0 Subject: RIHC AAA League #1 (Western Division)

- Leader [451044109] Wed, Oct 03, 2007, 13:19

Welcome everyone to the RIHC AAA League #1 (from here on out we'll call it the Western Division).

Our draft will begin within 2 days of the conclusion of picking our draft positions. Opening night is October 30th so we shouldn't waste too much time getting the draft going.

Here are the roster positions and league settings (direct from the RIHC rules).

Roster Positions (12/3/2): PG, SG, G, G, PF, SF, F, F, C, C, Util, Util, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL
Stat Categories (8): FG%, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK
Max games per position: 84
Roster moves: Daily

I figured it would be good to recap the rules regarding the injury slots:
Three bench slots are available to hold any player. Two additional bench slots will be enabled, but are restricted as “injury slots”, hereafter abbreviated as “IS”.

An NBA player shall be eligible to fill an IS if he is listed in any “informed” source as being injured more seriously than “day-to-day”. Examples of acceptable information sources include (but are not limited to):
RotoWire
RotoWorld
RotoTimes
ESPN
NBA.com
Newspaper stories (citing facts, not speculation).

Once a player appears in an NBA game, he is no longer eligible to fill an IS, even if a published source fails to remove his listing. When a player is no longer IS eligible, the team shall have a limited amount of time to remove that player from the IS, as defined below.

If a manager wishes to move a player into an IS but cannot find a confirming source, he may request that the Commissioner approve the designation. The Commissioner shall use his best judgment in making such a determination.

If any manager believes that another team has improperly moved a player into an IS, he may file a protest with the Commissioner. If any manager disagrees with a Commissioner ruling, he may request a league vote. Six votes shall be required to overturn any Commissioner ruling related to an IS.

Each Wednesday, the Commissioner shall review all rosters to assure that any filled injury slots are appropriate. In the event that an IS is improperly filled, the Commissioner will notify the manager of the violation via the email link at the Yahoo site. The notified manager will have 48 hours to correct the roster or to provide a satisfactory explanation. If a breach remains uncorrected 48 hours after notice, the Commissioner shall have the authority to drop a bench player in order to bring the roster into conformance. The player dropped will be based upon the Commissioner’s judgment as to the best interests of the impacted team.

The Commissioner shall have the latitude to extend the time for curing a breach if he knows that the manager is unreachable and/or unavailable to make the adjustment.

No player which is in an IS slot may be placed in a starting slot on any day unless the bench has been cleared of that injury slot, or unless another player is eligible to replace that player in the vacated IS. In the event of a violation, the Commissioner may elect to void any stats generated by improperly activated player.

As before, no player may be picked up as a free agent and immediately placed in an IS. Free agent additions are only IS eligible 10 days after pickup, unless the player has appeared in an NBA game after the pickup and the IS eligibility occurred thereafter.

Wow, this is the 3rd AAA league in a row (Baseball, Football) where I've had the first pick. 1 in 1728 chance is it?

I'll pick first.

I'll be out of town with limited internet access between Oct. 13th and Oct. 20th. If anyone is willing to make picks for me during that time I'd be happy to email lists of players for my next pick whenever I do get internet access.

As I've told Farn, this week Tues. through Thurs. my internet access might be a little spotty, but I think I can stay caught up. If we don't wrap by Oct. 25th, I could have some more issues, but will make things work one way or another.

Hopefully we'll be OK once we get going.

I'm fine with that, but can i request we have a daily draft pause from 10pm - 8am EST? That's the way RIHC usually goes. You can still make selections during that time, but the clock is stopped.

There could be circumstances where our pick could come and go whilst we're asleep, due to 5 hour difference with EST.

Here we will compile a list of draft availability. When your current status changes, just copy and paste the chart to keep people updated. (We don't need to know you will be unavailable for 1hr because of your Survivor addiction.)

I have also just noticed TD is unavailable until Tuesday. That shouldn't affect us starting Monday because he's way down the list.

