Without clogging up the bidding thread here's a place to make comments about the draft.

I didn't get back on the computer last night due to visiting relatives, I thought it would be rude to be in the room with them while there were trying to sleep. When I wake up this morning LdT has been posted and in the space of 5 or 6 bids gone to $68. Well then, I guess I just won't sleep the rest of the draft!

This is probably the most fun and interactive draft of the year, I watch the bidding threads constantly, well if I don't have relatives getting in the way.

Congrats on the first player Sarge!

Now the real question, did you really want him? I'm going to guess yes, based on an extremely vague memory that you have had Johnson in several other leagues. Dang, I should have bumped that bid.

lmao In truth, the answer to your question s "no, I didnt". BUT, I had him valued higher, so I dont feel at all bad about getting him for $14.

For clarification on the part of your aging commish...

could each manager whose team name, bears no resemblance to: their real name. their email addy, or their rotoguru screen-name please post, your team name for me? That way, I make certain to assign the right players to the right teams.

Thank-you!!

And yeah, I think Johnson was a decent value, especially for an opening round player.

Crap, I guess I'm screwed. My plan of getting Peyton Manning for $1 appears to have failed.

On a side note: Sarge, can you get me good deal on a used car? I got tagged by someone on my home for lunch today. I turned left and the car that hit me was in a blindspot behind an on coming car heading left. Somehow in a 35mph zone he managed to hit me hard enough to spin my car 270 degrees and deploy the B pillar airbag (passenger side). This was after he probably had 70 or 80 feet to stop. I know that it wasn't enough time to come to a complete stop, but speeding is extremely common on the road. I apologize for the rant, I'm sore and without a car and soon to have higher deductibles.

Not to say "I told ya so"....but...... *evil smirk*

cant do much for ya on a car Frick. I switched over to Powersports about a year ago. I can make you a hell of a deal on a 2000 Goldwing though. :)

Can you put carseats on the backseat of the Goldwing?

I was contemplating a higher bid on LdT, but the car wreck has thrown my afternoon into disarray.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to get caught up this evening.

Just when I am about to post about being able to stay home tonight and keep up with the auction and keep my charts up to date real-time I get a phone call to play cards. I really enjoyed the mock draft because I was able to keep up either at home or in the office. Since I am at a fair all week handing out information (95 degrees 50% humidity yesterday) I am not able to keep up until I get home around 4 or 5. GRR! At least I am able to bid.

Frick, sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you aren't too sore.

Sarge, that's a ton of stuff. Nice pictures of the bikes too.

Sidenote: LdT went way to cheap IMHO, but I wasn't willing to fork out 1/3 my roster's value on one player. Call me a penny pincher if you want.

<---Had Lt valued at $71 and was NOT willing to get him for the "bargain" price of $69 by submitting a bump bid.

lmao...damn near thought I was gonna get "stuck" with Manning for the bargain bin price of $33!! Didnt need to have $62 in 2 QBs though. Glad he got bumped, even if only a little.

My spreadsheet at home, automatically converts to an am/pm time display. The one at work, used whatever format I input. Sorry about the inconvenience...but in all honesty, I dont think its all that much trouble, and I dont always have the time to convert each and every entry.

If you are using Excel it should be easy to change the format.

If you need you need step by step instructions, I can post them.

At work its Excel....at home it isnt.

24 hr clock 101:

IF it is pm, add 1200 to get the "military time"...

ie 2:20 pm = 2:20 plus 12:00 = 14:20

conversely, subtract the 12:00 to get "civilian" time

15:45...-12:00 = 3:45 pm

**********************************

to figure out a bids scheduled end time..

add 0800

11:20 plus 0800 = 19:20
19:20 - 12:00 = 7:20 pm

IF the time goes beyond 2400 once you have added the 0800, THEN add another 0800 for the 8 hr clock stoppage AND subtract 2400 from the total since there are only 24 hrs in the day):

18:45 bid time

18:45 plus 0800 = 26:45

26:45 plus 0800 = 34:45

34:45 - 24:00 = 10:45

thus a bid submitted at 18:45 (6:45pm) and not bumped, will win the player at 10:45 the following morning.)

FRIDAY nights, the clock stops at 6pm eastern (1800) as posted by rotoguru and does not start again until Monday morning at 0800 eastern (as posted by rotoguru)

SO...a bid submitted at 3:30pm Fri (or 15:30)

The clock is off from 6pm to 8 am or 14 hrs. (We can ignore sat-sun for the computation)

15:30 plus 0800 (for the 8 hrs bid time) plus 1400 (the 14 hr clock stoppage) = 37:30

37:30 - 24:00 = 13:30

So on 13:30 MONDAY, assuming that bid isnt bumped, it wins the bid upon player.

Hopefully, that helps more than confuses.

Decided to try something a little different this year. In the past, I like most, went for Rbs first and second. Always it seems, my WRs have "hurt" me. This year, I went for a core of solid WRs, and I for one like what I got for my primary 3. Now...to see what it costs me in the way of my RBs..........

for me Peyton is the 1st tier alone. question is if the additional $16 are really worth it.

interesting is that Carson Palmer is getting more love then the mentioned members of the 2nd-tier. I'm satisfied with Brees for $29. a bit more than I thought to buy for my QB1 but still good value.

Well, let's put it this way:

You have that one...
there's the one directly above (post 21) that says something different...
and the "rules" thread (the Rotoguru Auction League '07-'08, discussion thread) does not speak to the Friday night deadline at all.

So, I'm at minimum confused.

I don't have a problem with the earlier deadline, it seems like the better of the options IMO. The reason I say it is the better of the options is because if someone check around noon, they could expect that anyone who was bid after 10:00 AM on Friday could not be finalized until Monday morning.

Just my $.02 on the matter. I trust Sarge to make the call that he feels is correct.

truth of the matter is...I knew I had called for an earlier clock stoppage on Fris than the rest of the week when I posted above. Just couldnt find where I had said when. Sooooo, I posted the 18:00 above, that was the most recewnt "declaration" and it went uncontested. I think in all fairness then, I have to own upto the 18:00 stoppage and reset things to that point.

Its gonna take me a little time, but I will get it rectified relatively shortly.

Again...my apologies to all for the confusion and the error.

Funny story:

My wife and I are both in a very casual fantasy league (along with Scarecrow and a number of our other friends). A few years ago, she had Ed McCaffrey as one of her wide receivers.

First Monday night game of the year, Denver is playing. I forget who the Denver QB was (Griese?), but he had quite a first half going with Rod Smith. McCaffrey, meanwhile, had roughly one reception for -1 yard. I should probably mention that I am pretty sure I had Rod Smith on my team.

So, midway through the second quarter, after another Rod Smith catch for a nice gain, she exclaims "I wish Rod Smith would just break his leg!".

Not three plays later, Ed McCaffrey's leg was broken, and he was out for the season.

Lesson: Don't tick off my wife. Or, perhaps more importantly, don't be next to whoever ticks her off.

the remaining moneys form your intial $200 for this auction, is what you have for the entire season to use to try and pickup free agents.

sorry GF...misread your question..

