Yeah, I will need to set up Kafenatid and get everyone in first, and I can't do that until tomorrow, so lets move the start time back to Wednesday. That will give everyone a chance to get signed up and ready to go.

If we get everyone in before then, we can always start without a clock, starting with Frick.

Sound good?

I will also have to enter all the keepers in as well.

Just make sure to bold it up and CTRL-F this thread to see if he is a keeper.

Anyways, if you want to go, pick away Frick!!! Get this baby started!

I will start the 6 hour clock tomorrow, 10:00 EST.

Clock will normally run:

Weekdays: 8:00 AM - 11:00 PM EST

Weekends there will be no clock, which may change depending on our drafting speed, but based on last year I think we will be ok.

Dang...late last night I was thinking I should offer my two second round picks to Frick for his second and 5th or 6th rounder so that I could pick up Mendenhall.

Unfortunately he had JUST picked when I finally got on to see if I could swing a deal.

Schaub or Mendy was a tough choice for me, hopefully it works out.

I see Wiggs took Marvin. I had his name entered into the pick selection, but couldn't pull the trigger. I'm a Colts fan, but having both WRs didn't seem rationale. Assuming Marvin is fully back and healthy and Manning doesn't miss any time, this could be a huge steal, but there is also a fair amount of risk, overall a great pick in my mind.

Sarge, your post was pretty clear, and it looks as though whoever made that pick for round 11 followed your instructions perfectly. Round 9 was a different position than Round 10. Round 11 came and a new player was picked, as no specification was made for that round's selection.

For everyone: I think there is some danger letting everyone be your designated picker if you want to include a list of qualifications with your picks. Please just have 1 or 2 pickers, and leave very specific instructions with them so that there is less chance of miscommunication.

To all....my apologies. So my next question becomes, why was 11.04 picked for me instead of waiting??? Too late now, but another RB most certainly would NOT have been my pick there, when I have no backup WR's yet. *shrug*

Sarge, be thankful you aren't in the RIFC AA league I'm commish of. We've already had to delete half a round, we waited about 36 hours for a pick, and we're still in the first of 24 rounds. Our estimated finish time is around Halloween right now!
So those guys in that league would kill for that extra RB right now.
In all seriousness, I know how frustrating it can be. Its the one tough part of kafenatid, which is otherwise awesome. But it happens to all of us and your squad looks pretty good right now. (I assume they'll all be injured sometime this week).

yep....3rd D. Gonna try playing 'matchups' and see if it isnt 'easier' to pick the right "D" vs trying to second guess which WR is gonna 'go off' that week.

All stems from that 11.4 debacle. Had I picked then vs the queue, I'd have gone either WR or D. Was debating 'starting' the D-run vs coming into the middle of it. Had I started it, I'd have afar stronger D than I got and would have held to the more traditional approach of multiple WRs and RBs to play matchups. Since I got 5 RBs early, it meant being a little behind on the WRs. So I have my 'core' grp which barring disaster, wont much change week-to-week. The D, is likely to change on any given week.

Reading through some of the comments for last year, we had a couple of managers asking for waivers to be open before the first game of the week, and ultimately we ended up allowing pickups before that first game. (Ironically, Frick was one of two managers asking for waiver pickups to be allowed! Frick, why the turn in opinion this year?!?)

I think going on precedent is what we need to do here. If we allowed it last year, there might have been the presumption that it would be allowed again this year.

Last year we submitted claims on the Wednesday before the season began in reverse draft order, and then closed off the waiver wire until the waiver claim period the following Wednesday.

So...Waiver claims may be submitted to me until noon on Wednesday September 3rd. Claims will be processed in reverse draft order. Then all players will be made available until the start of the first game on Thusday, September 4th. After the start of that game, all players will be locked until the following Wednesday waiver claim.

Does this seem fair to everyone? (This is how it was done last year)

Barilko, perfect. I wasn't advocating for no waiver moves. I just didn't want open moves.

Drafting a player, finding out he got hurt in a preseason game and then seeing someone has poached his back-up because they happened to hear the news before you isn't what I care for.

I was just yanking your chain Frick!

