I am pleased to announce the 14 managers for the 2008 RIFC:

This list includes me, the top-6 non-me seeds from last year's RIFC, 3 teams from each AAA league, and the (playoff) winner of the AA league. For each AAA league, I selected the playoff winner plus the top two seeds for the playoffs. In the instance that the playoff winner was one of the top two seeds, then the third seed was selected.
I have heard back from everyone but deepsnapper, but I’m going to proceed on the assumption that he will be participating. If not, then #3 seed from his AAA league will be asked to fill that opening (Doug).
Although it is still early, there are several things that we can start on:
1. Sign-ups for qualifying leagues. I will start a separate thread for this.
2. Discussion of possible rules changes. (We can use this thread for that.)
3. Discussion of any other issues that should be resolved before the start of the draft.
I expect that the RIFC draft will start sometime around August 15, plus or minus a few days. I plan to draft using kafenatid.net software once again, and recent history suggests that we can knock off the draft in 2 weeks.
I have not yet reviewed the issues that arose during last season that might prompt rules changes (and/or clarifications). If anyone would like to skim through the various discussion threads from last year and post potential issues, please do so. I’ll copy over last year’s rules momentarily.

I am planning to be on the road from the 18th until the 22nd. I will probably have nightly internet access during that time, but that isn't even garunteed, depending on how my laptop likes the hotel's internet. I understand if the draft cannot be delayed, I will just have to work around it with queues and such.

The vote is currently 6-6. Only Slackjaw and I have yet to vote.
I'm going to cast my vote for A. I'm rather ambivalent, and if there is no groundswell of support for change, I would prefer to leave it the same. So even if Slackjawed Yokel were to vote B, the tally would be 7-7 and the proposal would not pass.
Thus, the scoring rules will remain the same as last year.
The next item on the agenda is the selection of our draft order. I need two league managers to send me a list of integers 1-14 sorted in any order. The first will be used to resequence an alphabetical listing of managers, and the second will assign selection order for this process. After I have received both lists, I will post the results here and we can begin.

For full transparency, IAC sent this list:

I am not following the math on the draft order there. I would never be last or 6th on an alphabetical list.
As an example, If Bags were 1 on a alphabetical list, re-signed to 1, and then re-signed to 13, how does he end up 3rd? I guess I am just being stupid, but I don't follow this.

I'll be on the road most of today. Tomorrow, I'll get organized for the draft and post the ground rules.
The draft will start on Friday, although on an untimed basis. Even though we will have no clock until Monday, it would be helpful to know in advance if anyone expects to be significantly delayed or unavailable during the opening weekend, so that others will be aware and prepared.

I just started the draft software. You can now set your designated pickers and/or queues. If managers want to start picking when it is their turn, feel free - although the early activation is not for the purpose of getting a jump in the draft, but simply to enable managers with limited access to get a head start on queues and DPs.

Will likely make no difference since I pick 9th; but I will be at a golf tournament tommorrow and will not be around til mid to late afternoon. Hopefully it won't get to me as my team is much better at drinking than golfing; and as Team Captain it is up to me to lead my team to.....
