Subject: Week 3 trades

I thought I'd start a new trade thread since the original strategy thread was designed for more general things but it turned into a trade thread.
As for the end of week 2... Bergeron > Crosby today. |

Staal will be the biggest loser today. If you have the trades to do it, consider dropping him.

with Staal and Gagne and others being so highly owned.. I'm not that worried about Dejardin.. They play the day after trade refresh and I think people will be more concerned with Forwards than Dmen with Limited trades....
John Smith... I'd say in basic I'd be more inclined to get prospal, because of the suspected lower ownership....

Actually with a closer look, I may actually be agle to get Gagne from Selanne without the Thornton trade.... So I'm going to hold Joey T for now, I'll move him if I do end up needing the cash

I don't think there's anyway Desjardins is going to drop because of his 3 day break. On the contrary, i believe his value is going to steadily increase over that span, as more managers look to stabilize thier defence for the long term with a cheapie, from cheapies. But i guess well see.

Funny you mention about holding onto that last trade because of the potential to lose money, because that's the exact reason why im thinking about using it now ;). The only player that really worries me in terms of catching me off guard is Legace. He NEEDS to start his next game, whats more, he needs to at least stay positive in TSNP. His next game is Tuesday vs. Chicago, if he for whatever reason fails to perform, then im sure Babcock will give him a chance to redeem himself thier next game on Thursday. That could drag things out just long enough for me to get to the trade refresh before things get ugly. That's the best, worst case scenario of course.
I've stil got some time to mull this over... You do bring up a good point about the big price swings this year... Quite unusual.

Legace is here to stay.
I dont think Osgood will take his job, not the way Legace has been handling the pipes so far. Maybe will he sit a little more, but thats it.
He still has a good sched coming up (CHI, EDM, PHO, ST-L), so I dont see him taking any kind of financial hit.
Any word on Cloutier's injury yesterday? Auld could be a nice pickup for a while.

I don't see how Legace can lose his job.. He's been in that upper tier of goalies in the new NHL with just a few other guys..
top 5 in the league so far

I moved Salo for Jackman... This'll be a 2 week experiment, and if it doesn't pan out, ive identified a date to move to Visnovsky. I figured if there was any time to go tradeless early, maybe this was the week to do it, since so few teams are playing over the next couple of days, the risk of injury is minimal.
Hockey gods, please don't punish me.

I'm looking at my team this morming, I finally got out of the bottom of my Division and I want to go up...
I have 2 trades in the bank with about 6 millions left to spend...
I want to trade someone to keep my momentum to the top.... Here is my question:
Who would be the best Kippy with is next 4 games at home no B2B but Vancouver twice...
I'm looking a Luongo 1 B2B and all next 4 games on the road...

I asked this because I wonder if it is worth it to go to a goalie here, when, next week there are already a bunch of trades that are accounted for. There are at least 3 trades already accounted for, for most teams. Selling of Heatley/Spezza, and the buy of Gagne. Gotta be ready for all 3 of those moves.

Heatley -> Gagne isn't very efficient though, and unless you skip the money Gagne is likely to make you'll lose 2 Heatley games.

I agree, I just think its better to use an extra trade to find a way to keep those two Heatley games.

I don't like those games for Ottawa much, though. Buffalo and Tampa have been stout defensively so far and you might not get many points out of the deal.

I now have Kippy and Graham...
I'm aware of the sell off comming on Sat for the Ottawa guys, I haven't decided yet who to pick from them (Spezza/Heatly) and I also have 3 Ana guys that will need to go the following day... I have enough trade to do so with the comming refresh... I have 2 in bank now and I was wondering if I should use 1 to go Kippy => Luongo...

Im not waiting for the 5th to roll around on my Ottawa players. I still need to make a ton of cash and my gut tells me that when people get their trades on Wednesday they will look at schedules and see Ottawa plays Thursday then has 1 game in the next week.
Im betting the Ottawa sell off is Thursday night.

If you're selling off on Thursday night who would you go for!!! Tampa, Vancouver and Dallas all have nice sched I would see Vinny from Spezza and maybe Naslund from Heatly.. On my side I'll probably go Selanne to Gagne on the 5th..... I also have Lupul to sell and I haven't decided yet for who!!!