Promize, I have finished off everyone's roster entry. I was just waiting to complete the entry of the results until we have an idea of what we want to do with the waiver wire for that first week. The moment I click enter the results, we have only 2 days to decide, as then all players become available, so I was holding back until we get a true sense of what we want to do.

I could start the league as it is, lock rosters and say open claims begin at a certain time, but I want to see if we want:

A. Open Claims at an exact starting time.
B. Waiver Claims as detailed in Post 136
C. No Adds at all until after week 1.

I guess we can vote here.

I would vote B.

ndeed they are there Barilko. I had 2 live drafts slated for yesterday, and both went straight to hell on me. 1, the commish changed the host site, and fox sports wouldnt allow me to log in sing a hotmail account. Called it a "reserved domain" name so I'm s.o.. on that one. The other, at yahoo, was a 20 team w/IDP. Commish set that up with only 90 seconds for your picks, and when yahoo loaded for me, not a single IDP showed on my draft board. 3 autopicks later, I said to hell with it. When it was all said and done, the site had auto selected for me, 3 defensive "starters", that dont even have contracts to PLAY in the NFL this year. That one, I also put squarely on the commish. So, I was sorta "ready", for this to go all to hell too, since it seemed to be one of those kinds of days. lol Glad to see that such isnt the case. :)

As further proof of:
1) how wrong it can go and
2) Challengers 50-50-90 rule which states: Any time you face a 50-50 proposition, there exists a 90% probability you will make the wrong choice:

Predraft, Barilko had asked me about QB trades and I said I wasnt sure though Warner was a viable trade option with the questions surrounding AZ and Leinart. So, I drop Warner, take Leinart with my 1st draft selection and Warner is getting the starting gig. :(

Alright, since no other comments were brought forth, that is definitely what we will do, as that is what I had thought as well.

I will not be around at noon to lock add ons for teams today, so remember, you may not claim any player who is in a game that has already started, even if its only by one minute.

Yahoo time stamps all adds, so it will be easy to tell who is eligible, and who was late.

barilko is right- I had smith- at the time he was starting, and there are no more left. I have sent out numerous trades but no one is biting.

I really think we need to rework this league- I was just looking and WRs are basically useless in this league. 100 and no td is 5 points.

Also we have 12 teams and there are only 32 possible qbs- 2 per team start- that is 24 that leaves 8 remaining- with bye weeks there arent even enough qbs to start 2 qbs every week. Also because it is so slim no one will trade a qb.

While I do agree that we need to possibly look into getting our WR's more valuable, I love the fact that we start 2 QB's each week, as it makes this league much different than any other.

Everyone calls the NFL a QB driven league, and I think our league mirrors that by placing a premium on our QB's.

But as stated, I do think our WR's are a little undervalued. (And this coming from a manager who has weak WRs!)

I don't have a problem with upping WR values, and by default TE values.

I love being in a 2 QB league, it helps break up the monotony of RB/RB drafts, except for the 1 daredevil who went RB/WR or maybe the crazy who went WR/RB. Since QB is arguable the most important player on the field, is it realistic that a winning team should wait until round 9 to draft a starting QB? I do agree that it makes fighting for QBs tough, but there are more than 32 QBs in the league, but the randomness in picking the right back-ups is open for debate.

well right now for week 1 I did not have a 2nd QB because of Alex Smith losing his job and there is not anythnig to pick up. I realize that QB is important position and all, but it just makes it impossible to compete when there arent enough players at that position.

well, now that brady is done I'm in the same boat Wiggs. But I still like the 2 QB league. Its a great challenge.
Plus, if QBs are so important, how come no one drafted Flacco? Its a keeper league. You had to figure he had a decent shot to start this season if not in the future.

I have a starting QB to trade for a RB, or maybe a WR.

My starting QB's are:

Big Ben
Jon Kitna
Matt Schaub
Joe Flacco

Of course, what you offer me will determine which QB I am willing to give up!!!

Wiggs...as for having no QB's, I am guessing that it was partly due to your own draft choices.

