0 Subject: LOST------Season 5

Anybody else looking forward to another year of the finest show on TV? Season 4 was so much better than Season 3 and I suspect that Season 5 will not disappoint.

Does anybody know what some of the major themes will be or which recurring characters will appear this year? I've heard a rumor that we'll have a lot of Dr. Marvin Candle appearing numerous times in different episodes but not on videotape. This time, he'll actually be interacting with those on the island. Can't wait to see where that'll take us.

- the reason why Alpert visits young Locke

Probably because when he saw baby Locke being born, he realized this was legit and came back to check on his progress.

On the Hawking/Ellie thing, somewhere I saw that she was also the woman that refused to sell Desmond the engagement ring way back when.

Yeah, the whole conversation between Locke and Alpert set the groundwork for what happened in "Cabin Fever" last season. Locke tells him who he is and that he's talked to Jacob. Mentioning Jacob gets Alpert's attention but he still wants to make sure Locke is who he says he is. Locke mentions he was born 2 years from now so Alpert visits Locke when he's born and when he's young. When he visits him the 2nd time he puts a bunch of items on the table and asks Locke to pick which item is his. Locke picks the knife instead of the compass. Alpert gets frustrated and says he made a mistake coming there.

I kinda rambled there but hopefully that will jog your memory.

Ah ok, thanks guys. I remember the visit when John was young but had forgotten the visit when he was born.

Richard had a great line last night. When John keeps telling him what the future Richard said, Alpert says "I certainly don't wanna contradict myself, but..." I thought it was pretty funny.

Re 46 According to the link, young Locke picked the knife instead of a book of laws. He also picked the compass and some sand.

I just think Alpert might not have been "just checking up on him" but it could be in direct response to something that happens on the island between birth and Locke being 6 or whatever.

Yeah, very interesting. I wonder how much island time we'll get next week. It seems like they'll focus more on the Oceanic 6.

Average episode last night with a really cool ending.

They pretty much confirmed that Miles was Marvin Candle's son.

Yeah the time flipping on the island was interesting at first, but it's become irritating quickly. And predictable. It was pretty obvious that that was Danielle that rescued Jin long before she said her name (what other French characters are there?). Who didn't think that time would flip before that catamaran caught up with Sawyer and crew?

i dont think the OMG moment of the show was that it was DANIELLE who rescued Jin, but rather it was Danielle who rescued JIN.

as for the catamaran, i presumed there would be a time shift, but i figured it would be in a time BEFORE the catamaran came onto the island, thusly leaving them to SWIM in the middle of the ocean.

the nosebleed issue is interesting, as Daniel chalks it up to time spent on the island before - yet he's not affected, even though we know he's been there before too...

Interesting:

I just rewatched the episode during lunch. During the exchange between Norton (lawyer) and Ben, Norton says "Yemi said that the man found outside Santa Rosa was killed before Reyes escaped."

"Yemi said"...very interesting.

not exactly it could just mean that we know he WILL be on the island at the point they remember him from.

So who's the bad guy? Linus, Whitmore, both, or neither? I'm thinking both. I suggested to my son last night that Linus and Whitmore are like Greek gods with probably petty plans and ambitions that totally screw up the mortals' lives.

My guess is Widmore.

This whole season has been ridiculously good. As good as the episodes are the previews for the following week are even better. Can't wait for next week.

I don't think either is good. The writers are going to have to come up with something really clever to make either of them out to be good.

Rendle, I never watch the previews but my wife does, so I always end up closing my eues plugging my ears with my fingers while doing the "la la la" thing until she taps me on the shoulder to let me know the previews are over... :)

bmd, I would require a massive twist get me buy into one of the being a good guy... which of course means that I'm sure one of them will be....

Locke, Aaron, Alpert, and Walt may be candidates for the good guy. With the time travel stuff, Aaron could come back as an adult before this is over. Aaron from the Bible was high priest of the Hebrews. A high priest would come in handy for the island right about now.

And I just realized that Aaron in the Bible was the brother of Moses, who delivered the Hebrews. Aaron in the Lost is half-brother of Jack, who's been trying to deliver the Losties since day one.

Help me out- How did Kate and Cassidy (Sawyer's ex) know each other? Usually they give you enough of a tickle in the "Previously" opening that I can reconstruct the setup, but I can't put them together this time.

By chance (?) Cassidy ran into Kate in Iowa. She was conning some guy and Kate talked them out of calling the cops. Then Cassidy helped Kate get to talk to her mom (after she had killed step-daddy and the authorities were looking for her).

Where's all the love for the absolute best show on TV today? I know it's gotten a little crazy...ok, ok, A LOT crazy, with all the time warp stuff but it is some of the best writing/acting I've ever seen on free t.v.

Kudos to those that have watched all five years thus far. Now, if you can only remember all that you've watched, you're a much better person than I.

i was out of town for a few weeks, so caught up on the previous two episodes, and watched last night, all within the period of about 5 days.

last night's cliffhanger was one of my favorite ever. a true "WHOA!" moment, because, while i had every expectation as to who would be emerging from the sub, i didn't expect him to know and greet Miles...

Best line of the night, by Sayid (paraphrasing, when Sayid explained why he agreed to come along to find/detonate the hydrogen bomb):

'Well either you're right and you will save us all.....or you're wrong and will put us out of our misery'

RE: 80

Have to agree with katietx on the spoiler, but on the other hand I also thought it was kind of implausible that they'd so quickly go from "Lets beat the truth out of these traitors" to "Lets just put 'em on the sub and maybe save their lives while we wait here."

It would suck if that is what happens (i.e. a reset), but then they all still encounter each other after the plane lands in LA safely. They could all get off the plane, ackowledge each other as they are leaving like they don't even know them (but maybe with a deja-vu type reaction), but the last thing we see is a shot of Richard or Ben or Faraday or Widmore maybe observing them...guaranteed there will be something left untold to leave everyone wondering!

Yep. I think they are the ones Jacob says are coming with his "dying" breath.

If that's true, then it's not a reset because the rest of the gang are already at the statue. I think what happened this season didn't change the past, but changed the present. This will allow the losties the opportunity to face the forces that have been manipulating them. An opportunity not so much to change the past, but to undo the damage.

So......how is the guy who wanted to kill Jacob in the first scene able to "channel" Locke? It sure seemed like Locke, with knowledge of his former castaways, being killed by Ben, etc. That one threw me for a loop.

Agree with Balrog....the 1977 Losties "are coming" back to "the present" (is there such a thing?). I hope it saves Sayid.

So any thoughts on how long Jacob and the mystery man have been on the island? The ship being brought in by Jacob sure looked like something from as far back as perhaps the 1700's?

I'm in the Miles camp. The Losties created "the Incident" by detonating the bomb...needing it to be encased in cement..."like Chernobyl" as Sayid said many seasons ago, when originally exploring the Swan.

Species, my take on that is that Jacob is "the light" and the other guy is "the dark". The dark dude controls "smokey", the smoke monster, who "scanned" Locke at one point, so perhaps thats where he got that.

I got the impression that the ship in the background was the Black Rock. That is just a guess but I think it makes sense on many levels. I haven't done any digging but I think I remember hearing that the ship was from the mid 1800's.

I think it is pretty clear that jacob and anti-jacob have been on the island for much longer than when they show them. They talk about how bringing the ship is not the first time jacob has brought people to the island and jacob is shown weaving patterns in a much ancienter style.
