Subject: Catholic Church to stop social services in DC?

If DC approves same-sex couple benefits, the Church threatens to take their empathy for the poor and go home.
This is the Benedict Church, where sexual issues take precedence over even clear Biblical mandates.
I've got a sense of deja vu on this--wasn't it California (or Massachusetts) where they threatened to get out of the baby adoption business for the same reason? I'll have to check it out.
The other thing that occurs to me is that this ordinance, as I understand it, will apply to employees of companies. If the Church doesn't want to pay same-sex benefits, I would think they would just not hire them. |

Just curious if the boy toys at the catholic church are that hard core on the gays in their own midst. Seems like catholics being hard on gays (get it? Hard on gays) would be the pot calling the kettle black.
If catholics ever read the Bible they would know to remove the log in their eye before the spec in somebody elses.

Holt, with your interest in finding out if someone is underage, you must be a catholic.

Stupid way to say it, but in the end it is the pot calling the kettle black when it comes down to things. I realize that people will just say "It was a couple of bad apples". But it wasn't just a couple, and the catholic church thought they could get away with it for Millions of dollars.

It is wrong for the Catholic church to coerce D.C. in this way, but it may have benefits. D.C. can become a microcosm of what the U.S. would become with rampant Liberalism. Christianity has long been the foil for the Libs and this can show what happens if their goal is reach and it no longer exists.

Liberals would go through the typical talking point checklist of blame before ever admitting fault and the general populace too dumb and too reliant on big government would still vote for the liberals.
For proof of how liberals hang onto their havens long after they've made them hell holes I refer you to Chicago, one of the many homes of Barack Hussein Obama.

Yay, I won a dollar!
(I bet my house that his next post would be a non-responsive rant against liberals. I think I got great odds.)
Also,
An Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie (AFDB) is a type of headwear that can shield your brain from most electromagnetic psychotronic mind control carriers... Not only do they protect against incoming signals, but they also block most forms of brain scanning and mind reading, keeping the secrets in your head truly secret.
To Jag: Is the Catholic Church the only provider of charity in the area? Maybe those people who actually care about what happens in their area will find another outlet for their charitable donations. If the Catholic Church suffers mightily as a result, well, that's free enterprise and capitalism at work, right?

The Church won't suffer mightily at all if they pull out, except to look bad for having threatened to stop doing what it says it is supposed to do. They insist that it is because there aren't enough religious exceptions (which tickles my memory about another state in which the same thing was brought up---have to do research).

I think you vastly underestimate (or I vastly overestimate) how much something like this might backfire on them financially.

Maybe. I'm far more concerned about the spiritual damage than the financial damage. The Church isn't going out of business soon.

I think those two things go, at least to some degree, hand in hand.

Now that the bill passed: Catholic Diocese in Washington: "Er, nevermind."