1st Round Picks:

Vince Young
Mark Bulger
Matt Schaub
Bret Farve

Second round picks:

Jason Campbell
Trent Edwards
JaMarcus Russell
Kurt Warner

Third round picks:

Brodie Coyle (who is now of course injured)
Chad Pennington

4th Round:

Matt Ryan

6th Round:

JT O'Sullivan

8th Round:

Kyle Orton

And then of course a guy like Flacco went undrafted.

Anyways, it shows that there were lots of QB's out there to be drafted, of course we overpaid to get them, but that is the fun of the QB draft. Do you pick up a true WR2 or an average QB to help the team?

Some guys stockpiled the QB's while others waited.

That being said, there were some injuries that happened, and now there are QB's once again available.

I emailed my own personal waiver claims to a non Reggie White gurupie early this morning before any waiver claims came in.

Deadline is Wednesday noon to get your claims in, and it goes from last place team to first place team. Anything past noon will be deleted.

Once again, do not rely on the unreliability of Yahoo to send your claims, rather use my direct AOL EMAIL to ensure it gets in.

Without a doubt the only problem I have with this league is the WR is valued so low. Need to go standard 10 Rec Yards = 1 Point. I love the 2 QB system though.

Oh I agree Wiggs, and my list was just to point out that anyone could have drafted one of those guys to add, you could have added any of them to the Wigginator Team!!!

re: 172 I never thought about that waiver wire thing Russell, but it makes sense, as it would help the lower teams. In your example though, would the first place team from last year have top waiver claim for those first couple of weeks?

yes, the first place team would have the first waiver claim for the first couple of weeks. RIFC does it that way (although its a random draft order and its also snaked, no keepers).
I personally think it makes more sense to give the people with low draft picks some help (really only one claim because you go back to the end of the list once you pick someone up). As opposed to the team that has the slow start in the first weeks.
I understand the argument that it lends to parity in the league but with only a couple of weeks into the season, do we really know who will be the weakest team. With that reasoning we could just set the order everyweek based on who scored the least amount of points the week before.
Anyway,Just my opinion.
And actually, I think you (barilko) have the best perspective because you've been on both ends of the draft, right?

Yeah, I have to admit, drafting last year at the top of each round was much more pleasurable than drafting down at the end. I thank AP for that!

That being said, I found I was able to get some quality players down at the back of each round, surprised Schaub dropped to me, surprised at some of the other guys I was able to get, but it is a huge disadvantage being at the end of each round, and I think I will be hard pressed to repeat this year. Which I think is good for the league.

I would be ok with the scenerio you put forth Russell, provided it lasts for no more than 3 weeks total, and maybe more ideally, just 2 weeks. But taking into account that once you make a claim you go back down to the bottom of the claiming priority, that helps a lot too.

It looks like there is interest in bumping up the value of the WR's, so we will have to keep that in mind for future years.

I just noticed that two managers picked up players without going through the waiver claiming.

I am going to delete both pickups.

ALL PLAYERS ARE LOCKED AFTER THE START OF THEIR GAME. We can't let Yahoo do the waiver processing, as that would mean we would have to pay for the Plus league. Please email all waiver claims to my AOL address.

1 QB
2 RB
2 WR
2 TE
2 Def
2 K ;)

Yah, I think that would be unfair considering some teams have done their keepers based on QB's... BTW tweaking and balancing is dangerous in a keeper league... You can ask Sarge about that... People have already started building teams, and to change rules now wouldn't exactly be fair.

Plenty of QBs were available, and their backups before the season started, planning ahead should of been in the back of your minds with a two QB league.

just a correction on posts 172 and 177.
RIFC does the waivers the opposite of what I described. Worst to first ranking, reset each of the first 6 weeks, then it stops resetting and you go to the back of the line when you make a claim.
I should have known that considering I'm commissioner of one of the leagues.
Anyway, not sure how that affects my argument but there it is.

Waivers are from last place to first place.

Start at the bottom and work your way up, that will show you your waiver standings.

I could change the waiver positions on Tuesday, but that seems like creating work that isn't all that necessary, as you can just look at the last place and go up from there.

Is it just me, or was the officiating terrible today? The Chargers should have won the game, but were denied because of an early whistle. On the third down play before the game winning field goal for Indy, there was an obvious false start, yet they did not call it. Those are the two that stand out, and really affected the outcome of the game. That should never happen.

