0 Subject: New TV shows

Posted by: blue hen
- Leader [710321114] Mon, Oct 16, 2006, 13:13

There are a lot of TV shows around there. Thanks to TiVo, I spend time watch these instead of Aqua Teen Hunger Force or replays of WNBA basketball. My rotation includes:

Monday: How I Met Your Mother, The Class, Studio 60
Tuesday: Friday Night Lights
Wednesday: 30 Rock
Thursday: The Office, Til Death, Six Degrees
Friday: Psych

I also gave The Nine a shot but wasn't moved. The two best are clearly Six Degrees and How I Met Your Mother.

What shows are you guys watching?

I'm a pecan man myself. It stinks to high hell that this show wasn't even allowed to wrap up it's story. CBS screwed it up to begin with via the huge break in between the fall and early spring episodes. If they want to cancel it, fine, but at least give the series 6 episodes or so to finish it.

No way.

Only season 2 will do.

The ratings weren't even that bad. Especially considering that the show attracted intelligent fans who viewed the show via Tivo or online. The online numbers were actually pretty staggering.

But yes, it stinks. I do think it'll be brought back, but once the announcement has been made, there are a lot of things that need to happen to undo it - contracts, dealing with the show it'll replace, etc. I'm betting on late June.

I saw an article that confirmed just that. Jericho was popular in foreign countries and with DVR users, both of which are apparently not calculated in the Nielon numbers.

much like LOST, a large part of Jericho's "decline" in ratings was due to DVR users.

many of the Jericho actors have been posting on the Jerico boards. at first, they were silent, but as the voice of the fans grew louder, they started commenting on the outpouring of support...

Jericho, and LOST, are really shows that are perfect for DVRs. The stories can be slow, although meaningful, and sometimes like the spice that make commericials tolerable. They're an hour long so a DVR can cut that down to around 40 minutes or so.

I would imagine there's a sizeable group of folks that watch both LOST and Jericho. They are similar shows in the grand scheme in that they are both "thinking" shows.

Networks are just going to have to adapt to DVRs. They are not going anywhere and neither are internet viewings of shows. If they want more ad revenue, then they need to look at product placement or more episodes that have limited commericials but then are sponsored by a company.

If shows like Jericho ("thinking" shows) get the axe and all we have are comedies and reality shows, TV is going to royally suck and I think network TV will suffer as a result.

I bet HBO or Showtime could pick up Jericho and make it a big time winner. No commercials, no censors, just let it rip. I think it would rock.

I've got all 3 AD seasons on DVD and have watched them a few times. The saddest thing about it was what happened the begining of season 3 with Charlies Theron, it jsut went BAD, and then magically when "Little Britton" was over it was back to it's great self, which was also the point it was told it wasn't going to be renewed. So many classic moments, with most of them being stuff that Tobias said.

and it's looking like Jericho might actually be saved!!!

Multiple sources are telling me that CBS is thisclose to sealing a deal to bring Jericho back for at least eight episodes, possibly at mid-season.

Jericho is back. The ratings have to follow or we'll be back at it again. I urge everyone who reads this thread to at least watch the first episode on CBS innertube. Give it a shot and if you don't like it, fine.

Veronica Mars has started a similar campaign with Snickers. Were Mars bars taken? I'm pretty sure that one won't be as successful.

Tonight I am going to watch the series premier John From Cincinnati and the season premier of The Loop. Will they be as good as the shows I started watching last fall? We shall see...

Just finished watching all 23 Heroes episodes and the show really grew on me. Hiro is as badass as it gets. One thing that annoyed me was how often they used the word "hero" during the show. Most of the time it was just weird.

Read this about next season:

CCI: What do viewers have to look forward to in volume two?

TK: Volume two may not last an entire season. It will pick up a few of the questions that will be left hanging in volume one. But you can look forward to the introduction of a new character and a villain and the idea of the show having a kind of global feel is only increased in volume two.

CCI: When you say volume two will not be an entire season, do you mean you'll start volume three in the next season?

TK: Yes, volume three will start in the middle of the season or toward the end of the season. There is a complete season next year, with about 23 episodes, but the idea is that the show is told in volumes and each one is sort of looked at as one book in a series of books, and then we move on to another volume. This allows us to not get caught up in one giant story that needs to be dragged on. One of the lessons we've learned from other shows is that that you can't (let the show) get wrapped up so tightly around itself that it doesn't have any breathing room left. You can't introduce any new concepts because you're so busy on the freight train that is that story. The story becomes a big giant engine that gets harder and harder to hop off.

I've watched the first two episodes of Traveler. It's not bad, but it's a real serial - you'd be totally lost if you haven't watched everything prior. It's on at the same time as Rescue Me, which I tivo'd but haven't watched yet.

What happened to the hot roommates on The Loop? The episode last night sucked compared to season 1. The storylines that involved his roommates were always so much better than the work storylines. The show needs to realize it's not The Office.

Not exactly "new" but I just read TBS is gonna start showing reruns of The Office.