FA is currently setup for bidding. Min cost? If you're the only manager bidding ona player (something you may not know ahead of time) then min bid would be $1. BUT...bid $1 and someone else bids $2...you lose. Bid $9 and be the only manager bidding, and you spent $9 to get a player you coulda had for $1.

:)

IOW...you pays your money, and you takes your chances.

Dropping a player PRIOR to kickoff wk 6, returns 1/2 that players salary. (rounded down.) Droping a player AFTER wk 6 Kickoff, returns zero salary cap relief.

In the event of a starter who goes down at any time in the season, you have the option of calling for "Injury Priority" in the immediately following FA period. This gives you "first dip" into the pool, w/o regard to league standing. This option comes with requirements however....the FA taken MUST be of the same position as the player being replaced AND must start the following week for your. (I'm thinking too, that since these guys get taken w/0 other managers bidding against you, a minimum price needs to be set. Say $3 perhaps whwich is midway between the low possible of $1 and last years set price of $5)

Outside of Inj-Priority, I BELIEVE the site will accumulate our bids, then high bidder wins each player who was bid for.

sarge - regarding post 75 I have a few possible scenarios and would like to know how to handle these situations right:

scenario 1: bye-week fill-in
we are prior to week 5 and I have a kicker that has a bye in this week. I am putting in a blind bid for a different kicker of $1 because a replacement kicker is never worth than $1. lets say a different manager has the same problem and is also bidding on the same kicker. the one of us with the better tie-breaker (based on rankings?) gets the kicker for $1, the other gets nothing and has no chance to get a kicker for week 5 if no free agents can be picked up after the blind-bidding-phase.

extension: if the system supports it I could bid $1 for kicker A and $1 for kicker B in case I don't get kicker A. I could even bid for kicker C in case I don't get kicker A or B and so on.

scenario 2: late injuries/inactivity
after the blind-bidding-phase and before my kickers game he gets injured because of an accident on his way to the stadium. since he is a kicker I have no kicker on the bench. usually I would just drop the kicker and pick up a new one for $1. if I can't pick up a free agent I am screwed and have to play without a kicker.

extension: my kicker is declared inactive 30 minutes before the start of the game because the new kid in town made three 60-yd field-goald in a row in Saturdays training and the coach wants to give him a shot.

dammit...had a nice reply ready and had to reboot. :(

With the blind bids being new and with AOL being new, I honestly do not know if the site will allow input of a 1st-2nd-3rd choice. My best "opinion" at this stage, is if you want someone...pay for them. Else, you may not be getting them. *shrug*

As for why close down F/A outside of the bidding process, its because to not close it, negates the bidding process. Managers will just wait until they can get whomever for $1, and the whole point of the seasonal salary gets affectively tossed out the window. ALternately, it could be left open, but with a min F/A price outside of bidding, of $5 as per the previous years. (I'm open to input/suggestions here guys.)

If the bidding process on AOL is similar to the waiver system you put in claim priorities. i.e. If you are aware that 2 other managers also need a kicker that week you might want to put in 3 waiver claims, IIRC those can be set so that you only get 1 player and the unused waiver claims (i.e. bids) are canceled.

I think the injury claim is dependent on the injury being prior to the claim period. With the NFL's injury report even minor injuries can put a player on the probable list. If you kicker manages to fall out of his SUV on the way to the stadium, you either have to use a $5 claim or are SOL.

I in know way want the karma gods to think that I have a hatred of kickers, I would love for my kicker to be healthy for the entire season and I would love to not spend more than $2 for kickers this year.

Tony Gonzalez injured his knee on one of the last plays of practice Monday and limped off the field, the Kansas City Star reports. MRI tests revealed that Gonzalez injury was a Grade II tear, which in the big picture is bad news since his regular season availability does appear to be in jeopardy.

as an illustration of why I say the dynamics of the auction change when the board is "lite":

its the "sheep" factor to a degree. (and I do not say that to be critical of anyone). Mob mentality, if you prefer that term to sheep factor. It makes no difference. The shorter the board, the higher the bidding on eligible players it tends to run. (With a few exceptions as there are some managers who will simply wait for specific players, and then bid like madmen on those guys.)

12 teams with $200 ea = $2400 in total available funds.

12 teams with 15 roster posts = 180 players total.

Thx Scarecrow....

For next year, I want to institute a minor adjustment to the "fining" process. (Its my fault, but I have extenuating circumstances which I think we might want to account for in the future.)

I placed my bid on a player late last night, and then went to bed. I saw another bid on that same player this morning and *ahem* (this is the "my fault" part) assumed my bid was no longer valid, and then bid up another player.

Well, it turns out the subsequent bid on the first player, matched my bid, not exceeded. Thus, those funds of mine were still committed and that left me short for the "up bid" I had placed and thus I fined myself.

NOT FOR THIS YEAR, but for next....IF a manager finds themselves in this position:

Manager "A" bids on Player "1"...
Manager "B" bids on Player "1"...the SAME amount
Manager "A" sees "B's" bid and bids on another player and thus exceeds their budget..

"A" would have the choice of "turning" their bid on Player "1" to Manager "B", thus avoiding the fine.

That is a proposal for a change in the salary management rules. I am actively asking for input/opinion/suggestion.

      ID: 99331714

1st bid does take it Golf.

What I am proposing, is an "out" for a manager. IF someone bids after your initial bid on a player AND that bid is for the same amount as your standing bid...then (under this proposal) you as the first bidder would have the option of "releasing" your "first bid" claim and thus freeing your funds for other bids.

IOW..1st bid takes it, 2nd matching bid is irrelevant UNLESS the 1st bidder wants to let the player go.

My only concern, and it rides essentially on "trust", is that I dont want two managers "colluding" to do this. (Where the first bid was an "up bid" on a player the manager didnt really want, so their bud bids the same amount to release them form their first bid.)

Its just a suggestion, and is NOT being put in place as a "rule" unless/until the league as a whole discusses and decides it should be.

On another note:

I might suggest a $1 nuisance fine for anyone placing a bid that is not more $ than a previous valid bid (and after a certain time period, say 15 minutes, to avoid cross-posting). This would help alleviate the problem Sarge had, and would take care of a few other issues like that.

had I taken the time to update my SS before bidding, I'd have been OK. So I blame noone but myself. I saw the bid and "assumed" and we all know how dangerous that can be.

Still, I would oppose the nuisance bid fine, based on the fact that it is just too easy to overlook a bid, amongst all the posts which take place daily.

kyle - as I understand it now:

drops:
a drop prior to the roster freeze of week 6 gives you back 50% of the players value (rounded down). if you paid $5 you get $2 back.

buys:
there is a blind bidding process until mid-week where you can submit your bids for even $1 if you think you have a chance on that player. if a different managers bids $2 it is his. if he bids also only $1 a tie-breaker is needed to decide who gets the player.
after the blind bidding process every player is a free agent and costs $5.

so you can get the player you want cheap during the blind bidding phase or you pay the 5 bucks and get him later in the week (if you wanted to wait on his status or one of your players got injured late). of cource he has to be still available then.

all in all this could result in more activity during the season because we can get a player for as less than $1, but we still have a hard time to manage our limited funds.

open question:
- how is the tie-breaker in case of an equal bid defined? by wins, then by pts?

should be, by reverse order of standing. I say "should be", because I have never used the AOL host sitre before nor have I used a blind bidding process before. So, this is all new to me. However, the reverse order of standing in the event of tie bids, would stay consistent with what we have done in the past.

