Subject: Ultimate Trades - 2/25

- [2136257] Wed, Feb 25, 2004, 09:04
Thought it was time for a new one....
Today I'm thinking of beginning to move out of my Ottowa forwards.. (I have two Hossa and Havlat)... There are several ways to go here with nothing really screaming this is the best choice..
Illya - 4 games this week (2 against the rangers), coming off a 3 day break, should be rested. Walker/Sullivan - They've been hot since the trade, don't play until tomorrow, but have a nice looking schedule up to March 4. Cherkawski/Hunter - Also don't play until tomorrow, but have Rangers and 2 Pittsburgh games this week.....
Early in the season, I'd go with Sullivan, knowing that he will make money. But given my financial position, if I choose a Pred, I'd be more inclined to get Walker as I think he's a better scorer than Sullivan...
I will admit, I'm leaning towards the conservative pick up of Illya, but that could be why I'm in such a rut... I've fallen from 37 to 69 (actually i'm back up a little from 77, but you get the idea).
Anyone else making moves today.. Who are you considering? |

From Rotoworld: Sergei Gonchar will miss tonight's game with the flu. Of course rumours are now rampant that Gonchar may not have the flu and his absence may be due to an imminent trade of Gonchar following the departure of Robert Lang earlier today. For now, we will take the Capitals at their word and consider Gonchar day-to-day. Adjust your lineup accordingly.
Lovely. I had Gonchar going against Luongo, and with Lang traded I figured even if Luongo loses, its because Gonchar would do the scoring. But of course not, he has 'the flu'. :(

i picked up lang for his b2b, especially since the caps are doing a southeast run, and typically do well intra-conference.
and i'm a caps season ticket holder to boot. please, just shoot me now...
FWIW, the broadcasters on the local comcast feed stated that many of the players were feeling ill. sounded like possible food poisoning...
and, here's an interesting link that has popped up on the caps message boards (originally discovered by hockeysfuture):
http://www.torontomapleleafs.com/bio.ml?playerName=%20Sergei%20Gonchar
nobody's certain if it's wishful thinking, a well prepared webmaster, or a hacked site.

Anyone thinking of moving Aebischer? Just throwing it out there. I am mullin over Turco who is hot, and his Dallas team is hot, good at home, and still has four homes game in a row coming up (and the game after the fourth is at Pittsburgh).
Seems like a wave worth riding.
Smallwhirled: Your thoughts on this? I know you have indicated you want to hold Aebischer throughout. I have BOOKIE'S team today, and am mulling over this move on his trade-laden team (he has 6 in the bank, with $7M in cash).
thx, - walk

I guy like me can easily tell that most of the managers here do not have small kids who wake up early regardless of what day of the week it is. Ya'll sleepin' in...
;-)
Anyway. Redden --> Leetch on Bookie's team.
I figure that Leetch either has two games against two weak defenses, Atlanta, OR will be traded to a good team imminently (and NYC sources indicate such) where he will, IMO, have a nice offensive scoring spurt (he is still very good folks).

Walk - I'm tempted with Turco.
Here's the schedules:
Turco: EDM — — CBJ — CGY — SAN — @PIT Abby: — TAM — VAN — SAN — CGY @VAN —
Abby's got 3 tough games in there, while Turco looks pretty nice!!!! After that game @Pit, I'd probably go back to Turco, so...is this worth 2 trades? I dont know...yet!

I set my alarm. I'm up. I'm holding Aebisher, only 4 trades and I'm playing my cards against like 10 guys instead of the rest of the pool. I now have a nice advantage as all of my competition is down to 1 or 0.
I told J to get Turco, FWIW.

March 7 is not too far away. I'm also waiting on Leetch. I think what happened to Lang last week put that into perspective, he got traded into a 4 in 13 I think it was. I can just get real aggressive when the deadline has passed. Gonchar and Leetch are the guys I'm looking at moving into.

I was just messing around with the sartibles. Check this out...
Pittsburgh Penguins, out of players listed on the sartibles (IE-played once in the last 30 days) W Morozov, Aleksey PIT 880 D Tarnstrom, Dick PIT 1,320 G Caron, Sebastien PIT 2,190 G Fleury, Marc-Andre PIT 2,540
Those are the Pens most expensive TSN players, the other 21 guys...all 500k!!!!!

Hey walk, thanks for the team sitting... I'm glad you didn't move Abbey.. Colorado will get it together again soon and have such a great schedule that I'm not too worried about Abbey... Turco is however on my short list of replacements for Luongo in a few days along with Nabokov and Broduer....
As for Leetch, that could work out well... I was initially thinking Redden would become Gonchar after Gonchar gets traded, but Leetch is a pretty good option too and will likely end up on a good team in a few days.....

I moved to Gonchar hoping he'd do well in his B2B and then get traded... He missed both games with the flu and still hasn't gotten moved. Ugh.
I went Hossa -> Jagr with my last trade last night, not sure if it was a great move but I was drunk. ;)

Yeah, Leetch got you a goal today, but with the -1 and five shots, and a loss, it amounted to a whopping +25. Turco could have been a huge bust, but Guerin and the Stars actually came back and won 5-4 in OT. A +36 for Turco, I believe. I am glad we held.
I am thinking we should consider moving Jagr to HEJDUK.

Didn't you just talk me into getting Jagr.. now you want me to get rid of him ;->..... I'll be taking a look at a few recent underperformers between now and wednesday... Jagr is one of them... Nasland becomes an option on the 3rd, so I may just hold until then....

