0 Subject: KERIK Homeland Security nominee is this Real?

Could you write a better script???

3 wives, one was omitted in his autobiography.

2 mistresses at the same time. 1 lasted a decade.

Regan his mistress edited the book that omitted one wife.

Illegal alien as housekeeper who he didn’t pay taxes on. (Nice considering the benign attitude Bush has taken toward illegal aliens.

Made 6 million dollars working for a company that sold tasers to the NYPD who he used to be commissioner : As for Mr. Kerik, who formed a Giuliani-Kerik L.L.C. subsidiary within the company, and his business ties, he’s come under fire for joining the board of Taser International. The safety of the company’s electrical guns, which have been heavily promoted since 9/11, are now the subject of an investigation by the Justice Department in the wake of a report that 76 people in the U.S. and Canada had died since 2001 after getting jolted by the guns. A few weeks ago, perhaps in anticipation of his appointment to the Department of Homeland Security, Mr. Kerik sold his shares for $5.8 million.

This is a nice touch… An apartment near the World Trade Center site that former Police Commissioner Bernard B. Kerik used to engage in an extramarital affair with publisher Judith Regan, was originally donated for the use of weary police and rescue workers who were helping after 9-11! One bedroom faced the pit of ground zero (Nice Bernie)... Regan would visit it while Kerik was police commissioner, meaning between Sept. 11 and Dec. 31, 2001.

Conspiracy alert…was this all orchestrated by Bush to discredit Giulianni (who recommended Kerik) to help Bush’s Brother Jeb in 2008. Giuliani was one of the front runners, three days ago…maybe not anymore.

The conspiracy theory is of course straight from my mind….8-]

Given the truly pathetic posturing McCain is doing concerning steroids and whatever else gets him on TV, my guess, he's already the frontrunner. Whatever differences he and Bush have, I'm sure Bush could've nipped that in the bud by playing down McCain's role in his campaign, had he wanted. Then again, I won't even pretend how to understand how (if?) his mind works.

Kerik's dirty laundry is comically stereotypical of corruption, right down to the illegal nanny.

The funny thing is remember seeing him on one of those town house discussions CNN was doing for decision '04, and he was the Bush representative. He had the platform down cold, he knew what to say, and more importantly what not to say. I was waiting for the kind of candid moment you might expect out of a new york cop, but I saw none of that. Any question that might have sparked a original response was rebuffed by a talking point. Hearing him speak then, I thought he sounded more like a politician than a cop. Turns out that's exactly the case.

Nice observation, I was thinking the same thing listening to McCain critisize Rumsfeld's handling of the war today...I kept thinking Oh, 2008, distance yourself from the ugly war and how it's being handled.

Who ya fooling John. My but the 2008 campaign is starting early.

In any case Giuliani has been mentioned as a leading candidate. This Kerik recomendation, the more it's painted as Giuliani's (And that's all I keep hearing) can't help.

NC - i had the exact same thought, which i posted on a different message board area where i hang out.

my theory is much broader though - it's going to be a systematic discrediting of any of the moderate republicans - not just the NYC crew...

I'm thinking it was more likely a result of friendly ties developed with Guiliani over 9/11 culminating in the convention endorsement.

FWIW we don't really know what the real reason Kerik withdrew as 'nanny problem' is a nice stock excuse like 'I need to spend more time with my family' has been. I don't think it's a given Bush knew Kerik had a confirmation problem.

perhaps Kerik had hopes his "nanny problem" would prevent the leakage of his "sanctity of marriage problems..."

oops, how about that? three marriages? severe infidelity? yep, homosexuals sure do wreck the sanctity of marriage. heterosexuals have NOTHING to do with that.

I agree, Baldwin. Above all, this president values loyalty, and Rudy's endorsement and stumping for Bush gave him a solid moderate standing among many who would otherwise have considered bolting.

Bush came into the White House a moderate Republican like Rudy G. I don't think he'd dump on Rudy at this point, particularly after Rudy helped him in the campaign (and remember, as mayor Rudy endorsed Cuomo for Governor over Pataki, so it's certainly not above the realm of possibility for Rudy to endorse a Democrat).

I always feel the need to point out that Pataki ran on the "I promise to only serve two terms" platform. Additionally, his personal expenses that he bills to the state (an issue he used to defeat Mario) has been higher every single year than Cuomos ever was.

By the way the conspiracy angle was sort of joke, nice to see so many around here buy into it you actually ran with it.

As far as the "nanny" problem being the reason he withdrew, while it might have been reason alone to derail the nominee, it now appears to be the least of the "problems" with Kerik's nomination to work for a "family values" pious President.

It's looking more and more that Kerik never had a nanny. But he did have a lot of skeletons.

You know how bands break up citing "artistic differences" when we all know the real reason is that the drummer is strung out on heroin, the singers lost is voice to too much whiskey, the guitar player has genital warts so touring isn't much fun any more and the bass player has figured out he can make more money writing movie scores?

I think that having a "nanny problem" has become the politcal term equivilant for "artistic differences"

NY Daily News
Bernard Kerik's legal nightmare is about to get worse, with federal prosecutors expected to file charges against the former police commissioner that will likely include allegations of bribery, tax fraud and obstruction of justice, the Daily News has learned.

The indictment, expected next month, could prove to be an embarrassing obstacle for Kerik's former mentor Rudy Giuliani, who is cruising at the top of the polls heading into the presidential primary gauntlet.

