Dude, the Bee Gees rock. So many great songs to choose from. I'm very surprised at the ones selected.

Jordin needed to have a great week and she did. I loved both her songs. Melinda wasn't great this week, but that is being relative to what she's done in the past. She sounded good even though both songs are very similar to most of her other performances. I think most contestants wish they did as well as she does on just her average weeks. Both should be safe.

I kinda like what Blake did, but it was nothing new from him. IMO, his appeal is that no previous contestants has done what he does. I hear contemporary thrown around a lot when he is described. With that said, his vocals were pretty weak and I have to believe it's become obvious to most watchers. Lakisha was okay, but I have to agree with you and believe this is her week to go.

I don't think the top 12 were eliminated in the correct order, but I do think we have the correct top four. I would have liked to see Stephanie and Gina hang out a bit longer and am surprised how much Phil grew on me. Barry Gibb said some pretty big things about Jordin tonight. I wouldn't be surprised to see that she is the biggest eventual album seller out of this season's crop regardless of who wins.

TB....Sorry if you think I dissed the Bee Gees; that was NOT my intention. I absolutely loved the Bee Gees but my point was that Jordin wasn't even born until what?...1989! The Brother Gibbs were far, far removed from their peak by then.

I am in agreement with pretty much of the rest of your assessment. Song selection, as we know, is so vital and yet none of them really played to their respective strengths IMHO.

Gibbs' liking of Jordin was somewhat surprising but I do think she probably does have the best potential/talent, etc. to become the best seller out of anybody we've seen in Season 6.

By the way, I hadn't heard Barry Gibb speak in a long, long time. Seems to me his voice has changed or maybe he's wearing dentures now or something. Not sure what was going on there...

Also, for those that may not know it, I think Barry Gibb was the owner of what used to be Johnny Cash's house...before it burned down a few weeks back. :(

Hey bro, I was teasing but I do have some Bee Gees greatest hits on my ipod. Yeah, I don't know what was wrong with Barry but his mouth didn't seem to be working correctly. Almost like he's had a mild stroke.

So next week will just be a formality until the Melinda/Jordin finals.

Speaking of song choice.
When the show opened and they were playing "Staying Alive" the thought crossed my mind right then that one of the contestants would make the blunder of choosing that song and it would be a disaster.
Sure enough......Lakisha fell for it and fell flat with it.
There are certain songs that work because of who sang it.
Staying Alive worked for the BeeGees and they are probably the only group that could pull it off.
The song is not that melodic and it is difficult to do something with a chorus that basically has the one phrase of "Staying Alive".

DialIdol predicts that Melinda and Lakisha will be on the bottom two and it is very close to who is leaving. Lakisha is JUST behind Melinda but with the Margin of Error so high, they predict Melinda could go. I knew Blake would get a big bump based on the judges comments. It BETTER not come at the expense of Melinda. Lakisha is the obvious choice to leave and as I do agree that next week SHOULD be a formality. I enjoy Blake but he is not in the same league with Melinda and Jordin. Lakisha needs some formal training. She has the voice but needs to learn how to harness it.

LaKisha.........see you later !!!! ;)

Not disappointed with tonight's results at all. Now no matter what happens in their performances next week, I think Jordin has assured herself a spot in the Finals IMHO.

I do think that Melinda does have a little to be concerned about next week. She's quite a bit older than either Blake or Jordin and if the "young generation" shows up in their voting next week, we just may see a Jordin-Blake finale. I hope not.

Two questions about tonight's show:
1. Did Pink actually perform there in the studio where Ryan and the judges were? When I played back the performance, the cameras didn't catch any of the Idols, nor Ryan nor any of the judges. Thought it was strange. I could be wrong though.

2. What happened to the talent that was Barry Gibb? He was a shell of his former self out there tonight. Not good.

Looking forward to the semi-finals.

Dude is almost 61 years old, but you are correct in that he is a shell of what he once was. He does look great for his age, though.

Pink was in the studio, but she was being drowned out by her back-up singers. When the foursome started their medley, Melinda's mic was jacked up so I am guessing they were having some sound issues.

Blake's lack of vocals has never more apparent than tonight when his tiny voice was lost during group singing. I swear it seemed like the girls were all holding back just to try and make it appear like he was contributing. I think Melinda, Lakisha, and Jordin could rock a song together and when they did their solo bits it sounded good, but they really had to take it down a few notches to include him.

I hope it turns out to be a Melinda-Jordin finals.

Anyone else excited over the new band concept announced last night. I've always been a much bigger fan of groups than solo artists.

Zabasearch has once again begun to post the graph prediction several hours before it occurred. It has apparently always been right. This past week it had the same as DialIdol with Blake having the most votes, followed by Jordin and Melinda 3rd.