Draft Availability

1. DaBomb
2. holt
3. Swish City - 5hr time zone difference from US Eastern Time Zone
4. tothreeball
5. Valkyrie
6. Addicted
7. Jack Hammers
8. Florian - out of town 13th-20th
9. blackjackis21 - spotty access from Tues-Thurs. could have problems after the 25th

I'll be gone tomorrow from 10am eastern until about 1am. I was happy to see it got back around tonight so I could make my second round pick. I'll leave enough of a Q for a third round pick tomorrow if it comes back quickly.

If its only a matter of an hour or two (10 or 11pm) I'd like to look at it. But I imagine at our current rate its more likely to be mid day so go ahead and use the Q. I definitely want to look at the 4th round if its possible, (Farn and Addicted are the DP's) Thanks

wow - already halfway through rd 2. I may be away from comp til around 2-3 pm central today. i'd really like a chance to look over my upcoming picks, but I'll leave a queue in case the draft moves very quickly.

I'm only going to leave farn as DP, cuz I'm pretty sure he will read this. if my pick comes up and it's like 1-2 pm central, I'd really appreciate it if I could get a chance to make the pick myself.

i'll leave a long enough queue for rd 2 and 3, but it's kind of makeshift so I'm afraid of the way it might work out.

But.....

I took Caron Butler with the last pick in round 3. Let's keep the draft going here if possible. Just post your pick here in bold with position if possible and I'll add them in when we get reactivated.

Sorry Swish, hope this falls under the great minds think alike catagory. Farn, regarding the queue issue, when would you make the pick. I'm not sure what has happened with the Kafenated system, but my usual email reminder for the last 2 picks has gone to my alternate address, including the last one 4 hours after valkyrie's selection in front of me. I'm usually available, especially with the email notice, but I'd prefer not to have the queue used unless otherwise stated. For example, I'll be unavailable tonight from about 6pm - 10pm est. If my 5th round pick comes back to me within that timeframe, I'll be able to make the pick around 10, prefer not to use the queue.

Once DaBomb picks, then holt, we are probably dead for a few hours. I believe Swish and Edgar are in Europe so they are probably sleeping.

If our 5th rounder had come back to us by 12pm GMT, we would have been able to pick, and then you guys could have continued to blast on for a while whilst we were asleep. Earlier, i was ready and poised to pick in the 4th round, but had to wait 4 hours for that pick to come around.

I'm 5 hours of EST and Edgar is actually 6 hours ahead. By the time you factor in another 3 hours for PST, that can be up to a 9 hour differential.

I apologise if we are inconveniencing everyone, but that's the way it is. We're pretty much always always able to pick straight away as long as one of us is awake.

Drafting is stressful, huh? :)

Swish, you aren't an issue at all. My only complaints are when people take 6hrs in the middle of the day, leaving no queue and no explanation as to when they would be back.

But you sleeping is not an issue.

Guys, I was a 4 hour delay yesterday, my apologies. I left my office at 10:30 for what should have been a 2 hour meeting that turned to 4 hours. I had been around for hours earlier hoping to make my 4th round pick. Upon my return, I saw the pick ahead of me was made at 10:34. Just bad luck. I'll try to use the queue if I'm on deck or close.

I would like to think we could do 2 rounds a day. I'd support a later draft pause at night if it is not a problem for others.

Hopefully it'll pick up, cause we need to go thru more than a round a day.
Farn,
Is it possible to reduce the clock in the later rounds? Say after the 9th round?
I understand the need for 6 hours, especially with the Euros. But if you're in a draft, you can at least check in here, or at Kafenatid every 2 hours or so. Plus you get an email reminder when your up.

--Addicted--

BTW - Swish, I was looking at AK47 also.
I had a decent queue as of yesterday evening,
now I have to work on it again, after I make my next pick (whenever that comes along).

