. They were chosen in good faith. But I also don't want my confusion over who's que is posted as 'usable' to screw up a draft. Go ahead and email me or post who you want that pick to be.

I would also be entertaining offers on A-Rod. Of course he is a fantasy star, but my team is built to win this year, and without knowing how long he will be out, I might be interested in moving him.

I could get totally screwed by moving him similar to Tree with Pujols last year, but once again I am aiming for this year.

This is not a fire sale, I would expect a nice return for him, but definitely not as much as I would if he would be expected to play all year.

Since he is starting this year I didn't want to take a chance of losing him in the prospect draft. This seemed like a bet worth the risk given the 25 bench spots we have. I've but a number of players on who are high risk high reward types.

Above (post 197) and on the yahoo board is the prospect list of protected players. Please check it before grabbing ANYBODY off of waivers/FA pool. I've decided there needs to be 'encouragement' to do so this year. If you take a protected player that is not your own, you lose a spot in the waiver priority (and if you used your waiver priority to pick that player up, you are just stuck w/ the last spot now).
If you use actually use that player in a game, you get your waiver priority set to 11. As in years past we will recalculate categories and points from an illegal roster.

Total BS! Lose spot? Yea I get up in AM check FA and here is this guy knocking the cover off the ball and Im suppose to rememeber in one of my 75 leagues that I have a protected prospect list? How about next year we add a team that just has protected players on it so we cant pick them up.

How about a vote before you just start making LAWS?

203Khahan
      ID: 486552412
      Sun, Mar 22, 2009, 15:19
golf, we've discussed the idea of a prospect only team before, but that has its drawbacks, too. If you want to get a guy you then have to wait for me to make the moves. If I'm not around (on vacation for example) you don't have access to your prospect.

The problem I see is that the last 2 years we've had multiple incidents each year of people picking up another guys player. I've been guilty of it, too. I think we all have. One year, we even had a change in standings because of re-working some teams final points to remove stats they should not have accumulated. Its a lot of work and confusion for everybody.

I'm willing to put it up to a vote, simple majority to pass it. but I feel strongly there should be some detterrent or some kind of sanction for taking a protected prospect. Most of us have multiple leagues and it can get very confusing for any one of us. We almost all have the same problem and all would have the same rules to go by.

I'm also willing to give the prospects a trade off. If your prospect is added to the database (meaning he's on waivers) and you want him, it would not cost you a waiver spot to get him. Just notify me BEFORE you pick him up and I'll make the switch.
204wazaaap_guy

Not sure how avidly people use the Watch list, but simply putting all prospects already in the database on the watch list could be some sort of deterrent. You wouldn't necessarily have to stop using the list for guys you are thinking of picking up... at the least you might pause and think before selecting a guy with the blue flag next to his name.

WG, that is a great idea. I just got done adding all the players in the database to my watch list.

However, I would still like a yes/no vote from everybody on this issue. Do we institute a waiver sanction when you pick up a protected prospect that is not yours.

Be careful with any punitive rules. The league is suppose to be fun and if keeping an eye on prospects becomes an "extra burden" it may make some managers decide it's not worth it and walk away(this happened the first year of prospects). Also picking up of prospects has not been that big of a deal 2-3 x's a year, and frankly it's not done on purpose. Hence I don't believe a punitive measure is warranted

The three best options have already been mentioned, and I list them in my preference:

1) As we have done in the past, khahan has done again and that is post the prospects on the front page-this actually works pretty good.

2) Flag all prospects as mentioned by WG. If done in conjunction with #1 may actually eliminate our problem.

3) Set up a ghost team-would not effect the standings because the team would score zero's and finish last-yes the down side is a player may not be able to be activated immediately, but it beats the headache of a manager picking up a prospect.

I vote no to the proposed penalty.

I like Khahan's offer to add a prospect on waivers without a loss of priority (although I doubt it actually occurs).

I agree with Rev in 208.

I'm fine with utilizing 1 & 2 or going with option 3.

Actually I think I prefer #3. It's the most fool-proof choice and any possible delay in picking up prospects in option 3 really wouldn't be the end of the world. If you go on a sizable vacation you could always transfer the commissionershiphood to someone else while you were away...

Against any penalty: GF, myself, allhair,

Seem to be against a penalty: wg, barilko, unemployed

That's over half the league and yet today I look at Yahoo and read "I've decided there needs to be 'encouragement'[penalty] to do so this year."

