Reminders:
Records and all stats will continue to accure for every team that plays a game for the next three weeks. However, the Regular Season Placements for next year's Draft and lottery for teams 9-24 are final now. I will be moving them to the rules page. No matter how well or poorly you play in the consolation games, you will maintain your draft position.
For top 8 teams all stats will count but it all comes down to wins and losses and the draft will take these games into account. The records mean nothing now that we have seeded the teams.
No DHs in the playoffs.

See post #47 if anyone needs clarification on the freeze for adding/dropping players.
I am reversing the last move made by the Eagles. Sorry if there is confusion.

no problem Roy, I realized that was probably what happened when I saw that the leage settings were set correctly to no add-drops, but it must not be smart enough to stop a waiver claim submitted prior to that.

Seven teams in the NFC beat the 'top' team in the AFC in Ref in overall points. The NFC South was tough, but the NFC north only had one team score below 2400 pts. CT and THK bring home some hardware.

Why do we freeze add/drops for playoff teams? Most leagues I'm in at least allow "reversible" add/drops... that is, your roster reverts to what it was at the freeze date once the playoffs end. One league goes so far as to only allow transactions for non-QB/RB/WR type players. The point being that most teams can't afford to carry many (if any) backups at K, TE, IDP... especially with keeper considerations in play. But if you have a player get injured at one of these positions, you can't replace him? *shrug* I'd like to propose this now as a rule change for next year:
Rosters freeze at end of regular season... however teams may continue to make transactions as long as they are still in contention for the league title. At the end of the playoffs, all teams rosters will revert to the "frozen" end-of-regular-season roster.

Doug, that has always been the rule. The original philosophy was that in order for a player to be used in the playoffs you had to have him on your team for at least the last game of the regular season.
I think we posted something in the last week or so about some of the ideas flowing for next year. Adding IDPs to our league created some ramifications--esp. when it comes to the playoffs that no one apparently anticipated.
First: We added 4 active IDPs and one bench slot. The prevailing thought seemed to be that too many bench spots and people hoard offensive players. The popular thought also was too many IDPs and there would be a pure crapshoot of player scoring.
My observations: With the depth of our league on offense, one could easily pluck nice IDPs off the FA wire every week. The IDPs did not share our offensive issues at finding talent. This was brought up before our vote. If we add anymore IDPs, we're going to have to add a bench spot. Then there goes the hoarding again. (This did in fact occur as a few teams chose to leave a bye week/injured player active and have a 3rd or 4th string qb/rb/wr than replace their IDP.) Therefore we may want to keep it the same or add two IDPs if we have to add a bench spot. Some of these issues have been also been shared with me, but I'm speaking for myself here. I'm fine with leaving them as they are--we jsut need to figure out if that is best. I'd like to find something that works and leave it there.
Second--Playoffs...with limited bench slots and all the actives--it's impossible to cover all of your players should an injury occur after the playoff FA freeze. I told Cards that we are going to have to propose something next year to fix this. He agreed. At first I said we should allow free pickups of IDP players, but anyone you pickup cannot be kept. I then added that because of our intentionally short benches that perhaps all non key players (QB/RB/WR) should be allowd to be picked up. I am not sure about DSTs at this point. He agreed. I then said that probably only the top 8 should be allowed to pickup players and again, no one allowed to be kept. He agreed.
Now what Doug is proposing is similar--though I've not played in a keeper league before that allowed you to make roster adjustments in the playoffs. It's inherently not fair to the non-playoff teams if you're allowed to keep them. I was thinking that whomever you dropped, you'd lose them too--but Doug's post about reverting might be a better proposal. Might even be more strategic to lsoe them both? Not sure.
Bottom line is that no one thought about (or at least mentioned) the impact of the IDPs on the playoff rosters in case of injuries which occured during or after week 13 games. GO proposed that everyone have the ability to make pickups in the playoffs ongoing, but then he withdrew it after people talked about the issues with that. I agree with Doug that this rule needs to be modified, regardless of the number of IDPs we use next year.
For my team, I added another IDP just in case and wanted to add one more and had the player in my queue to be added, but just couldn't pull the trigger to drop anyone. I just hope that there are no new injuries that hurt any of the top 8 teams this year. Hopefully for next year the league can come up with a rule just in case.

Looking at the last two years, I faced BJ's Rams in week 14 both times and beat BJ's Rams by 3pts both times. Hoping for more of the same this year.

It's playoff time--so some interesting tidbits I just noticed as we start...
The Bills franchise is the only one to never make it past week 14. That also means that the Bills have never made it to the Super Bowl where you're guaranteed three games.
The Rams and the Bears are the only two franchises to play in week 16 every single season. We know the Rams just barely kept that streak alive (Eagles lost a game by .08 so there's the difference). Neither team has always made teh playoffs but they've been able to win in the consolation bowls in weeks 14 and 15 when they didn't make it.