I'd like to do two rounds per day, but I think that's an unrealistic goal. If you leave out the 8 hour draft pause there are only 16 hours remaining in a day. On average the picks are going to take at least 1-2 hours because inevitably someone will get delayed and take 3-4 hours before making a pick.

If we are managing to get through one round/day we should be done on October 22nd or 23rd, which would leave us with a full week before the season starts.

Yeah Addicted, the turn totally wiped out our queue as well. I think we would have picked Aldridge if he didn't get snapped up. But Deng, Okur, Kev Martin, and Mike Miller were all right at the top of our 4th and 5th round queues before they got snaffled.

I think AK47 is a pretty good pick if his numbers fall somewhere between his last 2 years worth of stats.

my queue has taken a recent beating too. Fortunately I had it set up 30 guys deep so at least I still have some guys in there.

I will probably reduce the pause and clock later in the draft. But nothing is in stone yet.

I'll be leaving for vacation tomorrow morning. I hope to be at the resort by late tomorrow evening and hopefully will be able to find some internet access. I've left a queue, but hope it won't be used since it is poorly researched due to a lack of time. If my time is about to expire I've asked Farn to please make a pick. Otherwise please do not make any picks for my team. If the draft continues at the rate it has so far this week my next pick probably won't be up until Sunday as it is currently 15 picks away. I apologize in advance if I cause any significant drafting delays.

Hey Florian, nice 6th rounder with Parker. With JackHammer not back til midnight as per his earlier post, my 6th round selection won't likely come until early AM eastern. I'll be around for a while just in case things move quicker for round 6. I'll see where the picks are, I am available all Sat morning. I'll be out tomorrow afternoon for 5 hours or so. If its a round 6 pick, I'll leave a queue, I'll have to see where we are in the morning regarding round 7.

I find it pretty funny that as of right now, the other AAA league, which started their draft a few days after us, has caught ours. Yet it was their league that was in an all out "slugfest" over the timeliness of picks.

It must be since we are the "Western Division", that we are all laid back and casual, while their "Eastern Division" is all hustle and bustle. And I say that born and raised in NYC. I could get used to this "west coast" pace of living :-)

And I'm being sincere here, not a wise ass. I'm glad we have not had any of the various name-calling that was going on in the other thread, when finishing with time to spare has never really been a concern (for either league).

Our draft has been consistent in its timing, and as Farn pointed out, will finish well in advance of the season start. The absence of bickering has been appreciated at this end. Looking forward to a great season, and to Swish and Edgar not drafting players I am hoping to get in front of me as they did with AK47.

Da Bomb is up, I'm good for a while, but suspect our Euro friends are done for the evening so I'll likely try and keep things moving and draft early AM for my round 11 pick.

I see that either TD or someone else has picked for TD. I am a DP for him as well, but I didn't pick for him right away, considering that I had just taken J-Will before him. Felt a little odd is all, since I had just read the J-Will has been named the starter. So I wanted to see if he might pop in.

Farn,
Normally JackHammers doesn't get in until late.
I'm leaving his queue as is, so If you want to keep things moving, it's up to you.

Also I'm getting ready for a road trip. But I should be at the hotel around 6pm.
I'm leaving a queue just in case. And leaving you as DP.
If I don't check in here before the clock runs out here's what to do:
Round 14 - Please take any of the first player who is a center or a forward. Should be one of the first 3 players on my queue (the center is my preference).
If by chance the top 3 are gone, then take the next person on the queue.
Round 15 - Whoever's at the top of the queue.

I'm hoping to be able to check in, but I don't want to hold up the draft.

All rosters have been entered. Please doublecheck to make sure there are no errors. If your roster is incorrect please post here immediately and do not attempt to add a player on your own. I don't want to mess up the waiver wire.

Let the trading begin.

Oh, and everyone currently has 2 empty bench spots. Those spots have to remain empty until the season starts. Please review the IS rules before making any pickups.