Suggestion:

If the board remains 4 light at 8:00 tomorrow, we may want to not start the clock until we get that reduced somewhat (especially with some people coming up fairly early).

I'll likely have much less access over the next couple of days (from 8am to 8pm)...not much I can do about missed bids but if I win a player it may take some time before I can name another.
Just a heads up and I understand if the board is lite feel free to have someone name one in my place.

OK..I think I ofund the problem I had encountered here this morning. I had apparently closed the SS w/o "saving" after I had updated it. (end of the month customer rush...inevitable in this biz unfortunately.) Either I hit a key wrong, or just plain had a brain fart, and the updates got 'lost'...meaning I most likely neglected to save them before exiting the SS.

Hope to have the bidding thread reopened within a few minutes.

Just for my own clarification regarding Lamont Jordan
Post 35 wait, didnt i have jordan for 8 post 20
I was under the impression that the bid in post 20 occurred while the clock was stopped and bidding suspended pending posting of more players and therefore was void.Is that correct?

Post 36 i know the time passed, but i didnt even check in until now because I knew my bid couldnt be beat before now
Couldn't I have bid $9 if neccessary and still had $1 left over for my last player?

I stated that I was suspending the clock. I had intended to, however did not specifically state as much, to suspend bidding as well. Since I didnt say it, I cannot hold to it. The 15 minute conterstment period however,, has been in place since day 1 of this league and that time had passed. Also, as I said, I had posted an updated list of current bids Sat eve, and it went uncontested as well. Therefore, the "rule" awarding the player, has to be upheld. To do otherwise, even thoug it was in point of fact MY error, is to nullify the rule. If I nullify this rule this time, which rule next time? How do I claim to enforce rules, when I would have failed to do so on such a critical aspect as the auction?

It was my error. I am not denying that. For that error, I apologize profusely. But I cannot and more importantly will not, jeopardize consistancy in applying the league rules.

that 15 minute rule needs some adjusting next season I think. IF you are leading a bid, why would you check in all day to confirm your bid is still there? If a bid was missed it should be able to be corrected.

I`agree. If you post a legal bid. I would like to maybe open it up for a vote next year.

That's something we may have to look into sarge for next year, thanks to my inadvertent circumventing of the rules.

wasnt meaning to osund like I was chewing a$$ wolfer. Fact is, I should have disallowed your White bid since you owed the board. *shrug* Too late now though and no true "harm". Just alters the final outcome somewhat.

Jackhammers (in this case) had won 2 and owed the board 2. SOmeone else won one and had a full roster. JH had the most room at that time, so he was called on for 3. Frick got called on for 3 pretty much in the same way. Another roster got filled, and between managers with outstanding bids and thus no ability/room, it fell to those of us with one slot left. You had the most money of those with one slot, so it fell to you.

Simple truth is, the end of the auction gets somewhat chaotic and absolutely requires participation by the managers. The only way aorund it, is to use a live auction draft, whiwch would preclude most of the issues encountered. Problem there, is timing and time zones.

I think we should add a rule next year that states if you someone to the board you can't place any bids. That should help prevent some of the situations we've had this year.

I have mixed feelings on the possability of having penalties for not nominating someone in a decent amount of time. If you post a message saying you are going to be away for X, then the commish and other managers know what to expect. If you just disappear for a day, the draft gets delayed.

Part of my concern goes to my naming players last night/this morning. I was well aware that they players that I had to name had a high chance of ending up on my team. To avoid the situation we had last year where a manager got "stuck" with the player he named I deferred until this morning.

I left early Saturday morning with 1 outstanding bid, I came back and was up for nominating 3 players which would fill out my roster. I'm aware that I delayed the draft and I apologize, but if I had been fined for that transgression I would be extremely upset. I think it is an issue we will have to deal with annually, since we aren't live and on a message board.

Sarge, can you post an updated roster summary? I apparently am missing some named players, I updated my spreadsheet against the last roster post, but didn't go back through the old threads. I apologize.

YR...from the rosters thread:

YoungRomans: $38 for 2 players
Drew Brees QB $29
C Pennington QB $3
W Parker RB $35
Travis Henry RB $31
Rudi Johnson RB $42
W Dunn RB $6
M Booker WR $1
T Glenn WR $1
R McMichael TE $5
D Clark TE $3
R Gould K $1
PITTS D $4
NYJ D $1

then you got J Galloway for $9 and D Jackson for $1. Right? That adds upto $172, from 200 would leave 28. Or do I have one or more of your players priced incorrectly?

ALL rosters are full except JackHammers, who has 3 open slots. All salaries are updated in the AOL host site, except JackHammers, who has yet to name his last 3 players.

PLEASE verify that your team is loaded properly and that your remaining monies are correctly reflected.

Do we want to have our Auction Recap here, or start an exciting new thread for it?

Either way, I nominate someone (nudges YR) to post that spiffy spreadsheet with the final rosters, similar to what's in post 185.

Once Jackhammers names the final 3 people to his roster, of course. :)

just in case I forget it: can I claim injury priority for the upcoming week because Terry Glenn is at least out for a few weeks, if not all season?

If yes, how much money do I need to spend on that player? $1? $5? do I compete with all other managers claiming injury priority?
I simply want to know. If the new player costs $5 I may not opt for injury priority and will try to get my targeted player for less during the blind bidding phase.

I had put that question out for discussion earlier, and got little if any feedback re the price of "Injury Priority" claims. (See post 77 above.)

Since I got no feedback, I have been laboring under the assumption we wouldnt change it at all. IOW, IF you claim Injury Priority:

1) You get 1st dip into the F/A pool w/o concern re bidding.
2) You MUST start the F/A taken in lieu of oyur injured player.
3) That new player obviusly has to be eligible for the injured players position. (WR->WR, TE->TE etc)
4) Inj Prior claims would entail a $5 salary hit. (I had suggested a $3 "compromise", but got no input in return, so I cant see making any change to it.)

Your week 1 match summaries going into Monday night:

Kyle 98.38 - Sarge 95.68

With McGahee and Boldin left for Kyle, against Mark Clayton and Shayne Graham for Sarge, this one looks to be solidly in Kyle's column. Strong performances from Eli Manning (don't worry Kyle, that injury just saved him from a silly late-game pick) offset a nice performance from Sarge's #1 pick Andre Johnson (I take back some of the bad things I thought about him).

Slowhand 130.04 - wiggs 82.90

Ladies and gentlemen, your week 1 league favorite. Carson Palmer has a chance to make things semi-respectable for wiggs (unless he throws to Houshkiewiczberger) but four 20+ point performance for Slowhand made this one look easy.

Jackhammers 79.46 - Scarecrow 65.28

Benson and Thomas Jones crapped the bed for Scarecrow, but Lewis and Maroney weren't much better for Jackhammers. Tonight should be interesting, as every Chad Johnson TD inflicts double pain on the Jackhammers and the Baltimore D. This one could come down to Larry Fitzgerald in the late game.