Blake has a huge fan base out there, but with Lakisha going, that should give the other two ladies a boost. Still, the ladies are splitting the votes that may allow Blake into the Finals.

Simon is chickening out. He has done so with his comments.

Seacrest asked him to name a winner; he refused to do so.

Conclusion: Simon is not even trying to be a real judge. but just a preliminary-round a****le.

It's one thing to make fun of people, dump on obvious losers, ; another thing to make distinctions among 3 or 4 contestants -- One of whom might be the American Idol.

That's why I think Simon is a sh8t judge. Knowingly so; also why he now makes $10M+ per year.

OK next: Lakisha: "I Who Have Nothing". A favourite song.

Pretty good. 8 1/2. Sounded like she understood the meanings of the lyrics. SIMON is the IDIOT complaining that a "17-year-old is singing a 60-YEAR-OLD-SONG".

Hey, fire Simon, is my O. I appreciate that he is blunt, his style in the respect of bluntness is exactly right; but his musical tastes are just the opposite of mine. He just praised a weak performance by Blake because it "sounded new". We could just kill Simon. But better -- where to find the Anti-Simon, the Simon of Supermans' "Bizarro World?"

(I'd rather have Seacrest tell it was was up with his dating Teri Hatcher".)

Toral, you mean Jordin, not Lakisha ;)

I thought all three did good to great on all three songs. I agree with you on the too young for a 60 year old song. Hogwash.

I think Melinda can sing in whatever genre she wants to, including pop. In fact, I like all three. I think I would be most upset if Melinda was kicked out this week. Of the three, the weakest vocalist is Blake. He's not bad. In fact, I liked Roxanne from him. He's not trying to be Sting. One week you tell him to sing it straight and the next week, it was a copycat performance. Oh please. He could have done a lot more with his last two songs. In fact, his final song was good (not great like even Simon said), it was a tough song, but I figured he'd do something to really he get in his unique style. I was disappointed by him basically staying away from it. I felt he needed another 16 measure beatbox type thing.

I think heading into the finals it should be Melinda #1 and Jordin #2. Blake needs to be ousted, but not forgotten. I really enjoyed most of his performances.

I don't get why they decided to have each contestant sing three songs, when each one of them sang a song we've seen before. I did think all three did better with their songs this time. Melinda goobed up the words early, but she would get my vote for best of the three tonight. Jordin was very good. Blake was just okay for me. I am bored with him at this point. I like nice vocals and he doesn't have them. My guess is that he makes the finals, though. I think Jordin is the odd one out. Regardless of who makes it, it will be a better finals than last year.

Yeah, I remember that from last season, but I would rather see two complete songs than a third song I've already seen before. Maybe they do it that way because it's hard for them to learn three new songs for the week. Maybe all the contestants should be told to learn a new song for the semi-finals in case they make it there.

Just like last season, the best vocalist goes home the week before the finals. Yeah, I was a Daughtry fan last year, but Elliot had the best pipes. Speaking of Elliot, good to see him tonight. I see he's had some stage presence coaching. No more funky little dance steps while he sings and instead of the wide-eye look, we got the closed eyes look. I've heard him sing that song already, but enjoyed it again tonight.

It was clear the anti Simon and grily factors played into last nights decision. I had Jordan going home, and was quite suprised to see Melinda voted out. In the end it was Melinda's humility, and lack of personality that did her in.

I think it was a simple case of Melinda and Jordin splitting votes.
I have to think that Jordin will win easily next week as the anti-Blake vote should be huge.
Win or lose I think Jordin will sell more records than either Blake or Melinda.

I'm sorry to see Melinda go. I know Blake has a following, and he may have more commercial value right now than Jordin, but I'd be surprised if it was not a landslide win for Jordin next week.

As for the thing about Melinda and Jordin splitting votes, I guess that is true If the majority of people vote for only one contestant.

To avoid the whole splitting votes issue I usually have my daughter give me two people to vote for (and we normally call just once for each). Last night, we called in and voted 5 times each for Melinda and Jordin just in case. Sometimes, early in the season I have her pick 3 or 4 to vote for. Of course if 60 million votes are cast, those who vote dozens of times have more of a voice than those who vote very few.

The finale will be the only time each season we vote for 1 contestant.

weykool agrees with me completely.

Melinda shoudl be in the finals. I told my wife that Blake would do an Abraham Lincoln and get into the finals because Jordin and Melinda would split the votes while the people who like Blake's style would obviously vote for him in force. I am going to watch the finale before deciding, but I can't see a way IMM that Blake is better than Jordin. I don't think it's a gimmick whatsoever, but Jordin clearly has better vocals. Blake's vocals are above average, but not superior like an AI winner should have. Blake is a performaer and an entertainer and I think his album will do really well, but I think Jordin and perhaps Melinda could be a superstar. In fact, though I have like Melinda overall and she has been consistently great, Jordin probably even has more potential than her. Remember she's 17 and hasn't really had formal training like Melinda has apparently had.

