Big time trouble with LaBarbera:
Jason Labarbera has left the Kings to deal with a family matter. It is not known what is wrong, nor when Labarbera will return. We will keep you informed. The Kings are expected to call up Adam Hauser from Manchester to back up Mathieu Garon. Nov. 14 - 7:00 am et Source: Los Angeles Times
This messes things up nicely, as i don't have enough money to upgrade to anyone meaningful (other than Grahame, and id prefer not to go there), and not enough trades to create neccessary funds to get a quality replacement until Thursday. I'd image several teams are in a similar position as well. What to do?

It's possible he may only miss one game, seeing as he has apparently returned to Los Angeles to deal with his matter. If it gets resolved quickly, he might be able to join the team on thier home stand.
That's me trying to justify not wasting a trade this whole situation.

I like the rationalization, The Dienasty, cos I'm in the same boat...Let's hope this gets resolved before the market swings...
This article indicates that Labarbera could be out for an extended period of time, but it's really quite uncertain given the lack of details.

The only option I can see is moving LaBarbera>Markkanen (8 in 17) on Wednesday.
Atleast we'll have a couple days before we're forced to make the decision.
and when the crap is Jagr's bleeding going to stop? another -70K last night...
Also, after all that gain, Staal was down 40K last night? Man, these price changes are startin to piss me off..

Star scorer Alexei Kovalev of the Montreal Canadiens will undergo knee surgery Tuesday in Pittsburgh. Habs GM Bob Gainey was to address the media at the Bell Centre later Monday. While it won't be known for certain exactly how long Kovalev will be out of the Habs' lineup, sources tell TSN the initial expectation is he will miss at least a month.

7 trades with only no money in the bank.
I want to trade Labarbera but I see no options without trades McCabe.
I hate to use 2 trades on this, if he only misses a game.

For me, this probably uses up my emergency trade, but I have 2 options. Use a trade to free up cash to go to a stud, or use 1 and stay cheap.
The "cheaper" options are Garon, Markannen, and Dunham.
There are a few issues here. The cheap options to free up cash are primarily from LA. LA starts a 3 in 8 today, and the sked is much better starting Next Tuesday for them (skaters).
What expensive options are appealing right now? Seriously I don't see a whole lot. Aebischer could be decent if there is a lot of money available.
Plus, to free up money, which studs would you want to sell? Any team that has a couple Sens plus a couple Philly means they only have a few slots left, and if the manager knows what he/she is doing, they probably are in good skeds as well, which makes it harder to justify downgrading....
With all of that added up, I think I'm going to stick to the "mold" of my team setup and go to Dunham today.
All this does is make Prospal > Ilya now have to be Hejduk > Ilya. But Hejduk still is still hurting and just got moved off PP1, so even with a great sked, I'm cutting some losses there, while Prospal at least has played very well.

Went with Dunham too, I didn't like any of the expensive options at all. (Other then Hasek, but their schedule is weak.)
Labs being out 'indefinitely' is a bad sign imho. If he was just going to a funeral or something it would be a known amount of time, indefinitely implies something else. Could be 3 days, could be a month?

Picked up Labarbera saturday, out he goes now for Markannen, without having played a single game. No money for other options, Im not going to get burned a 3rd time by Graham (which got sold for Labarbera on saturday), I learned my lesson.
At least I made 160k. Even if he does not play tonight, Labarbera wont either and he'll start to bleed. I would expect a loss > 50k tonight, which is usually a light trading day.

Yeah, a sore groin, which is why Dunham was removed (conservative move they said) can easily be tweaked with one stretch...that seems awfully risky.

Such angst. Well, I traded Labarbera two times, once for his teammate, Garon, and once for a seldom-used back-up who always wins, Emery of Ottowa. My rationale was to ensure that I had enough cash to be able to move Prospal to Kovalchuk without having to trade down, and to avoid Dunham, who's injury risk is too great for my stomach. I'll eat no P-T for Emery (he started the last game for Ottowa, and now won't play for 3-4 more games) and hopefully be able to move him right back to Labarbera after his price declines.

Have until 11 PM, but I'm trying to make a rationale...
I see Dunham as being equal to Tellqvist or Emery (with price being the negative), but with upside that the others don't have. Dunham is the ONLY goalie in Atlanta right now is what I keep thinking.......Ugh, this sucks. I don't like the idea of freeing up cash to upgrade.
Labs's losses? I don't know if it's huge today. There should be a Detroit selloff too. Tommorrow and Wednesday are probably different stories though.

