Welcome back RGFHLers! Were on the cusp of September and you know what that means. I hope everyone had a safe and fun off-season, and trust that Fosten partied hard with his 2023-24 Championship all summer long :)
Yahoo Fantasy Hockey is live and the league has been renewed. We'll first do a roll call here to confirm all managers are back and proceed from there with establishing Keeper dates, draft start date and anything else we'd like to address. At the same time, the floor is open for any suggestions on scoring and roster tweaks, and other league related topics that anyone would like to discuss. I know some people view the Yahoo league message board first so i'll copy this over there too.
RGFHL Year 18 - 2023-2024 League Settings Review
Roster positions to draft:
3 C, 3 LW, 3 RW, 5 D, 1 Util, 2 G, 4 bench.
Miscellaenous positions:
1 IR position for IR players
1 IR+ position for day to day, and out type players.
Draft Order is the reverse of the final finish from last year.
Forwards/Defensemen Stat Categories:
Goals (G), Assists (A), Plus/Minus (+/-), Blocks (BLK), Powerplay Points (PPP), Shots on Goal (SOG), Hits (HIT)
Goaltenders Stat Categories:
Wins (W), Goals Against Average (GAA), Save Percentage (SV%), Saves (SV)
Housekeeping items:
1. Any suggestions for league settings changes (ie. scoring, roster size, etc) are welcomed.
2. Key NHL dates - Opening night: October 10, 2023, Regular season end: April 18, 2024
3. Key RGFHL dates - Keepers submission deadline: TBD, Fantasy draft start date on Draftime: TBD
4. Roll call - Confirmed returnee managers please check-in. |

Post 36 says "the core five: G, A, H, BK, SOG. And we'll vote on the last three from the available categories below to achieve 8.”
Post 40 says "Skaters (9 categories): G, A, PPP, H, BK, SOG, PIM, +/-, SHP”
I believe it should say "Skaters (8 categories): G, A, PPP, H, BK, SOG, +/-, SHP"

Re: 51 - thanks for catching that. Yes you're right, i made a typo. The correct scoring categories should read:
Skaters (8 categories): G, A, PPP, H, BK, SOG, +/-, SHP
Goalies (3 categories): W, Saves, SV%
I'm not optimistic about our changes of wrangling 1 more (let alone 2) managers in the near future. Anyone who's already certain of their keepers and don't need to wait for the recruitment effort to finish is welcomed to share their keepers now. We'll set the keeper deadline as Sept 27th to allow us a good amount of time to start the draft right after and complete before puck drop.

Re: 55 - Thanks CSF. Dr. Doom also does not seem to be returning this year, so please remove him from Draftime as well if you haven't yet. I'll send another reminder via Yahoo for everyone to submit keepers as soon as possible, and we'll roll straight into starting the Draft.

I've added the keepers to Draftime and notified KKB to see if I can transfer the draft over to The Dienasty. Hopefully this can be done.
I've currently made The Dienasty Co-Admin so that I don't hold up the draft any longer. There's a $10 usd charge that needs to be paid before round 4.
Let me know when you want to start the draft. I can start it anytime.

Thanks CSF. I believe we can launch the draft now at Draftime, I’ll have a longer look at the admin controls there shortly as I’m running around a bit at the moment. Many thanks if you have been covering the $10 fee for us all these years, I had completely forgot there was such a thing to begin with. As Commish, I’ll take the duty of the payment this year via PayPal to get us rolling, and we can work out a more balanced way to do it going forward.

Fosten has just mentioned he knows someone who would like to join the league, and id like allow a short amount of time for the person to join, the more the merrier I say. Fosten, I’ve just emailed him a league invite and assuming it can be accepted in a timely manner, well allow Richard to join. Please remind him to claim one of the available roster in the recruitment post, and make his keepers available here. Then we’ll need to add him over at Draftime and immediately start the draft. I don’t think we can wait much more than 24 hours at this point as we’re really up against puck drop.

The Dynasty, looks like KKB transferred Admin control to you over at Draftime. One thing that needs to be updated is the draft order within draft. I had originally set it for 10 but it needs to be reset to 11 and hopefully Rick has joined.
He should be drafting in Dooms position since he claimed Doom's team. Between you and Filthy (6th)

Thanks, yes i see i now have Admin control of the league at Draftime, and i see Rick has joined. I have added his keepers to Draftime as well, but what i don't see is a live button that allows me to change the draft order. I've emailed Draftime (KKB) in hopes of it being sorted asap.