Some rule change thoughts. Discuss:

1. QB Waiver Claim Priority With this being a 2 QB league, we obviously realize the importance of our QB's. Thought: If one of your QB's goes down with an injury during a game, and his immediate backup is on the waiver wire, your waiver claim goes to the top of the list at the next claiming process. If his backup is already on another manager's roster, you do not get him.

2. Toilet Bowl Playoff: With Wiggs' team making a great push the past two weeks, it stands to be noted that he could have just laid down and taken a guaranteed Number 1 pick. KUDOS WIGGS! What if we were to create a 4 way toilet bowl playoffs, with the winner of that playoffs getting the number 1 overall pick the next year. A lot of leagues are doing this, and this would create interest and involvement among the bottom teams, REWARDING the bottom team who goes all out and tries to claim that pick. The last place team, should they not be the winner, would still get a nice consolation of the number 2 overall pick. After the winner of the playoffs, the draft order would then be reverse order of finish.

Thoughts on these two items? Would love to get some discussion going.

Also, following our conversation about adding more value to WR's, what about the thought of changing their points from 20 Receiving Yds/1 point to 15 Recieving Yds/1 point.

I don't see adding PPR as a viable option, as that will affect some of the RB's in our league more than the receivers.

With this change a WR who goes:

105 yds and 1 Touchdown will change from 12 to 14 points.

I'd like to see PPR. A guy who catches 5 passes for 72 yards, vs 1 for 72 yards...the first is getting you 1st downs on 3rd down more than liekly and THAT has clear value to a team.

Maybe something like .5 PPR.

I thought about that, but that directly affects our RBs as well, and maybe even moreso than the WRs. I just traded away Reggie Bush last year, and would never have done that knowing this rule was on the horizon.

I want something that affects the WR's more than it does the RBs.

What if the backup is Brad Johnson or Brooks Bollinger?:)

Idea #2 is great. The first one, I am not too sure. I will have to think about it. I am in favor of the WR thing also, but I would love to see it .10 points per yard, making it basically 1 point per 10 yards. Or we keep put it at what you said, plus something for PPR.

I would rather see receiving be 1 pt for 10 yards than adding PPR, but I'm open to debate.

As for the QB, I have mixed feelings. I think it would really complicate the drafting of QBs. We already value them highly, which is a nice change from all of normal 2RB then WR drafts. But I drafted Kevin Kolb based on the fact that Donovan McNabb hasn't played a full season in 5 years. I've been reluctant to drop Kolb due to the fact I think he could be a keeper next year. I did the same with Brady Quinn last year.

Sarge do you remember being in a league with someone who had picked up all of the waiver wire QBs and trying to trade scrubs for first round RBs?

lol yes I do. And I was royally PO'd too. IIRC, I was contending for a playoff spot, his team was in the basement, and my QB went down. Suddenly, the only QBs out there, were holding clipboards and had NO shot at play time.

Frick, my idea for the QB claims, is that you can still hold onto prospective starters, and so long as they are on your roster, you can never lose them. If McNabb goes down, then his owner gets first priority at Kolb IF he is on waivers. If you own him, then the McNabb owner is out of luck.

I would definitely be more open to increasing the points per yard than I would be adding a PPR. Just finding the right PPY would be key.

Russell...of the rules above, the Toilet Bowl and I believe the QB one doesn't really affect how a team would draft, so I don't see a problem with rule changes with those.

The WR one definitely would have merti to be looked at as putting off until after next season, as people drafted with current rules and point systems in mind.

I personally like the challenge of the 2 QB league. It makes it different. Like B6 said its not just RB RB RB RB RB RB.

WR must be fixed. They are almost worthless in this league. I would like to see 10 yards = 1 point

.5? So 1 point every 2 yards for receiving? Wouldn't that make receivers the gods of the league? Or do you mean an extra .5 every 10 or 20 yards?

I like the restrictions on keepers, you have some flexibility and hard choices to make. Do you keep a mediocre QB or a second stud WR.

Sorry, I meant the .5 per 10 yards, my bad. Basically, right now it is 1 point per 20 yards. People seem to want 1 point per 10. If we go to 1 point per 15 next year, then 1 point per 10 the year after. Ease it in to the league. Just an idea.

