my opinion --

proceed with round as normal, skipping josh.

give him the highest available ranked player at his biggest position of need at the end of this round if he doesn't show before then and pick.

picks made before him are lost to him - tough luck.

Thats besides the fact that the whole point of the keeper league is that the bad teams get the 1st picks in later drafts, so they can take the good rookies. It's stupid that rookies will be allready owned by someone, before they are in the NFL.

It's just stupid that 2 years from now, kev will be the league champion, but still he will get all the good rookies because he picked them when they were freshamns in college and nobody knew who they are.

Im back home. And really, what is the point of having a developmental squad if I cant pick players who are going to develop?

TD, you made the basic rules for the DS that we are still going with. If you didnt want college players taken, YOU SHOULD HAVE WRITTEN THAT!

No where does it say I wasnt able to take him. I really wish I hadnt now- I was positive eric, dean, or doc would be on the college players. Thats why I took him when I did. No where did I break a rule. Honestly, your just mad because I thought of it, and you didnt.

Pete, it was a gamble pick. If he breaks a leg next year, then yeah, I throw him off my team, and go from scratch with him. But if does what most think he will, and is the #1 pick in next year, and has a good season, then I look smart. That's what gambling is about- you win some, and lose some, and you take calculated risks, where the odds are in your favor. Roy Williams has Moss type skills. Ill take that risk

TD. I dont know a ton of US college football either. Hell, I live in Canada. I thought of the strategy, and then researched some players, and the guy I decided on was Roy Williams of Texas.

also after u print the rules for the DS at the end is (this still needs a bit of clearing up) ,does not telling us that we can draft college player clear it up, so it not really a strategy or is it, not!!! owell i guess we can draft college players now being king kev has made it clear we can, seems a little underhand to me and not like a strategy

i don't have a problem with us drafting college players the only problem is when kev wright in the rule following the DS he put in (this still needs abit of clearing up) then thinks he has some kind of strategy by drafting a college player, would think he would have a little more sence then that, and still the DS is not clear, it's just a matter of having the rules

I might have gone a bit too far last night, I was kind of pissed of, and very tired. sorry about that.

But, my opinion hasn't change. Kev, it's not fair that you can pick a football player, before he is even on an NFL team. The point of rookies is that they are avaibible in later years drafts.

About the DS... C'mon... it suppposed to hold young NFL talent, guys you think has potential to be great, but won't have playing time this year. Like maybe Dashuan Foster and TJ Ducket this year. Or Roberty Ferguson last year, stuff like that.

I will say it again... drafting players out of college, before they have been through the NFL draft, is just not right. But whatever you guys decide.

How is it not right? You incorporated the idea of a Developmental Squad TD (yes G, it was TD that had the idea, not me, I just ironed out the details)

The rules stated that a player could be on your DS with less than 3 years NFL experience. Roy Williams fits that description. Really, there isnt a lot to debate about. I made a legit pick. It's a DS player.

Pete- I personally think Roy Williams will be a better pick than David Carr in 2 years. That is why I made the choice.

so you are gonna put thechnicaliy on me... OK....

Just tell me something... are we allowed to pick up college players of waivers? put them on the active roster?

If the question for these questions are yes, we just screwed up maybe the most important thing in a keeper league, wich is following rookies, and knowing when to draft them in later years drafts. Just think about it... a week before the season ends, someone will relaese 3 old guys, pick up the 3 hot college prospects, who anounced they are going to the draft, and walla... he goy Green, Duckett and Foster with no option to give them to the team that really needs them. That stinks. And we are allwed to keep up to 7 players, 10 if you count the DS, so yes, rookies are supposed to be the focal point of later years drafts.

Kev how about this for compromise offer:

We will add to each team a college squad, a place for a team to hold 1 single college player, selected in this draft. There is no way to change that player, untill he gets to the NFL. Then the team can bump him to the active roster or the regular DS. This will obviously add anothr round to the draft. When the player makes him eligible to the NFL draft, the team that has him will pick a college player to replace him in that year's draft.

