0 Subject: TSN goalies

Posted by: DragonsRage
- [5180314] Sun, Oct 02, 2005, 20:35

There are 3 pretty cheap goalies that can have a huge price change if they play well.. iono who to choose to start the year off.
Kari Lehtonen $4.50
Mathieu Garon $4.50
John Grahame $3.23

Any ideas, or is picking one of these goalies to risky?

#27 Weekes is also injured (as per NY Post), Lundqvist will start tonight.

What's the deal out in LA? I have Labarbara on one of my teams
and he's been 2-0 with great numbers, which is more than I
expected out of my 500 K goalie... I heard Garon wasn't going to
be the #1

I can't believe it!

I go to the hottest goalie in the league in Luongo, and he gets pulled after letting in 3 of 15 shots!

Yeah but Garon started again tonite... I guess its a tandem in LA... I went to Dunham, he gets injured, I go to Luongo, he gets pulled... Geez maybe Labarbara is worth it, lol!

All I know is Grahame is off my team. I dont have patience waiting for that team to come around and I see Burke getting some starts regardless of how well TB fans think Grahame is playing.

I can't figure out what I want to do with Grahame. Gigure would be the guy with the best schedule, but I don't know if I want to spend that kind of money for a goalie. Looking through the cheapies...Miller has a bad sked. You have Labarbara. You have Markkanen. There are a couple others in there too, I'm just not sure which guy I want to settle on.

I say don't touch him for the next week at least. TB plays 3 games in the next 7 days, that's as good as you are gonna get except for Cloutier who is struggling to say the least.

I may wait.

He is heavily owned. After the upcoming B2B, I guarantee you there is a huge selloff. So instead of 7 days, look at it as he can only be held until the 16th at the very latest, IMHO.

Well if you want to look that short term TB plays 2 games in the next 3 days. It is illegal to have a better schedule :). Well I guess not being a back to back would have helped. But TB has already shown earlier that they are not afraid to play Grahame in back-to-back games.

I think it really depends what he does on the 1st day of the back to back.

I am planning to move Grahame after Sunday's game against Washington. Three days off followed by back to back games against Atlanta and Ottawa and then four more days off, just doesn't look very appealing.

I don't know who I will move to though. Maybe Lundqvist if Weekes is still hurt.

Predicting if someone will lose/gain money is not that difficult. Now predicting whether it is worth it or not is another matter :).

Goalies are, to me, difficult to pick this year (aside ferom luongo). It is hard to drop big $$ on a Roberto or a Martin in the early goings...and there really hasnt been anything enticing to grab underneath the high dollar boys. Maybe it is too early but I dont see goalies playing the role they have in the past...especially with the trap gone and the new rules...your best GAA this year may be in the 3.00 range....

I still like Labarbera at goalie, if you want to bulk up on offense. He is splitting time, but he could be a decent go-to guy for the big TB gap and then back to grahame.

oh the goalie situation is really really pissing me off

first I go to Luongo. Best goalie in the league.
-27 TSNP. Ok. That's cool. 9 mil. Great.

then I moveny other goalie to Roloson. 6 TSNP. that's less that 1 TSNP per million $ spent.

Beautiful. 15.5 mil on -21 TSNP.

And guess what? Fernandez allows only 1 goal on 27 shots for Minny. Guess whose getting benched next game? That's the 6 and a half million dollar question.

Couldn't sleep, so I did a little research on Labarbera.

"The Blue Jackets will be without forward Rick Nash, their top scorer, for two weeks because of an injured right ankle. Jason LaBarbera will start in goal for the Kings; Murray has said at this point that one bad game would not take LaBarbera or Mathieu Garon out of the every-other-game goaltender rotation." - LA Times

That kinda sucks for those of us hoping Lab would take over, but on the flip side he's garanteed a start every 2nd game even if he sucks or Garon does great. Assuming nothing changes in that rotation, it means 4 starts in 18 days or 5 in 24 for Labarbera. Which kinda sucks, given that a team like Florida has 12 games during that span (24 days) and Luongo just might start 'em all. Still, other options like Hasek in Ottawa only have 9 games in 24 days, 3 of which are B2B, so probably only 7 starts at most. I don't see any other options right now out of Grahame (other then Legace who most of us already have) so I might just go this route and freely give up 3-4 goalie starts to use the money up front. Too, I could get lucky and Labs wins the spot outright.

Anyway those are my thoughts on the matter. Where else are you Grahame owners thinking of going?