Perhaps there's a new math out there I don't know about, but it seems that half the league wants to try something short of a penalty before we beginning implementing dictatorially a new penalty.

Just my 2 cents

uh, no...Yahoo has it dated 9:01 A.M. March 29

"Below is the prospect list of protected players. As in years past we will recalculate categories and points from an illegal roster."

I just found that one of my prospects, Michel Inoa has been sidelined with an elbow problem. At 16 this doesn't bode well (the guy is 6'7" at age 16, so he's a freakish physical specimen anyway).

More to the point, he now seems to be going by the name Michel Ynoa. He's not in Yahoo under either name, but I thought I should note it here anyway.

Beltran to the DL list to hang out with Carlos Quentin. Jake Peavy likely out for the season.

You wanna talk DL? Look at my team. And keep in mind the players who are finally off the DL. No, Im taking it easy this year. Setting expectations to be invisible next year and then I'll put a healthy squad on the table to compete.

Who would have thought that a team with Chase Utley, Hanley Ramirez, Vlad, Grady Sizemore, and BJ Upton would be dead last with no hope in sight of climbing out of the hole.

Add Kevin Slowey to the DL list...

Beltran, Quentin, Slowey and Peavy. 3 were among my 7 keepers.

At least your studs are intack. Why are you in last Khahan?

Escobar was DL during the draft and an injury concern.

Meyers, Kelly Johnson and Delgado are hardly enough to destroy a team. Johnson has been on waivers in our 14 team keeper league for a month.

Aramis is a big problem. But other wise you have the incredible list of keepers playing, why last place?

Uhh nerve, my DL guys this season have included:
Aramis Ramirez, Grady Sizemore and Vladimir Guerrero for starters. Add in Delgado who was my starting 1st baseman. BJ Upton, Myers, Capps/Ryan and Kazmir. Thats 3/4 of my OF, my starting 1st and 3rd basemen, 100% of my closers and all but 2 of my starters.

Also Gordon, my back up 3rd baseman (and expected break out), Kelly Johnson my back up 2nd baseman and projected pre-injury to 15/15/.300. I have yet to field my whole team this year. Right now, what you see with K Escobar, Myers, Delgado and A. Ramirz on the DL is the closest I've come to fielding all my starting players.

About three weeks ago I offered Ricky Nolasco to about half the teams in this league and got no bites.

I am thankful for that now that he has given up only 7 ER in his last 5 games.

I think if my hitters can start doing their part I can sneak out a repeat win in this league.

Now that we have everyone on board...

Here's the plan:
7 Keepers and the Prospects that you're keeping are due by 11:59 PM Feb 26(as time stamped on this board)

Draft will begin on kafinated on March 1st (as long as everyone is ok with it)

Prospect draft will begin the day after the regular draft concludes (here on the board)

will post draft results on Yahoo (hopefully within one week of conclusion of draft)

Time now to trade away and plan how to make my fantasy life miserable once again :)

If he got called up last year by the old manager, it's just an administrative slip up that I did not remove him from the prospect list...in accordance with the rules, once a prospect is called up he loses his prospect tag...sorry for the confusion.

Just got up and noticed that the draft pauses were not set per the league set-up...my fault for not checking closer

Nerve still has the first pick of the draft, and no one for that matter has drafted in the 8th round.

Goldcoach, please do not make a selection, it is is still Nerves turn.

I'll contact Fred and see if he can reset the draft back to pick 8.1

Nerve, if you set your queue in the morning I can make your pick and start the draft clock.

It is probably best to make the person before and after you a designated picker. I believe that you can set your queue so that only the first player is visible.

If you desire that a certain player/position be taken in a round probably best to communicate that only to the manager drafting after you...note the commish is a designated picker for all managers

Nerve did make his pick (Cliff Lee) but it does not show up on the draft home page...

Picks 8.02 & 8.03 have already timed out in the first 45 minutes of the draft (the clock really is set for a 6 hour time limit on picks)

I'll email ya once it gets resolved.

Guys, I know its only the first round but I ask, plead with you to both fill your queues up and make then available.

My normal procedure, unless a manager has instructed others wise, is to draft the first player showing in your queue as soon as I get the email from Kafinated.