Youngroman 79.38 - Beezer 77.28

A two point lead plus an extra player normally makes one pretty comfortable... but not when Frank Gore is the player on the other team. I doubt he'll offset whatever Rudi Johnson puts up against Baltimore, plus whatever Darrell Jackson hauls in for SF, but you never know. A big game from Pittsburgh's defense helped YR take the lead.

Frick 92.20 - DWetzel 91.78

The closest game after Sunday night's contests... but Frick is done and I have Edgerrin James and Neil Rackers left. Assuming those two don't have a car accident on the way to the stadium, I should be all right. The Chargers defense outpointing the Bears defense 28-19 in the head to head matchup was big and probably offsets a stellar QB choice from me (Jay Cutler, naaah. Trent Green? Why would I do that? JP Losman, baby! Ohhh yeah!) Notable: both Frick and me managed to put up 60+ points on the bench.

Golffreak 124.50 - wolfer 107.12

Final score. When last I checked last night, Wolfer was comfortably ahead in this one... but that was before Plaxico Burress threw three TD passes to Terrell Owens (or was it the other way around?). Plaxico gets the leaguewide MVP award for this week.

A question on eligibility for the IR spot on my roster. Hypothetical Question: Would the speculation that a player is out for say 4 weeks due to a separated shoulder qualify? If so would I have first dibs at the pool of players (at this position) and have this player (of the same position) cost $5? Or can/is the cost be what I name?
Remember this is all hypothetical ;)

COMMISH NOTE:

I also added 1 slot to the bench. This slot is for your Injured player designation. This morning when I tried to lace B Jacobs on IR, the site wouldnt let me, giving me instead the error message "Healthy Players cannot be placed on injured status." With the GTS RB ouot for 4-5 weeks with a sprained MCL, I dont see hbim as fitting the definition of "healthy". Jacobs is officially listed as "qquestionable". The minimal designation I set for allowing the injured status.

Sarge, I am having difficulty setting my lineup right now. When I try to set it AOL tells me healthy players aren't allowed on the IR (Eli).
If you could go in and set it that would be great, since you could bypass the AOL settings. I would like:
QB: Huard (I have to start him if Eli is indeed hurt)
RBs: McGahee, Portis, Peterson
WR: Boldin, Moss, Ca. Johnson
TE: Winslow
K: Kaeding
Def: Jacksonville

check the league message board...

you have to start Huard regardless. You claimed "Injury Priority" to jump to the front on F/A and by definition that means starting the acquired player.

As for player status, the NFL apparently chagned to Fri, the deadline for declaring players as "OK", "Probable", "Questionable",etc etc.

An outstanding week for some players so far: Carson Palmer (40), Steve Smith (36), Chad Johnson (35), Derek Anderson (35, unowned), Jamal Lewis (30), Braylon Edwards (29).

none of these are on my team. I only have Joey Galloway (28), Rudi Johnson and Willie Parker (both 22) and a total of 130+ points and still don't look like a lock for a win with my opponent having Jamal Lewis + McNabb/Maroney/Randle El/Gates still to go with just 70 pts behind. a great matchup in the RAL West!

looking over your roster...I dont see many options. You're not carrying a 2nd TE and you didnt try and get one via FA bidding for the week.

Looks to me, like you start LJ and take the 0 for him vs having an illegal roster and taking a 0 for the week.

Other option, would have been to have picked up a 2nd TE on Fri, when the inj reports came out.

I didnt see him out on Fri. :O
But knew he has been banged up. Should have, could have. So I didnt figure I had a move for this week. But was wondering for next week.

So can I just place a $1 bid on a TE next week and put him on IR spot?

Or bid $1 on TE and drop him.

OR trade you for the steal of the draft?

Or what are the other options?

Thanks

You can:

1) claim Inj Prior next week (assuming LJ is still listed as "Q" or worse), get 1st dip into the pool and pay $5 for whichever TE is available... (remember, if you claim Inj Priority...you MUST take a player of the same position as the injured player and you MUST start that player.)

2) You can submit a blind bid on a TE and hope you get him...

3) you can offer up a trade to someone.

4) Assuming LJ is still "Q" or worse, you can put him in your IR slot and not have to drop anyone. If he isnt listed "Q" or worse, you would have to drop someone to make roster space available.

Aside from the auction method of acquiring players, one of the things about this league I really like, is that because we dont go to an open FA period like most do, you absolutely HAVE to manage your team. Hitting the waiver wire, isnt "1st come-1st serve" and in the meantime, shaft some more schmuck who has to work and doesnt have i-net access during the day.

If you bid and dont get the player then can you bid on another player or can you bid 2 player of same postion but only win 1

When you submit your bids, you can order them in your priority sequence. The site will automatically try and execute your 1st choice first. If you lose that one, then it will look at your second choice, third and so on.

Sorry...apparently missed a part of the setup process.

You SHOULD be able to propose/accept trade offers now. Those offers will NOT be processed, until I finalize them. Trades may be "challenged" by other league managers. With 12 teams, and presumably 2 in any trade, that leaves 10 to "challenge". 5 such challenges, and the trade will not be allowed to go through.

Question:

As Deuce McAllister is likely out for the year, can I claim injury priority for him? I only have $2 in available funds but I would get $8 back from cutting him, which would cover the $5 fee.

Of course, this doesn't work if I have to put Deuce on IR...

Well if he is for certain out for the year I think it would be smart to cut him and get 1/2 your money back on him. If he's not (this is my interpretation of the rules) you could IR him and then skip your injury priority (which cost the automatic $5) and then blind bid on a player with your remaining $2.
That's what I think you can do, correct me if I am wrong with this assumption Sarge.

whether he is officially out for the yr or not, has no impact on the managers ability to drop him prior to week 6 and recoup 1/2 his salary. His official status for next week, impacts on whther or not IP can be claimed.

According to this link:

Deuce leaves with knee injury

we should know more later today. If you want to claim IP, let me know and if he "qualifies" (which I do not doubt he will), I'll drop him and adjust your monies accordingly.

Deuce McAllister, RB NO
News: According to a report on ESPN, Saints RB Deuce McAllister has a torn ACL in his left knee and will likely miss the remainder of the season. An MRI is scheduled for Tuesday to confirm that diagnosis. Officially, the Saints say only that McAllister has a left knee injury and will have an MRI. McAllister limped off the field in the second quarter of Week 3 against the Titans, aggravating the knee injury which has been ailing him during the early part of the season. He complained of a sore left knee to trainers on the sidelines.

That from cbssportsline. If you want to drop him and claim IP, just let me know. It'll be done.

Steven Jackson, RB, STL
Partially Torn Groin

Huddle Up: Rams' RB Steven Jackson has already been ruled out for Week 4 and could miss up to month after partially tearing his left groin muscle during Sunday's loss against the Bucs. According to reports Jackson was hurt while making a cut in the second half and tried to play through the discomfort but he was pulled from the game in the fourth quarter. Head coach Scott Linehan told reporters that the injury was "noticeable" but it didn't appear to be serious since Jackson was still able to play. Unfortunately an MRI on his leg revealed a partial tear in his groin muscle and the team's medical staff has said that he will be out for at least week. Rookie Brian Leonard will get the start in his place

So can IR him and get Brian Leonard?