The bribery allegations against Kerik stem from a secret meeting at a bar in Tribeca, according to two sources familiar with the federal probe.

The indictment will have direct implications for Giuliani, the sources said.

For one, another Giuliani commissioner and a top inspector general during Giuliani's years as mayor will be called as witnesses to describe the secret meeting in Tribeca.

The Giuliani officials are Raymond Casey, former head of the Trade Waste Commission, a city agency set up to keep the mob out of the carting industry, and Michael Caruso, former inspector general with the city Department of Investigation.

In July 1999, Casey and Caruso met with Kerik, then the city Correction Department commissioner, at Walker's bar on North Moore St., court papers reveal.

At the time, Casey was investigating Interstate Industrial Corp., a company that employed Kerik's brother Donald and the best man at Kerik's wedding, Larry Ray.

An Interstate affiliate had applied to operate a waste transfer station in Staten Island, and Casey was looking into allegations that the firm had ties to the Gambino crime family.

During the meeting, both Interstate and Ray were discussed, according to an affidavit filed in a civil suit by Caruso's lawyer, Mark Freyberg.

Kerik has admitted that at the time Interstate was secretly paying to renovate his Bronx apartment. Prosecutors are now expected to allege that the free renovations amounted to Kerik accepting bribes, the sources said.

In return for the renovations, the feds will allege, Kerik used his city position to try to influence the city's probe of Interstate, the sources said.

During the Walker's meeting, Kerik allegedly told Casey that he did not see the allegations concerning Interstate's ties to the mob as credible, according to a source familiar with the case.

Kerik noted that his brother worked for the company, and said, "If I thought Interstate was mobbed up, do you think I'd let my brother work there?" according to the source.

Kerik also urged Casey to complete his probe and either reject or accept the application - but either way, to do it expeditiously, the source said. Years later, the agency recommended denying Interstate the license.

Kerik's lawyer Kenneth Breen did not return a call seeking comment. Casey's lawyer and Perry Carbone, the prosecutor handling the case for Manhattan U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia, also did not return calls.

Last year, Kerik pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges brought by the Bronx district attorney in connection with receiving payments totaling $165,000 from Interstate, but he was not charged with bribery.

The expected obstruction of justice charges from the feds are related to Kerik's statements to Bronx prosecutors, the sources said.

The expected federal tax fraud charges are linked to Kerik's failure to pay taxes on the income he received from Interstate, the sources added.

Giuliani has extensive ties to Kerik, promoting him to correction commissioner, then to police commissioner. Giuliani later also hired him at his firm, Giuliani Partners, and recommended him to President Bush for the job of Homeland Security secretary.

The relationship soured in December 2004 when Kerik withdrew from consideration for the Homeland Security job and a torrent of accusations of wrongdoing poured forth.

Giuliani has since admitted he had erred in pushing Kerik for the Homeland Security job.

"It was a mistake," Giuliani told CNN's Larry King in February. "I think the answer is I made a mistake and I took responsibility for it."
How can anyone who is critical of the Clintons' affiliation with corrupt figures ever stand by Rudy Giuliani?

More in the Daily News Today
Shortly before Bernard Kerik was appointed police commissioner by then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani, one of his top aides was made aware that Kerik had defended a contractor being investigated by the city for mob ties, the Daily News has learned.

Kerik's defense of Interstate Industrial Corp. during a meeting with two Giuliani officials at a bar in Tribeca in July 1999 is now at the center of a federal probe.

In the spring of 2000, a few months after Kerik, then the city Correction Department commissioner, met at Walker's bar with the Giuliani officials, he was asked to turn over notes about the sitdown to the commissioner of the city Department of Investigation, the sources said.

At the time, the DOI commissioner, Edward Kuriansky, met regularly with Giuliani. Kuriansky, who died last year, was then in charge of cracking down on public corruption. He eventually cleared Kerik of wrongdoing.

Giuliani has said he was not warned of Kerik's ties to Interstate when he appointed Kerik police commissioner on Aug. 19, 2000.

Kerik has since admitted that at the time of the bar sitdown Interstate was secretly paying to renovate his Bronx apartment.

Sullivan:
From (Almost) Head Of Homeland Security ...
to an extra on The Real Housewives of New Jersey.

NYT:That burly man training an attack dog in the yard of one of the show’s housewives was none other than Bernard B. Kerik, the disgraced former New York City police commissioner and former nominee for secretary of homeland security.

Mr. Kerik will not be a named character on the show, avoiding the path to reality television well worn by former, and lesser, celebrities. But he will appear briefly in a coming episode training the Manzo family dog, which is related to Mr. Kerik’s own dog, according to a Bravo spokeswoman.

It just so happens that Mr. Kerik lives in the same town, Franklin Lakes, N.J., as the Manzos and has been friendly for some years with Ms. Manzo’s husband, Albert Manzo.

Mr. Kerik is scheduled to face trial in October. Prosecutors contend, among other charges, that as the city’s correction commissioner Mr. Kerik sought to help a city contractor in exchange for extensive renovations to his Bronx apartment.

His epic fall after being nominated by President George W. Bush to head Homeland Security is not new to entertainment television. It received a fictionalized treatment on “Law & Order” and provided fodder for weeks of late-night television monologues.

Mr. Kerik’s security consulting business, which had been based mostly on overseas clients, has suffered because he cannot leave the area as a condition of his release before trial. But he has not worked training security dogs, his lawyer said.