Dunham vs. Markkanen contemplation
Dunham only played the 1st period last game, but I'm assuming it's because Atlanta had a 5-0 lead at intermission, so they decided to rest him. If he's injured, someone say something.
Providing it's a short term hold (2 weeks)
Atlanta's schedule is 7 in 14 Islanders (good), Toronto (don't know what to think), Philly (REALLY bad), Montreal (bad), Rangers (probably bad), Florida (good), Carolina (bad) Toronto-Philly is back to back. I'm guessing Dunham will only play 1 of those games, considering Philly is one of the teams..
Edmonton's schedule is 6 in 14 Colorado (bad), Detroit (sorta bad, we do well against Detroit), Chicago (good), San Jose (don't know what to think), Minnesota (see San Jose), Calgary (see Minnesota)
Both are around the same price..

I think i may go with *deep breath*... Grahame. Looks to be a lock for the next 2 starts, so there's potential for some TSNP, that is, if the defending Stanley Cup champion team ever chooses to start playing like one. Tonigts game against Philly worries me, but if he gets blownout itll at least be at the hands of Gagne, Forsberg and Pitkanen :| .

I don't have a link for Dunham but I recall hearing the same thing as walk, a groin thing. He's just way too risky a pick for my blood.
This one REALLY has me stumped, even on my team that has 7m in the bank. It's even harder for my teams that have 1-2m in the bank. I hate to use two trades on this but I really don't like the cheapie options right now.

Damn, I think I'm going to go with Markkanen on at least 2 teams. I think he's going to be the most obvious trade from LaBarbara, as a lot of people won't be able to afford anyone else without using 2 trades, and because he was one of the few goalie gainers last night.
At least I should see some RV gains from this mess, even if the points are pretty uncertain.

I am taking a chance on Dunham. Leaves me flexability with the moves I want to make down the road. I'm not letting one injury make me re organize my whole team. It is built for a stud in every spot besides goalie, and I'm keeping it that way.
Forsberg just showed me on TV why I like him on my team.

thats what happens when you put your eggs in the basket of a cheap goalie, to get out of it you either have to burn two trades or buy a back-up who plays every two weeks. Lets say this happened to Svatos, you could always move over to Vorobiev or Hossa or some other PRODUCING cheap player. The same can't be said for goalies. This game is much like playing the stock market. Any wise investor will tell you to "hedge" your investment .... meaning have a back-up plan in all cases (either extra trades or players to (money) for your whole line up in case of injury). If you leave yourself open you WILL get burned several times through the coarse of the year.

I tend to agree. I know smallwhirled is all about his cheap goalies, but I don't buy it. I think I'd rather have Jason Williams and a Luongo type goalie then have Forsberg and a cheap goalie like Labs/Markannen, etc. Its alot easier to replace Williams with one trade than it is to find another cheap goalie.
Of course, with that being said, I am now a Mike Dunham owner!!!

I wouldn't be arguing that point if there were three other one million dollar goalies out there that were VIABLE options to move to, but there aren't. If you take on a player that can't be readily replaced at any given moment you WILL get burned. It is a six month 82 game schedule. I have no empathy or sympathy for those who owned Legace for example and had no trades left to dump him when he got injured. Looking at my line-up if I owned Gagne, Staal, Jagr, Spezza, Legace, Heatley (the most widely owned players) and burned all my trades by Saturday I am asking for trouble. I have to be able to move any player for (in my mind) an equal player at any time. If I don't think this through along those terms I will not win anything.

Yeah, I do like cheap goalies. I've always liked them. Even in the years where scoring was WAYYY down, I've done much better with bigtime stud fowards and cheap goalies.
I'm going to continue to play this way, but once we get near the midway point it is not going to be a factor for my team anyways as I will have enough RV to cover everything. I'm just trying to get to that point first...

Well if you burnt your trades by saturday the price of your goalies is of remarkable insignificance seeing you won't be moving them anywhere anyway.

Same. I've gotten burned enough times this year on uncertain goalie situations, whether it was due to goalie controversies or injuries, I decided it was better to go with a guy who might not be the best goalie, but is healthy and the clear starter. So for me Dunham and Grahame just weren't options for me - Markkanen was my man.
Of course that said, Markkanen sat last night! So what the heck do I know? :)

I have now Straka and Staal up there and I have 2.11 Million left in the bank...
Here are my option at the moment :
Ryan Getzlaf (1.18) Anaheim have a really nice sched comming up for the next 2 weeks, againt tough opponent.. He should see more ice time how that Federov is gone...
Tim Connolly (0.5) Buffalo have a really good sched too but Connolly will be behing Briere and Drury up there...

The main problem with Carter is this hole in the sched, 1 game in 5 days, I'll have to sell Gagne for this and if I have also Carter I would have to sell him too, Connolly could stay much longer and won't loose me money...