If you want to, you have 2 basic choices (assuming you want to hang onto Jackson):

1) I/R him and claim IP to acquire another RB> IF you do that, you pay $5 for that other RB AND you MUST start that RB this week.

2) I/R Jackson, and bid on a RB whom you might or might not win. If you do this, you do NOT have to start that other RB.

The Automated Claim System will process no more than one claim on this request list. The Automated Claim System will try to process each of your claims in order, beginning with number one. As soon as it successfully processes a claim for you on this claim list, it will be finished with this list, and will look for any other lists that you may have created.

So if I put 3 TE on my claims list. It only allows me to get one. But what if I want to bid on another postion as well. How do I create another list?

Just create one list. Then sequence them in your desired order of priority. The site will automatically execute, one waiver transaction for each manager who submits a request, each and every week. It will execute them, in reverse oreder of standing, and from top down on your list.

I actually want to let Deuce just be cut (since I don't want to pick someone up for the IP that way--I will be getting someone via normal channels).

However, I DO want to IP for JP Losman, who I will also cut (see note below, pasted from AOL's site) and pick up Brian Griese.

Bills: Two weeks for Losman

THE NEWS
Head coach Dick Jauron re-iterated on Monday that J.P. Losman will be sidelined for at least two weeks after spraining his MCL in Week 3. "We have to wait to see how it responds, and they respond differently, so well wait to see on that." Jauron told the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. "I'm not optimistic. We think it will be two weeks."

rer 297..you dont. You create one list, and get one dip into the F/A pool per week. Thats it. One shot each week. Bid on as many players as you care to.

Why I dont open up the F/A and just let it be a free-for-all? I have never liked the fact, that this gives an immediate advantage, to someone who is either unemployed or has unrestricted computer access at work. The poor schmuck in the wrong time zone, or working feverishly at his desk/job site, gets royally screwed. So I dont like open waiver wires...at all.

DW----I'll execute your IP shortly, and then Golf, you have a choice to make. IF you excercise an IP claim, that is your pickup for the week and your list gets negated. Let me know what you want to do.

What GF is asking (and I'm in the same situation actually) is:

He wants to pick up a TE from a list. He ALSO wants to get a second player (say, dropping a RB for another RB), and have both transactions process.

I don't see where to create a second independent list either.

already cut Deuce and IRd Losman. Yes, you can IP for Losman.

In order to IP, the player being replaced must be listed as "Q" or worse, and must either sit in your IR slot or be dropped.

Since JP qualifies for the IR slot and we dropped Deuce from your roster yesterday...you're free and clear on IP'ing into either a QB or a RB. You chose a QB, Griese, and so yoiu got him. Since you got him via IP, you MUST start Griese this weekend.

One pick per week?! You are a mad man! ;) WOW! You being a DL leader, I would think you would allow more moves. ;) Boy did i mess up on my draft. Plans of one kicker, one DEF and so on is going to bite me in the a$$! Was planning on just dropping them on bye weeks and pick up someone new. But with only one pick per week that will be very tough. Lesson learned for next year. But would like to vote for next year. If a player is hurt you should be able to make a IR move and a normal FA move as well.

COMMISSIONERS NOTE:

If you have asked that a player be dropped and your salary be adjusted accordingly...make SURE in your waiver claims that you are NOT indicating to drop the player I have already removed from your roster! If your claim includes a drop for a player not on your roster, I do not know if the site will process the claim, since it cannot drop the indicated player.

I went back in and redid my claims to show "No Drop", after I removed Bulger from my roster and adjusted my remaining salary.

I do not accept responsibility, for waiver claims not processed, because of an indication to drop a player no longer on your roster.

Thank you for contacting AOL Fantasy Customer Service. All bids in the blind bidding would be considered hard bids, so in your example the player would cost the team the full $10 even if the next highest bid was only $5.
Please let us know if you have other questions.

So yes...when you bid, you are in essence placing a salary "offer" in front of that player. He'll accept it if its the highest, and he isnt going to let you know that a buck or 2 less would have done the job.

In another league...I had Green as one of 2 starting QBs, Warner on the bench. Now with Green out, and Leinert oput..Warner becomes a potentially solid start.

Is anyone other than Wiggs, claiming "Injury Priority" for this week? I'll need to know, in case oyu want the same player as Wiggs. (Since Wiggs would be the very last manager in order to execute F/A selections, due to reverse order of rankings.)

If noone else makes such a calim by noon Thursday, then wiggs you can let me know who you want in place of Leinart, and I'll put that player on your roster so as to preclude his going elsewhere via a higher bid.

couple weeks ago when he went out, no question but that he qualified. Delayed though?

Gonna put this to the league for vote. Never delt with a delay in IP claims, and the topic has never been addressed.

I'll "defer" to the leagues decision, but said decision needs to be made by late tomorrow eve, to allow for IP claims on Thurs and normal blind bid processing then on Fri.

*************************************************

Question re claiming "Injury Priority" for FA acquisition:

Should the league IP claim, be required to be made the same week a player goes down;

or

Should we allow a manager the option of taking a "wait and see" approach, before requiring them to bid $5 for a player they may not want for more than one week?

I say we can allow this. The manager might be able to afford the injury the first week, and can hope that his player might be back the next week. The next week he may have a bye and his player may not be back to fill in for the bye player, therefore causing the manager to pick up a player. He might not want to drop the injured or bye week player, and so he should have the choice to IP the injured player at a later date.
That being said, I don't think you should be able to send your player to IP the week he has a bye. (Example: Sending Ahman to the IP in week 10 if he's still hurt.) If he's already on the IP and his bye week comes up you should be able to keep him there.

I would vote no. It seems open to abuse by a manager who sees a hot free agent and wants him.

I'm not saying that's what Beezer is doing, I don't think he would do that, but it does open up the chance of it happening.

At the same time, it wasn't stated specifically in the rules so while I appreciate Sarge putting it up to a league vote, he would be within his rights, IMHO, to decide which ever way he wants.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said Monday there is an "excellent chance" RB Ahman Green will return against Jacksonville in Week 6.

Given that report, it looks unlikely that an IP for Green would be acceptable. HOWEVER, the question still stands, re a manager waiting to claim IP, since it was never put forth for discussion prior to this.

I'd be inclined to think this should not be allowed as well. As Frick stated, there seem to be too many ways this could be exploited for advantage. The injury priority rule is in place to aid competitive balance. While it could be argued that I could definitely use some "balance", as a general rule this seems like a bad idea.

Please drop Green and I will put in my bids for an F/A during normal processing. Thanks.

I'm still leaving this open to discussion, since it had never been brought up before. If you're willing to for go IP, you can indicate to drop Green or whomever you choose, normally. You'd only need for me to drop him early, if you need the monetary adjustment to enable your intended bid on a player.

I would say that it should in general be allowed. I can easily see a situation where a player is expected to be out for a week or two and then it turns out he's gone longer. Plus, what if you have two people critically injured at once? We only allow one transaction per week...