I think I discovered why I don't like Jordin, she is insincere. Basically, fake. When Melinda got kick off, she put on a fake wiping of the tears for the camera. She is 17, and it seems to be going straight to her head.

I saw real tears, but what does it matter? The whole point is to win the competition and at some point every friend on the show has to leave for you to win. I believe this group is pretty tight this year and they've shown it each week as each person left.

Melinda's departure didn't seem as emotional as others have been. She's been one of my favorites all season, but I've always felt she was a little fake herself. That big-eyed look on her face every week like it was a shock the judges complimented her. The judges even got tired enough of it that they had her stop doing it. She milked that about as long as she could.

Jordin has been a little annoying the last two weeks as well. When the judges talk she wants to babble. I know Simon hates to be interupted when he is talking. You can see it on his face. Maybe it's her nerves. I haven't cut her any slack because of her age, but she hasn't fully matured. She is still a kid. I thought she was very overwhelmed at her homecoming.

Anyone else notice that Blake didn't sound good at all when he sang the National Anthem and when he was in front of the crowd in his hometown? Marginal studio voice at best. I still think he is going to win it based on his popularity. Just like Hicks last year. He seems to be the guy this year that realizes he has to make fans happy. They complain about his darker hair color on the message board so he colors his tips. He also seemed a bit disingenuous as we followed him back to his home. Maybe it was just nerves for him as well.

I hate to sound like I am picking at these guys. I love this show and appreciate what each contestant has to do each week. It's been a fun season and I wish them all success.

Some pretty harsh words there TB.

I think the emotions were sincere.
In interviews thay have all talked about "being in this bubble" and just being caught up in the "whirlwind" of events.
The 3 of them were on the Leno show and were asked how many times they have voted for themselves.
The answer was none.
When leno followed up that they never voted they all talked about voting for other contestants.
I dont think they can help but feel emotions for each other when you consider for they have been "locked" up together for the last 3 months.
In essence they have all gone through the same ups and downs together and the shared experiences have created a very strong bond between them.

I think the look of surprise was genuine for Melinda.
For years she had been a backup singer and now she was stepping to the front and it was probably a little overwhelming for her considering all the praise the judges were heaping on her.
When Simon told her to stop she did and you could see a significant increase in confidence.

As far as buying albums...I bought Underwood's first album and I am looking forward to buying the next one.
I normally only buy greatest hits albums so the the fact that I bought one that wasnt a GH is pretty significant for me.

Blake gets the "Chick" vote and wins in a romp. Wait Jordan gets the "She's only 17" vote and she becomes the new American Idol. Hell, I have no clue. IMHO the real Idol as cut loose last week. Melinda was head and shoulders above everyone all season long. I think she lost due to some wierd "Anti-Simon" vote.

I thought Blakes first song was okay, but not quite as good as the first time he performed it. His vocals were good on the 2nd song and the 3rd song was a disaster all the way around. IMO, he just isn't a very rounded singer and is only going to sound good doing certain songs.

Jordin did okay with her first song and did really well with her last two songs. I'm rooting for her to win.

It was cool to see Daughtry close out tonight's show. Looked like he had eye liner on, though. Creepy.

I'm a Jordin partisan (more of an anti-Blake partisan) so I think she won big.

Simon made some sense tonight. Can't blame him for massaging Paula's upper back/neck early -- a very effective move, quite often. "Stop that!" probably wasn't his desired response.

Blake had this elaborate set for one of his songs, he was trying to look very "cool" pressed right against the back and to the corner of the set. I couldn't help but think, "You know, if that set suddenly opened up, Blake might disappear forever!" -- and we all would be better off!

Go Jordin.

We all know that ultimately, it's the performance and hype that sells records. There are a lot of people who cna sing yet there are a lot of people who can't sing that make huge money and get all the hype. I could be here all day naming them so I won't get into the Ashley Simpson's of the world and say that Blake could have a nice future ahead of him. I mean, let' sbe real. He will get songs that fit him and he has a good enough voice to pull them off. I mean the boy can sing, he just isn't in the same class as Jordin when it comes to vocals. I really like Jordin's voice and have been rooting for her and Melinda, but I've been more entertained by Blake. He's had a couple songs that I've actually wanted to go back and watch a few times. The Bon Jovi song that he reprised last night was one of them.