Going to put Wade in an IS since he's out for now:

Dwyane Wade-G- Heat Oct. 12 - 11:25 am et

Dwyane Wade, who had offseason knee and shoulder surgeries, denied an ESPN report that he could be out until January.

''That's ridiculous,'' coach Pat Riley said. Wade said the most ''realistic'' timetable for a return ``is hopefully sometime in November, late November. At the worst case, early December.'' Even if he's back in early December he'll be limited to a 67-game season after missing the first 15 in November. We're still not convinced that Wade or the Heat know when he's going to be ready and no one seems to be accounting for the possible setbacks he could face throughout the season.

Not sure how the IS stuff works exactly. Can I pick up someone to fill in for Vince Carter? It's not clear how long he'll be gone. They keep using the term indefinitely. It could be 2-3 weeks, or maybe as short as a week. He's already missed 2 or 3 games.

According to the rules, I don't think you can automatically substitute Daniels into the IS slot valk.

As before, no player may be picked up as a free agent and immediately placed in an IS. Free agent additions are only IS eligible 10 days after pickup, unless the player has appeared in an NBA game after the pickup and the IS eligibility occurred thereafter.

Attention Valkyrie:

As DaBomb pointed out, you had to drop a player with Cassell returning. You picked up Daniels. I'm assuming you thought he could fill your IS slot. As the rules state you can't pick up a player and move him to the IS immediately.

So, you must drop Daniels. There is no way around it. You picked him up illegally so to speak and you need to drop him, even if he returns tonight.

Failure to do so by Sunday will result in the commish, myself, removing him from your roster. I would prefer to allow you to do it but I will do so if necessary.

Swish City: I'm somewhat surprised that my team has managed to stay close up to this point, and I'd still be very surprised if my team manages to finish ahead of yours. My team is pretty much maxed out on the number of points it can gain with the current roster and I'll likely lose a point or two in blocks and points scored in the near future. As long as your team doesn't go into a total freefall with multiple further injuries I just can't see you not winning.

This is going to be so close. There are so many fluctuating categories every day that it's impossible to predict a winner.

Regardless of what happens, it's been a remarkable fightback from Florian minus Yao and Wallace for most of his run in. It reminds me of when we took Mike D to the last day on RIHC from a huge deficit at midseason.

And there is still a big battle going on for 3rd too. That slot slot might get someone in to RIHC as well.

Thanks, Uptown Bombers. I enjoyed my day back in first.

Swish: If I still had Wade, Yao and Wallace it would have been a much easier battle for me, but I might not have picked up the amazing Rasho Nesterovic. Without those three I was just hoping not to fall too far down the standings. I'm been very happy with the rest of my team's performance since then. It's going to be a interesting battle the rest of the way.

Speaking of Wallace the injury report from Rotoworld states: Gerald Wallace sat out the Bobcats' game on Saturday because of a groin injury that forced him out on Friday. There is no official word on how long he will be out. The prevailing sentiment is that Wallace is done for the season, as the Bobcats have zero motivation to bring him back early.

Unless someone objects I'll place him in an IS (to replace Mobley who will be coming out of one).

It's going to the wire, Florian. And no doubt we both have lots of random DNPs and reduced minutes to deal with over the last 2 weeks. But that's what makes it exciting (if a little random) if it's close heading in to the last week.

Maggette is confirmed out for Tuesday, so we've picked up Posey. No objection on the Wallace front, Florian.

It's sort of funny that at the end of the year it will probably come down to random DNPs and the performance of some scrubs in games that have no relevance to anyone but fantasy basketball players. The main consolation is that at least the top two teams will advance back to the RIHC for next year (I hope).

I'm protesting the move of putting Maggette on IS. He is day to day. The IS rules are pretty clear that it needs to be more serious than day to day. Maggette missed one game and hopes to play Thursday. I'm sure most of us wouldn't mind having an extra hand or two to get through these last few games but rules are rules.