This will add the college aspect, only without the possible of cheating that I can see happening if we don't do something.

What do you think?

if you go by the law of the land, then - in reality , if a college player were to sign he would have to enter the nfl immediately....not so in this case.

Add to that the potential to keep 10 players year to year (3 auto, 4 in liu of picks, 3 ds) then this could be an interesting way of creating your own farm system....

at any rate, roy williams plays for texas who plays in an overrated conference with no skill guys at a non consistent point producing position.... i can think of 20 college players this year i'd take before him.

i don't care which way we go here..

And Duckett will not make my DS squad......he may start on the bench but he'll see plenty of playing time as the season progress

Damn I'm hung over

In my basketball, hockey, and baseball keeper leagues, any DS guy you sign HAS to be in college (minors). TD, if you think it's so great to have college guys, just spend your next 3 picks getting them. Having a 4th (college only) DS spot is absolutely retarded.

TD, please drop it. Kev has exactly one college player. There is much time for you to grab college guys. So, if you think it's an advantage, take the advantage.

Seriously TD, enough already.

I suggest that we move all discussion and drafting back to Chris' boards at swirve as they are more organizing. Y2J is up next

That board is down again....doc took Miami D, Y2J, Eric, TD.

BTW, list in Post #346 is missing Ryan - Eagles D, Dean - Bucs D, and now Doc - Miami D

You guys can settle the rookie stuff....I personally dont think he should have been drafted...It wasn't in the rules plus no one expected it. Tell me when I am up...How many more picks do we have?

I really didnt think I was doing anything wrong, and the reason I took them that early is I was sure someone else was on the same strategy. To me, the DS was like a prospects draft. Take young guys that have a chance to move into your lineup at a future time....

And TD, at the end of the year, you want to drop your DS players or old farts for college players, go for it. Fact is, you can only still hold 3 DS players. If you dont have good DS players, thats your choice.

Now that I see everyone else wasnt going the college route, I agree that Roy Williams was early, but doc, I dont doubt his skill level. You cant teach his size. He will be a fine NFLer.

can we please drop this?

TD, HARRY, G.....the only way you can possibly be upset is if you had Roy Williams as your #1 College guy...a guy you want on your team in future years at all cost. Even then, kev scooped him up earlier than you would have. Chances are that you hadn't even heard of him. Now college or no college is irrelevant, because the rules are the same for everyone...it's pretty much a non-issue.

Pete, and everyone

There is another thread for the slow part of the draft (part 2).

And if you are going on vacation, please, email me, and leave me a que of at least 24 players, so we can still try and keep this at a pace that wont take 3 months.

thanks for the diplomacy josh, i sure wish you'd come down here to bugland and give beano reno a run in the primary........

3 college players for ds is a great idea. adds an extra element. i think the jury is out on williams, can't question his natural abilities but you can question his production against quality opponents....

and my point being, why spend your first ds pick on a w.r. anyway? thats the deepest position in the nfl. your first 2 picks should be on rb's - if not all 3.....

I think Im alright with Dillion and ATrain for a couple years. Im also happy with Griese as my QB if he quits drinking. My WR's are where I need a guy who could blossom into a great WR. Roy Williams could be that WR.

perhaps,
but there are several good/potentially great rcvr's with nfl experience. how many recievers come out of college and light up the nfl in their first or second season?

beyond moss, none in recent memory (although chris chambers had a very good year last year).

boston has entered the elite in his third year, t owens took 4 years, marvin harrison took 3, etc...

great rb's, however can make an immediate impact. recent examples, faulk, edge, tomlinson, dillon, martin, a thomas, george, emmitt, j lewis, etc...

mho of course

doc- There have been more instant impact RB's from college than WR's, but really, in next years draft, the WR options are much better for an instant impact in the NFL. What most places have as the top rated RB coming out next year is Onterrio Smith. He wont be an impact player next year.

And even if it does take an extra year for Roy Williams to be worth starting, while I wait for him to become a stud (or hope), I have the deepest NFL position to work with.

A good debate nonetheless. Always a pleasure with ya. annaisminethough.