Under the deal, TBS will be able to air one hour of episodes from previous "Office" seasons each week. That number will increase to 12 plays per week when the show goes into regular off-network syndication in fall 2009.

At that time, TBS also will have non-exclusive broadband, on-demand and wireless rights to the show.

TBS gets rights to reshow 'Office'

BTW - they began to replay Jericho this past friday.

for those who haven't watched this show, i urge you to give it a whirl.

yes, you missed the first episode, that started to establish a lot of the main characters, but there are still plenty of main characters that haven't even been introduced yet.

or, you could go back online and watch that one episode at CBS.com. this is a fantastic show. give it a chance, and you will be as enthralled as the loons who sent in 15 tons of nuts to get the show saved...

Actually, they're skipping the first half of Jericho (after the pilot), so tomorrow night they show two episodes: the "recap" of the first 11, and episode #12, Black Jack.

If you're not up for watching online, you'll be fine if you watch tomorrow, because the second half of the season is better than the first.

I watch Traveler (see post 278). It looks like next week we get to find out a lot. It was pretty cool seeing Will do what he did at the end of this week's episode. The show won't last, by the way. I hope they prepare for this to be over after season 1.

Reminder, Jericho tomorrow night.

I have 3 new shows on the slate.

Greek, an ABCFamily show about fraternity life. The first episode was pretty interesting; we'll see how it goes.

Bronx Is Burning is only so-so so far. I was really looking forward to this, so hopefully it picks up.

Big Brother 8. I didn't watch Big Brother until halfway through last season. Mike Boogie and Will are awesome. This season, the cast is lackluster, but I'm still watching.

My favorites to watch:
1. Eric
2. Zach
3. Amber

Least favorites to watch:
1. Nick
2. Jessica
3. Kail

Best chance of winning
1. Mike
2. Zach
3. Dustin

Agree with you about Bronx is Burning, bh. My wife and I were both 15 during this time, and lived as die-hard Yankee fans in the 70s (only me now...). It is really cool to see this historical take on NYC during this time, but otherwise, the mini-series has a total "TV movie" look and feel. The best parts are the exchanges between Steinbrenner and Martin, or more accurately, Turturro and Platt, two stud actors who do an excellent job. Otherwise, the clubhouse scenes are pretty lame, except for the funny quips from Mickey Rivers. The Rescue Me actor playing Reggie lacks the ooomph for me. Thurman comes across as a cry-baby and no other players are included, even though the NYY had a huge number of other stars (Catfish, Mickey, Willie, Bucky, Guidry, Goose, Nettles). The Son of Sam stuff is interesting, but already covered 10x better by Spike Lee and Michael Imperioli (writer) in the film starring John Leguizamo, "Summer of Sam."

If I'm trying to win, there's no way I vote for Kail right now. Mike is much more of a threat, and I would definitely try to get him out now. Fortunately, his biggest ally is Kail, and if he stays, she's gone.

I think Kail will go anyway, but it's not smart. And now Mike has proved to someone (Zach? Nick? Jen? Jameka? there HAS to be something going on) that he's loyal and will stay the course. If he survives this, he's in good shape, other than Kail being gone.

Liberals might like this question:

"What percentage of Americans said that in a duel with Dick Cheney, they would probably be shot by the Vice President, or the other way around?"

Audience reaction is high indicating -- Cheney would be the shooter.

My guess is 60% Cheney.

Contestant has a 20% range to continue. Picks 35%-55%.

He's going for $100K.

Answer (from poll): 43%.

Contestant continues.

(Funny: crowd (presumably NY crowd) chants "Cheney, Cheney, Cheney...)

Power of 10 doings. CBS. Right now.

National poll, asked of women:

"Do you consider yourself a feminist?"

My guess: 43%

Contestant has a 10% range.

Studio audience graph of answers peaks around 37% -- but the graph is not symmetrical.

Contestant's father advises: 15-20%.

This is for $1 million or losing $100K.

Contestant can walk away with $100K. He guesses 23-33%. He decides to risk his $100K to win $1 million.

For $1 million dollars.

Answer: He won. $1 million dollars.

i think the problem with the show is that, honestly, while interesting, it gets boring fast.

i also can't really see anyone going for that 10 million. 10 million is a lot of money - but for most people, 1 million is a lot of money, and if you're intelligent with your money, and you're young, you can turn 1 million into 10 million with less risk.

J,
I love the show "My Boys".
You can watch previous episodes at tbs.com.
This is the second season. The first season started last December I think...
They had a marathon in the Spring. I believe I recorded it, if your interested.

Jim Gaffigan is greatas PJ's brother, Andy.

I especially like the first season finale when the gang surprises Andy with a day on Wringley Field.

My wife started watching "Damages" and wants to add it to the rotation.

I saw a commercial during "Damages" for "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." I thought it had been mentioned before in this tread but I didn't see it after a cursory glance. It had a short run and has been picked up for another season. It's really funny.

Ok, apparently I had false expecations for this unaired pilot.

The unaired version includes most of episode 1, but they add in a couple of scenes from other episodes as well what is basically some deleted scenes.