I would say that if someone is out for the season he has to be replaced as soon as possible. if he is out for a few games we should be able to wait and see.

because of that I vote for "wait and see".

this is what I have done with Terry Glenn and I am currently doing with Travis Henry, Rudi Johnson, Chad Pennington and Dallas Clark.

I would propose that (at minimum) if you must drop someone, the rule be "as soon as allowed by the rules" rather than "in the week they are hurt". Again, the multiple injuries issue comes up.

(Personally, I would think that if you have multiple IP players in a week that you should be able to do those--the IP is there to provide a fallback for teams with catastrophic injuries. What could be more catastrophic than having two at once?

this discussion has been had before. Yes, in the NFL, IR is for the season. We have for the past two years, used a temp holding slot on the rosters and called it IR, for lack of a better term. THAT, is no change at all. THAT, is not the question being put forth...what we call it. The question is,

CAN an IP claim be used for a player who HAS been injured for a couple of weeks.

In this league (which is a one year redraft), why would you want to keep someone who is IR? Our IR is for injured players who will definitely not play in that given week's games. If it was a keeper league I'd understand it would be a different situation.

re 353: Wiggs, if you want to claim Injury Priority for Leinert, I need oyu to let me know TODAY, who you want in his stead. The system does not recognize priority claims and those have to be manually entered. So you either let me know today who you want and I'll put them on your roster, (in which case you'd need to delete any pickups you entered in the claiming system), or you'll get who you get based on the bid system.

Jamal Lewis = Doubtful, wearing a boot
Maroney - out last week, questionable this week
Hines Ward = out , but has a bye this week
Randal-El Doubtful

I would prefer to use Lewis if I can. And I have another question(which has probobly been answered before, If I were to pick up a player for Lewis, could I keep that player and drop another when Lewis comes back

Any of those players would be eligible for the IR slot on your roster. WHo would oyu want to take in their stead? (And yes, when your player comes back, you can drop anyone from the roster.) You simply MUST start the player you got, via the IP claim, immediately after getting them.

Injury Priority claims, HAVE to be of the same position as the injured player. Since you're asking for a player of a different roster slot, you would just be dropping Lienert (to recoup 1/2 his salary) and then have to go through the normal bidding process to pickup a player who, in this case, is not a QB.

Attempting to pass off fraudulent fines, gives the recipient of the fine, free access to your roster. Turning your roster into their "deep bench" for 1 week. This penalty is to be imposed ONLY, if the manager trying to impose the fake fine, also attempts to collect it in the form of personal funds.

Little "amateur" analysis here:

12 teams...3 4-team divisions.

3 of the top 4 Pts For scoreing teams are in the EAST division. I'm 5th in total Pts For in the league, and at 3-3, in 4th place in my division. 1st, in Pts Against. The leader of WEST division, 3-3, I have outscored by 25 points. Yet in pts Against, my opponents have outscored his by 87! Theleader of NORTH Division, 5-1, has outscored my by 25 points. My opponents hough, have outscored his by a whopping 135 points!!

For oyur part Beezer, only 1 team has more pts scored against it than yours, but conversely, only 1 team has fewer Pts For than you. Near the top in Pts Against and near the bottom in Pts For...pretty much dictates a rough road YTD.

In my gamne this past week...

Warner out in the 1st QTR, combined with Frick getting HUGE games from MJD, C Cooley and Welker...pretty much tells the story.

Wiggs got a great game from Stover, and solid performance across the board from the rest of hisa squad this past week. OTH, Wolfers RBs were largely disappointing and his WRs were so-so.

Slowhand, I think had his high score YTD last week against Beezer. LT finally showed up HUGE. TJ, GB D and Longwell all contributed significantly. For your part, Dante did what he could, but he was really the only one who "showed up" for you this past week.

Brewfan got a couple good performances from a few players and was fortunate enough that YRs squad pretty much took the week off.

Fontes saw HUGE games from 4 players (LJ like LT finally showed up to play), while Anteaters had a great game from Brady and a good game from one other player. But 2 guys cant carry a win, unless theose two games are i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e. (or, the two guys are LT/LJ and they both show up at the same time.)

The three division assignments were done randomly, and before we began bidding on any players. I just find it to be odd and to my obvious detriment, that the top 3 teams in Pts For, are in the same division. Then you have Brewfan ranked 4th in Pts For, and then myself.

Sorry Frick...but yes. You can cut Grossman if you want, but waiver action is done at 6pm Fri. That was the last chance, to recoup the monies. (In years past, we'd have had an open waiver period following the waiver requests, but with the bidding process now, when I inquired as to what "fixed price" to use for post bid transactions, I got zero response. So, did away with moves outside of the blind bid, other than the IP requests which take affect prior to the blind bids.)

You're allowed a 15 man roster, 16 if you have a player in our leagues IR slot. Empty that IR slot, ie the player returns, and you have to drop somebody to avoid having an illegal roster and forfeiting the game because of it.

Yah, I decided to take out all my frustration out on the 0-8 team. I feel like the Patriots, except my record still stinks.

Really? Peterson had to score 50 the same day Portis, Derek Anderson, Andre Davis and Winslow have good games?

Now McGahee will go out and put up 100 + 3 TDs, and everyone on my team will not score next week.

At least I started the highest possible receiving corps today instead of leaving my high scorer on the bench. :\

Sorry for venting after putting up the high score. My Colts just lost, my RIFC AAA #2 team just put together a 1-12 streak after starting 5-0 (double headers for those not in RIFC leagues), and I am still in last place in my division, here. This is a rough fantasy season for me.

Kyle gets Reggie Wayne (WR) and Lee Evans (WR)

I get Anquan Boldin (WR) and Clinton Portis (RB).

All players go with their salaries (which should mean I gain $2 in free agent money and Kyle loses it).

Kyle will hopefully be along to confirm.

Um, unfortunately I do some of my best thinking in the shower. And I had a horrifying thought. I transposed who is getting and who is receiving the salary in the above trade.

For some reason I thought I was giving up $52 in salary and getting $50, which would be peachy. But that's not the case. I'm actually getting $52 and giving up $50. (I think Kyle made the same mistake.)

Which wouldn't be THAT big a deal, except that AFTER yesterday's waiver claims (Mike Furrey $1 for Jerry Porter), I only have $1 in cap space left.

I throw myself on the mercy of the court, with a couple of options:

1. Invalidate the Furrey/Porter claim, so that I would have $2 left and $0 left after the trade.

2. Upon Kyle's mercy, he'd throw me $1 in cap space so that I'm not over the cap. (He's got plenty.)

3. Drop anvils on my head, declare the trade invalid, and make Kyle and me work it out by the trade deadline.

What this does, is to nullify the trade and result in a "fine" for exceeding the salary cap. Sorry, but the trade deal is moot, and your remaining monies = 0.

Since you lack the funds to go through with the trade, it cannot be completed. (Since our F/A is blind bidding, it could be argued that you didnt know if you would get a F/A at the time the trade deal was made/accepted. That however, is no different from the process used when bidding to staff the rosters in the first place. Outstanding bids, count against your cap money, unless/until that bid is trumped.)

got your email Kyle. I'll only say that you have the dollars figured correctly. This offer, is accepted, would not violate any roster values. In fact, if accepted and approved, you'd both be at $2 remaining.

