Ok, status update:

I have just sent invitations to Ref and MUHAHOS. Sorry I missed you earlier Ref...I think I misread your post or grouped you with Jeff as "uninterested". Judy has not accepted his invitation yet, so...we aren't quite full yet. I got an email from Holt and he or his brother would still be willing to join to fill the league. I will be able to get on again in about 13 hours. Ideally we can start picking the draft order by then; I have received the two sets of numbers already.

Also, McWell, Botkin, and the three people with pending invites still need to register on Kafenatid. I can ensure Botkin will be registered, but the I'd ask the others to please do so as soon as possible. The registration info is available on the league message board.

That's it for now, I'll check back in about 13 hours.

I'm in. I've got to leave for a few hours. When I get back, I'll help find people to fill the league so it's full by tonight. I haven't read the rules yet so need to figure those out as well. Not sure how long it will take to draft but probably need to get going soon to get it done in time.

We might want to consider forgoing the choice of draft positions and just have the draft order assigned by the commish via the random number generator mentioned in post 45 or by the random numbers already sent to the commish. Or maybe a combination of the two. My point being that I don't think we have time to spend 2 or 3 days just determining the draft order.

Per the RIFC 2006: preseason discussion thread post #198, quoting Guru, "Last year, we started the draft on August 17 and finished on Sept. 1st. I did not activate the clock until August 19th, but I am planning to activate it at the start of the draft (i.e., August 15th) this year, since we have 3 extra rounds to complete." That's 16 days for the RIFC. If we start tomorrow, we'll only have 17 days until the season begins. Plus the commish needs time to load the teams onto AOL. I have serious doubt that any AA league can complete a 14 team draft of 24 rounds as fast than they can.

Guru, or anyone else monitoring this thread, would it be a problem if in the interest of getting our draft started and completed on time, our commish could randomly assign the draft order? Any recommendations?

For the draft order - I have now generated a list of names using the two sets of random numbers sent to me. If we decide not to choose draft positions then we can use this list for the draft order, otherwise it will be the order we choose positions.

I was going to hold off posting the list until everyone registers for the draft room, which I will take to be a confirmation of participation.

Any more opinions on starting the draft with a random draft order, or on anything else for that matter?

I vote to let the commish randomly set the draft order in order to try to start the draft ASAP, but I'm also interested in hearing from the rest of the league on this issue.

We're running out of time for a slow draft that starts the season on time.

Once this draft starts, I'm available to call people on the phone who have limited access. I can alert you that you're up and update the previous picks.

Let's get this done people.

as an innocent bystander, I suggest randomly selecting draft order. you're really gonna be pinched for time. first game is sept. 6 I believe.
you may even want to go with 4 hr picks rather than 6 hr picks.

GL, hope everything goes smoothly (if someone goes awol early, i suggest that rather than skip their picks, you just boot them and find someone to replace them).

There is also the Que and designated pickers that can speed things tremendously.

We'll need to get together at least once this week to knock out a few rounds in one evening. Either live or by que, we need to make a serious move this week.

Again, I'm willing to call people when it's their turn with updates, as needed.

I don't think we have to get together. Every draft I've been in on here people worry it's not going to get done in time. We got a fair bit of time and if we get things started today with the four hour limit we'll be fine.

Just my opinion though

It looks like we have 14 in AOL. Can't tell about Kafenatid. I vote for random draft selection from Commissioner or Guru, not enough time otherwise IMO. Please use queues in Kafenatid, if you're going to be away. And designate pickers for you. I should be around most of the draft, if anybody wants to designate me.

Still only 11 registered on Kafenatid. I think I'm going to email Holt and see if he and his brother will still join to replace two of the 3 who haven't signed up for Kafenatid. I hate to bump people, but I really don't think it was asking too much to register for the draft room when you registered for the league...

So, I guess what I'm saying is if it gets to the point where one person signs up on Kafenatid and we are stuck waiting for the other two, I'll ask Holt and his brother to fill the two slots instead. If there are any objections to this let me know.

It sounds like most are in favor of random draft order, so we will go with that. I will generate it with the two sets of random numbers I already have.

I never got the info to get into kafenatid so perhaps these people didn't either. Someone emailed me last night with the info after I posted.

Perhaps we can get the exact settings from a AAA league so our settings are exactly the same as far as rules go?

I believe the settings are the same as AAA and RIFC...unless you noticed a discrepency?

How does return yards work? Say I have the Dallas defense and T. Owens returns a punt for a TD. Does the Dallas def. get those points. Does the guy that owns T.O. get those points. Do both get them?

It should be set up so only offensive players score for return stats.

So if I have a DB that returns punts, he will not get points for those? Also, my team Def will not get points for those? The rules are not very clear, but it would be useful to know before the draft.

It says "offensive players" in the rules. I think it is clear, however if I set it up incorrectly let me know. I think I followed the RIFC settings though.

I am under the impression that aol and fanball have slightly different rule allowances. As long as the RIFC aa/aaa leagues are using the same rules I think we're fine. I think they are pretty close to the same as rifc if I read it right.

I was already a member at Kef too but you ahve to sign up for the individual league, which requires you to have the league ID and pword sent to you.

Now I remember.....return guys, whether a WR or a DB are considered an offensive player when said player has the ball. On an INT or fumble recovery, both the individual player and team D score points. (see pages 8 and 9 in the link)

Ref, AA and AAA leagues use RIFC rules and should mirror the RIFC as close as possible. At least, that's my understanding.

Mine too. But my impression is that Fanball and AOL are close but not exact replicas. RIFC uses Fanball, the other leagues use AOL.

aol and fanball use the same engine. some of the rules are pretty tricky to set up. best to refer to guru's setup when doing it (link in post 23 up above).

IDP's do get points for punt and kick returns (yds and td's). team D's got credit for return TD's last year but I don't know if they do anymore. that may have been a rule change this season.

Ok, we are up to 13 in Kafenatid now. We are still missing MCWELL. Holt and his brother would only fill in if they could both join, so we either need one more person or we need McWell to join I think.

My internet access will not be regular for the rest of this week. I will get on whenever I can, hopefully daily, but there's no way I can sit here and watch the message board like I have been...just an FYI. mjd has offered to help me administer the draft though, so hopefully things will move relatively smoothly once we get this last guy registered.

Alright folks, I just sent the info to #14. The clock will start at 7AM tomorrow, but picks can be made as soon as I post the draft order. As soon as the last person signs up for Kafenatid, I will randomly set the draft order via Kafenatid.

From this point on, all draft discussion should be posted here

That's also where I'll post the draft order. Remember to use the que system and good draft etequette. Also, don't forget to assign a designated picker or two. I'll be around most of the time if you want me to be a DP.
