Draft Rationals
Please try to participate in the Rationals. They are a fun way to look back at the end of the draft to see what others were doing/thinking.

Everyone using me as a DP or relying on me for a TM, please be aware that I have a very busy day tomorrow with meetings and the like. Hopefully, Kyle will be around to handle DPs and TMs.

I'll be using my Q to make my picks. All are DPs. Please just take the top player. I can check in a few times, but it will most likely be to refill/add to my Q.

Ok, I have Electro's Queue, but I seem to be getting two different Kafe drafts mixed up...

In this draft, this morning he says in Post#42 "Don't pick the same position twice please"

Problem is, he left two RB's in his queue, unless perhaps I took the player he thought he would get.

I am actually ticked off that that happened. I talked to my wife to make my pick, and she is not too familiar with the site. She also told me that I had 3 minutes, so I panicked and just rattled off a name, because I thought my queue was dry. I had 3 hours. Not to happy with that pick.

1.12 Reggie Bush, RB, NO

I had the option of picking 10, 12, 13, or 14. I wanted to get a RB with the first pick. I thought there was a dropoff after the first 11 RBs. I also wanted to get a RB with my 2nd pick, and I thought there was a dropoff after Edgerrin James who I thought would go around pick 2.03. I was afraid James would be gone by pick 2.05. So I chose pick 12 hoping that at least one of my top 11 RBs would still be around.

Two of my top 11 RBs were still on the board. Bush and Henry. I think Bush will improve his numbers from his rookie season. He is used as a runner, receiver, and sometimes returns punts. He was much more productive during the 2nd half of last season. I expect that production to continue this season. Bush has the talent to make big plays.

I think he was going to be very busy today. Still, no excuse for a time out at this point in the draft.

Plenty of positions left to fill and plenty of players left on the board.

No matter, we're on a good pace to finish on time. Something that didn't look possible a week ago.

No it was not. Thanks for the catch Frick. I looked at yesturday's posts to see if he has said anything but did not. I'll take the next guy in his q. I believe that will empty it so if he wanted the guy who was taken then he will be able to (if boikin doesn't).

Are we keeping the clock on the weekend? I think we should. I personally have no access during the week work hours, and I have done my best to keep the draft moving. In my opinion, people should use queue's to keep it moving on the weekend. It would be fair for people like me and I believe Promize who have no access at work. This is not a pointed post, I am just stating an opinion.

Not I. He'll have to pick whenever.

But I do know that in the RIFC, if you have a current missed pick and it becomes your turn again, you get skipped. Tree has checked in and we know he'll pick tonight when he gets back to his hotel, so we could conceivably wait on him.

As long as he gets caught up tonight.

AOL reads... Your league rules do not allow for owners to make preseason player adds/drops.
Please contact your commissioner for this type of transaction.

kyle... I think you will have to change preseason settings before we can add players.

I can't find where I would change that rule but I did find where I can add players to the rosters. Once the draft is finished I will add the players to the rosters. (Shouldn't take more that an hour). It looks like we will finish the draft with more than a week to spare, so getting that done shouldn't cause too large a problem.

Kyle, to allow us to add our own players, do the following:

1. Go to Commissioner -> Rules Setup -> Deadlines
2. Under Preseason, where it says "During the preseason, league members are allowed to make their own free agent acquisitions," choose Always .
3. At the bottom of the page, press the Save button.

Everyone should then be able to enter our own players during the preseason. You can change it back after the draft ends if we are doing a postdraft waiver process. This method is working in the AOL league for which I am the commissioner. I hope that helps.

That wouldn't be necessary if all managers would leave ques on a regular basis. It's very frustrating to have 7 picks accomplished in one hour, then two picks in seven hours.
Granted, there are times in a draft when a que is unrealistic to acieve an objective, but those instances should be the exception, not the rule.

So if your que is empty, or unavailable, and you're going to be away from your computer for any length of time, you need to check yourself.

I assumed that something had happened to you Tree. In the 4-5 years I've been drafting on the boards and Kafenatid I can't recall you ever timing out before. Between that and the fact that you normally pick fairly quickly, I didn't make my pick right away when you timed out.

I do agree that it is extremely annoying to have the draft not make any progress for nearly a day and then see 10-14 picks made in less than a couple of hours.

I'm going to reload my queue so feel free to use it if/when I come up. I'm going to be busy playing with the kids today.

