21.04 Jason Avant WR PHI
Reserve WR. Avant was more part of the Eagles play book the latter half of ‘08. He is an excellent receiver who runs great routes and is not afraid to fight for the ball.

Needed another WR. Hoping Britt can excel with Washington out indefinitely. Haven't seen his timetable lately, but Britt has a lot of upside if he can stay in the lineup.

Would have taken him earlier if I was in town for no other reason to taunt Bonka mercilessly through the season. I'm frankly stunned Bonka didn't grab him at some point. SJax is good for perhaps 12 games a year and having his handcuff has some value at least to me perhaps beyond the actual fantasy value

21.07 Arizona Cardinals, DEF

I wanted to grab another defense for bye weeks/unfavorable matchups. Arizona's schedule looked good for the Titan's bye and games against the Colts. They play in a relatively weak conference and scored well last season. Not expecting a lot, as long as they're good for the 3-5 weeks they might get used.

I picked Bo up of the waiver wire last season. And he put up some decent numbers at times. I prey I only have to start him once this season.

I needed a second defense and the Colts seemed to be the best on the board. The Colts scored four defensive TDs last season. The defense seems to produce very well when Bob Sanders is healthy. I hope Sanders stays healthy!!

21.10 Mewelde Moore, RB/KR, PIT
not many RB backups or 3rd man are left out there. With Willie Parker already banged up a bit and Rashard Mendenhall not impressing the coaches, Mewelde Moore may step in at some point this season. Until then he will most likely do goal-line work and return some kicks. not a bad outlook for a late 21st rounder.

I really hadn't been planning on getting another WR - as I already have two solid TE's and 4 WR's. But after the Colt's D went off the board, I opted to take a stab at the top-drafted WR in the real NFL draft. Word is he may be the Raiders' main option for WR, so as long as we're in the waiver-fodder portion of the draft, I'll take a guy who has lots of upside....

The 4th overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft should be the starting SLB. I’ve been going for youth and upside for my IDP’s and Curry has both.

144 yards and 2 TDs in tonight’s preseason game show the potential. A speculative pick, to be sure, but one worth a venture for my 5th WR.

21.14 Jermichael Finley, TE, GNB

I can't say I know too much about Finley. He's supposedly going to be a part of the offense in Green bay. With a low end TE as my #1 TE I figured I needed to get one of the TE's that'll break out this year. More than likely, Him and/or Boss will be heading to the waiver wire by week 2 or 3.

22.01 Brian Witherspoon, DB, JAX

He's returning punts and kicks for the Jaguars. He had 13 tackles last year which hopefully he'll improve on this year. Figured he's worth the gamble this late especially if he starts getting more PT in the secondary.

Adding receiving depth with the #3 receiver for the Packers, who should be playable even as a #3. I probably don’t really need a 6th WR, but after a week or two, I may be able to figure out which ones to drop in favor of free agents... or even trade.

22.03 Rob Bironas, K, TEN

I usually draft my K in the 22-24 rounds. No particular reason why I decided to go round 22. I would have been happy with any number of other kickers just decided on Bironas because of his accuracy and he seems to get the longer field goals.

22.04 David Akers, K, Phi

Well, I'd decided to get a kicker here before the last two rounds simply so I could have a choice of one of the top options. I decided on Bironas, but of course he went with the pick before mine. Akers is a solid kicker with a lot of scoring opportunities in Philly. I probably could have waited considering Crosby was picked in the last round.

some defense back insurance. I had him last year too and for the first few weeks he was in the top 5 at his position. too bad I may need him later than that this season to fill some bye week holes. until then I will have a good view at him and he is either still on my team or replaced by a player that looks more consistent than him.

22.06 Alphonso Smith DB DEN
At this stage of the draft, I was looking to land a CB. I wrestled between selecting several players that produce consistent tackle numbers and players that produce numbers via punt or kickoff return numbers. After weighing the options and believing that Denver will give up a LOT of points, I settled on the rookie Smith.

I hope I don't have to start Davis much or at all. But if Johnson goes down again this season he should get some play time. The WR pool is such a wasteland at this point I don't want any of them. but I thought I better take a stab at one.

Pretty much any of the guys being grabbed now can be picked up off waivers, so I decided to grab Sanchez since I'm not 100% confident that Hill will keep the starting job the whole season and Sanchez could end up doing decent since he won't be asked to do a lot with the Jets' running game already in place.

