I'm not a college football fan by any stretch of the imagination. I enjoy watching B1G teams when I've got a free Saturday, but I have to ask... is this Notre Dame thing for real or are they just over-hyped because it's ND? I feel like they're due to get killed by Stanford and USC, but if they run the table will I (someone who lives in Northwest Indiana, but can't stand Golden Domers) have to deal with ND being in the National Championship game and potentially ending the SEC's dominance?

They're for real and I think they will be the team that ends up playing Alabama in the national championship...and no they won't win.

ND has a very good front 7 this year, with a young secondary that is masked by front 7. They also have a decent O-line.

The B1G is awful this year, at best. I think ND will stumble at some point this year, but a bigger tripping point will be Oklahoma, IMO. But Stanford and the trip to USC are not going to be easy either.

ND is a good team this year, but I don't see them competing with Alabama for a NCG. Something to remember, ND typically gets into a "better" bowl game than what they deserve by their on field product. The main reason, is they fill seats and bring eyes to the TV. Who do you think most Bowl games wants? The 2nd or 3rd place ACC/B1G/Pac10/SEC team or ND? Who is more like to sell tickets and create buzz, even if they get beat in the game. The Bowls are not about the best teams and good match-ups. Like most things in college sports now, its about money.

Looking back through the thread. Does anyone feel that the B1G is any good this year? I'm a B1G fan, but they are awful this year.

@Frick I was hopeful that Northwestern would run the table and cause someone to say "Well how good is Northwestern and should they be in the NCG discussion?" but yeah, the B1G is awful. Michigan State or Wisconsin is going to get murdered by USC in the Rose Bowl.

But, I think MSU will be offset by Arkansas, particularly with a home game for that one. I'll stick to the 8-5 prediction and hope for 9-4... or better (with a ridiculous amount of luck).

*facepalm*

I didn't think I'd say this in October this year, but thank God I'm a Nats fan.

True, OSU does look pretty good, but they are essentially playing exhibition games every week. The same goes for Penn St. for the next few years. The only impact they can really have is, to damage a team that is eligible for a bowl game.

Also, their success will hurt recruiting a bit for other teams if they continue to win games.

Does playing OSU count either way in the BCS standings, since OSU is not BCS eligible?

I have to hand it to Penn State. Nobody would have complained if they went 3-9 this year, but they are fighting with every ounce of their being in every game. Yeah the games dont really mean anything in the end, but you can't tell the players or students that.

It will benefit recruiting also to win games as they have done. Kids will want to come there if they see there's a good coaching staff in place and they can win games.

It took six weeks, but the Oregon Duck offense was finally OK from start to finish.

The defense has been looking great thus far, but the offense looked young (even though they average 52 pts/gm). The freshman QB is showing improved decision making, but definitely has game. And when the opponent focuses on D'Anthony Thomas, Coach Kelly has been able to come up with a different successful gameplan.

Bring on USC.

I assume that playing Ohio St or Penn St (or USC the last 2 years) hurts/helps a teams rankings in the computer models.

Penn St can have a great coaching staff, but it is going to be hard to recruit players who can't compete to win a championship until their junior or senior years. It will be interesting to see how their recruiting does over the next 4 years.

It's still going to be Bama / Oregon...Bama will win out, get a boost by beating UF and when Norte Dame chokes at USC, they will finish ahead in the BCS...enter the nay-sayers who will be giddy about 2014...

Texas A & M is way better than I think we all thought...2 losses, both to top tier teams.

Bama's problem is arrogance...they often play man coverage with no help over the top because they believe, and are often right, they are just flat out better athletes than their opposition. LSU exploited that last week and provided that blueprint, which was executed perfectly by A & M. Gig'em.

SZ - channeling your inner Corso???

I realized that after I posted...but the computers are gonna favor Bama over K-State, even if they win out...not to mention Bama will bring more $$$$....

Another correction is Georgia instead of UF...my bad.

For whatever reason, I have a gut feeling K-State is going to slip vs Texas...I have nothing to support that claim though. I feel because Texas has more "talent" overall they'll prevail.

Alabama
Florida
LSU
Texas AM
Georgia
South Carolina

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's 6 teams in the top 10!

We'll see what the SEC is made of this weekend. If Florida, Georgia and South Carolina don't show well this weekend against their ACC rivals, ALL the SEC teams should drop since they've built their rankings on beating each other. If FSU and Clemson both win, they should both be ranked in the top 5. I am trying to figure out who Alabama has beaten to be ranked above all of the rest of the one-loss teams.

The SEC has figured this out. The whole conference had a bye week on Saturday, figuring it's best to loose early.

Oregon > Bama
Stanford > Florida
UCLA > LSU
Oregon St > Georgia
Huskies or USC > Cocks

Stanford got jobbed by the refs in South Bend. They should be the second ranked team in the nation, they just beat Oregon in Eugene and their only real loss is to the Huskies in Seattle, who are impossible to beat at home.

