On a day to honor a great man, it is worth going back to him directly sometimes. I always get inspired (and a little choked up at times, thinking of his courage) whenever I watch a speech of his.
it really bothered me that my first day of work was today. to me, this is among our most important national holidays, as it honors one of the greatest men to ever live, and quite possible the greatest American of the last 50 years.

When do we start work on a color-blind society? I take him at his word, but I which everyone else would stop treating them as if they were an expedient lie to move us along to the reverse discrimination phase.

i think we've been working on it for decades. unfortunately, color is still an issue for a lot of people.
it was not an issue in this thread, until post #2.

We have started working on a color-blind society. Surely you aren't saying we haven't started it.

He must mean that "starting to work" means "get rid of anti-discrimination laws which are themselves racist" or something like that.
I don't want to put words into his mouth, but I'm genuinely trying to figure out what he means.

That was my assumption as well.
To which the obvious response is "when people stop being #&@$(*#@&$(*& racists, then we won't have a need for any laws which attempt to equalize opportunity against that #(*$)#@(*$)#(*$)(#*( racism".
