Subject: RIBC AAA PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE - THREAD #1

league as well, and email the sign up info.
The draft will be launched on Monday March 9, with no clock for the first week. The 6 hour clock will
go into effect on Monday morning March 16.

my vote: ESPN
reasons:
- G20 Hoops is using ESPN and since I joined a few weeks ago I had no problems
- free live scoring
- play pickups on the same day as long as the 1st game of the day hasn't started.
- I don't think that the overall max game limit may get exploited. I haven't seen a team that got near the max in games at more than 2 positions. I was close last year and played really hard to get there.

I prefer ESPN. My company blocks yahoo fantasy sports and the free live scoring that ESPN provides is excellent. Boo to stattracker $$$.

I would like to have this feature:
play pickups on the same day as long as the 1st game of the day hasn't started.
I understand Yahoo can now do this. I would even be willing to switch to the International League if they have this feature and we do not.
I'm in a Yahoo Plus league already, so i would prefer Yahoo, I guess. But i would prefer the same day pickup feature more.

It looks like the feature where you can pick up a player the same day of the game is only available in a Plus league at Yahoo. Even then, I can't find much about it.
So I'm going to go with ESPN.

The thing for me as commish is that I would like someone in RIBC to already be familiar with the ESPN site
so questions could be answered. As it stands now, it looks like AA and maybe INTL will try ESPN with RIBC

on...

Ok the draft order is all set up on Kafenatid.
This message repeats much of what is in the email:
Timed draft will start on Monday March 16 at 6 am (although I will probably hit the
button before I go to bed Sunday night). You will have 6 hours to pick. The draft will be timed
from 6 am to midnight EDT. There will be a weekend pause in effect.
NOTE: We can also choose to keep going over the weekends...
The untimed draft is set to begin this Monday, March 9th -- again probably starting
at bedtime Sunday...
HOWEVER, I can turn it on at any time. For me, I have my round 1 list all set from 1 -
8, so I am ready... after that, well, we'll see where I go...
Chime in here as to your preference for when you want me to hit the the untimed draft
start button!

I'd have been ready, as I was using some downtime to prep when I
lost power for about 24 hours. Survived with gas logs and vodka,
but now I'm behind in my research with little free time through
the weekend.
Figures.... I'm moving to a house with a backup generator in about
a month or so.

Don't want to put too much pressure on folks just yet...
As a courtesy once we do start, if you do not plan to pick for a designated time (ie., in
meetings all day, not ready, away for the day, out for dinner back around 9), please post here with an
approximate pick time (if you know it) so that those of us eager beavers who are waiting (like MattG at
#14...) don't keep running to the computer to check every hour or so. The messages in #80 and 83 are
perfect examples of this courtesy!
Of course, once we get rolling, the Q and DP systems should be used!

Good thing we all got the news about A-Rod before we drafted -- I feel sorry for the keeper league
folks. I think it is the same injury/surgery that Utley had. It killed the second half of his season.

Now that we are into our draft it is time to review the DRAFT COURTESIES that are expected of you.
They are more relevant for the timed part, but I thought I would send them out now.
1) If you will take a long time to draft, put a note in the thread:
"Not picking until 6 pm EDT."
"In a meeting all morning, need to wait to see who else is picked."
"Left a Q; if it is gone, I'll be back around 9 PM EDT."
Messages like that keep everyone cool and relaxed.
2) Use the Q system. Try to leave at least one round worth in your Q.
3) Use the designated picker (DP) tool in Kafenatid. If you have special instructions ("Q good for
round #5 ONLY."), please put that into the thread or in an email to your DP'r.

season. During the draft it may seem "pushy" but we need to keep it moving!

The big problem I see is that the "traditional" way of drafting is
that player ratings are based on past performance and future
expectectations.
Which does not guarentee future results.
I'm trying a twist in my draft strategy also, this year.
Looks like it's to draft as many Texas Rangers as possible. I'm

Chipper is solid in leagues where replacements are easy to come by. In deep leagues his value drops since his replacement for the games he misses is going to be very far below average. With his %'s, if he ends up playing 130+ he should be a good pick.

the Oswalt pick was a tough one. I looked at a specific hitter too, but was much more comfortable with him.
whats up with rationales? I usually write them before posting my pick because this is a good way to think about what I am doing. that said, I haven't written anything this year, so I already know why my team will underperform.

AAA managers are expected to do round by round rationales which are then reposted neatly into
a thread so all can read. It is a lot of work for you and the reposters, so how about this suggestion?
Every 5 rounds, you summarize your picks in any way you want and put it into one thread
entry. The limitations of course would be that you cannot mention any player not yet picked.
Does that sound more reasonable and doable? Let me know and I'll start up a new thread and be the
first entry so you can see what is might look like.

That 4/5 finish date isn't correct. That is taking into account the average pick time since Judy turned on the draft.
The reality is we've been averaging 20+ picks per day since Monday.
We've got 288 picks left, at 20 per day, we'll finish two weeks from today --March 27th.
To finish by 3/30/09, which should probably be our target date, we need to average 17 picks per day.

Judy the draft was turned on Wednesday, but we didn't really start drafting until Monday. That time from Wednesday to Monday counts in the average. So pretty much whatever we do, the average that you see is going come down.
Like I said, we should really target 3/30 to finish. As Commish you're going to want one week to get the drafted loaded, have everyone check it, run waivers, etc...

I watched that AMAZING game last night Correction, this morning, both teams were just exhausted, Harris from Cuse was so tired he couldn't dunk he missed so many close shots.
I think we will see syracuse win today too, they run a 2/3 zone so their players don't get tired on defense... It's what let carmello and company win in 2003 i think.... and Gerry McNamara and co go on a nice run like 3 years ago... It comes in handy when you play a lot of games in a short amount of time.

I can only hope that Branyan fills a nice hole at CI because he should be eligible at 1B soon.
and btw, Dickerson was #2 on my list for round #20. I thought between him and Juan Cruz and decided to take the RP, only to see Dickerson on top of your queue. I hoped I picked him instead.
I am now down to 9 draftable hitters. I don't know yet if I need any more, but I made a list 2 days ago. it was 20 man long back then. the problem with all the hitters is always their playing time.

yeah -- I belatedly discovered the depth charts (I always check them for RIFC, but didn't know
where to look for RIBC... and that's my excuse and I am sticking to it!) -- and that is why I chose
Tracy, as I desperately needed a 1B backup for Huff. Branyan does have power though and is
penciled in as a 1B platooner.
Ya took cruz off my list too -- although at #20 I needed to prop up my OF a bit.
I am not sure just what I need now, but the list of decent players is sure getting short! I make a
nice Q list and people just plain STEAL them away! There oughtta be a law!

Judy, What I've done in the past when a player is not in the yahoo database is give them a placeholder that no one would want and require that as long as they keep that player on their roster until the player is drafted, they have rights to them. If they drop the placeholder, they lose the rights to their drafted player and they enter waivers as normal. In this case, as long as the manager keeps the garbage player on their roster, when Cordero enters waivers, send out a note that no one can claim him and the manager that drafts him can make the swap at that point.

Yahoooooooooooooooo needs to get its act together on the eligible players.
Andrus, the starting SS for TEX is listed as NA.
And then there is poor Cordero who is not listed at all...
Anyone else with inconsistencies/