What's really inexcusable, is a guy on the end holding up the draft/timing out...........again.

We are still on schedule to finish on Thursday or Friday as long as we complete 2 rounds a day. Unless Kyle thinks this is too late to finish the draft, I see no reason to lower the clock. Even though I have no problem with a 3 or 4 hour clock, some people like Electroman have no access to the internet at work and may be unfairly penalized by a shorter clock. We completed about 2 rounds a day during weekdays last week. I feel the only reason to lower the clock is if we do not complete 2 rounds a day on Monday and Tuesday.

I tend to agree with TD, if it's not broke, don't fix it.

If we go too fast, we run the risk of outrunning someone's q, and waiting anyway.

I'm curious who made my Randle El pick for me. I saw the e-mail that I was up and by the time I got over to Kafenatid I clicked on my queue to be unavailable. I wanted to rethink the pick and look at who look at who the following managers might take. By the time I made up my mind that I wanted Randle El, someone had picked him for me. He was the top rated WR on my draft board so I'm not unhappy with the pick, but I'm curious how someone was able to pick for me after I made my queue unavailable.

What I can do is delete your's and TD's picks give you who you wanted at the top of your q and retake TD's pick who was on the top of his q.
Next time, leave your q open and not just the first-only option. Then leave a message on the forum or your DP's e-mail and tell them what you want to happen.
Also if we arn't to round 20 by Wednesday's open I am going to lower the clock to 4 hours. I would like to get the draft finished before the weekend and right now we are on pace to finish on the 1st. I am here and debating on who to take. Today at work 1/2 the building had power and the other half didn't. Irony is the 1/2 without power had A/C and the 1/2 with didn't. I had power and no A/C, so I am sitting in the library basking in the cool refreshing air.

Unfortunately for all "business" activity our server, which also runs our phones, was in the 1/2 of the building without power. I there was unable to look to see who went, what I want, and what has transpired. Please forgive my delay in picking.

We are effectively into round 22. Once boikin makes his pick we will basically be 1/2 over with that round.

Valkyrie, the next manager without a Q will be up and we will have 36 picks to go. I believe we can get this finished by Thursday night - Friday morning, and avoid having to pick over the holiday weekend. I will be in town then, but I know this is a popular traveling holiday.

Once the draft is finished the players that were undrafted will go on waivers for 48 hours. During that time you may make a claim for a player through me and at the end of the 48 hour time period I will award players to the claimer in REVERSE 1st round draft order. All dropped players will go on waivers for 24 hours and all unclaimed players will go off waivers. At the end of the waivers period I will unlock managers and allow them to add and drop freely. This is how the RIFC is doing it, if you care to check this go to this link. Thanks for making this a successful draft after a ROCKY start :)

In case anyone was interested, that is the total elaspsed time for each manager, assuming that clock was 6 hours, didn't stop on any weekends and was stopped from 11PM to 7AM. I will add a note that Kyle's 2+ day pause is not added into that total, other wise his time would be significantly higher.

The time format is Days:Hours:Minutes.

A bit of both, it's a feature that I think KKB would have a fairly easy time adding, but I could be completely wrong.

I copied the data from each manager's page (which includes the time stamps) into Excel. I then sorted by pick and subtracted the pick time from the prior pick. The hardest part of the exercise is getting the formatting correct.

I then went through the list and looked for any time that was after 23:00 and before 07:00 and set those to 0, or adjusted the elapsed time to account for the clock stopping. There could be some minor errors in that step. I also maxed out the ET as 6 hours. All of the picks that were in a trade, or following a trade had 0 ET KKB's site doesn't display the time stamp for the trade picks.

I agree with fugazi on both post. This is a friendly, yet competitive league. The draft is (as good as being) over and we are done with plenty of time for waivers to be processed and such.

mjd has a point boikin, people have been complaining, and for some good reason. You could have let us know before the draft or during the draft at some point that you were only able to pick between certain times. You could have also just as easily left me an e-mail and a queue with instructions. Just a heads up for next year.

For those of you who are interested in giving some of your insight (as I know alot you of are gifted fantasy minds ;) ) on how this season will turn out in your mind I will open up a draft recap thread. It will be under the same caveat as the RIFC's thread and the same as what the AAA #1 will use once/if they finish thier draft. The link to the recap
