What did the man say to Penny at the end?
"We found him." (?)
Statue reminded me of the Planet of the Apes a bit when the found the Statue of Liberty.
I, too, noticed th exchange between Jack and Kate...and Charlie's lack of "concern".
Locke admitting he was "wrong" to Eko was a powerful scene.

At the time, I wouldn't of thought that a man was down in that hatch, and when Locke was pleaded at the hatch window and the light appeared, I couldn't for the life of me understand what had just happened. But as time went by, with the discovery of a man (Desmond) below, which at the time seemed highly unlikely, I was glad that last night's final explained what had happened that brought about the light. When the light appeared to Locke, I felt it was a sign for him, but after last night, the issue of the light was more meaningful than I would have ever thought. I think Desmond was wrong about fate.
No sooner does Desmond reappear, like a flash he's gone again. :(

agreed. the scene where Locke admitted he was wrong was amazing.
it was the first time on the island where he stopped "believing". instead of the being the man of faith he had been through the first 40 or so episodes, his faith eroded, and he suddenly trusted science over faith.
oops.

Re: #326,
I really liked that scene too. Like the personal survival and renewal of the respective "faiths" of both Desmond and Locke were accidentally (or fatefully) dependent on one another. Very gratifying.
As for question #12 (four-toed statue), I read somewhere that it's a literary reference:
From "Headlong Hall" by Thomas Love Peacock:
"'The place is quite a wilderness,' said Squire Headlong: 'for, during the latter part of my father's life, while I was finishing my education, he troubled himself about nothing but the cellar, and suffered everything else to go to rack and ruin. A mere wilderness, as you see, even now in December; but in summer a complete nursery of briars, a forest of thistles, a plantation of nettles, without any livestock but goats, that have eaten up all the bark of the trees. Here you see is the pedestal of a statue, with only half a leg and four toes remaining: there were many here once.'"

Although that could just be complete malarkey. That reference makes it sound like there were just four toes remaining on a once five-toed statue. And the statue we saw on Wednesday night was definitely designed with four toes.
Huh. Four toes. Creepy.

I thought it was:
"we found it!"
If it was "him," then it would lend a lot more credence to the idea that they're looking for Desmond. But I heard "it," and assumed they were just looking for electromagnetic anomalies. Which in turn I thought could mean either Pen works for her Dad's parent company (Hanso), or that she's doing her own independent research, presumably because she thinks there's a link between the EMP's (go Matrix!) and Desmond's location/disappearance.
But I've heard various versions of both. I need to watch the whole thing again to check up on that and other things I missed.

One of the 'Lost' producers recently said:
"If you think you're still watching a show about people who crashed on an island, you're watching another show."

They (the producers) are running us in circles! I know its a conspiracy! Liars!
I just watched the end again and I heard "we found him" - but I'm watching on my computer - not TIVO - and the sounds isn't so great.

I'm starting to lean towards "him." Mostly because if it wasn't "him," it'd be harder to explain and would just open (yet) another can of worms.

a'Chair,
Are you referring to my post #335 above? If so, I was trying to explain my position on the Portuguese Polar Researchers' last words:
"We found it/him!"
Their reasons for being there and doing that research for Penelope could vary a lot depending on what they say.
Does that help?

I suppose my biggest question would be why the "others" didn't get off the island if they (according to Henry) know how to get rescued. How much fun can it be to live in huts on the rocks, wear grungy dirty clothes and eat fish all the time?
Oh yeah, and why (WHY!) did they want Sawyer, Kate and Jack. Ack - anyone have a valium?

Weird. For anyone who's been curious (like me) about show-related websites and such, the website for Oceanic Airlines has now changed to something strange:
http://www.oceanicairlines.com/
This used to be a semi-realistic looking travel site, with little show-related Easter eggs hidden in various places. Now it's a site entitled: "Possibility." And the only image is a weird blurry thing (with a file name of "W"). It looks like text to me. I'm going to futz around with Photoshop and try to clarify it.

The link is to an article that supports that "it" claim. Its author titles it as "spoiler" since it deals with information about Season 3, but it is a good read with an interview of the producers.