Benching Selvin Young wasn't the brightest move. I had 3 to choose from at flex and pick the one that scores the least. Romo comes back strong and Chester Taylor busts a long run to sink my chances. Dilfer with his negative points isn't helping either.

Wow - I need to fall asleep on the couch more often (or so I'll try to convince my wife). I fell asleep down 25 to 'Cards and wake up ahead by 10. I'd be a little surprised if Dilfer came out for the second half - he took a nasty hit to the head right at the end of 2Q.

Congrats BJ21 and good luck in the playoffs. My team just didn't show up today. Hard to take getting knocked out in the first round after having such a good season but that's what happens. Garcia out and then Dilfer knocked out, Brown left with an injury, Wilkins missing a FG, Shockey doing nothing, TO held to 2 points, it all adds up to one of my worst outputs of the year.

I saw something that was interesting. My LB Keiaho intercepted a pass but it was on a PAT try for 2. I didn't get credit for it. It makes perfect sense as the try is either good or no good.

Ref, what if that was returned to the other end zone?
Any score for that in this league? In the NFL it's worth what, one point?
Not a common occurrence, but it does happen once in a blue moon.

In NCAA it would have counted as an INT and a 2 pointer, but in the NFL the play is over when it is turned over. You can't run it back for points.

2 points in college, whistled dead in the NFL.
I remember that play when a team scored to go up 1 point in college with like 10 seconds left... then they went for 2 to make it a 3 point lead. Seems logical. Except it got picked and they went the other way... they lost by 1 point! lol...

Grats to the Bills for winning their first ever postseason game. The Bears loss means for the first time they will not be playing in all 16 weeks. The Rams will now be the only franchise to do that as they have a guaranteed three games in the playoffs.

Discussed a bit earlier, thought I would reiterate... I really think we should look at adding two more teams on each side and awarding bye weeks to the top 2 seeds (or division winners?) in each conference. I believe that would put an premium on winning your division and being rewarded with a bye.
It drives me insane (in other leagues) to watch a #1 get knocked off by a #8 seed cause the #8 got hot at the end of the season or had a lucky week. To me it makes the regular season pointless. Now I know we have 24 teams and divisions etc so the breakdown is different, but something worth looking at (if hasn't been already).
Is that something that was considered when the league was set up I assume? I know I came late to the party...

It's simply an impossibility because we throw week 17 out. We'd have to have our championship in week 17 or end our reg, season in week 12. No one wants to have the championship game feature several players resting.

Also we have #1 vs #4s in our div. games. Typically our playof teams are bunched up pretty well. For instance, even though #4 Rams beat #1 49ers, Rams is a quality team who could easily win it all. Just like the NFL, if you make the playoffs, you have a chance to win it all. Also, even though the #2 Raiders were beaten by the #3 Ravens, statistically it was not an upset at all--but he got the automatic #2 for winning the West.

Spotting my opponent nearly 20 points before my guys go today is problematic. Add to the mix all of the injuries and uncertainties and I'll be holding my breath for awhile. Really hope I score a lot today so it doesn't come down to needing a big game from Berrian tomorrow.

Well I feel very lucky to be playing for the championship. Who would've known?!?! Certainly not me. Fargas hasn't been horrible, but certinaly hasn't helped me and now he reportedly has a sprained ligament and it appears that Rhodes will be starting next week. Oh great. Another wasted trade. Betts has been on my bench the past two wees and of course he scored a TD each week...his first two of the year. Now that I'll have to start him again, he'll prob be back to his old ways.
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth. My team overall has been incredibly consistent. Not that my players really have been, but each week it seems different players step up and do well for me--while others go in the tank. So while I won't have many high scores, you'll usually need a good week to beat me. In fact, a good week will likely beat me. Barring negative games from bj's remaining two players, it looks like the only team to beat me from the NFC South (and just BARELY beat me at that) will be my opponent next week.

Assuming I make it through tonight (would certainly take something crazy not to), I can't believe my collection of scrubs made it to the final. Pretty weird year in fantasy football - it's always a crapshoot, but seemed even more so this year. I guess I was fairly lucky to not have too many significant injuries, save for Terry Glenn (a last minute trade and a keeper for me) and DJ Hackett (my first draft pick).
I guess many of my guys have outperformed my expectations, especially lately; J. Lewis, C. Taylor, T. Romo and maybe R. Wayne. The Bears D really dropped off and my IDP players have been unspectacular but consistent.
I hope Romo's thumb is OK for next week - I think I'll need him. Good luck Ref!
PS: now watch C. Taylor fumble the first play, get hurt, leave the game and the Bears give up 100 points tonight, leaving me with the loss.

I hate that Fargas is likely out. Would much rather both of us be at full strength and have 'may the best team win' kind of thing happening. But in the end, all anyone will remember is the winner. So best of luck to you as well (assuming the worst of luck ever doesn't happen to you tonight). I really thought that CT was primed to take down the league this year.
