0 Subject: OT..Anyone here in the Moncks Corner, SC area?

OK, moved from Killeen to Marinette, WI last Nov. G/F had a job offer in a 35-40 car/m store doing F&I. Should have paid around 5k/m which would allow us to cash flow and I could start my own Indie Rep biz which would take about a yr to generate sufficient revenue stream to become "self sufficient". Problem, this dealership isn't doing close to the 35/m we were told. It *IS* doing, 15/m, which translates to about 2k/m. Doesn't cash flow at all, let alone with me spending 1k/m+ on gasoline and another 500-800/m in hotels.

She just got offered the GM (General Manager) slot for a smallish motorcycle dealership in Moncks Corner, SC. Again, should put us in the 6k/m area and cash flow everything. I need a heads up on housing. I'm heading down that way next week Mon probably, to find an address for us to drive a U-Haul to so we can unload it. Is anyone nearby, can give me/us a hand with the housing search?

Sorry, Sarge.

I used to live in the neighborhood a long time ago. Still have some friends down there, if you need a surveyor, lawyer, wholesale wine distro or commercial/res. RE specialist.

SC is getting hammered right now. I think they are already double-digit unemployment and rising.

Good luck with the move, and I hope this economy picks up soon for your sake as well as the rest of us!

Heading out in the morning on the ZRX. Should hit Moncks Corner either Sunday night or Monday morning. Take the bike, and I get to ride 3k miles in a week and don't have to rent a car down there to find a place to move into.

I lived in Charleston for 6 years, Moncks Corner is about 40 minutes north west, halfway between Hilton Head and Myrtle. I can tell you plenty about Charleston. If I moved back down that way I would probably pick Mount Pleasant, the suburb just north of Charleston. Its a good little town, thats quiet in some respects but has plenty going on with shopping and sports and the battleships and golf etc.

If you lived and commuted from there it would be 30-40 minute commute.

Good luck! Tough ride if you ran into the weather we've had in the southeast the past few days. Tornadoes in Atlanta area Fri night, then heavy rains again last night and this morning.
Grew up in Columbia and know Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head well, but never stopped off in MC.

Left WI last Sat morning on the ZRX1200. Only managed to get as far as Indy on Saturday, as the winds coming off the Great Lakes out of Canada, brought the temps down into the low 40s or high 30s. BRUTAL cold riding at 50+ mph. 13 1/2 hours, only eeked out some 498 miles after stopping too frequently to dethaw.

Sunday I headed south to Louisville and then East toward Lexington. Went south vs takling 75 thru cincy and into Lexington, because I figured the faster I got further south, the warmer it would become. Been many years since I drove thru Kentucky and I quickly remembered why I enjoy it so much! KY drivers on the interstate, are NOT going to take 2 hours to cover ground they can cross in 1 1/2, just because of something trivial like a "Speed Limit". Louisville to Lexington posted at 70. Crossed it 85-90 the whole way and I passed about as many cars as I was passed by. It was sufficently warmer on Sundays ride vs Saturdays, that in 12 hours, I covered approx 650 miles, vs the shy of 500 in 13+ hrs the day before.

Hit my destination last Monday morning after stopping 100 miles shy Sunday night. Didnt know the area where I was going, and saw little sense in pressing on in the dark after 12 hours on the bike. Fatigue, is a killer on a motorcycle if you arent 'smart' enough to grant it due respect. I got rained on Mon/Tue, and finally found us a place on Fri, will sign the lease agreement tonight and arrange for utilities etc tomorrow. Occupy it on Sat the 25th.

Seems kitchens in these houses, were an afterthought. Saw many, which are smaller then the galley's included on smallish boats. Laundry facilities, were another apparent afterthought in too many cases; served by an attachment built onto the back of garages, where you haul your clothes outside and around the garge, to gain access to the W/D. Call me spoiled if you must, but I want indoor laundry facilities where the W/D are on the same floor as the bedrooms/closets. (I got that.) I also want a kitchen, with sufficient space so I don't have to go to the grocer twice/wk. (I didnt get that)

All told, things should hopefully settle down soon.

Looking for a great breakfast down there? right on Route 17 in Mount Pleasant Charleston Cafe (formerly Bookstore Cafe) as featured on Food Network.

A perfect day for me in that area... hit Charleston Cafe for breakfast, go to Patriots Point and see the USS Yorktown, take the boat ride to Fort Sumter -- get some of the world famous BBQ at Melvins BBQ. Then head over to Shem Creek which is a marina with some great restaurants, live music and a view of the harbor (Vickery's is my favorite).

lol Sounds awfully good to me too. Toured the YT when I was here with Desert Shield/Storm back in 1990-1991. Seems they had a WWII Dest and Sub there too which we toured.