As for Kelvin Inman (Clancy Brown)...I got the feeling he wasn't quite at all like Joe Inman (Clancy Brown). So are they twins as suggested? I mean, Joe came across a whole lot different with Sayid, you wouldn't think he'd end up down in the ground pushing a button. Kelvin's personality was different than Joe, if you know what I mean.

beastiemiked (317/331) - From episode 2.02 Adrift ...
LOCKE: Wait. Wait, wait -- you're tying up the wrong person. DESMOND: How's that, brother? LOCKE: It's pointless to tie me up, I'm not dangerous. But her, she's a fugitive. DESMOND: So, what does that make you then, brother? LOCKE: I'm a regional collections manager for a cardboard manufacturer -- boxes primarily. DESMOND: All right then, box man, tie her up.

re 333: I will be severely pissed if they end this with it all having taken place in Walt's head like the series finale of "St. Elsewhere"
I don't even care about the circumstances of how/why Walt is imagining it (a Hanso experiment on children, he's autistic, etc.), it just won't work to cop out like that.

re 333: I will be severely pissed if they end this with it all having taken place in Walt's head like the series finale of "St. Elsewhere"
I'm with you. I hope like nothing else that the producers know how it's going to end up rather than just making up everything as they go along. However, after knowing that Jack was supposed to die in the pilot and the fact that we haven't seen the "monster" at all this season makes me think we will be eventually be disappointed. Of course, it's really tough to tell right now, and besides anything on HBO it's been one of the greatest series I've ever watched.

the producers have already said that this is not a snowglobe situation, and even acknowledged it tongue-firmly-in-cheek, on air, with Desmond's comments about being in a snow globe...

Re: #346-347, et al,
Yeah, this would suck, but thankfully the producers have discredited this idea as mentioned by Tree in #349. I posted a link in #261 to a list of theories that have been discredited by the producers, which is relieving to read.
Re: #344,
I'm an idiot. Thanks for pointing that out, Tosh. There's a serendipity of non-official sites out there. It's hard to keep track of which ones are show-supported and which ones aren't.

Re: #352,
Yeah, I see that's been confirmed elsewhere too.
Also, I read on Wikipedia that when the green bird flies out of the jungle, the closed-caption subtitles say, "Hurley!" Which confirms that the bird did indeed say his name.
And one question that I can't remember if anyone asked or answered--did we ever hear the correct answer to the "snowman" riddle that Kelvin Inman asked Desmond upon Des's arrival on the island? I know that Desmond answered "smells like carrots, doesn't it," but I'm not sure that's the right answer. Kelvin seemed to be looking for more.

Also, who is Radzinsky--the guy that Kelvin Inman claims was in the hatch before him, and who he says started the "map mural" of all the different hatch locations?
And what are we supposed to infer from the fact that the number that appeared on the Brazilian polar outpost guys' computer, 7418880, is the result of multiplying all of The Numbers together? And didn't those guys say something about having "missed it again," before they call Penelope to say that they had "found it"?
And finally, as far as timelines go, if it's daylight somewhere in one of the two global poles (assuming that's where the polar outpost is), and it's apparently nighttime wherever Penelope is, can we make an educated guess as to their respective locations?

Man indicted in robbery of 'Lost' star From United Press International June 12, 2006 7:17 AM EDT HONOLULU, Jun 10, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Bail was set at $1 million in Honolulu for the man suspected in six robberies, including that of "Lost" star Josh Holloway.
Ruben Royce, 21, was a neighbor of Holloway's in the Hawaii Kai neighborhood of Honolulu, KITV-TV, Honolulu reported.
Holloway, who portrays Sawyer in the ABC series, and his wife were robbed of their credit cards and car by a masked man who entered their home as they slept in October. Prosecutors claim the incident was part of a three-week crime spree masterminded by Royce.
In addition to the robberies, Royce will face attempted murder charges for allegedly firing a gun during a break-in near the University of Hawaii and injuring an elderly woman when he allegedly forced her door open, prosecutors said.
"Cooperating witnesses" helped authorities tie the string of robberies together, officials said.
Royce's attorney said his client would enter innocent pleas to all 30 felony counts handed down Thursday by an Oahu grand jury.

Just watched the whole 2nd season in 2 days. It's interesting but also frustrating how they just keep adding more questions than answers. I agree with the general sentiment that the writers better have this planned out well so we don't get some cliche' ending. New season starts in 2 1/2 weeks. Lost and 24 will be the only 2 shows I watch on TV.

Kate gets treated to a shower, a new dress, and breakfast on the beach, complements of fake Henry.
We get to see what fake Henry and Others were doing on the 815 crash day.

I'll agree with Tree that I loved the first 5 minutes, the rest of the episode was nothing to write home about. One think you can usually count on is the ending to contain some kind of twist/revelation. Finding out Gale's name was lame. It seemed like the only thing that happened after the first scene was the the Jack's dad teaser which turned out to be false. Guess they're just slowly building up to the end of the 7 episode run.