HOWEVER, this trade would not be culminated in time for this weeks games. Once accepted, league managers have to have an opportunity to review, consider and determine if they wish to veto the trade. 5 vetos, and the trade is shelved.

This will be a wild finish to the year.

Right now there is 4 teams (Frick, Sarge, Slowhand, Kyle) that are set up to be 5-5 after this week, but the wild card would be Youngroman at 6-4. And he's tied for 1st in the west with Scarecrow.
Wiggs and GolfFreak have some comfortable leads in their divisions (3 games), so I think they should feel safe.

One of the 4 5-5 teams will be 6-5 next week as Slowhand and Frick play. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Well the only game in question this week is Brewfan (Golffreak) and Sarge. Sarge needs a Denver shut out or Elam to get hurt and not kick to win. GF just needs Elam to hit a FG. It'a likely this game won't finish with Elam only getting 1 PAT, so I am going to give it to GF.
Unless someone has a DJ Hackett type of performance (from last week), the winners thus far will win, and the loser will lose. (Sound prophetic, huh?)
This means if you are 4-7 after this week you are basically mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
Slowhand and I play next week (both 6-5) and one of us will win, meaning one will have a 7-5. It will take a lot for a 4-7 team to make it, but hold your heads up high, the Rockies did it. If there is one team who has a good shot of going 7-7 and making the playoffs it will be in the west. There is the possibility of a 3 way tie out in the west. But that would take a crazy turn of events.
Honestly, I hope that there are 8 7-7 teams at the end of this. That would just cause for some crazy, crazy endings.

Plaxico Burress and Braylon Edwards were on fire the 1st half which kept me in this thing. After losing the $61 man. (Steven Jackson) Now maybe if the Rams werent always behind he could break free.

Even though my record reflects poorly, I dont feel bad at all about the season. With AJ being out virtually the entire season for me, my RBs taking turns being out, Bulger under-performing then being hurt and Big Ben underperforming when I needed him most.....*shrug* Such is life in FF.

I dont believe this season, disproves that top tier WRs can win the same as top tier RBs, even though I'm out of the playoff hunt. Like you said, with Nr2 in Pts For, one would not expect a record below .500, buts thats where I am.

Hey, you know what would be great? My team sucking some more. That would be great.

*sigh*

At least I was right that Benson would suck or get hurt. It just took too long to make any difference.

So wiggs, I guess you are looking to finish the season New England Patriot style. You didn't tell anyone who went last night that you've clinched and that they can rest up for the playoffs?
I needed Ryan Grant to score 2 TDs like Lincoln needed to see that play. (Thank you Micheal Scott, I hope some of you get that reference.)

I will do that YR....

unfortunately, your post is time stamped well after the rosters locked for todays games, and that means you have an illegal roster. The penalty for that is stiff, out of necessity, and has been enforced before (though not as yet this year). I'm afraid, you'll have to forfeit this weeks game. (I'm apologetic about it, because I dont like having to make that decision, but it is consistent with the one I made a yr or two ago when a manager went into a weeks games with a short roster. Cost him a game then, to be fair, a long roster has to cost a game now.)

sarge - no problem. that are the rules. it looks like I am out of the playoffs anyway.

I need to rethink my strategy for next year. I learned this year that not all players are draftable even if they are worth only $1. add a few injuries to key players and I am where I am: no playoff team.

You and me both YR. Injuries plagued my "piece meal" RB corps, and with AJ being out better than half the year....my season was toast by week 4 or 5.

since Rudi's deadline also passed, i guess there is no "compliance"-option any more. as I said earlier, it does not matter if I win this week, I am out of the playoffs and that is all that counts. since JackHammers is also out of the playoffs the outcome of our game does not matter too.

Sarge, RE Playoffs:
If the top seed and the wild card are in the same division can they play eachother? Or are we setting it up so that if the WC and #1 are in the same division that the 2 and WC will play and the 1 and 3 will play? Right now we don't have to worry about that, but if cdiddy wins and BrewFan loses, cdiddy holds the tie break of winning thier matchup in week 7. (coincedently BrewFan's last loss) Since I have clinched the Wild Card and cdiddy and I are in the same division, this would be a possibility.

Bah, first year of missing the play-offs. My lack of QB production was hurtful, although the QB I was targeting probably would have been worse, Young.

Although my team has started to round into shape, just started my charge to late.

Congrats to the 4 managers who made the play-offs.

Sarge, are you going to set up a play-off for the losers? AOL allows you to set up multiple play-offs, see the RIFC's toilet bowls. 5v8 and 6v7 for 5th through 8th place. Considering how close the league was in the middle it should be interesting.

There is an on-line, live auction site available, that is free of charge. I'm REALLY hoping, to find a date/time that can accomodate all of us, to do the auction that way next year. Takes about 2-3 hours total time, and we go from empty rosters to fleshed out.

Few things we need to discuss for next year btw:

1) Free Agency.

I for one, dont care for the blind-bid F/A method. Too often, a manager can get the player for $1 or 2, and that to me seems to negate in no small way, the money management aspect of the league which is a HUGE part of what makes this league so different.

I really thought that was the primary issue (for me at any rate) with this years process.

If others hold other or similar concerns... PLEASE speak up about those concerns! If you dont, it wont get discussed and it wont get resolved. No resolution, means you'll probably have the same issues/concerns next year.

Free on-line auction site

We could set it up, allowing a max of 60 seconds without a competing bid, meaning the top bid on the board wins that player.

I did a couple mock auctions on this site a year or two ago, and it works quite well. IIRC, YR is in Europe, and the issue is one of time zones. Been a long time since I was in Europe with the Army, but as I recall, Central Europe (Germany, then WEST Germany) was 6 hours ahead of Eastern time. So noon Eastern would be 6 pm there. If thats right, we could hopefully setup for a Sunday Auction, noon Eastern time, which would hopefully allow all to participate. I am NOT going to use a system which will disallow any of our returning managers from playing. Next season however, I will not have the time available to monitor the auction using the system we have been. A less intrusive, less manual method needs to be found. I'm open to and I'm asking for, suggestions/alternatives etc.

I'm still going to shoot for a noon to 2pm eastern start time for an auction via the site. But before we do that next year, I'll set up a couple of mock auctions for all to get an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the process.

I'm all for an on-line auction, but agree a couple of mock drafts would be helpful.

I've really enjoyed this league (even tho my 2 stud RBs plan failed miserably)and thought most aspects went pretty well, but can see the FA acquisition might need to be tweaked. Are you thinking a set fee would be better,or are there other options?

I for one...would be inclined to favor returning to the set price of $5 for F/A signings, and just leave it in reverse order of standings each week.

That would return the money management aspect of the initial roster auction to the game. Something I felt was lost, when F/As could be had for $1.

As a counter, make the minimum bid if we use blind bids, $3. That would allow a period after the bidding, with a set price of $5; for those managers who did not acquire someone via the F/A bid.

I still want to stay with the 1 acquisition/week limit. I think again, it gives this league a management aspect which doesnt exist in most. It also, means the F/A pool, still has value 10,11 even 12 weeks into the season.