I would think we could go to 1 point for 15 yards, pending a vote. Because its a pretty big change based on the way we drafted, I would want a 75%+ approval. Otherwise I would suggest at looking to change it for the following season.

So these will be voted on in the offseason:

1. Toilet Bowl Lottery (50% majority?)
2. Increasing Receiving Yardage (75% majority?)
3. Automatic First Dibs on the backup to your QB, should your QB get injured, and should the backup be on waivers. (50% majority?)

Anything else we want to discuss?

takes the advantage away from people who plan better???? What does planning, have to do with picking up the 2nd string QB to a team you dont have the starter from, when the starter goes down? It isnt planning that puts that 2nd stringer on a team other than the onw holding the starter, its luck of the draw in who gets to go first in reverse order of sdtandings for FA OR, who gets to their computer the quickest once FA is opened up. Sorry, but I dont consider planning on being in last place as necessarily deserving of recognition for planning success, nor do I count not being at work when FA opens and thus having first access, as 'planning'.

In a league starting 2 QBs, with 12 teams, that makes 24 of the 32 starters taken. That means at the most, 8 teams could have 3 starting QBs on their rosters. (At least 4 of which probably arent much worth having except as an injury or bye replacement.) Injuries to QBs are devastating in a 2 QB league. If you have the starter for an NFL team, his backup is available and the starter goes down...you should most certainly have 'right of refusal' as for putting that backup on your team. You may not want him, lol...re B Johnson in Dallas this season for ex

We can also talk about adding to the value of RBs if needed.

Re: 292: You can still have someone else's backup QB on your roster to block another manager from getting his backup, so I think it would actually add to the strengths of those that would plan better, no? Or at least create a different thought process when adding a backup QB and just stashing him on your roster to block another manager.

exactly....so how does 'planning' fit into it? lol I doubt anyone, in any league who took Cassel preseason, did so with any intent of playing him.

If you take so-n-so's backup in the preseason draft, unless so-n-so is shakey health/history wise to begin with, it isnt 'planning' that he ends up starting. Its dumb luck that his starter went down.

RE 294

Plan was a bad choice of words.

What I meant is in this league you can either carry a flier WR or RB that you think might play in the future weeks or keep backups of other QB's.

Even that doesn't sound good lol.

I don't know I just like starting 2 QB's. It just makes it such a tougher and more diverse league.

I think this whole "you automatically get the backup, but only if someone else doesn't already have him" idea is horsesh!@#. Either (a) draft "team QB" rather than players, or (b) determine whether it's worth the risk to carry the backup QB on your squad and roll those dice. If people feel our bench is too short to carry a backup QB, then so be it. But this notion of "free dibs" on a backup makes no sense, especially when coupled with the only-if-someone-else-doesn't-have-him randomness.

Wow...4 teams battling it out for the last two playoffs spots.

I have to say, with Dwffan and Frick playing each other, I really like my chances of getting one of those spots.

If I win and Dwwffan wins, I have to score 6 more points than Frick to move into the playoffs.

If I win and Frick wins, then I am in no matter how many points I get.

If I lose, I am out.

I also need to not have Chuck outscore me by more than 30, which I think is (hopefully) safe.

So its Pizza and Sausage against Poutine, Beer, and Beaver Tails!

Ouch!

Just a note before next season, it looks like I might have a surplus of RBs.

I guess that we will have to wait for the finals for the food switch;) As for the food, one of the best poutines I have had is in Quebec City. After reading your post, I feel like a smoked meat. BTW, I never knew that Toronto was known for the Thai food?

haha...Toronto isn't really known for anything. (I realized this as I was trying to figure out what to bet!)

Mill St. Brewery is a great little brewery here in Toronto, so that was in. And Toronto's large asian population has afforded us some very good Thai restaurants in the downtown core, so I included that!

Its sad, every big city seems to have their thing: Chicago Pizza, Philly Cheesesteak, Montreal Smoked Meat, New York Apples...haha

Toronto doesn't really have anything that I can think of...

haha...not that I want to start trash talking you JT, (actually I totally do) but the only guys you are starting this weekend that you drafted this year that has a good matchup is DeAngelo Williams.