My Spezza/Heatley will turn into Forsberg/Gagne on thursday, just in time to avoid the bleeding as well as catch Philly's matches against Caps and Thrashers.

Boy, I always have a tough time selling players who are hot and who have games...for the sake of beating a sell-off or optimizing on the opponent. I feel like that plan has often backfired on me, either in terms of lost points or an injury that I could have avoided had I played it less aggressively.
On paper, Samuli, your timing makes sense...and I am in the same situation, but am not sure I'm going to sell those Ottowa players before Thursday...maybe they're primed to lose $ after that game, and then they only have that 1 game against NYI before the 4-day layoff, but my gut tells me they will light it up against the Isles and the Isles' inconsistent defense. I dunno. I'd hate to lose big $ with the hold, too, so will likely bail when the crystal ball says so, but I wonder...

You are of course correct samuli - the NYI game is why it's a difficult decision. With Spezza already dropping -20K it will be interesting to see how long folks hold out. I sold Spezza yesterday for Yashin and avoided that - we'll see how the differentiation move works out.
Heatley goes for me after the Buffalo game and will become Ovechkin. I'm still wrestling with when to sell Selanne and pick up Gagne. Selanne has been red-hot and faces two mediocre defenses, while Gagne faces one awful one over Nov. 3-4. It will probably come down to how the money moves today and tomorrow.

I asked my magic 8 ball if it would be a good move to sell off Ottawa players on Thursday.
Response: You may rely on it.
I followed it up with "Will I lose out lots of points from missing the Ottawa Isles game?"
Response: My reply is no.
For good measure I asked the 8 ball if it would lie to me to get back at me for dropping it off my desk just prior to asking these questions.
Response: Outlook Good.
Well, now I dont know what to do.

Which situation looks better to you guys:
Situation A Hasek to Kiprusoff tonight
Heatley will turn into Gagne Spezza will turn into Lecavalier
Situation B Hasek to Grahame either tonite, or when OTT's schedule turns sour...
Heatley will turn into Gagne Spezza will turn into Forsberg
If I do situation B, I'll have more money left over. Question is: When do I go Hasek to Grahame? Hasek lost another 60K today, but if I trade him to Grahame tonight, Grahame will have to play Ottawa, which scares me, Atlanta, which can get some offence, and Toronto. In that time Hasek plays Islanders, Buffalo, and Tampa..

Who do you have as your other centers? I'd aim at getting a hold of Forsberg AND Lecavalier... But then I suck at this game currently and seem to succeed only in building RV. Which in itself is not bad but some points wouldn't hurt.
In short, go by the gut I say. =) Burke is hurt so Grahame has guaranteed starts, and will make money as well.

I'd take the 1st pairing Ira. Actually I already have, I own both. I don't see a whole lot of difference between Grahame and Kiprusoff, besides a cool 5 mil.
You could also go Grahame/Vinny and bank some money for later...

samuli, I've got Morrison and Lindros. Both have solid schedule, I got both like a week ago knowing I'd be able to bank trades with their skeds.
I guess I'll go Hasek>Grahame today, and make the next decision later.

The thing I don't like about Osgood is if Legace comes back after say a week it forces a second trade. I guess that's a good reason to watch the news tomorrow to see what they say about the severity of the injury.

So....
who's picking up Montreal players for their back to back against Buffalo on Friday?
With a veteran like Belfour you can expect them to bounce back after a bad game. But young guys like Biron and Noronen? Their confidence must be shattered.
And Montreal's been playing pretty well lately too.

I couldn't help it, i moved Jackman for Visnovsky... I feel better already by even just having him there, nevermind the points i missed out on. He's a hold until an injury or armageddon erupts, which ever comes first.
Now to start repairing the damage i inlficted last week on my team. Thinking about moving Legace to Osgood, since he is getting the next 3 starts according to the CP. If he makes it to the LOS on Wednesday game as a starter ill be happy. The other options i guess are Auld (short term) and Labarbera (questionable short term sched, still splitting time?).