Cant agree with that. IP already allows you to move "to the the front of the line". I cant see it, also allowing a 2nd acquisition. If thats what the league wants, thats what the league would get. It is however, something I would oppose.

Well, here's my argument for it:

It's very possible, early in a season, to have two or even three injuries in a week, as I did early this season when Deuce went down, Losman got hurt--notwithstanding that that was probably a blessing--and I believe a week later someone else went down for a couple weeks.

The problem that you have isn't necessarily that you need to dip into the FA pool to replace those guys right away, but with bye weeks and other normal issues getting in the way, replacing those guys becomes a torturous process that can completely ruin a season.

A couple suggestions to temper things:

1. If you claim an IP designation, your second FA pick goes to the end of the line.

2. You can only claim a second player if the one you IP for is actually in the NFL injured reserve (i.e. out for the year).

I agree that I don't want free agents to be a free-for-all where people are sitting around their computer trying to grab free agents. A weekly transaction schedule is a Good Thing.

OK...I could possibly be persuaded IF we installed your suggested rule e the Official I/R list.

IF you Inj Prior claim is for a player who IS officially placed on the NFLs I/R...then and only then, could you potentially take a 2nd player from F/A that week.

All other rules re our IP, would still apply. IE...the taken F/A for the IP Claim, must be of the same position as the injured player, that F/A MUST start the following week. And in order to take a 2nd dip into the pool this week....the IP claim must originate from a player whose injury has placed them on the NFLs IR list.

I would further suggest, a higher fixed price for a 2nd player. Say $7 vs the $5 we have used in the past. IOW, getting 2 dips into the pool in a week, regardless of circumstances, really alters the dynamics of the game. I think, some "cost" needs to be attached to that altering.

Would you want to put a limit on the number of times you can use a 2nd waiver pickup during the season. Part of the challenge of drafting is not having too many byes on the same week so you can utilize your bench. I like that strategy aspect which made the 1 pickup per week interesting.
543sarge33rd

I see your point SC, but in all honesty, I think a limit would already be in place from a prasctical standpoint, when limiting that 2nd pickup option to ONLY being available IF the manager claimed IP and the player on whose behalf the IP was claimed, is now on the IR (Officially) AND if that 2nd pickup has a higher than standard price tag...budget constraints will have put in place a limit from any practical vantage. (The 1st player from IP costing $5 and a 2nd costsing $7...makes $12 in one week. Do that twice during the year along with 2 other "normal" FA pickups...and you've spent 12+12+5+5+$34. Not many managers exit the draft, with $30 in their teams coffers.)

In the 2 play-off games:

CDiddy continued his winning ways by closing out the season on our WC Team from Kyle and Anteaters edged out Brewfan in a close one.

So...the league Championship game finds CDiddy vs Anteaters as Kyle plays Brewfan for the nr 3 slot.

Consolation bracket:

Sarge vs Slowhand for the nr 5 slot,

Jackhammers vs Loco for nr 7,

Fontes vs Hooterville for nr 9 and

Frick for YR for nr 11.

OK gang...I'm back. And I immediately notice a problem.

Wiggs....we have never allowed player pickups once post-season begins. Its my fault for not disabling the system prior to my departure, but I got side-tracked with all the things that needed doing for the trip. You added Stecker and dropped Berrian. There in lies the problem. You won your game in the league finale, by 13.60 points. Stecker, scored 20.40 and Berrian scored 1.7. Making your correct score: 112.5 - 20.40 + 1.7 = 93.8 vs Anteaters: 98.90.

ANTEATERS is declared the league champion.

Wiggs, sorry I forgot to freeze the system, when we have not once in the past allowed a pickup after the regular season was over. This was the first X-mas in 4 years that I had the opportunity to go home over, and if that somewhat got in my way, I'll apologize. Besides which, you're starting roster for the game was short a man, and should have been indicated as such by the site. An illegal roster...is a zero for score.

Here is my two cents!
I value both of you as fantasy managers that I have played in multiple leagues with. In all my years of fantasy sports once playoff start, players cant be added off the wire. But I also see there was no posting that this was illegal. What would the outcome have been not using the player Wiggs picked up but using his original roster? Did I win?

And as for this "Lastly...if anyone else feels they can do better as commish...step forward.

Well I step foward!!! I look way better then Sarge!!! ;) You have done a great job. Cancel the great job its more like a good job. Due to the roster frezze issue. ;P

Its was a very fun year and hope I can come back next year!!!!

I dont think you have done a poor job at all. I think you have done a great job. I just have never played in a league that doesnt allow play off teams to pick up players. That was my whole strategy. Truly wiggs, with the dominant season you had, I was frankly saddened that the title wasnt going to be yours. You had an INCREDIBLE team which for the most part simply walked all over your weekly competition. That you fielded a team of 9 vs a team of 10, and still outscored that team, is testimant of how strong your season was.

Busy at work atm, but as time allows I'll search thru this forum and see if I cant find where we disallowed FA post-season. It stems from season 1, and was never changed/addressed. The NFL has a cutoff datae after which players added to the roster cannot play. It was that cutoff, this "rule" was meant to reflect.

I have said repeatedly over the past 3 years, the biggest difference IMHO, between this and many other leagues, is that this league abasolutely-positively REQUIRES one to m-a-n-ag-e their team, if they hope to succeed. Auto-pilot, simply doesnt get it done. This is partly due to the level of knowledge of the participants and partly due to the format of the league. With scoring to the .04 point level, 1 yard more/less of passing by ones QB vs your opponent, can be the difference between a "W" and an "L". Combine that with the budget restrictions and the 1 F/A wk restriction, and you find a scenario in which you MUST pay close attention to bye-weeks, injuries and bench depth at key positions. I dont believe a manager in this league, is afforded the luxury of sitting on a player they have no intention of using, simply to prevent another manager from acquiring that same player. We lack the overall bench depth to allow such a tactic. And I'm sure we have all seen this tactic used to great length in some other leagues.

I'd like to thank all of you, for your participation this year. Commishing for a league of active, participative and talented managers, is MUCH more enjoyable (though at times demanding), than is commishing for a league of managers who dont much give a hoot.

I'll set up a mock auction draft at that on-line site in the next few weeks. Watch for an announcement here. WHen I get ready to set it up, I'll post here ahead of time, preciselt WHEN I will go in and set it up. I cant make it private, without paying, so it will be a public mock. Meaning, anyone can sign up for the draft. By telling you ahead of time, precisely what time and on what date I'll set it up, you have the opportunity to ensure your ability to participate.

Thanks again to all of you, and BOL with next season!

I cant even find where we discussed league rules for year one. I went back to ESPN (host for our first year), and I can pull up all pertinent info re the league EXCEPT for the "RULES" tab! I get a "page error" for that one. Going back to Yahoo from last year, doesnt allow me to see the full "rules" section, just an over-view. (Which doesnt address roster freezes beyond the weekly freeze.)

Let's make note, to discuss and clearly define whether or not we want to allow post season F/A.

Feel free, everyone, to add to the topics to be discussed for next season. I'm (daring to?) assume, that we will see all 12 managers returning? (At least intending to at this point??)
