Subject: RIHC Draft - 2004/05
Posted by: Guru
- [330592710] Mon, Oct 11, 2004, 14:54
The draft for 2004/05 has begin.
The draft is being hosted at kafenatid.net, using their "On The Clock" software. League managers should access the draft here. Those outside the league can review the draft progress with this link.
The draft will run for 15 rounds, and will snake. Here is the draft order:
1 Coldwater Coyotes 2 Doug 3 Slackjawed Yokel 4 Dave R 5 blackjackis21 6 RSF 7 Rand 8 Mike D 9 Swish/Edgar 10 APerfect10 11 Guru 12 HoopsKlyce
For round one, I have set the clock at 24 hours, which I expect is tantamount to having no clock. After one round is completed and everyone has gone through the process, the clock will be shortened to 8 hours. There will be a clock moratorium every day from midnight-7am ET. If your pick times out, you may make it at your next opportunity, but the draft will proceed without you.
When entering a draft pick, please make sure you put the first and last names in the correct boxes. The software will prompt you if it does not recognize a name, but it will allow you to use an unrecognized name if you insist. In a recent football draft, we had a problem when both Travis Henry and Henry Travis were drafted. Please pay attention to what you're doing.
Our roster configuration will be as follows: PG, SG, G, G PF, SF, F, F C, C Util, Util 3 bench 2 DL
You do not need to draft a completely valid roster. You may draft a player who is not currently listed in Yahoo if you wish to reserve that player. After the draft is completed, you may no longer protect any unlisted player, but must simply wait until the player is made available at Yahoo.
Following the draft, all undrafted players will be placed on waivers, and waiver priorities will start out in inverse draft order.
This league will have a limit of 84 games per position. Since there are 2 slots for each of G, F, C, and U, those position slots will be subject to a combined limit of 168 games.
Please refrain from mentioning any undrafted player in this thread. You can this thread to alert others about your availability, to request volunteers to accept a queue, to raise questions about draft rules or mechanics, to solicit trade offers or announce trades, etc.
After two rounds have been completed, I will start a separate thread for draft rationales. We will then try to keep the rationale thread on a 2 round delay.
For drafting purposes, we will not distinguish between PG/SG or PF/SF. A simple G or F will be used. We'll deal with the position distinctions once we get to the Yahoo site.
The draft software allows you to designate any other league manager(s) to make a pick on your behalf. If you submit a queue, it will go to your designated manager(s) via email. If you wish to have someone outside the league make picks on your behalf, you will need to provide that person with your id and password.
Have I forgotten anything?

Woah, RSF, now that was a FAST pick! I guess there was no question Boykins was the guy you wanted?

Just a heads up - Doug sent me a short queue, but it has already been emptied. He won't be back until "tonight", and since he's left coaster, that's late.
It looks like we'll finish up either tomorrow or Tuesday. Once the draft is completed, I'll finish entering all picks at Yahoo, and give everyone a day to review. After that, the league will be activated, with all undrafted players on waivers for 2 days. Waiver priorities will be the inverse of the draft order.

Hey guys, I'm back and have picked, sorry for the holdup. I think this has been the toughest draft I have ever been in... the quickest way to make a player disappear is to put him in my queue! Sheesh! So I keep going back to the drawing board... but I am not super-excited about my squad at this point, as there aren't any guys who I thought were really a "steal" where I drafted them... :-|
Therefore, I shall likely be looking to make some deals in the next couple weeks!

Dang, if Boykins can produce 3/4 of what he tossed in tonight's preseason game (18 points, 9 dimes, 1 trey, 1 steal and 1 block...A BLOCK from a midget!) I'll be immensely pleased.

Coldwater draining the time limit in impressive fashion. Could we have our first skip? You can cut the pressure with a knife! ;)

Interesting, with Coldwater having the next pick also, giving him another 8 hours, will he able to make both picks in that time frame?

I would think he would. This could be an ingenius move on his part.

I think once your pick is skipped, all subsequent picks are skipped as well (ie, there is no additional 8 hours). This came up in the initial discussion when someone asked that they be given 4 hours for their second pick (or a total of 12 hours)... implying that ordinarily both picks would be skipped after the initial 8. I don't see the need to race ahead at this point however, even if his clock expires we can give Coldwater some extra time IMHO.

I'm not sure what the software will do if he times out. We may find out shortly after 2pm ET.
If it immediately rolls over to Doug, then it's up to Doug as to how quickly he picks. Clearly, we have no long-term time pressure. I'd suggest that Doug wait at least an extra 2 hours.
If it simply rolls to Coldwater's next pick, then I will give him at least an extra 2 hours (since I previously made the same agreement with hoopsklyce, who is at the other end of the draft) After that, I'll manually force the clock ahead, which then leaves it in Doug's hands again.

And with the last pick of the 2004/2005 RIHC draft, Hoopklyce selects....Willie Green!! We looked at him really long this morning.

Yup, I was amazed Willie Green kept dropping, especially with all the apparent Phillie lovers around here. I decided to take Houston and planned to shift him to IL at the start of the season (as per reports) and then hopefully pull Green off of waivers. Oh well, nice draft, gentlemen, and good luck!

OK, Gentlemen, here is the drill:
1. Please review the list of drafted players at Yahoo. Report any discrepancies.
2. Please post your final rationales. It will be difficult to keep that thread in sequence, so if your rationale is not the next one due, just post it/them here ASAP.
3. I will open a new thread for each of you to provide your reactions to the draft. You are not required to comment in that thread, but I suspect most of you will have some interesting observations.
4. At approximately noon ET tomorrow (Wednesday), I will activate the league. All free agents will be on waivers for 2 days. Waiver priorities will be in reverse draft order. You may submit waiver claims until Friday noon, after which waivers will clear and free agent adds/drops will be open for business.

All rationales are complete now, except for Coldwater Coyotes, who still owes them for rounds 10-15. Thanks to all for your diligence!
I have not gotten any feedback regarding errors in coding the draft picks at Yahoo. You have until noon today to review your roster. At that time, I'll activate the league, as planned.

with 4 picks to go I had hoped for Haywood or Green - kind of glad I did not have to decide.
Of course after the pick it is announced Green is not the opening night starter - so I was not LMSO
