- [37950216] Thu, Oct 02, 2008, 18:33 The old music thread was absorbed by guru's clean up so why not a fresh start.
I ran across these vids the other day and thought they were worth a view, particularly on a political forum.
The very important band Laibach.
Like the music or not the political insight and political theatre transcends ordinary music.
How can you not throw respect toward a band that was banned from playing in their own country with the threat of arrest (or worse) for 10 years?
They released in 2006 a record called Volk, a study of national anthems of a number of countries.
It is hard to over emphasize the importance of this art/political movement. They will be studied 100 years from now...as they document the tectonic shift we are moving through.
Here's a few of the vids.
I am having a hard time getting through censorship filters on the roto web site, I don't know where it's coming from, probably here (UAE), I get this message (You don't have permission to access /cgi-bin/view.pl on this server.)
So I am using a proxy software which doesn't let me use the Click here to create and insert a link option so please copy and paste in separate browser...it's worth it.
O, the land of the free And the home of the brave, Are your stars still so bright, Does your banner still wave?
O, the land of the free And the home of the brave, Are you heaven on Earth Or the gloom of the grave?
You, the people of the United States, Did you form a perfect union, Establish justice, Insure tranquility, Secure the blessings of liberty To yourselves and your posterity?
How blind can you get For your country - right or wrong, America - the melting pot!
Praise the lord And praise the Holy Spirit To save us from your freedom, Justice, peace, accordance and illusion, From arrogance and pride, From violence and confusion
Your great despair And great depression, Satanic verses of your superstition, The land of plenty
Your Bill of Rights, the enterprise, The free will and the unbroken one, Your self-esteem and self-desire, Your trust in God and the religious fire.
America - The end of history, The end of time, The end of family, The end of crime. *******************************
Watching our economic collapse and it's effect on the world...seems apropos

Not sure which direction nerve wanted to take this thread, but I just wanted to pop in that I've been really jamming with Third Day these days.
A Christian band that, as far as I can tell, never sold out to the GOP:

the answers the question i've been pondering for over a decade now...What IF Rick Astley had been the lead singer of Nirvana...
You can be in your jeans and a t-shirt, with a cup of coffee or soda nearby. ,

nerve, you know anything about Technoboy and Tuneboy (TNT) by any chance? Looks like they sampled some poetry of a client of mine (previously unrecorded) and presented it in a way which the poet doesn't like. Just wondering if you have ever heard of them.

#3 - Holly shiznet. That completely ruined that song for me.
That marvelous Astley tune that is.
You shall pay for that blasphemy.

I'm enjoying the new Weezer album -- 6-7 really good tunes I like already. And if you can get the Weezer logo Snuggie you get a free copy of the CD! Weezer - Snuggie offer

RE 12: I know it's nearly a year old, but are you still enjoying Raditude? The first month I listened to it I thought it was catchy and fun, but I just relistened to it and it makes me long for the days when Rivers wrote quality songs like the Blue Album, Pinkerton and Malendroit. The only song I'd put any where near a list of top 10 Weezer songs would be "(If You're Wondering If I Want You to) I Want You to" (Only because it's chorus is so damn catchy) and I think the rest of the album would round out my bottom 10.

I would agree Kyle, only a couple have held up. Another new album again in a month or so, so keep an eye out.
looking for a good new rock band to get into? give these guys a shot. they have hit just about every festival this year, and are making quite a name for themselves as a crowd favorite at each.

I believe Butler has been known to play a 12 string guitar with 11 strings.
BTW, if you aren't already checking out new music via Pandora you are really missing stuff.

If you search youtube, John Butler "Ocean" Rothbury....there is a live outdoor performance where he plays a 10m38s version of Ocean. (Full version??)
The man is insanely talented. Watching, listening...awestruck, would best describe what I felt.
In the UK alone more then 3,000,000 records sold in about 6 months.
#1 in 17 countries
The Official Charts Company announced that Adele is the first living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously since The Beatles in 1964.

Fun thing to go back and watch on the Adele "Rolling In The Deep" Videos. If you look at the very first ones, the ones that came out before the record was released, (Like the one linked above) she is so emotional when she sings. She's still crushed by this ex boyfriend and isn't over the loss of the relationship. She's emotional and you feel the pain in every lyric.
Cut forward a few months, she is blowing up the charts, she's #1 in every country, she is a multi millionaire, she is adored with critical acclaim. All of a sudden you don't see the same pain when she preforms the song, (MTV music awards) still great voice, powerful voice, but the edge is gone from the pain. I mean she is waving to people in the audience and in earlier vids she was too wrapped up emotionally to even see straight.
This is one of the good ones. A pop artist who genuinely deserves the success. This track will go down as an all time classic IMHO and will stand the test of time. Predicting obvious Grammy awards by the bucket and I doubt anyone else will come close.

Sarge I noticed in the Butler vid, (Very cool by the way) that e has long finger nails and uses them like Picks to play the strings. What happens if he breaks one? 8-)

I noted that too. Wondered if maybe they are fake? Seemed to me, he uses ea finger to pick independently from the others. Prolly one hall of a pianist too, with that kind of manual dexterity.

Re: Adele, I really question how easy it is to get rich quick in that industry. A lot of astronomical promotional expenses and bad contracts.
Encouraging to see someone without classic beauty and perfect figure having great success.

Adele, I really question how easy it is to get rich quick in that industry.
Well she had her first record 2 years ago, "19" and it won Grammy's. Tree can probably fill us in but the promotional fees etc are usually tied to the cd's sold, so yes, often these artists don't get rich on the cd sales themselves but the concerts are where they clean up as that is independent of the record deal.
According to the Evening Standard. UK. 5 May 2011, As of May 2011 the singer was worth £6 million, (Almost 10 million US dollars) tying her with Lily Allen and Duffy for 9th place on the list of the richest British and Irish music stars under age 30.[22]
She is 21.
I think the key is she is truly a special talent. I just hope she stops chain smoking cigarettes for the sake not only of health but her voice.
As far as her weight goes yes true, but I hear that voice and see that passionate face and I am in love with her, could care a less about her weight issues.

She actually won best new artist Grammy in 2009 so she had considerable success 3 years ago.