One of the strange things I don't get about this league is how late people wait to get kickers. People are getting 3 or 4 deep at backup RB and WR and a spot that can be a good ppg delta slides. Was just planning on sitting on Nate until the first PK went off the board, so here it is.

Wanted to find a second Def. Not sure yet how much I'll be using them. There wasn't much left and I was looking for a decent matchup for NEs bye and games against Ind and NO. This was the best I can find, but in all reality I have a good bit of time before I absolutely need to use them.

The new starting WOLB in a Tampa2. The Colts fell out of favor with Keiaho (whom they released then re-signed this off-season), and Session appears to be the new man for the job. It'll be a close race between Brackett and Session for who will lead the LBs in tackles.

Really just filling out the roster now. I don't know that I've ever ended the year with the DL I drafted in this league. Long is entering his 2nd pro season, so he'll either begin to reach his potential as a pass-rusher or his potential to be the first player I drop.

Williams is back from his injury and played very well in the few games he played last season. This was a good opportunity to handcuff Derek Ward. Unfortunately it seems like Graham may have reclaimed his starting position.

23.01 Ronde Barber DB TAM
I have had Barber on just about every RFIC team I have managed. He has always been a great addition to my squad. He is solid for tackles, pass deflections and has a good chance to take one to the house at any time.

I know some people think there is no difference in kickers, but I do like to take guys who (1) kick in domes and don't have to worry about wind and rain for at least half of their games, and (2) have a late bye-week so that by then I have a good sense of who I can drop to cover the kicker's bye.

23.03 Kevin Burnett, LB, SD

Another pick due to being lazy and relying on my queue... but... it was kinda necessary as I have a bunch of IDPs that have a week 4 bye. I was also considering Foote here, but the bye issue reared it's head again. I don't know much about Burnett, other than he's been projected to play the WILB in SD, and may be a 3 down player. That should produce enough #s for him to warrant a flyer here.

Kickers are all about the same. I planned on waiting until the last round to grab one, but I figured I'd grab Elam while he was here while still grabbing someone I want next round. Elam has been a top kicker for a long time and plays in a dome on a good offense, so there's lots of FG and XP opportunities and not a lot of bad weather.

23.10 Dwight Freeney, DL, IND
with 2 rounds to go I still need 2 positions to fill: DL and K. I already have 2 players that I want to take with my 24th pick that are not from these 2 positions, so it was a DL here, because a kicker is a kicker is a kicker. and a specific kicker is worth the same as a different kicker. there is no difference in talent, only in luck if the corresponding offense can't convert on 4th down and need the kicker. and we never know that offense before the game is played.
there are some DLs out there that may produce more then Freeney. the projections I saw list a lot of different DLs in the top 10. most of them see Freeney there. compared to others on those lists, he has no question marks too. so I picked him. he will much likely be replaced by the next hot DL during the regular season. Until then he is my starter.

23.11 Kevin Williams, DL, Min

I pretty much waited until the end to get my DL. As I see it there are only a handful of linemen worth an earlier pick and the rest are pretty much interchangeable. Went with Williams as who I thought was the best available. His 60 tackles and 8.5 sacks last season are very solid, so we'll see if he can repeat those levels...

I had queued up Tynes and Seattle as my two final picks. So much for that.

Folk should be fine. His bye is in week 6, which fits well with my other bye week needs. I’ll probably wait until then to decide whether to rent a kicker for that week, or to move elsewhere.

I thought about Rackers and Kasay as well, but didn’t want their week 4 bye. I’ll have other bye-week needs to deal with that week.

I gladly take the kicker for more than likely a top 5 offense this year. Never much strategy involved with kickers, imo.

24.01 Devery Henderson, WR, NO

A deep threat for a great offense. Another guy that seems like he slipped because he isn't some guy that's going to double his numbers from last year. However, if he increases his production by 10% this year he's a bonified steal this late in the draft.

24.02 Larry Foote, LB, Det

I have only 6 IDPs, and unfortunately, two have a bye in week 4. So I guess I should lay in one backup at this point, even though I may very well fiddle with my existing IDPs before the 4th week.

Foote is the starting MLB on Detroit, so he should get plenty of opportunities. And if I decide to hold him long term, his week 7 bye is a good fit with the rest of my roster.

I'm sure I didn't need another LB here, but I figured at this point it didn't hurt to try to get another breakout player. Having seen a couple of Hard Knocks episodes on HBO, I can see that he's one of these high energy guys who can find the ball - this should translate into big tackle numbers and turnovers. But, of course, he's a rookie and it may take a while for all this to develop.