Ok, the draft order is now set. I had to re-enter all keeper picks as something cleared all the previous entries when the set draft order issue was fixed. Taxman has graciously offered to help enter picks into Yahoo as they come in, to allow us to have an up to date reference of picked/available players. And with that... We are underway!
Taxman, you are on the clock.
Hope everyone has a good draft, and please keep me posted if any issues arise via a message here (I'll be checking daily), or an email via the Yahoo Fantasy page.

I'm pretty disappointed in our new member. It's just a dead team at the moment. I would have preferred the team to be disbanded and put back into the pool rather than have an apathetic team hindering everyone elses chances. The roster is short 4 players and currently one active roster player is IR. WTF!!!
It's hard to grind out roto pts and even harder when a team with the caliber of players on the roster just throws in the towel.
McDavid on a dead team. What a travesty.
Can the commish step in and take over this team like I did when our previous manager went awol.

Wow losing Christian/Superfreak is a huge loss.
We will need to do some serious recruiting OR if the league is going to shrink in Managers, I suggest we increase the roster size and daily positions. Could be accomplished by adding Utility slots.
I would not increase the Number of Keepers.

Congrats Ira! You won the SHP lottery, but you had also Kucherov with an amazing season, and dominated in hits and blocks, and with good goalies, a well balanced team, well done!
It’s sad to see good managers leave, but I hope that we can keep this league going.

Congrats to Ira! Fantastic battle in the final month with the lead flip flopping multiple times. As close to the wire as I’ve seen in many years. I figured if I had any chance to win, it’d be by the slimmest of margins (like tied points with tie breaker in my favor slim), and if you won it’d be by at least a few points spread, which is exactly what transpired.
Sorry to see you go, CSF. A former champ and commish, the door is always open in case you change your mind. I’d love to keep this league going, with the intent on expanding back to a full 12 teams if possible. With that said, I’ll initiate the roll call earlier this off-season so we can prepare earlier recruiting, and I implore our league mates to reach out to any friends/family you can vouch for whom you think may interested to join as well (shoot me an email or reply here). To anyone outside the league reading this now that’s already interested, the window is open starting now. Feel free to drop a line here, I will be checking in.

Re: Cobwebs, my strategy seems to have worked as I was hoping the rest of the league might see the SHP category as a lottery. My team was projected to have 26 according to my prep sheet and I finished with 28 ;) Maybe I've let the cat out of the bag for next season haha
Was a super close finish right to the end. Unfortunate of the inactivity at the bottom but was a competitive season nonetheless.
Has been a treat competing with you CSF. Hopefully you are tempted yo return at some point :)

Almost too swept away with real life playoff fever to send congrats!
Couple Canadian teams still got life to bring the Cup back home. Homer heart says Go Canucks Go, but brain sees the Oilers looking really impressive on both sides down the stretch this year. Hoping the Jets can make it a series but Avalanche seem built for playoffs.
Thanks for your service CSF. Would be nice to bring some life back to this league to tempt you back down the road!! I go through stretches where I'm just going through the motions trying to max my games played, technically harming my draft positioning for the following year by not mailing it in, but my OCD mind finds that fun. Thanks for the competition everybody.
I'd love to see a mini draft lottery if we're contracting to 10 teams, the temptation to tank it for McDavid was very tough to resist once we hit 2024. Maybe first place gets 1 entry, 2nd place 2 entries, down to 10th with 10 entries. There has to be an easy way to simulate this online and a trusty league mate to organize it...

Ok, at the moment im unable create a new post here in the Rotoguru hockey forum, so below ill post what was meant to kick things off in a new thread for the sake of timing:

Hey all, hope everyone had a great off-season. It's September and know what that means, another Fantasy hockey season is upon us! I'd been meaning to get us rolling earlier but several life events are unfolding at once (a big home move, kid starting kindergarten, new responsibilities at work) which have occupied much of my down time. It's also at this point i'd like to ask if anyone would like to step-up and help co-commish the league, just to help keep us on time for the start of the season, and have an extra eye on in-season happenings that require action. Please drop a line here.
With that, our itemized action list looks as follows, i believe knocking them off in the presented order should keep us moving smoothly:
1) Manager check-ins - Raise your hand if you're coming back
2) New manager recruiting - We will have two vacancies heading into 2024-25 (assuming all current managers return) and it would be great to add 1 or 2 more to the league. Anyone reading this is welcomed to drop a line here to show your interest. Full league settings will be shared below this post
3) Discuss any league desired settings/scoring adjustments, and how to handle dispersal of CSF's vacated team if no one claims (I don't have any ideas at the moment outside of re-entering all players into the pool).
4) Set keeper submission date, set draft start date
