The last movie thread was so big that I figured we could start another one.

Saw 3 was a lot more gore and not as good as the other two IMO.

I really liked the documentary, "This Film is Not Yet Rated." If you ever wonder how they rate movies and the politics of it, you'll really want to check this out. They even hired a private detective to uncover who the secret members are who rate them. The MPAA is a joke.

Two ideas:

1. I wish there was a "spoiler button" to click like some other internet forums. You get the movie spoilers after you click on them. (e.g. a "spoiler alert" button)

2. Is there a way to list movies and have us vote on them from a 0.0 to 10.0 scale? That would be informative. Many would vote, and the list would grow each week.

I have a feeling gurupies smell better than rotten tomatoes, ;)

I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter book series, and I have to admit I left the theater yesterday disappointed with the 5th movie installment. Admittedly, fitting enough of Book 5 into a 2.5 hour movie is impossible, but I just think the screenwriter and director did not focus enough on the more vital themes to satisfy my taste.

Visually it was quite well done. The final battle was pretty sweet, although again I would have loved to see that be longer and more meaningful than what they did.

Perhaps I am biased by having read the book.

Watched "The Last Mimzy" and all I have to say is that this movie had nothing but cardboard acting from every person in it. A to Z. Everyone. And it might just be me, but the "product placement" in this one was just annoying.

300 is testosterone put into DVD form for human consumption. I wouldn't be surprised if women who watch this movie grow actual physical balls and an adam's apple. This movie was great. I'd love to see another like it.

The Number 23 was very good, but not nearly as good as 300. The coincidences surrounding the number are pretty mindboggling.

Didn't see 300. Might be hard for me to get passed the idea of Spartan soldiers depicted as barely dressed male underwear models filmed in bronze hue. Perhaps my wife will like it. :)

The new Harry Potter was the best film yet in the series, despite lacking some of the fantastic scenery of the previous installments. My wife, who has has read all the novels, was disappointed, mostly with what they chose to gloss over. I did have one or two logical issues regarding the continued storyline, but still the best film overall. In fact I think each successive film has been progressively better.

Rocky Balboa laid it on as thick as any other Rocky movie. Very tired and very, very simple, even for the Rocky franchise.

Children of Man: Agree w/threespleens in post 149. Could have been so much more.

Pan's Labrynth was a letdown. Maybe I'd seen too many rave reviews and expected too much. Impressive visually, but not as much so as I'd been led to believe. Fair at best for a fantasy story, though WW2 era Spain did provide a cool backdrop.

Generally women don't watch softcore gay porn, but I'm sure you will subject some poor woman to it and if your dream comes true, I'm sure you'll tell us all about her balls.

I'd love to see another like it.

There is an entire industry making gay porn, knock yourself out.

From that review.

If you watch this movie and go into a Taco Bell, and say to the cashier, “I need some extra sauce packets” guess what? You’re getting twenty sauce packets because your face will punch him in the brain.

The really funny part is that I had Taco Bell for lunch today and I got a bunch of hot sauce packets and I didn't really even ask for them.

The reviewer in all his juvinility is 100% correct. The movie is setup like a videogame and the heavy music goes very nicely with the battle scenes that are too many to count. The makers of 300 knew exactly who their target audience was and made no apologies about getting it.

For a left wing whack job, you sure don't seem to be tolerant of gays do you?

Although I do commend you for not posting with a cartoon.

I don't know about softcore gay porn (or what in SZ's post could be seen as intolerant) but the images I've seen in reviews and trailers for 300 are obvious deliberate homoeroticism.

Not sure if that's what Box meant when he said, "The makers of 300 knew exactly who their target audience was and made no apologies about getting it."

Yeah, I've been reading Aint it Cool (Harry & co) for years...very fun and funny web-site. Good to have a film-oriented web-site devoted towards action, horror and sci-fi (and Harry now is into posting reviews for all kinds of movies), but Harry is quite the fanboy and gives pos reviews to many movies that sorta are mediocre or just suck. Still, his writing like a fan style is really refreshing, but now this guy is big, and he has major access and even gravitas. Amazing.

Gonna rent Number23 this weekend, though I have my doubts going in.

I went out and bought a Rubkic's Cube after seeing Pursuit of Happyness. ALways wanted to solve it and gave me a great deal of "happyness" when I finally solved that sucker!

I went and saw The Simpsons on Friday.

*Semi-spoiler alert*

The two funniest bits:
It starts with an "Itchy & Scratchy" cartoon that the family is watching in a theater. Homer says, "Booooring. Who would pay good money to see something in a theater they could watch on TV at home for free? You're all idiots. You, (points left) you, (points right) and especially YOU!" (points at the "camera.")

Halfway through the screen goes black and says "To be continued..." followed a few frames later by "Immediately" and it picks up where it left off.

*Semi-spoiler off*
Overall I give it a "Meh."

I would agree with the "meh" critique of The Simpsons Movie. There were a bunch of pretty funny jokes but also alot of cringe-worthy moments.

I'm seeing a sneak preview of The Kingdom tonight. It looks like it could be pretty good.

Zodiac was outstanding. Maybe the movie was long in time but it didn't feel that way. The acting was very good. The guy from Brokeback was really good and Downey Jr. was very good as well.

I thought the scene where they were wearing the "I Am Not Avery" buttons while Downey is taking target practice to be very funny. It added some humor to a serious movie.

Of the three movies I've seen recently (#23, 300, & Zodiac), Zodiac was the best.

re 309....IF you get good and stoned first, and I mean GOOD and stoned....then you'd probably enjoy Fountain quite thoroughly. Outside of a mindblown high however, you probably wont care for it.

re 310...Downey was absolutely superb in his role.

Believe it or not, it took me this long to see Invincible, which I saw last night. It was decent, not great. Greg Kinnear and Marky Mark were very good, but there weren't enough characters to relate to. They all just kind of sat in the background.

I did enjoy all of the Eagles scenes, including the fight song.

I recored self-ratings of films I watch (1 to 10).

The only film that scored a 10 was Ran.

Of the past two years' viewing I recommend Running Scared, Little Children, and the recent documentary God Grew Tired of Us.