Yeah, bookie, i'm looking to move Jagr after his game on the 2nd to Naslund. Seems like a logical move and hopefully my $$$ advantage can finally start paying off with my players. It seems like money hasn't been as big a factor as years before cause all the 'big guns' aren't scoring at as much consistently as before. I'm hoping Forsberg comes back quickly as well. IF he was healthy the whole year he would have been the leading TSNP getter by far.

Not sure I understand the rush to get out of Jagr. He's got 4 games in 7 days, and 3 in 5 if you trade him after his game on the 2nd. Too, @BOS might be tough, but then its home for Washington and Pittsburgh, all within 4 days. And he appears to be healthy. So what am I missing?

I talk about holding Aebisher all the time, but now I'm wavering. Tough call, I have the trades to upgrade before the other top managers have a chance to. Problem is, Stillman and Sullivan have been solid.
Stillman/Sullivan > Naslund/Iginla seems good on paper, but not really gaining games, just not sure....lots of similar schedules.

Interesting SW, Calgary at the slumping St.L. tonight (okay, good one), then at Detroit, Dallas and then Colorado. I don't rate Kippy that high on my alternates to Aebischer list. However, my guess is you needed the $ to upgrade Stillman and Sullivan to Naslund and Iginla. If that's the case, then I understand.

I was pretty close to Iginla and Naslund anyways, have 6+ in the bank, maybe a mil or so short, but I'm just waiting a few more days before I move into Gonchar and Leetch on new, revitalized teams.
Di Pietro just didn't do it for me this time, the Isles are not playing as well as they were before when I had him. Nabakov is a guy I took on my B team, but wouldn't have really allowed me to upgrade next week, which I was setting up for.
Combine the Kolzing trade rumors/the Avs (although not necessarily Aebisher himself) slumping/and the huge expected dollar loss today. That's 3 negatives to the 1 positive, long term schedule. I went for it, we'll see. Sullivan and Stillman are what worry me the most.
Demitra comes back tonight for the Blues I hear. Looking to move back into Tkachuk as well in the next week or so, but Iginla does give me the +1 game advantage and I can root for Kippy at the same time.

Well it's a tough decision day.... I know I'm going to use some of my RV and go to Nasland from Illya today... But the real question for me is Luongo.... He's coming off the shutout and will surely start again tonight vs the Devils.. But I'm thinking of going to either Nabokov or Turco for the week starting today....

Went: Illya -> Nasland
Saw that Tugnutt may play tonight for Dallas, so decided to hold Luongo for one more day... could have gone to Nabokov, Broduer or Theo, but decided to hold...
Also holding Abbey, so depending on what the Avs do tonight, I may have to trade two goalies tomorrow not just one...

It did pay off quite nicely. I can't remember how many times I've made a pickup like that and got 100 points the first day out of it...it's been a lot, that's for sure.
I'm hanging on to Luongo today, but I'll likely trade him tommorrow for someone. I'm very, very tempted to trade Jagr now for Guerin or an Ott guy, but I just don't have that great feeling. May turn out better using the trade now, but I think Jagr will get up for games against his former teams.
Gonchar is now a Bruin, depending on when he's going to play, I may get him as early as tommorrow.

Good call on Khabi, he was awesome down the stretch for me last year. The Grahme thing scares me a little. Grahme could start for a lot of teams IMHO. They were spliting more earlier, but it looks like Khabi is playing most of them now.

Luongo and Aebischer --> Khabibulin and Nabokov; most likely moves I am making tomorrow.
I may also follow suit with Smallwhirled and trade either Redden or McCabe for Gonchar. I noticed that Gonchar is leading the league in points for a defenseman, with 50. However, thanks to the hapless Caps team, and his aggressive style, he also has a minus 20 rating. I bet (Doh!) that Gonchar will continue the scoring with Boston, but that -20 plus/minus will become "more positive," and thus make his net total TSN considerably higher.

My team is in a bad way right now... Time for some wholesale changes. Tonights action may still affect some of these moves, however
Pre freeze tomorrow:
Aebisher -> Nabokov Slegr -> Gonchar
Post freeze tomorrow:
Thornton -> Richards Jagr -> Guerin Raycroft -> Khabby/Turco (depending on remaining funds)

Definitely. I'll look at some schedules in a few hours after my mid-term, but Leetch should be every bit as good as Gonchar. The problem with my teams, is I already have McCabe. The guy I'm going to trade is Johnnson, and I don't want two Leafs D-men, therefore it's Gonchar for me most likely.

Yeah, I hearya on that SW -- having two leafs defensemen is not optimal. I currently have two Senators defensemen and wish I did not. I have McCabe, Redden and Chara. The more obvious move for me is to trade Redden (or Chara) to Gonchar. While I love the opponents Boston has over the next two weeks, Boston has one fewer game than Toronto (not sure if that is critical though).
Chances are, I move Redden to Gonchar...but my heart wants to move to Leetch (dang, how I love that guy...sob-sob, sniff-sniff).

Yes, R9. I though of that, too, however, that would leave me with but 1 trade in the bank. It seems too early in the week to have only 1 trade, given the possibility of injuries. So, for now, I think I have the freedom to make 1 D move, not two. Agree or disagree (not a rhetorical question)?

I'd definitely agree there. I guess you moved your two goalies as well? I'm torn on Aeb, but one factor there is that if I hold him I can make the Chara -> Leetch trade. I think I'll wait and see what Smallwhirled is doing. ;)
One thing is for sure though, you don't want to be down to 1 trade on Thursday morning. Especially not for a Tor -> Tor dman trade. I'd worry that Leetch will take over McCabe's spot (and pts!) on the PP though...
