Subject: cant access hdd?

I have a 300gb hdd that i copied all of my info to. I then reinstalled windows xp pro. Now i cant read any of that info on the back up hdd. It says access denied when i try to open a folder inside it. All i want to do is copy the info back.
Any help would be great!

Right click on the drive and then go to security. Click Advanced and go to ownership and take ownership of that and check the box to take ownership of subfolders.