Now when you say good planning, do you mean you knew 2 or 3 years ago when you drafted guys like Peyton, Steve Smith, LenDale White and Marshawyn Lynch that they would have good matchups 2 or 3 years later in the first week of our playoffs? :)

Crap.

I had Ryan Fitzpatrick in my starting lineup until about 12:45 today, at which point I chickened out and decided to go with Big Ben.

That was costly.

Well, another RB blew a tire this week, and his replacement was on the other side, and put up good points. Addai not playing really hurt me this week. I need an amazing night from the Eagles D and Desean Jackson.

I was very lucky to win this week. I almost didnt make it home in time from work to pull out Garcia. I literally made it it home at 1150 to put in Griese. Whew!

Congrats to JTSERB. Quite a year. It was a good league this year, very tough. Not putting in a claim for Pierre Thomas really bit me in the butt at the end of the year.

While we are still around, and have the year fresh in our minds, should we put in writing what changes could be made for next year?

Thanks, my team really turned it around mid season and have been on fire ever since.

I ended up winning 3 leagues this season. 2 of of them for a pretty good sum of money, yet I feel most satisfied with this one. I think its because the competition.

I know we have to rename the league after a player not in the NFL, but if I could name it anyone I think it would have to be Deangelo Williams. He carried me to the championship no doubt.

Alright, we are coming back! Just putting this out there to get an idea of if we need to replace a manager.

JTSerb, as last year's champion, will get to pick the former player that will be the namesake of this year's league.

So far we have had:

Mike Singletary (Barilko6)
Pat Tillman (Dwfffan)
Reggie White (Barilko6)

So post here your intentions, and please note my new email address.

We have:

Barilko6
Russell
Electroman
Wiggs
Promize
Chuck
Doug

Out:

Sarge

MIA:

JTSerb
Dwfffan
Frick
Golffreak

Also we need to vote on:

A. Changing receiving yards from 1 point for every 20 Yds to 1 point for every 15 yards.

B. Changing receiving yards from 1 point for every 20 Yds to 1 point for every 10 yards.

C. Leaving it as is. (1 point for every 20 yards)

Adrian Peterson
Pierre Thomas
Chris Johnson

And I can only keep 2 of them. I am pretty set at my other keepers, however I would be willing to package 1 or 2 of those guys with Ben Roethlisberger or Matt Schaub to get an upgrade at QB.

Or I would deal any of the RB for draft picks.

I vote for 1 point per 10 yards as well- too many times a wr would go for like 100 yards and get 5 lousy points

Also there is an option to have bonus points if you break a certain number- say 3 points extra if you get to 100 yards?

I vote for A... I feel B creates too big of a discrepancy between Rushing and Receiving yards (2:1 ratio).

Obviously that vote would change if we're going to modify rushing yards as well, but then it should be a vote for combined options (rather than 2 separate votes), since the result of one would impact my vote on the other.

I think the simplest thing to do is more-or-less leave things as is but make a bit of an adjustment for receiving yards (option A increases yardage points by 33% over the status quo).

I like A, leaving RB yards as they are.

WR's have been way undervalued for far too long in my eyes, and the small bump would be a move towards making them a little more value to the RBs.

I don't think we need to add more to the RB yards, as it seems the RBs have been far outscoring our WR's. (Just my opinion though, and would be open for conversation)

alright...work has ended for the summer, so I can devote more time for this league and get things running.

Joey, here is your roster of players. You keep 5 players, but no more than 2 at any 1 position.

This is a QB heavy scoring league, as passing TD's are worth 6, and we start 2 QBs each week, so most teams do hold onto 2 QBs.

B. Changing receiving yards from 1 point for every 20 Yds to 1 point for every 10 yards. (3 in favor)

Also...

I am looking to package Ryan Grant, Pierre Thomas and Big Ben Roethlisberger for an upgrade at QB.

Grant started very slow last year, was hurt, and still put up 1200 yards.

If you would prefer to take Grant and/or Thomas for just a slight pick upgrade, I would do that too.

But if you have a QB and need another RB and don't want to lose out on a pick, I will send you Grant, Thomas, and Big Ben for your QB.