I thought Swish's placement of Maggette in an IS was appropriate. The most recent update on Maggette (from Rotoworld) prior to Swish's placement of him in an IS was:

Corey Maggette-G/F - Clippers Apr. 7 - 11:00 pm et

Corey Maggette (strained right hamstring) has been ruled out of Tuesday's game against Denver.
He left Sunday's game after just six minutes and didn't return. There's no word on when he could play again, and it wouldn't be shocking to see Maggette shut it down. His absence could mean more time for Al Thornton, who came off the bench last night.
Source: Orange County Register

Based on that report Maggette was more than day-to-day. He was ruled out for the next game and there was no timetable for him to return.

The next report on Maggette upgraded his status to day-to-day:

Corey Maggette-G/F - Clippers Apr. 9 - 12:09 pm et

Corey Maggette sat out on Tuesday with a strained hamstring, but he was hopeful that he might practice on Wednesday and be able to play in the Clippers final home game.
Asked if he thought Maggette was finished, coach Mike Dunleavy replied, "I don't think so, it didn't seem like he said it was bad, but I don't know." He's not worth gambling on in the absence of a positive update, but at least this gives hope to owners still hanging on to him.
Source: Los Angeles Daily News

If Swish had waited for this report his placement in an IS would have been inappropriate and I can see why Holt protested, but I still feel Swish made the appropriate move based on the information he had at the time.

I would have posted earlier, but the rotoguru server was down when I checked it on Thursday and I was swamped at work yesterday and didn't check this board.

Sounds like the finish in the West is pretty similar to the East: A flurry of activity and movement, mild controversy over IS use, and some very close races at the top down the stretch. Currently we have four teams within 2 points of each other in positions 2 through 5, with standings changing nightly. A manager who was accused of abandoning his team mid-season (but did not) is currently in 6th, while a team who definitely did is currently in 8th and is soundly beating 3 active managers. Our other AWOL manager is dead last, but only by a point.

Looks like there will be some familiar quality entries in RIHC next year.

it's going to be tough florian. there are so few points to be had at this point. I've felt like I've been on the verge of making a move up for months now but my place in the standings has been almost frozen all season long.

for the record (not that it's a big deal), the report I saw said Magette was day to day and could possibly play (last)thursday. That's why i protested.

Only 0.5 points in it now. What a tight finish!

And the gap remains 0.5 points heading into the final day. What a battle!

Looks like this thing is going to be decided by random DNPs and reduced minutes on the final day - nice!

EuroGollum just holds on, despite the DNPs of Posey and LeBron.

Kudos to Florian on a gutsy effort whilst missing his top 3 picks for much of the 2nd half. It was quite a battle!

And well done to everyone else in the league - it was a blast!

Swish: Congratulations on pulling out the victory! Hopefully we can battle it out in the RIHC again next year.

Holt: Nice job. I was worried you might catch me the last few days.

Thanks to everyone else. It was a great league.

Congrats guys - great battle at the top. Sorry I had such a lousy season and couldn't do battle. Good luck next year in the big leagues!

Florian - Already can't wait!

I didn't think Bogut would get the minutes he did - bad call. Sorry Flo.

blackjackis21 - Don't worry about it! I played several players which hurt rather than helped my team yesterday by killing my FG% without helping me in other categories. The last day of the year is always a game of chance. In any case Swish beat me by 1.5 points, so that one point in rebounding didn't change the outcome.

Great season Euros. I think I need to give up on RIHC. No matter what I try I can't seem to have a top season.

florian, with all those injuries I thought for sure I'd pass you at some point but it just didn't happen. dunno how you did it, but you did it.

gl in rihc next season. maybe by some stroke of luck my finish will get me invited too. if I remember correctly, I finished 3rd place last season as well. :/

Congrats to Swish on a well played season.
Also congratulations to Florian as well for qualifying for the big leagues and making it close in the stretch run.