Rotoworld says that the NY Post says that Weekes hopes to practice today and play this coming Wed or Thursday. I looked in the Post (online) today and could not find this article, but I trust that it's there, somewhere.

With the 4 in 6 for the rangers, I think Lundqvist will easily get at least 2 of the starts, if not 3. However, one is against Luongo tonight.

Hmm, is this your first year playing? You have quite a lot used for D. Just wondering why you'd buy two expensive TB defensemen.

Just didn't have enough money for a better option.

This is so bloody frustrating...

I have 15+ mil invested in Luongo and Roloson, and both are either playing like crap, or not playing (Roloson).

I have 2 trades. What do I do? Trade Roloson for Labarbera and hope Luongo can step it up? Trade Luongo and hope Roloson can get some starts and step it up?

How about don't do anything. You are looking for "future" performance. That said, Roloson and Luongo should still pan out and be worth it in the long run (2 weeksish).

You can't just go out and trade every goalie when he has one bad game. Florida sucks. The Rangers killed them tonight. It could've been 7-0.

Primarily, you need to be using your trades on RV. If your current guy has a good sked, and is not losing money, then he should be held.

Agreed, sw. I haven't done much else right, but I haven't wasted any trades on goalies. It's too risky to go for 1-2 games no matter how good the matchup is. I've held Giguere and Cloutier since the start and don't plan to move them for quite awhile unless a money making opportunity comes up.

Well, all the Lundqvist owners look like geniuses. Not a lot of ownership either, so I wonder if there will be a lot of Luongo->Lundqvist moves tomorrow? Of course the Grahame owners (if any are left) will likely follow as well.

Yeah, I've never seen a $400k drop, let alone $300k....whoa. I am a huge rangers fan and still did not buy Lundqvist because of what the coach said about Weekes still being the #1 goalie, and Weekes is due back Wed or Thu. So, I figured it'd be a nice $ move, but that it'd be quite short term. Well, +$160k and a shutout is a nice short-term gain! Anyhow, I watched some of the game last nite, and as a fan, it is is refreshing to see a young, fast, energetic team out there, and to see the fans being very supportive. It's been a looooooooong time. I wonder how long it can last? Jagr is also healthy and shooting and his line on the power play is very effective.

Re: Post 56

This is my third year playing Ultimate hockey.

I was extremely busy at the beginning of the hockey season and was planning to enter a day late, week late or slow build team, but there were some people who were whining about these strategies. As a result, I quickly entered a team with a full roster for opening day. I did this by first selecting the forwards and goalies that I wanted and spent the remaining cash on defensemen. Since, I had approximately $15 million left, I purchased three mid-priced defensemen that I did not plan to use trades on.

This was not a plan that I would normally have chosen, but given the pressure to enter a full roster prior to the season starting and my lack of time to tweak my roster, I thought that it was the best option.

With that kind of drop from Grahame shouldn't we expect to see a similar drop by Legace as well?

Legace is owned by a large group of managers, and he's going into a 3 day break with the cloud of Osgood hanging over his head.

But, on the other hand, Legace has been outstanding and perhaps managers are inclined to hold him over this break.

There was a popular trading option for Grahame in Lunquist... I don't see one for Legace right now so id assume a minor hit on Legace, if there's going to be one at all.

Grahame: -320,000
Legace: -80,000

Lundqvist: +210,000
Barbera: +60,000
Raycroft: +50,000
Miller: +40,000
Cujo: +40,000
Markaanen: +40,000

I had 6 trades and used one (yes I know it'll be 2 by the time i move him again) to temporarily moved out of Legace and into Lundqvist strictly for money. I don't think Lundqvist is finished gaining just yet. Probably by game time tomorrow we'll see the last of the acquistions.

I am sticking with Legace on my teams that have him. Nice money gain though with the trade. I hope to regain any money lost and then some by holding him, plus I like the schedule next week - hopefully osgood takes longer then expected and I get those games in.

Legace's schedule does look pretty nice after this little 3 day break, a weird schedule has them in Columbus for 2 games, then they play Chicago 3 times in a row???? strange.

I moved to Lundqvist for the $$$ too, also needed to trim a little cash to afford some other moves I wanted to make. And Osgood should be back on Monday, not really sure how much Legace is gonna play. I can't imagine Osgood would be the #1 though.

wtf can I do about Roloson?

FWIW, I'm almost positive that Roloson's going to start against Vancouver on Tuesday... But hey, nothing with Roloson's starts should be news to anyone seeing as Minni's deployed the a rotation system since the franchises inception.