I've watched a lot of SEC games this year and I am not impressed at all with FLA or Georgia. LSU and Alabama have great defensive talent, but both have given up 400 yards in games to teams with decent but not great offenses.

You also have fourteen teams, so I left A&M off. I've only seen them in at Alabama game, don't really know them. I'm with Razor, I fully expect FSU and Clemson to win because this is not the SEC's year.

Maryland going to the Big 10 is just wrong. I cannot wrap my head around the fact that they won't have home and home versus the Tar Heels and the Blue Devils every year in basketball. How are sports fans supposed to have institutional memories if you change the conferences every other year?

"Hey, kid, come play for Maryland, you'll get to play four maybe five games in Indiana and Illinois EACH YEAR". Yuck.

I dont think FSU is that good with Manuel...if FSU wins, it will be because of Brantley. Their defense is among the best but their offense leaves alot to be desired.

Clemson should beat South Carolina...The loss of Lattimore will hurt them in this game. It's amazing that Clemson isn't in the top 10.

No way Oregon State is better than Georgia...

I look at it as:

Alabama > Oregon >= Georgia / LSU > Stanford.

I firmly believe the rest are better than your PAC 12 brethren. LSU thumped your beloved huskies bc they're just bigger and stronger...with the same speed. I watched that game and pulled for your huskies, but they showed the o-line / d-line comparisons graphic and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to wonder why Washington got mauled...

That would happen vs the gimmick spread offenses that Oregon State and UCLA run. Their 4th or 5th WR is way worse than the 4th or 5th defensive back on a SEC squad...who will probably make a NFL roster bc of his size/speed alone.

As for A&M, their only losses are close ones vs Florida and LSU...their defense is prone to the big play still.

I'll let our resident dawgs fan post on why Georgia is a top team...

It's amazing how TV money has changed/ruined college athletics. Kansas-Missouri, Maryland-Duke, Nebraska-Oklahoma, Texas-Texas A&M are no more. Instead, we've got Florida-Missouri, Maryland-Minnesota, Nebraska-Rugers, and South Carolina-Texas A&M. None of this crap makes any sense, except under the lens of ensuring the coffers of the conferences and universities are well-stocked.

I really don't like Notre Dame, but they've got a very, very good squad this year.

If Ohio State hadn't messed up by assuming they wouldn't get a ban this season, this might have been the year of an ND/OSU championship game. A game where Zen would have gone out on a crime spree from all the frustration.

In college I once dated a girl who went to Notre Dame, who was flabbergasted that I wasn't a big fan of ND football on account of me being a Catholic. Their sense of entitlement is stiffling.

This likely isn't the end of Te'o's side of the story.

I've had my fair share of long distance relationships and know many people who have had online relationships and there are too many aspects of this that aren't adding up in terms of Te'o's side of the story.

First, one of the common themes with people in online relationships is their desire to meet in real life (IRL). Most of these people move VERY quickly to meet IRL. In fact, many of them move TOO quickly to meet IRL.

So, where was the IRL meeting? Surely there was plenty of opportunity for the two to meet, no? A quick search indicates that ND's summer practice started in mid-August. Given that, June and July would have been ripe with opportunity for an IRL meeting of SOME kind. His "girlfriend" pushing that off would have raised red flags.

Second, Te'o was, at a minimum, complicit in the reporting of false information about his relationship. Several major articles point to Te'o and his "girlfriend" meeting IRL. Te'o certainly read those articles and then did nothing to refute what was obviously false information.

Third, another common theme to online relationships is the sharing of photos. Not sharing on a monthly basis. Not sharing on a weekly basis. We're talking sharing on a daily, or more frequent, basis. In the current digital age and with the proliferation of cell phones with cameras, sharing multiple photos a day is not uncommon in online relationships. Since the "girlfriend" was using fake photos stolen from a FB account, this just wasn't possible. If Te'o was completely duped, he would have been constantly requesting new photos only to be turned down on a very regular basis. That seems extremely unlikely to have been okay with him for as long as the "relationship" existed.

And this doesn't even begin to get into Skype (free!), Facetime (free!), or any other video chat possibility that would have been obvious for an online relationship and clearly couldn't have happened if we believe Te'o's story 100%.

The more I think about this, the harder it is to believe Te'o was just an innocent pawn in an elaborate hoax. I will not be surprised if he later admits to having some role in all of this. Whether that's as part of the creation of the hoax or just in continuing the storyline after he figured it all out remains to be seen.

I'm reading about the Husky Stadium renovations and came across this gem:

...As workers put the finishing touches on the stadium — we were assured the place will be “99.5 percent” complete by game day, and what isn’t won’t be visible — we got the grand tour. I couldn’t help but notice that when we started, the scoreboard read, UW 31, Boise State 6, at the end of the third quarter. But by the time we emerged, that bit of wishful thinking had been erased, and it was 0-0...

I turn on the PAC12 network, and with 11 min left in the 4th what does the scoreboard read?

UW - 31
BSU - 6