I was put off by Randy's obvious agenda for Jordin. Screw the Singing competition crap. We know it's all about appeal. Sanjaya can testify for that. I thght Simon was pretty accurate on some of his comments. Paula--just shut up already. She needed a taxi last week and this week supposedly had a broken nose when there was no bruising or puffiness--oh please. Get out already.

My take: Blake won the first round big time. Not because Jordin wasn't very good but because he just was very good. I thought his vocals were good so shut up Randy. I know you've worked with 17 billion artists but you're high on crack with your not-so-hidden agenda. I think he's a Simon Wanna-be. It's like he needs approval or backing for every comment and tries to copy some of Simon's analogies. I've never been more turned off by him than I was last night.

2nd song: Again I thought Blake did a nice job. I really did. He did better than I expected and proved to me that he can sing. Jordin was sensational. I mean I don't have words to describe it. No professional training. That is God-gifted talent. Jordin wins this round. Not because Blake did poorly but because she was simply sensational.

So going into round three, I was not sure how I felt about it. I mean I was so sure Jordin would dominate. I think Jordin would have the edge simply because she was so good. I don't believe it was a tie. Again, no knock on Blake. If they were rated on a scale of 1-10, Jordin was a probably 8.5 and 10 and Blake was a 9.5 and 8.5.

Third round: Not even close. Blake though wsa sandbagged because that is not what he'd be singing. Nowhere close to his true vocal range and it was too big for him. He doesn't have the big voice with the great range. He is a good singer, but not diva-esque like Jordin. Blake needed to hit a home run to win the competition and he all but struck out. While Jordin crushed it.

I didn't vote, but I clearly think Jordin won. I am basing that on everything, not just vocals.

Now for the results...

JORDIN SPARKS WINS!

ZabaSearch has now accurately predicted the voting outcome of 11 out of the last 11
American Idol voting shows it has forecast.
That includes the last six shows of the 2006 season and the most recent five shows of the 2007 season.

Blake is an amazing talent and is sure to enjoy a huge career, but after LaKisha and Melinda were voted off, Jordin picked up the majority of their support. This explains why Jordin was trailing behind Blake for weeks, but surged at the end.

I learned from the guys in the black helicopters that the last song was actually written for Jordan;). I mean it was totally a "Shrieking Chick" song. It was cheese to the max.

It's obvious to me that Jordan is the best vocalist, but I actually can't stand that type of music. If I want shrieking I'll take Axl Rose, Steven Tyler, or Sebastian Bach.

Blake did a great job with "You Gave Love a Bad Name". IMHO its hitbound, and a top 40 winner if you like that kind of music.

If you are recording it, add an extra 15 minutes at the end of the timer. I was watching it live when I saw my timer light go off. The show didn't end until 10 after.

Pretty good finale. I enjoyed most of it more than last seasons, but there were parts to both that I liked more.

I told you who had won. Zaba has never been wrong. Fantasia was the only former winner not to appear. Can you imagine how it would have been if all the Idol winners appeared in the same year? I dunno about you but Kelly and Carrie are head and shoulders above the other winners. Though Jordin might be a distant third IMM.

I like Kelly Clarkson, but she isn't the best live singer. Her first song sounded a bit rough, but I like the edge to the song. I love that song from Carrie and I'm not really a country music fan. I thought Ruben sounded really good with Jordin and if he was on the show this year he would have been the best male easily. I thought Taylor sounded great tonight. I wasn't a very big fan of his last year, but he did well.

At the beginning of the show when the females came out in white dresses, I was wondering who told Gina she looked okay in that dress? She looked like a hospital patient. Jordin's dress wasn't very flattering either. Stephanie and Haley, on the other hand, looked great. Sanjaya sounded good when he got the lead at the beginning, but why-oh-why did they have him sing that song again.

I fast-forwarded through most of Tony Bennett and Bette Midler along with the dumb awards they give out...Uggh.

Yeah, kind of sucks about running over if you have TIVO. Normally, I would have been asleep by that time, but fortunately I stayed up last night...

The best part for me was the picture of the real bush baby, hilarious...

It seems to me Kelly Clarkson is putting back on the weight she had lost. BTW, that song she sang sucked. Only Alanis Morrisette should attepmt something like that...

Somehow I missed Bette(thank God), but Smokey still sounds great after all these years, though he has had TONS of work done...

Clarkson's not fat, but her arms have always been unimpressive. She worked on things a little bit but her arms are worse now than ever. For someone working on their image and showing that all the time, you'd think she'd work on that. Doesn't take a lot of time. I mean she's not fat, but that takes away from her appearance I suppose. The new edgy sound by Clarkson is not my cup of tea. heard it on the radio yesterday and althoguh it's not my favorite song, it's a lot better recorded than live as TB suggested.
